This is the biggest disappointment of the year. As a musical it's unbearable, the songs are horrible and unbearable. The main idea could be interesting, and it's kinda original but everything is treated from a cheap soap opera perspective, and looks like a fake representation of Mexico, like it was a Amusement park of Mexico. And the actresses deserve a separate chapter... Both Karla and Selena Gomez deserve to win the Razzie for the worst performance of the year, one has no nuances and the other is exaggerated and on top of that she doesn't know how to speak Spanish and you can't understand her at all. Zoe is the only one doing a decent job.
I suggested to my parents and my uncle to go watch the new Almodovar's in theaters. In Spain every time he presents a movie, is an event. So after the credits roll we were all surprised and excited (except my father, but that's normal) and we unanimously said that it has become our favourite of Almo's. What a great job in all aspects. Who would have thought that, after several missteps he would gave us one of his best movies of his career. Everything works: the script is light and deep; he talks about death and life but mostly about friendship and how valuable is. Julianne and Tilda are superb, so credible and touching, the music of Alberto Iglesias, photography, the full cast, everything works. It's a must see for anyone with a minimum of sensitivity and love for the craftwork of cinema.
I just watched this movie in Paris, and I was blown away how good is the story and how well written it is. I read that the movie won a couple of awards in San Sebastián festival and I was very curious. The film is a drama with a very dark side but at the same time with plenty of sense of humor all over. The cast is magnificent: all of them play so incredible real. Helene Vincent et Josiane Balasko deserve all the awards without forgetting Pierre Lottin, he's just amazing as the felonious son of hers. Without telling too much, the story depicts a kind of characters very rare to find in any movie. I loved how the movie surprises you with some very unexpected turns. I watched most of the films of Francois Ozon, and this one is probably one of his best works. A must watch!
