Kill Bill: Vol. 2

Kill Bill: Vol. 2

  • Tarantino at his... worst?

Considering how much i enjoy tarantino films... including Kill Bill vol. 1 - i was so very much looking forward to the release of vol. 2. Little did i realise that when Kill Bill was cut up into 2 volumes.... that it was literally cut up into 2 volumes. The first which offered a rich textured, comical and action packed experience was followed up with a 2nd half which is meant to be perhaps thought provoking.

However it isnt pulled off well. Tarantino's ironic portrayal of the first movie is taken to a really bad extreme in the second film where not a lot happens, and then the film is wrapped up in about 10 minutes when Bill is confronted at last - and then dies in a matter of seconds with no sword fight, but instead a rediculous sequence of gestures....

If you havent seen the film yet and are reading this review... you may probably think *wtf?* - well thats exactly what i thought when i saw the film. A gross disappointment considering the writer and the prequel.

  • Quite enjoyable if you dont take it seriously ~

It may just be that im not a big fan of Steven King.... but i really thought this film lacked any depth. The acting by torturro and depp is as always out of this world, but when working with such a flimsy script, based on a short story by one of the worlds most messed up authors... then theres only so much they could do.

Their perfomances are entertaining - but thats about all i can say for this film that is in a positive tone. The horror element to the film isnt frightening - and the ending is predictable.

Johnny Depp i feel would play an amazing nut job and in fact shows that partly in this film - but i hope he plays a similar role in a better scripted film in the future, because although he did as much as he could with his role - the script held him back.

  • Such a short film..... and yet it seems so long.

Granted this film is trying to portray a very solemn occurrence - a high school shooting such as that at Columbine - trying to give some insight into how these things can esculate from people that seem so normal on the surface.

Kids who appear just like every other kid; a hint of teenage angst and depression and not a fat lot else showing what they are capable of doing. Artistic in the way its filmed - repeating sequences over and over but changing the point of action each time to different individuals who will ultimately become victims of a mass slaughter.

Thought provoking... however.... not very entertaining. If i wanted to see something like that, id go to an American High School and wait for the inevitable.

What it tries to do, it does well - and at least this i will grant it. However i feel its a piece of emotive garbage which may only work on american audiences because of the obvious plot similarities to fairly recent events in the US. It isnt funny - it isnt romantic - it isnt thought provoking - and...... *drum roll* - it has no lasting effect. If you want a good action movie... try something cheesy like True Lies. Elephant is nothing more than what id call a .... 'why the heck did i just watch that?' movie.
