Alan is intent on making the business a professional and cost effective unit, with loss and wastage needing to be accounted for, Hugo and Jack have other ideas. Alan makes it clear that the business needs a full time secretary, one able to work weekends and evenings, Miss Clarke arrives for interview, with a professional CV, unfortunately she doesn't have the party attitude, Griselda does.
Nope, it's not working, I'm struggling to get into it, this is another poor episode, an awful waste of the obvious, but absent capabilities of Griffiths and Whitrow.
I don't think I laughed once, it lacks charm, it lacks warmth, I don't think I care less what happens to either Jack or Hugo, Griselda is just irritating, Alan is a fool....
I will struggle on, as this show is hard to obtain, my advice if you're considering the dvd, save your money.

Jack and Hugo continue to enjoy the good life, playing billiards with Frenchmen and genuinely getting sozzled, much to the frustration of new boy and potential saviour, Alan. Alan is unimpressed with his small office and the behaviour of his new employers. Griselda goes for a job as a social worker, unaware of the nature of the job.
I'm going to stick with it, as I have just purchased the dvd. I'm struggling with it, I'm a huge fan of comedy from yesteryear, but this is not hitting the spot, I was hoping for a quality champagne, when really it's a glass of day old Lambrusco. The first episode was interesting enough, this second episode just wasn't funny, just irritating.
The first annoyance was the sound, it was muddled, patchy, in and out, I know it's a few decades old, but it's terrible.
It's posh boy comedy, the sort that I just don't really like, Jack and Hugo are just awful, lazy, slovenly and not deserving of Alan's help.

Hugo and Jack are used to a hedonistic life of luxury, partying and living it up, unfortunately things have to change, their cash box is empty, their solicitor drops dead and worse, the bank manager has called time on bailing them out. The time has come for Hugo and Jack to join the numbers of the working class.
I took a punt on this show, purely and simply because of the cast, I'm a big fan of both Richard Griffiths and Benjamin Whitrow. I wasn't sure what to expect, so my thoughts on this first episode, it's a typical comedy from the eighties, it's full of the middle classes.
I'm hopeful that we'll get to see Hugo and Jack having to deal with the humdrum of the lower classes.
I can't say I'm enthralled yet, but I can definitely see some potential, as a youngster, my father had a criticism of 'posh comedy,' he used to say such shows simply weren't funny, I'd place this in such a category, but I'm going to stick at it.
