Jeepers Creepers: Reborn
(2022)

Rating HIGHLY indicative. 2-star for effort (?)
Seeing that this movie was made during the 2020's should have also been an alert; quite a lot of flops happening from late 2010's onwards in this industry I'm sad to say. The first three were quite entertaining. This one? A big disappointment. It feels like just an excuse to play a favourite hard rock song in the background. Even the Creeper costume wasn't up to standard as a continuation of the former looks. The storyline was weird in a negative sense, to the point where I continued doing my house chores without pausing the scenes to miss no part of the movie- and that is a very bad indication in my case. What's even worse is that I just stopped watching it before an hour. 'Then why watch it in the first place?' I hear you say. Well... hope- which once again led me to a route of dissatisfaction, movie-wise.

The Little Mermaid
(1989)

This is the BEST of Disney, hands down - no argument!
It's my most favourite of *Disney animations, and I practically love all the ones based on fairy tales and myths. Colourful, musical, enjoyable, funny, dramatic...a perfect mix for a perfect result. It's what saved *Disney from bankruptcy, it's what started the well-loved Renaissance period (which one can also say *Disney's Golden Age), and rightfully so! Although this feature sugar-coats the original source from where it was derived, it still preserves main aspects of it, accompanied by award-winning music and an unforgettable experience each time you see it over and over! Trust me, it will never get boring no matter how many times you put it on repeat!

*The company, not the person.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians
(2023)

Ok on the whole...
Quite good with respect to storyline and special effects, but I still cannot see the exceptional 'wow' factor to make the movies look so bad. In some instances, such as Chiron's cgi, I found the movie version more realistic, and also found the series Pythia scene lacking in comparison. As for Medusa...I like both versions for they give two separate styles which look good in their own right. What I didn't quite like was having to make her invisible during decapitation. However, the scene of how Alecto rose to attack Percy and the way she became petrified and crashed to the floor was a great scene. It was a good depiction.

That said, I believe it is a good series for which I wait for each episode with anticipation, given also that it has the opportunity to show more mythological material than the movies.

Rozhdenie Erota
(1989)

Beautiful!
The animation is captivating and the story beautifully told. Ever since I found out about these short Greek myth animations by Petrov, I have watched multiple times. It's a pity there are so few!

Madame du Barry
(1954)

a fine biopic
On reading Joan Haslip's biography of Madame du Barry, I was quite happy to guess the names of certain characters (such as Madame de Gramont), since the movie only comes out in French. I personally think it is a nice movie, though cut very short! Martine Carol was very good in the role, having a happy-go-lucky bubbly personality, using childish coy to attract the king, although her seductive side, though a very important asset as role of Louis XV's last mistress, was but non-existent (considering it is a 1954 movie!).

The costumes were nice, although considering how du Barry was always pompous and up-to-date with fashion, could have had at least a few more wigs! Still, since it is the only movie I could find about her, it is brilliant!!!

Troy
(2004)

More action, less myth!
First of all, I must say that the movie, with all it's settings, costumes and dialogue, was superb; but...what is it with movies of Greek Mythology not having any mythical scenes? I mean, considering how wonderful the costumes are, not to mention such a perfect cast of actors and actresses, I really would have been quite eager in seeing the Judgement of Paris! I would have found Angelina Jolie in the part of the red-haired goddess Hera, Famke Janssen in a golden war-dress as Athene and Rebecca-Roijn Stamos semi-nude with long falling golden curls as the beautiful Aphrodite quite breath-taking! p.s. Does anyone know if the sequel of The Odyssey is coming out with Sean Bean as Odysseus (as in Troy)? If yes, PLEASE help in making the director remember to put the Sirens in!

Marie Antoinette
(2006)

Agree & Disagree
I am basing my comments on those of hafsol.

Although I find hafsol's review to the extreme negative, I must say quite a lot of it is true and agreeable. Marie Antoinette was a very extravagant and ostentatious queen, yes, but Coppola's view of Antoinette as being a young princess thrust into a totally different court from the one she was born into is a very good part of the movie. True, maybe Coppola did make Antoinette a very gentle and innocent woman, but then again what was a queen to do surrounded by fortune with a husband barely noticing her? Women need love and affection! The scenery was ultra-superb and the costumes and accessories marvelous...but the songs...hmmmm...could have kept with the era I'm afraid!! I'm not saying Coppola shouldn't have any right to make the historic biopic as she saw Marie Antoinette, but she could have stuck more to the age. But hey, those costumes and wigs were extremely beautiful (altough other wigs could have been included which do not look like white dye applied to the real hair with a lot of hairspray!!) Many keep saying Kirsten Dunst doesn't have a thing good in portraying the Queen. Personally, I like her! Not because I'm some kind of fan of Spiderman or anything, I just liked her. In my point of view Sofia did actually manage to make Kirsten look from a young 14-year-old to a woman. I liked Kirsten in the role. But Asia Argento...Madame du Barry was blonde! Personally I would have actually preferred Angelina Jolie...she has a more seductive and mistressy look and stamina...but anyway. And Jason in the role of Louis XVI...NO WAY HOSE!!! If one sees 'Affair of the Necklace' by Charles Shyer one would see how great a resemblance Louis XVI is in that movie to the real dauphin. As for Jolie Richardson, another triumph in look-alike! I was, in agreement to hafsol's comments, very disappointed with the ending! No guillotine, no Jeanne de la Motte Valois, no Cardinal de Rohan, no necklace...too much interesting material left out! Should Sofia have made a similar ending to her movie as that of 'Affair of the Necklace' would have been grand!!
