Kandahar
(2023)

Good, but not great
An OK movie with nice action scenes... Very flawed when it comes to script, and one of the worst jobs in soundtracking (songs have absolutely nothing to do with the scenes).

But acting is solid, it has nice visuals, camera work is nice, director does a reasonably good job.

You can watch it for the nice actions sequences and ok plot, but the movie is quite forgettable in terms of writing and does not know what it really wants...tries to focus on too many things (character drama, action, war, politics) but not cohesively.

Anyway...nice fun, nice action, but do not expect much more than that.

(I'm done but I still have to type a fewore characters before IMDb allows me to publish)

For All Mankind: Bring It Down
(2022)
Episode 7, Season 3

Great show, lame episode
I have been thoroughly enjoying the show so far, but the Danny subplot has become really annoying, soap-opera-like and unnecessary.

All of a sudden, the whole future of space exploration is jeopardized due to the actions of a mentally unstable "teenager", who apparently has been able to fool hundreds of people, left completely unsupervised (even when beginning to show signs of instability), and with the (lack of the) press of a button brings the whole thing down...all of it just because he was in love with the ex-wife of his father's best friend.

I mean...in love the show, but they've really screwed up in this episode.

Imawa no Kuni no Arisu
(2020)

Quite entertaining despite flaws
The show is quite entertaining, well-produced, has some characters you can care about, and the story is also interesting, there is an interesting atmosphere of suspense to it.

But the writing could be better at times, taking some cheap plot choices or lines, or not properly explaining a few things that needed explaining, and the characters just seem not to care about that.

Some actions of some characters are just very arbitrary, like Arisu completely depressed after the fate of friends and the just being ok after some violins play (in the soundtrack) and the girl says a couple of words.

Anyway, still a very interesting and gripping show, if you ignore these minor issues.

The Witcher: Blood Origin
(2022)

An honest review...
Far from perfect, flawed in many aspects, yes...but still quite enjoyable if you watch it with an open mind, or heart.

Indeed, it is very inferior to The Witcher, with some bad performances (not all), some bad writing (at times), a bad direction (mostly) but with a reasonable production, bad lighting and camera work though with beautiful scenery.

That's basically The Witcher: Blood Origins...for every hit, there is one (or more) misses.

At times, if you think of it as a cartoon but made in live action, it works pretty well.

To me, what really was a disappointment was for them to start marketing it way too early, build too much expectation, and then deliver a mere 4 episode miniseries with subpar execution.

But, still very watchable and fun if you don't expect too much of it ..

Wednesday
(2022)

Very entertaining...
Nice surprise, and gets better after a couple of episodes and the expectations of a classics Addams family story.

Actually, this is more of a Addams Family meets Harry Potter, with lots of elements that hint on the atmosphere of a Hogwarts-like setting - the school, students divided into groups/houses, the peculiar headmaster, and so on... Very nice show that deserves a watch.

The nice touches given by Tim Burton are obviously a plus, such as having Christina Ricci in the cast (which makes us be constantly looking for the Wednesday in her).

The plotline is pretty decent as well, even though the script is not a masterpiece...it is quite gripping.

Andor
(2022)

Really great, mature show... don't mind poor reviewes.
This show is very different from what most people would expect of a Star Wars saga...and that's exactly what's so great about it.

Some people (probably kids or teens) are giving it poor reviews, because they only expect Star Wars tô show them starship battles, Jedis with lightsabers, wookies and so forth...then they go back to watching their Fast and Furious, Vampires Diaries or sth like that.

But Andor is much more than this...it develops characters and plot deeper... it's like a great spy movie.

It shows us why there was a rebellion in the first place, and who were the rebels we always heard of, but had never really seen before.

Visuals are great, screenplay is solid, the story is the most mature in the SW universe.

It's been a great pleasure at every new episode...so far (4 eps in), the show carries a great promise, being in the same league as The Mandalorian (for a bit different reasons, of course).

The Gray Man
(2022)

Action-packed, but quite juvenile...
The action is pretty good, quite some money was spent on production, it's relatively fun to watch...but there's lots of missed opportunities here... Dialogs and overall plot is quiet juvenile, amateurish...storyline is uninspired .. Seems like a movie made for teens, influenced by company executives with a list of things they pulled of from a bunch of data saying what teens would enjoy seeing... But, overall...not so bad to kill some time and have some (unintelligent) fun...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
(2022)

Original Star Trek revisited...
This show feels (to me) very much like the original series, as if it were an update to it.

It has all the elements (the atmosphere, the plot structure of the episodes, etc.), Including a Kirk, a Spock, an Uhura... So far, really enjoying the show...hope it keeps up.

Moonfall
(2022)

Fun to watch B movie
Not a disaster movie, but a disaster of a movie... Fun to watch tough, nice CGI...but script is really bad, cheesy, exaggerated.

But, fun movie to watch...

Star Trek: Discovery
(2017)

Fun, despite countless flaws...
It's a great show, if you're willing to ignore a countless number of flaws, specially when it comes to script, storytelling...because the CGI and photography and production are actually quite good.

The writers can tell an engaging story, but they totally ignore logic, the story bends reality more often than not...like, at one moment someone is suffering with PTSD, then at the words of a superior officer it immediately disappears...stuff like that...but, it's fun to watch...

Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father
(2022)
Episode 10, Season 1

Very unsatisfying, sloppy ending
Love the show, always been one of my favorites of all times...but this last episode was very disappointing.

And no, it's not a "haters" thing, like some self-righteous, "I'm a superior being" reviewers are saying of everyone who didn't like this final episode.

It's not really a matter of Dexter dying at the end, or dying by the hands of his son... it's not that.

The problem is that the conclusion was completely rushed, and needed at least another 5 episodes or so for things to come to that. It was really a matter of lazy writing, or at least not prepping it adequately in previous episodes, that could've focused on other elements to better come to this conclusion, instead of wasting time with other unnecessary parts of the whole plot.

Well...really didn't like the way the story developed to get to this conclusion. And again, the problem is not the way it ends (the death of Dexter) but the way the show develops up to that point...it could have been better...a lot better...

A Quiet Place
(2018)

Interesting, but quite flawed
Nice movie, nice concept and nice general execution...but script has lots of flaws, making this family (characters) occasionally seem like some of the stupidest people in the history of storytelling...

Hawkeye
(2021)

Entertaining, but weak...
Only 2 eps in so far, but can already notice this series, despite being reasonably entertaining, has some serious script and productions flaws... Seems like they didn't bother to put some real effort into making it.

It's nice to watch though, if you put aside its weak points.

Dune
(2021)

Good movie...but hoping the next parts can be better
Villeneuve's Dune is a visually stunning upgrade on previous adaptations of the novel, but it was not (yet) as successful as Lynch's 1984 movie in telling the story in a nice way.

With 2 and a half hours of duration, this 2021 version starts off in a confusing way, constantly moving from one scene to the next, and yet moving too slowly in terms of the story (about a third of what the 1984 version did).

I'm a big fan of Lynch's Dune, of the elegant way of using the emperor's daughter as narrator to better explain the intricate scenario of Dune's universe... Well...really looking forward to parts 2 and 3 of Villeneuve's version, hoping that they really improve on this first installment.

Cursed
(2020)

Has its merits, but also quite some flaws...
The photography is great, the theme or essence of the story is very interesting, the production is pretty good... But... apparently, the director, writer(s) and most of the cast were unable to deliver properly... Some lines are pretty clichéd and acting is quite weak. There is a scene when Nimue is fighting wolves, she's terribly clumsy and it seems like the deadly wolves just keep waiting to be slain.

In the hands of more competent crew, this could've been an amazing series...but, unfortunately it's just plain. Worth a watch if you're lacking anything better to watch...

The Tomorrow War
(2021)

Entertaining, despite flaws and script
Nice action flick, and quite entertaining...provided you disconsider much of the writing.

But characters are "lovable" and the action sequences are fun to watch.

Covert Affairs
(2010)

Jack Ryan meets Vampire Diaries
Nice show... entertaining, light stories with a nice grip. Disconsider the flaws (quite unrealistic, spy-wise), and you're up for some fun, relaxing show.

Mirreyes vs Godinez Home Office
(2020)

Entertaining and true
An entertaining, humorous take on life at home office during the pandemic. Very fun, light, fast-paced, and spot on regarding the challenges and peculiarities we've been forced to face/endure at these crazy times...

Geostorm
(2017)

Action-packed and nice CGI, but...
Not a totally bad movie if you have some time to kill...some nice action scenes, some nice technical aspects... But... extremely predictable, cliched, unintelligent. Nice watch when your brain needs a rest...

Jean-Claude Van Johnson
(2016)

Please, more seasons!
Great show, specially for those who grew up watching JCVD flicks. If you're not a Gen-Xer or an older Millennial, you're probably not gonna get it...and if you're too nitpicky and "cult", you're probably not gonna like it. But give it a little chance, and you'll find it to be very enjoyable, fun, and with nice action scenes. Many parts of the show demand a bit of something extra from the audience (with some satire regarding old JCVD movies and Hollywood in the 80s and 90s)...and that's what makes it so good.

V-Wars
(2019)

Not perfect, but makes great efgo6
Characters are likeble and story is fine. Interesting show .

The Woodsman
(2004)

Incredible movie
One of my favorite movies of all times, not a second goes to waste with skilled story-telling and directing, and also a superb performance by Kevin Bacon. It certainly is a tough subject to be used in a movie, but The Woodsman does it wonderfully, with lots of metaphors, small details to be observed, references... It is a story of human nature, trying to be normal, redemption...it is about following the main character and strongly rooting for him to find his desired normality...

Suicide Squad
(2016)

Nice movie, Wasted opportunity!
The movie is not totally bad, and contained lots of nice scenes and characters in it. But, there was a very weak plot. Too many characters to be presented, some could have been left out of this movie (like Boomerang and Katana)...not because they're bad characters, but because they played such small parts that we cannot even begin to relate to them.

I'm not going to extend my review, but what I really wanted to say is that this movie was a wasted opportunity. Photography was pretty good, some characters were very interesting, and the "dark" atmosphere of the movie were really good. I just hope they make a sequel to it, and do it right the next time.

Bicentennial Man
(1999)

Brilliant, moving, thought-provoking
It's sad that so many can fail to really pay attention to the important elements in a movie, and not only on what the movie may show, but mostly what the movie (or book, or fable, etc.) may make you think, feel, what it may bring from you. Well, but everyone is entitled to an opinion, to have their own "tastes"...but, criticize, that, I think, needs fair and reasonable arguments, at least...

Bicentennial Man is not a movie about a robot, it's not a sci-fi movie. It merely uses the robot story to talk about so much more. It's just a means to discuss the issues of humanity, feeling, the human soul, prejudice, love, courage, determination, selflessness, and so much more.

To fully grasp what Bicentennial Man really discusses in its plot, one has to look beyond the surface of what it is shown. You have to pay attention to the subtleties, to in between the lines, and so on.

If you want a sci-fi movie, a comedy, a family movie, this one will satisfy you. But if you want a dense drama, something to make you think, something to make you feel, and also get some good, honest laughs on the process, then you'll be more than grateful for having chosen to watch it.

For sure, without a shadow of doubt, this is among my top favorite movies of all time.

Numb
(2007)

Heart-warming, though serious flick about a serious situation...
Yet another one here who has some of those depersonalization episodes the main character in this movie suffers from. So, along with some of the other reviewers here, I know what you go/have gone through...

Getting back to the movie, it has been majestically directed and well- acted. The movie takes a great effort into showing the audience what the main character is feeling, without making it boring to the spectator. Matthew Perry is also great in the movie, with a powerful performance...not shallow, and also not exaggerated.

With enough depth in drama, as required by the situation displayed in the movie, it also had quite some humor in it, but at the right dosage, I'd say.

So, yes, it is a movie TO BE SEEN by the general audience. It has humanity in it, even when showing something which is not pretty. It portrays a journey of self-discovery also, something pretty much required of any human being out there, even the ones who occasionally have some trouble with feelings and humor/mood changes, likes some of us.

Great movie! Really recommend it!
