Crown Vic
(2019)

Not exactly "Training Day", but pretty decent
So I don't like movies that promote big daddy government and always paint the cops as the good guys, because the truth is often different. I like movies like Training Day and End of Watch, which are both excellent examples of this genre.

Crown Vic is pretty good. The cinematography is top notch. The acting from Thomas Jane deserves a lot of credit and he is a very underrated actor. The acting from others is passable. If anything I would say some of the characters are overexaggerated, which wasn't necessary in my opinion. The story itself is pretty mediocre.

I like the movie anyway for what it is, and this kind of genre always seems to write itself. I put it outside the overdone "buddy cop" genre, but I wouldn't know what to call it.

Time Trap
(2017)

Didn't expect much and was BLOWN AWAY!
Honestly, best sci fi film I've seen in years. The story is incredible. The acting is pretty good, the girls are nice looking (infact I might just look up some other films Cassidy Gifford has acted in, just to watch her alone). The effects are clearly done on a low budget and the movie generally feels like it may have been aimed at a teen audience, but never feels patronising. It had me enthralled nearly all the way through, more or less from the start. Just as a side note, sooo many films have such a highly politically charged left leaning narrative now. And so I also like how it was a-political, which is very hard to find since 2016 (ie, there's no climate-change propoganda and that "space history" radio part played excerpts from Obama and Trump, which I thought was a nice gesture to audiences of all political backgrounds).

Watch it, I don't think you'll be let down.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
(2002)

realistic? Er, no thanks
performance wise, this game just doesn't seem to run well on any computer i've ever had. first i had a p3 with 512mb and a geforce fx 5200. performance was pretty poor. and i put it down to the hardware i had at the time. since then, i have also had the opportunity to play this game on an Intel Pentium d with 1 gig of ram and a radeon x300. i'm at a loss, as there wouldn't be that many PCs up to this spec in 2002, yet still the performance is not good. no, there's just something not quite right about this at all.

aside from being extremely sluggish in the graphics department, the same can be said for the controls etc. in a big way. this is one of the most unresponsive racing games i have ever seen. people talk about this being 'realistic', but i'm sorry real cars just do not behave like this. you try to turn the wheel all the way round, and yet the car just seems to slowly veer off to one side. very slow acceleration which is highly frustrating. if this is truly realistic, then i'd much rather play super Mario kart, thank you very much.

the tracks are highly boring and mostly just look like any old unremarkable American highway. too much space, to open, not enough sharp bends. oh, i forgot, you couldn't put any sharper bends in, because the car simply wouldn't be able to manoeuvre round them. no, i'm not kidding, you'd probably have to do a 3 point turn. how do these people get off their drives, i wonder?

nope, this game sucks, IMO. if you want a really good racing game, then buy v-rally 2. though, nobody seems to have played it much. and looking around on the net, it's almost as if it never really existed. much the same with a lot of other things in this world, great things get swept under the carpet, while sucky things get high praise

Apocalypse Now
(1979)

VERY boring and highly overrated.
Films like "apocalypse now", "the godfather" and "the deer hunter" all have a somewhat similar feel to them. They are all boring as hell, too long and way overrated. In my opinion, they really need pulling down a peg or two. OK, so maybe I just don't get it, and we'll leave it at that. But I see there are plenty of others here who feel exactly the same as I do, thank god. It's very hard to comprehend how films that are regarded as the best appear to me as some of the worst I've ever seen.

I honestly don't know what to say. It really was that much of a snooze-fest for me. The only feelings I can describe to you of me watching the film, was boredom and me thinking about cutting the hedges back at the farm I help out on tomorrow morning. I really did just start to think of other things and forgot about the movie I was watching. 2001: a space odyssey? yup, slow, but brilliant and captivating. But this? man, I...I just don't get it. A man sails up a river....

All power to you if you like this. But not for me, thank you

Batman Begins
(2005)

Dark and sophisticated. Thank god!
A welcome return to the dark and sophisticated Batman we all know and love from the first two films. Somewhat different though, maybe. Hahaha, it almost pains me to say this is arguably better than the original. Though I would give them both full marks, without any hesitation. I think everybody was kind of taken aback at how good this film really was, especially after the not so good "batman forever" and the absolutely horrendous "Batman and Robin". So yeah, job done. Franchise saved!

The film seems kind of long, but that's fine. As the beginning goes about telling the story of how batman himself is created. The action starts about halfway through, then towards the end is quite intense. The film really succeeded in making a true super hero out of batman, without making it look corny or too unrealistic. The actors are top draw. Bale seemed perfect. He made the dual identity of batman and Wayne really come alive with his anger as batman and making Wayne actually look like a real person, rather than a wooden man with a square jaw. Caine and Freeman appear to be playing two halves of the same character. They are both so distinguished. Neeson is also great.

But anyway, no need to worry. Batman is in safe hands with this lot. Can't wait for dark night

TV Burp
(2001)

The only genuinely funny thing i see on TV
the choreography, mannerisms and silliness of this show, make even the people who don't watch the shows he's talking about laugh. i'm not saying there aren't parts that i don't laugh at. but there are at least 10 good giggles per show. and for someone as cynical and husk-like as myself, that is an incredible achievement! it's harry hill himself that makes the show. if they continued this without him (whatever reason) it just wouldn't be the same.

another achievement is that the show is completely family friendly. i think this is even on at Saturday early evening? good lord! i mean, have you ever even so much as smirked at any other show being shown at this kind of time? well, yes, i have, actually. you know what it is? "you've been framed". and before you write me off because of that, before harry was presenting that particular show, i absolutely HATED it! if he can make you've been framed seem even slightly funny, then he's a total comedy genius! no wonder this keeps getting renewed. it's one of the only funny things left on TV

Freddy vs. Jason
(2003)

Hilarious!!!11
lol, i've just had a right laugh! there i was thinking this was going to be just another boring teen scream flick, like the last Halloween movie. and for the first 30 minutes or so, i was thoroughly expecting to be right. but after Freddy came into the movie more, comedy ensued! never would i have realised that Freddy (providing the funnies) and Jason (the straight-man) would make such an excellent double act!? some of the other characters are great. the chinless wonder rookie policeman who just didn't fully understand the rules of the reality which he inhabited. or the very hot Kelly Rowland, playing the only black person in town, y'all! and what about the guy with the long hair and the bonnet? you could have easily mistaken him for something out of the view askew universe. i honestly expected him to start referring to the joints he was offering out as "snoochie boochies". OK, so i don't fully understand how Freddy came into normal reality to fight Jason, but who cares? anyways, this film is really quite funny

Zeruda no densetsu: Yume o miru shima
(1993)

wonderfully cute and intensely playable for days and days at a time
playing this game is like the equivalent of reading a very long and interesting novel. you can place your bookmark and come back to it any time you want (which will usually be a lot!). it really is just like going on one big long adventure. and again, just like a book, you quickly forget about everything after several months, once you have completed the game (which is actually quite hard). so you can come back and do it all again!

they got the difficulty just right. and you've got lots of items and weapons to collect and choose from. the graphics are really well rounded. in fact, i would say for a game boy the graphics are excellent. everything looks so cute. the musical score is amazing. the great tune, as you set off across the plains, is really stirring.

this is my favourite game ever. i really don't know what else to say, apart from you can get this game and a colour game boy for a couple of quid nowadays. so you really won't regret it
