Big Trouble in Little China
(1986)

Remains one of my favorite movies...
I remember the amazement my brother and I felt in a nearly empty theater in 1986 about the sheer awesomeness of BTiLC. We knew straight away that this would be one of those movies that only some would 'get', but we adored its quirky blend of action, comedy, mysticism, wildly over the top imagination, and breakneck pace.

As many have pointed out, Jack is really the sidekick here, but despite his bloviating, often clueless and bumbling nature, the fact that he keeps moving forward to help a friend makes him such an endearing character. I just showed it to my daughter for the first time after all these years... and she loved it. For those who love quirky, imaginative genre movies that stay true to a unique vision from beginning to end... Big Trouble in Little China is difficult to top.

Bridge Across Time
(1985)

You know... this could have been a lot worse
I began watching this as a joke, but actually found it mildly enjoyable, like a more-bloody, supernatural-ish Murder She Wrote episode. Hoff is Hoff, with all that entails, but most of the other leads give competent performances, and I appreciated that Clu Gulager's role wasn't as one-note as you would expect. Stephanie Kramer is solid as Hoff's romantic object, and while I'm sure some fans would have preferred a more sexy turn from Adrian Barbeau, she's likeable as the town librarian. Yes it's a silly bit of made-for-TV nonsense, but I found it a less than terrible thing to have running in the background during a quiet spring afternoon. :)

Atlantic Rim
(2013)

Without exaggeration, likely the worst movie I've ever seen.
We love bad movies, but this monstrosity is bad in a way that makes it virtually unwatchable, even with the MST3K gang along.

Unbelievably bad acting by an unappealing cast. Terrible special effects. Abysmal continuity. Production quality so cheap that there are extended scenes with the actors describing stuff that the movie lacks funds to show.

I felt terrible for Graham Green, as he's literally surrounded by amateur actors who can barely deliver lines.

Atlantic Rim is an embarrassment.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
(2018)

Good for preteens and adults
This movie is a cute romance without being too raunchy. It was sweet but still had drama. Over all, it was a good movie!

Trail of the Screaming Forehead
(2007)

As Enjoyable as Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
Had a great time at the world premier in Seattle. Screaming Forehead is EXTREMELY funny, with great writing and acting. The entire ensemble from Lost Skeleton is back and in fine form, joined by some great additions to the cast. In particular, Alison Martin is hilarious as the town's stream-of-consciousness librarian.

The movie is very pleasant to look at with a wonderful 'day-glow' sixties feel, a great compliment to the grainy black and white feel of Lost Skeleton.

As a big fan, it was a given that I would see the film, if only out of respect for Larry Blamire and the team. But I'm very pleased that the quality of the film is every bit as good as their previous work. Highly recommended.
