Addio zio Tom
(1971)

Tasteless, Offensive, Unpleasant, Unforgettable.
I've seen a lot of offensive films in my time, from Cannibal Holocaust to A Siberian Film, but this one is easily the most tasteless, offensive, unpleasant films I have ever seen. Yet somehow it is also riveting, like watching a car crash unfold in slow motion. Several times I was on the verge of turning it off in sheer disgust, but found myself holding off, just to see how much more depraved it could get.

The "plot", such as it is, concerns a pair of time-travelling reporters from Italy going back to the south of the USA during the heyday of slavery, to conduct a "inquest" into slavery. Presenting itself as a condemnation of slavery, it instead revels in the unpleasantness, delivering atrocity upon atrocity with a smirk on it's face. The horror inflicted on the slaves in Django Unchained pales in comparison to the never-ending parade of unpleasantries served up here. I suppose it does present a view of what slaves went through at the time, but it's hard to feel that they are condemning the acts when all the slaves are presented as little more than dumb animals.

Amongst the dubious "delights" on offer are rape, castration, paedophilia and the truly horrible scene where the poor reporter is "seduced" by a 13 year old black prostitute. It's made so much worse as everything is presented as though we are seeing it through their eyes.

It's certainly unforgettable, and if you're not easily offended or squeamish, it's worth watching once, even if it's just to see how low Italian exploitation cinema managed to stoop. You might need a good shower afterwards, however.

Rating: 7/10 just for the sheer gall of the film.

TrashHouse
(2005)

Funny, Violent And Intelligent
From the very beginning, TrashHouse makes it obvious what kind of a film you're about to watch. Snappy, funny dialogue and violence, all before the opening credits.

The plot is quite original, revolving around five people, apparently the most balanced people in the UK, invited to a house to take part in an experiment. They will have a chip fitted that gives them the power to create anything they can imagine, between the hours of 7.30 am and 10.00 pm. The catch? Someone isn't who they claim to be, and things are about to take a turn for the dangerous.

A fantastic debut from Pat Higgins. The dialogue is well written, and the ideas presented in the script are fantastic. There's plenty of the red stuff for gore hounds, a few naked ladies, and some great music. The only letdown is that some of the CGI effects are rather poor, but that's obviously down to the low budget nature of the movie. The performances are all very good.

I really hope someone gives Pat Higgins a decent budget for his next film.

8/10

Revenge of Billy the Kid
(1991)

Gore, Sex, Goats And Lots Of Farting!! (Spoilers)
Imagine The Evil Dead meets Monty Python on a farm. Chuck in a helping of Peter Jacksons Bad Taste and sprinkle liberally with farting, burping and daft humour, and you've got The Revenge Of Billy The Kid.

When told by his wife to take the goat to the mainland for it to mate, the farmer takes matters into his own hands and has his way with the poor goat. The goat gives birth to a freak who the farmers daughter (Named Ronald McDonald, like her siblings!!) takes a shine too and names Billy. But the creatures appetite soon becomes too big for her to handle, and her father chases Billy into the attic, where he apparently kills the mutant. But soon livestock is turning up slaughtered, and when a pair of poachers become mutant goat fodder, the scene is set for a gory showdown between Billy and the family who shunned him.

If you like ridiculous comedy and farting gags, plus a fair bit of gore, you'll love this!

The Necro Files
(1997)

Definetly a guilty pleasure
Gore. Sex. Flying Dolls. More Gore. I love this film. Its the story of a serial rapist/killer, shot dead by severely overacting cops and bought back to life a year later by the dumbest satanists ever to grace the screen. The zombiefied rapist promptly goes on a killing spree, the cops slowly lose their marbles as they pursue the zombie, and the satanists send a dead baby (Actually a doll!) after the undead miscreant.

Its violent, gory, offensive and funny.

Darkness
(1993)

A low budget gem
A vampire movie like no other. Leif Jonker should be praised for his attempts to drag the vampire genre out of the terrible goth phase its currently lingering in.

A well written plot combines with great gore and some genuinely terrifying scenes to make a great movie. The sense of menace and terror is never far from the screen, and the end is truly horrific

Street Trash
(1987)

Wild gory fun fest.
A very underrated gore film, that slipped quietly to video in the 80's. Its a shame, as this movie is equal to, if not better than, The Evil Dead. The gore is plentiful, the humour downright offensive and the acting ranges from merely crap to cringeworthy. Thats what makes it such a classic of 80's gore cinema.

Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare
(1987)

Amusing daftness
Whatever the makers of this film were taking, its most certainly strong! A rock band, led by metal muscleman John Mikl Thor, go to an old farmhouse/recording studio to record their next album away from any distractions (So why'd they take their girlfriends?). The farmhouse was the scene of some grisly murders a year ago, and the evil has awoken (Probably by the bad rock music!). It begins to pick them off one by one, until the final confrontation between Thor and the Devil himself.

This is a severly daft movie, featuring some really bad actors, some ludicrous monsters (Rubber starfish, penis monsters?), loads of sex and terribly hilarious rock music. Well worth checking out, if only to see Thor belting the snot out of a huge rubber Devil.

Nekromantik
(1988)

Ew!!
The only movie ever to turn my stomach, and I have seen a lot of horrible movies! Jorg Buttgereit brings a lovely tale of a love triangle, the only thing is, one of them is a decaying corpse. Theres a lot to like about this movie, the acting is good, the music is beautiful (seriously) and the gore is strong. Just don't eat before you watch it!

Bliss
(1985)

A film of beauty
Not just a film, but also an experience. A man dies from a heart attack and is bought back to life. He is however convinced he is in hell. Feeling confused and scared by the strangeness of his family and the world around him, he starts to have a breakdown. It seems his only salvation lies in the arms of a prostitute, but can you find love in hell?

This is a truly beautiful movie, at times scary, at times befuddling. Like the world Harry Bliss lives in, like the world we live in.

Tron
(1982)

80s classic sci-fi
A classic of 80s cinema. People who slate this film for having dated effects are really missing the point. Of course they look dated when held up against the likes of "Toy Story" or "Final Fantasy", but when you consider the year this film was made, the effects become pretty damn impressive. To me, this is always what I will imagine the inside of a computer game looks like.
