What is it about Hollywood wanting to spoil great foreign films by uninspired remakes?
It's asif they can't abide having a beloved foreign film not remade and molded into a Hollywood cookie-cutting movie. It's the difference between a home-made dish, and a fast-food item: unhealthy, and lacking originality.
Hollywood already messed up "A man called Ove" (also renaming the main character "Otto" for the dumber audience), and now this movie...
I don't think Ted Danson, albeit talented, has the goofy trait required of the main character.
The sets are also way too glamorous for being a senior home anywhere. If you've ever visited one, you'll know what I mean.
Whatever is good with this movie comes from the original, but it missed a lot of its marks.

This movie is supposed to be a murder mystery/thriller, a category that draws countless people in, but ends up being boring and annoying.
Let me start with the good points.
The cinematography is beautiful, with camera shots artfully taken.
Dylan O'Brien is an excellent actor IMO, and overall the entire cast does a good job, with the exception of the little girl who can't act if her life depended on it, and the actor portaying the stepfather who does a subpar job.
Now for the bad points.
The story is disjointed, with 2 threads interweaved, which makes it hard to follow.
Moreover, there is no clear beginning or a logical flow, and the characters are poorly developped, which makes it difficult to care about what happens to them, or trying to understand their anguish.
The dialogue is absolute rubbish. Just an example: one character says "Tell me what happened", the other responds "Nature made this place. We're family." It makes no sense!
For the entire duration of the movie, despite nothing happening, there's a tense beat that gets tiresome, even irking.
The movie ends abruptly, without any explanation for the 90 minutes of suspenseful soundtrack!

Most progeny of actors and directors think they inherited their parents' talent, which is not true as often as they would believe.
Or perhaps, more likely, it's the fame and money along with not much labor that attracts them to take on the same career, especially since it requires no other credentials than a shared family name.
In any case, I found this movie entirely predictable. It lacked suspense, although the expectation of shock was obvious.
It's not a bad movie, but it's not good either. Just meh! The current rating here (5.7) is spot on, for a change.
It's now streaming on HBO Max, otherwise I would not pay a dime to watch it.
