(500) Days of Summer
(2009)

SO great!
This movie proves that you should NEVER judge a book by it's cover! When I first saw commercials for this movie, it looked happy and almost like a typical romantic comedy...but the trailer just DID NOT do the movie justice.

At times, "(500) Days of Summer" made me both laugh out loud (something I don't remember doing in theaters for a long time) and make me almost want to cry -- this well-acted film made a great impact on me because it seemed so real...this is one of the most original films I have seen in a WHILE! "(500) Days of Summer" also had the perfect chemistry between it's main characters; Jason Gordon-Levitt (as Tom) and Zooey Deschanel really looked like a couple...I think they should date. Haha.

I loved this film because it strayed so far away from "mainstream" and more materialistic romantic-comedies...it's darkness is almost unreal sometimes.

Overall, a great film that I wouldn't mind seeing again, and you bet I'll be first in line when it comes out on DVD.

8/10.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
(1984)

A Genuine Classic...one of my favorites
I just got my hands on A Nightmare on Elm Street at a store a couple days ago, and I decided to watch it by myself. I've seen the movie tons of times, and I've decided to write a review about it while it's fresh on my mind...

A Nightmare on Elm Street is about a girl named Nancy who suffers from nightmares all involving a strange man (Freddy Krueger), who brutally picks them off one-by-one (in their dreams), leaving Nancy to stop him once and for all.

I must say that ANOES is not only one of my favorite horror movies, but one of my favorite movies in general. I love the atmosphere, (genuine) scares, and tension that Wes Craven brings to the table, and that's what makes it a great scary movie...something modern day horror movies ignore by trading in suspense with jump scenes and pointless gore.

One of my only (minor) gripes about the film is that I wish it could have been better acted...some of the lines made me cringe...but hey, so what? I can live with it.

A Nightmare on Elm Street will always be a classic, and one of the most influential horror films ever (in my opinion)...and to anyone who hasn't seen it, do yourself a favor and pop this baby in!

The Hangover
(2009)

Wayyyy over-hyped...
Don't get me wrong, "The Hangover" entertained me and didn't bore me at all, but to see this movie in the top 250 and to hear all these "rave" reviews it's been getting doesn't make any sense.

It honestly wasn't really that funny. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen the majority of the funny moments. I chuckled, but this movie was definitely NOT laugh-out-loud throughout material.

I guess what kind of turned me off of the movie was the characters...I was very wishy-washy on who i did and didn't like throughout the film. I also felt that some of Allen's random and bizarre outbursts were unneeded, and he closely reminded me of Steve Carrel's "Brick" from "Anchorman".

Beside these gripes, the film was alright. A good summer movie, but I would probably not see it again, and I wouldn't pay more than 8.99 for this movie. But, don't take this review to heart. Go watch this and form your own opinions.

Drag Me to Hell
(2009)

The trailer was misleading...
Seeing the trailer (which in my opinion, didn't make the film look all that interesting) and hearing some mixed opinions from schoolmates about the film, I wasn't too enthusiastic about this movie.

But, after the premier, I noticed it's impressive 95% "Fresh" rating on Rottentomatoes.com, and this being one of the only horror movies in what, 2 years(?), that has been rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, I thought I would give it a shot.

And I'm glad I did! Drag Me to Hell had me on the edge of my seat practically the entire time. Also, the black comedy in it made it all the more enjoyable.

I was a little skeptical about Justin Long; mind you, he plays his role well, I just couldn't help but think someone a little more...mature looking should have had his part.

That small gripe aside, Drag Me to Hell was one of the most enjoyable movie experiences I've had in a while, and I would recommend it to any horror fan out there.

Problem Child 2
(1991)

A great movie for a rainy day...
and nothing else.

One of my friends bought the Problem Child Tantrum Pack (contains the first two "Problem Child"s in one disc), and we decided to watch the sequel because it was "funnier".

There were many funny moments in the movie (the vomit scene, that's all I need to say.), Nippy the dog after eating CHOW DOWN, and numerous others. The movie is nothing but toilet humor, but it's hilarious. Other than the funny moments, though, this movie has little to offer.

John Ritter annoys the crap out of me, because it sounds like he's reading out of a book. The man can't act in this one, sorry.

Although I can't say if I would find the movie funny now...(we were blown when we watched it), it's a perfect movie for a rainy day...but nothing else. Don't expect Oscar material on this one, guys.

Swingers
(1996)

If I never hear the words "money" or "baby" again...
It will be too soon. I can't even count on two hands how many times I heard these two words...in a sentence...together.

Besides this...minor gripe, Swingers was an average comedy. Vince Vaughn is kind of annoying in here, he's just a little know-it-all and he always seems to get under my skin. However, he played his part perfect as a scumbag.

The main character Mike (Jon Favreau), is almost unbearable to watch. He is so incredibly awkward, I can't help but feel horrible for this guy. And although I am sympathetic to his background story, his overall weirdness just didn't earn any brownie points with me.

The supporting cast is "blah" as well, but I do feel like Heather Graham was a standout. She brought a tad bit of class to the film.

Swingers has its moments where you can't help but laugh, but most of the dialogue is unimportant blabber on behalf of Vaughn...I'd give Swingers an "A" for effort, but it was definitely a sub-par comedy. (I also found it strange how basically every scene with Vince Vaughn and another man in it -- the other man always seemed to be all up on Vaughn...kinda strange.)

The Brady Bunch Movie
(1995)

Hilarious!
"The Brady Bunch Movie" is one of the most clever spoofs I have ever seen. Usually self-parody can get boring and uninteresting, but the mocking of the Brady's family ethics mixed with sexual references galore makes it interesting throughout. And, although the plot may seem to lose steam at some spots, the heartwarming conclusion to Jan's running away is very worth sticking around to see.

Not only is the movie humorous, but it very well acted. I think Jennifer Elise Cox stands out the most, as the psycho middle-child Jan Brady.

All-in-all the cast nailed it, and this goes down hands-down as one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time.

Madea Goes to Jail
(2009)

Tyler Perry is NOT a comic "genius"...
"Madea Goes to Jail" stands out in most of the movies I've seen, for one reason only: It was one of the two movies I've ever walked out on in the theater.

I admit it, I only laughed a couple times...but for the most part ,the humor consisted of nothing but shallow, harshly stereotypical and unclassy "jokes". Tyler Perry's portrayal of African-Americans is almost insulting. Not only that, but Madea was only shown for less than half of it! The only thing saving this from a 1 is Keisha Knight Pulliam's performance. She was the ONLY interesting thing about this crap fest. I look forward to more from her, but please, Tyler Perry, no more.

Punisher: War Zone
(2008)

Honestly, one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
Last night, my friend somehow talked me into seeing this heap of trash aka "Punisher: War Zone".

I can say this was one of the worst films I've ever seen.

"Punisher: War Zone" was horribly acted. Colin Salmon and Julie Benz's performances made me want to rip my hair out. I'm actually surprised this film wasn't nominated for any Razzies. The gore was WAY over the top, but then again, "The Punisher" comics are known to be extremely violent.

My only praise to this "film" is that the action scenes were very good and actually kept me from falling asleep. In fact, the action scenes were the only thing saving this from a 1-star in my book.

3/10.
