I Was a Communist for the F.B.I.
(1951)

balderdash !!
I'm tired of people coming up with the idea of communism being a harmless little flirtation.

It was a serious threat to America and our way of life for many years. I spent many years of my life to defeat it. To minimilize the threat of communism is nothing but sophistry and needs to be called such.

The movie needs to be seen as such, as did the TV series which I remember from my younger years.

Is communism good? Look at what it has done ... it builds walls to keep people in. There are only two countries that still practice it ... China and Cuba. Does that say anything?

Dimples
(1936)

I love movies from the 30's and 40's but
This was not one of Shirley Temple's better films and the cast didn't help much. There are several actors and actresses in the film that I like but they couldn't bring the film through to a good movie. The acting was so-so and the script didn't help much at all.

Stepin Fetchit did well in a non-credited role but didn't save the movie.

In addition Frank Morgan seemed to me to be sleepwalking his way through his role.

Some of the cast did what they could but the vehicle didn't allow them to do what they could.

All that said, little Miss Temple did what she did so well and almost managed to make it a good movie. She was, however, cast in a mediocre film but was still entertaining. Watch it for her performance.

I did winced at the blackface ... 70 years DOES make difference.

The Farmer Takes a Wife
(1953)

Rather disappointing effort for a nice cast
I would lke to give this a 6 but I just cannot even though I am a big Grable fan, Also a fan of Robertson but this was not his best performance by far. Maybe he felt as out of his element as I perceived him to be.

However the weak script and scenes lets the two of them have several moments that the songs couldn't completely ruin.

I did burn this to DVD because I really do want to have a complete library of both the stars.

The costumes were nice and the color was nice and the 4 major actors/actresses did as much as you could hope for in a weak vehicle.

Watch it but don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

As I think on it a 5 might be a little high but I will stick witn it

Fort Bowie
(1958)

Jana Davi/Maureen Hingert
not a review on the movie but I wonder if anyone could give more information on Jana Davi/Maureen Hingert? I am a large fan of movies from the 30's, 40's and 50's and liked this lady. It seems a shame she was in so few pictures and would like to know more about her. .... Just an old man's interest. Any input would be appreciated.

Probably not a large number of people can fill in any information for a minor actress but I would like to have any information available.

There HAS to be someone out there that has some information on her.

Thank you for any help.

I just saw her in GUN FEVER and fell in love with her all over again. Don't ask me why, I just did.

The Story on Page One
(1959)

Gig Young in an under-appreciated role
A fine movie underplayed by all except Tony Francisco who took his part to am outstanding performance. Acting in his role to levels we rarely see him in.

The role by Hayworth was purposely underacted and she became a minor role in the movie but was quite effective.

What impressed me most was Young's character as a "Mommy's" boy who came to his own through the film.

I have always liked Young and this might have been his best dramatic movie of his career even though his part was minimalised through most of the movie.

& yes, he won fair maiden.

A full 7/10 and maybe an 8.

Watch and enjoy!!!!

p.s. It might not have been near as good in color. B&W was perfect.

Tales of Manhattan
(1942)

An excellent movie well worth the viewing
Okay, 10/10 is supposed to be excellent but I reserve my 9s & 10s for really exceptional movies that far excel "great" movies.

I have no problems with most of the other reviewers and agree with MOST of their opinions.

The movie has a stellar cast and all seem to handle their roles with ease and aplomb. The fact that the jacket fits so many different frames is the point that requires a tiny bit of suspension of belief but that is for nit-pickers to point out. If the jacket has, indeed, some magical properties that should be considered.

What is interesting is that the movie now being shown includes a W.C. Fields that was deleted in the theatrical release.

In short, watch and enjoy a large cast of Hollywood notables giving great performances ..... maybe I should give it a 9, but I'll stick with an 8.

Playboy: Girls of Hedonism, Runaway Bay Jamaica
(2000)

An infomercial ??
I have seen several of the "Girls Of" things from Playboy but this is the first time I ever felt like I was was watching an R-Rated infomercial. The photography was definitely not up to Playboy standards and the whole episode seemed amateurish with the bad shots and the lack of focus in many of the scenes. The dialogue also left a lot to be desired.

It was almost like Hedonism III filmed the thing and then sold the film to Playboy ... or gave it to them hoping Playboy would air and sell the thing giving Hedonism a wider audience.

The only reason I gave this three stars is ... well, I guess the girls, but the cinematography wasn't that good so I am going back and changing it to two stars now before I post this.

Marines, Let's Go
(1961)

Don't waste your time.
joebat23 was overly kind in his grading of this movie, it is absolutely terrible. The plot couldn't even be called sophomoric, the acting was atrocious and the reasoning of the characters was juvenile. Add to this the incredibly bad dialog and an "Intelligence department" that can't figure out what is going on when it should be painfully obvious and you have a movie that makes those Police Academy movies seem like high art worthy of a Nobel Prize.

The only reason I can think of to watch this movie is that a relative is in it and even then I don't think you should lest you lose any regard you have for that relative.

Oh, if you are expecting any even halfway decent battle scenes, forget it.
