Jules
(2023)

A little nugget
I enjoyed this little nugget of a film. I also like Ben Kingsley since Gandhi. I think he's a phenomenal actor. Harriet reminds me of Ann Dowd. I like them both. I also like Jane Curtin from since Kate & Allie days.

I really enjoyed the picture, but two things I have to comment negatively on. One, was it necessary to have three loud obscene words in a pg show? Is that what we're teaching our kids, to let out a very loud and obscene word if they get shocked about something? Harriet (Sandy) let out the "eff" word when she saw the alien. Was that word necessary for an elderly woman to use in a pg film?

Secondly, the ending. Why does it seem that some Hollywood directors can make an interesting show but don't know how to close it. I did not like the ending. It seemed like they did not know how to give it a satisfactory end. Other than those two comments, I did like it.

The Night Agent
(2023)

Started this yesterday and good so far
I can't understand some of these reviews here on this show. I started it yesterday and it has gripped me from the first moment. It's going very interesting and I'm on episode 2. Can't wait for more.

I interrupted my work just to see what's next. How can people say such bad things about this? If you're looking for drama and excitement, then it's here. Someone even said there's no chemistry with the lead stars. What? Something is wrong with you hopeful critics.

Please don't listen to them. Watch the show for yourself. I remember when Red Riding Hood with Amanda Seyfrield came out, and I went to the cinema to see it. I loved it and raced home to do a review. I was shocked by the negative reviews. It was then that I determined never to follow other people's reviews but to watch a show for myself.

I read these reviews before I started The Night Agent and I'm glad I ignored those reviews because I am enjoying the show immensely. Will do another review when I finish it.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Dutch Tears
(2023)
Episode 14, Season 24

Very touching episode
I had to write when I read the negative review of one of the reviewers who said this episode was horrible and garbage. I find it was very interesting, emotional and realistic.

I liked how Fin handled the case. The guy Dutch had me worried a bit. He kept asking questions and I was afraid that he was going to go off the deep end and do something drastic and stupid. I'm so glad he didn't.

Someone said that the statute of limitations were passed and that the CO and the rapist would not do time; I'm not so sure but I like a satisfactory ending.

I think Fin couldn't open the Dil jar because he had been drinking earlier and I'm sure that weakened him. They weren't trying to say he was old or had arthritis. I don't know where some people come up with these things.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. I think the next one is the finale for the season (tonight) and looking forward to it.

The Company We Keep
(2022)

Similar to The Catch?
I saw the preview for this and while it does look exciting, it reminds me of The Catch which starred Peter Krause and Mireille Enos. He was a fraud/conman and she was a detective hunting him down. And of course they fell in love. It lasted only 2 seasons.

I will watch the pilot of this tonight (Feb 29th) and maybe do a second review. I do hope it lasts longer than the Catch did. There are so many shows now on TV and it's like a fight to see what you can watch.

I do like Peter Krause who is currently starring on 9.1.1. And I like Mireille Enos who was in Hanna. I also loved her in The Killing.

Let's hope The Company We Keep is kept for a long run.

Cold Case: Death Penalty: Final Appeal
(2006)
Episode 20, Season 3

A very emotional story and I think one of the best
This story was compelling from the get-go. I'm sure I've seen it before but I've been doing re-runs of this show which I always loved. In this episode Andre Tibbs is on death row for rape and murder. For some reason I believed he was innocent (I did not remember the outcome though I'm sure I had seen every episode of this series).

When I saw his boss, Wayne Nelson, I immediately told myself he did it (he actor often acts as a bad person). The ADA was so uncaring and would not listen when he was told that maybe the man is innocent. I know some say it's a compelling reason to remove the death penalty, but there are some criminals that in my opinion really deserve the death penalty (look at those who we know got their AK rifles and gunned down schools - why spare them)?

Back to the show. Tibbs was asked to tell more about what happened, and he declined. He waited until he was at death's door to spill. Why? He could have told what the letter said from the beginning. And the ADA could have let them see the letter. Maybe Tibbs' life could have been spared.

I cried when they were playing the song "Hallelujah" at the end. And on another note, I went to look up the actor Michael Jace who played Tibbs, only to find out he is actually doing time in jail for killing his wife in real life! How ironic! He got 2nd-degree murder. If he had gotten first, he too might have been on death row. What a story.

Anyhow, great, touching episode.

Better Call Saul
(2015)

Good series but don't like Jimmy
I'm sure some people won't agree with me, but to be honest I liked Jimmy up to episode 8 or thereabouts of the final season, season 6. From episode 9 I seriously started to dislike him and even also Kim.

***Spoilers ahead

Even before the dramatic ending with Howard, I had been asking myself why Jimmy and Kim were doing what they were doing to Howard, cause I liked Howard. And then when Howard went to their apartment and started asking them the same questions I was, which were, why are you doing this, I believed I was on the right track. I couldn't understand why they were so childish and mean.

Well Kim answered that same question in episode 10 I think it was, when she quit on Jimmy. And I think she did the right thing. Guilt is a funny thing. Although it seems Jimmy had no guilt whatsoever. He proved that when in one of the following episodes, when they were planning on hitting on a mark, Jimmy's accomplice had a conscience and didn't want to continue because he said the man had cancer. Jimmy fired him and went on to target the mark himself. It ultimately led to it being messed up and to his ultimate downfall, because he did not have a conscience.

I really disliked him at that time and glad he got his just deserves. I never watched Breaking Bad although I know about it, and if Jimmy is anything like he is coming to the end of Better Call Saul, then I'm not interested. But B. C. S. Was a very interesting show.

Minamdang: Episode #1.15
(2022)
Episode 15, Season 1

Upset but still giving a good rating
I've been watching this show and enjoying it thoroughly. It's so interesting yet funny and has dramatic parts. I had a misconception about something and wanted it to play out and see if I was right.

Spoilers ahead!!!

Prosecutor Cha in this series was also a prosecutor in the show Abyss. Spoiler for Abyss so don't read further if you haven't seen Abyss yet and plan to watch it.

In Abyss Prosecutor Cha (different name there) started off as a good guy but we found out he was very bad. So when I saw the same actor here in Cafe Minamdang as a prosecutor as well, and starting off as a nice guy, I was thrilled because I find he is so cute and nice and sweet.

I had some misgivings, some doubts, but was pushing those doubts away. Lo and behold, 8 minutes before episode 15 ended, I got the shock of my life. He turned out to be bad! And here I was rooting for him and feeling bad that he was not going to get "the girl" and wishing they had another girl for him. I'm so upset when he turned out to be bad. I couldn't believe producers would have him play a similar role where he started out good and ended up bad. I'm so disappointed. Still a good show though so on to ep. 16.

Better Call Saul: Point and Shoot
(2022)
Episode 8, Season 6

What an episode before this plus this one
The previous episode that ended so tragically is one for the books. I was frozen and couldn't move when I saw it. Now serious spoilers ahead.

*** I was so shocked when Howard was killed. I didn't see that coming. But I want to comment on Kim and Jimmy, not Howard's killing.

First of all, I've always liked Howard. I always felt he was a stand-up and fair guy. I liked how he spoke to Kim and Jimmy prior to his death, and I liked what he said to Kim especially, that is, that he expects certain bad things from Jimmy, but he thought she was better than that. So did I.

I really couldn't understand why Kim was going along with this horrible scheme of Jimmy's and doing these pranks to Howard. Boy must they feel horrible now. I never watched Breaking Bad, so I have no idea of their lifestyle together, but I do think they should be ashamed and I do blame Howard's death on them. Why couldn't they move on with their lives instead of trying to take him down like that?

And what gets me is that at the memorial Kim dares to soil Howard's name further by stating to his wife and Cliff that she had once seen him snorting something. Is she making that up? Why say that now, when she knows perfectly well that she and Jimmy drew him to their home by their pranks, which caused him to be there to get shot. Also I'm annoyed at the wife too. She is so concerned about Howard's death, yet she had him sleeping in the garage the last 6 months of his life. I saw when he took his time and made that latte for her with the heart design on it. She didn't even say thank you. She just threw it into another cup. There seemed to be no love there so what's all this tears now eh?

People show their love when someone dies, but while they're alive, they treat them like crap. So she should be ashamed as well. Anyhow that's my rant. Hope Jimmy and Kim realiise what horrible human beings they both are cause I have no sympathy for them, the wife included, and I'm sorry for poor Howard.

Sol Yanim: Episode #1.3
(2020)
Episode 3, Season 1

What a fantastic show
I recently came across this show on Youtube by accident. Since then I can't get enough of it. I'm just about to start episode 4 but I had to stop and write about it.

Firstly, Serra is so beautiful. She looks like a Miss Universe winner. If she competed she would win. What I like about her though is she is so feisty, and she is not afraid to speak out.

Spoilers below

I can't stand Burak (Beetroot). I can't stand a man who is so pushy and who cannot seem to take know for an answer. He already decided from day 1 that he wanted Serra, and told Selim to stay away. Imagine that. He has no ownership on her! She never showed him interest! Same thing like Barbar and also the boy who sells in the food stall. I don't know what is wrong with these men. I mean, she really is gorgeous, and I'm a woman saying that. But if someone says they're not interested, why can't Burak get the message? Wow I loved it when she slapped him when he kissed her on the cheek. I can't wait to start episode 4.

Dark Money
(2019)

Mother's race?
I've just started watching this and I had to pause it to give a comment. When the child was about to go to school, the mother who had planned to stay home with him, allowed him to go to school. And she said if he's not okay there, call her.

No way a black mother was reacting like that. Firstly, she was not allowing him to go to school so soon without getting some counselor or family member or pastor involved. And she was heading to a lawyer to make waves. I can't believe this mother's calm reaction. Maybe she might get better but her initial behavior is too calm. I'm a black person and I can tell you no female family member of mine was having that low-keyed reaction like hers.

Anyhow let me continue watching. Will respond again at the end of the full show.

Blue Bloods: Silver Linings
(2022)
Episode 20, Season 12

Interesting season finale
A couple of pointers I want to mention here. Firstly (slight spoilers ahead):

Why would Erin say she's not afraid of winning, but of losing? That is obvious. Who is afraid of winning. I didn't get that comment and felt it was silly.

The pregnant woman in witness protection - where was her mother? We never saw the mother and assume the mother was living elsewhere. So if the mother is alive, how is it that they said they found "no-one" who came forward for the baby. Wouldn't they have to find the mother first and then get permission to adopt the baby? How could Baez so easily get to adopt the baby? And she also being a single mother, and a cop at that?

I consider it a plot hole. Nevertheless, I'm glad for Baez but fear as someone said, that this might be an opening for her to exit the show. Don't forget she is the second partner Danny had. I hope she doesn't leave. I like her and I like the rapport she has with Danny, without there being any romantic notions. (Magnum and Higgins {Magnum P. I.} should take a page out of this book and keep their relationship professional. Just saying).

Magnum P.I.: Close to Home
(2022)
Episode 20, Season 4

Hook ups and break ups?
I don't know why people are always anxious to have the leads hook up. I learnt my lesson since the time of Moonlighting with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd. People want what they want and then when they get it they get turned off or bored.

I myself never was pushing for Magnum and Higgins to hook up, and I sense disaster. It never seems to work out and history has proven it time and time again. I wait to see what happens in Season 5.

As for Kasimoto, I do wish that he and his wife get back together, after all he has sacrificed for her. I'm also rooting for Rick and Suzy. I don't understand these women. They have nice men in their lives but they don't want them. Kasimoto's wife don't want him and Suzy doesn't want Rick. What's up with these women? Or maybe it's the writers?

Hope the show returns but I'm not looking forward to the romance between Magnum and Higgins. I might be the only one.

Emily in Paris
(2020)

Sylvie
Love the show. At first when I saw the title, I said no way I'm watching that. But one night I decided to watch an episode, then binged the 2 seasons over 2 nights.

Love all the characters. Does anybody find that Sylvie reminds you of Swoosie Kurtz from Mike & Molly? Every time I look at her I think of Swoosie. She's just a younger version but they could be sisters!

All Creatures Great & Small: We Can But Hope
(2021)
Episode 3, Season 2

James and Helen
I don't know why some men are so persistent. I guess the heart wants what it wants. I don't understand why James was so persistent in pursuing Helen when she was already engaged to someone else. If you're attracted to someone but they are already involved, move on! Love is a decision. Nd you can decide to move on and seek love elsewhere.

As someone said here, Helen is a farmer and James doesn't really like farming, so look for someone with your same interests, else by the time marriage and 2 children come along, someone might be longing for something different. So I didn't like James 'mooning' over Helen and I feel sorry for her fiance. (But I didn't see the episode so I don't exactly know why Helen broke up with him).

I can't believe only 29 reviews so far
I've just finished watching this series for the second time, and I think I may wait a few days and start it all over again. What a beautiful show. I sobbed like a baby just now in the ending, even though I saw it the first time a few weeks ago. The show is just simply beautiful, wonderful, exhilarating and many more adjectives.

I loved all the leads, despised none except the grandfather, but he was acted exceptionally as well.

I fell in love with the king (the prince/princess), Royal Scribe Jung, her love interest. Oh my that I was years younger and in Korea! As the crown prince/king, the female lead was wonderful. Her expressions, her mannerisms, everything was so well acted! And Scribe Jung - so handsome, and when he blushes or looks at her with love, you just want to melt.

The acting overall was superb, and I cannot tell when I last enjoyed a show like this. I watch a lot of Netflix shows, I even watched Squid, and I watched Bridgerton twice, but I am in love with the King's Affection and have really been blown away.

I gave this 10 stars and if I could have given it 20 I would. If you haven't watched this yet, and you love a good story with good drama, romance, love, action, fighting and excitement, then put this as top priority on your list, and then come back and write about it. I'm reading every review! I can't get enough of this show.

Baekilui Nanggoonnim
(2018)

Most enjoyable
I must say this is my first period drama Korean series, and it did not disappoint! Even though I had to read continuously because there was no English dubbing, only subtitles, I wouldn't have it any other way. I need to watch and hear this show in their language.

I fell in love with the Prince, I must say, and I'm probably twice or more his age! He had me from the get go. I liked him when he first had his memory, loved him when he had lost it and when it returned.

The acting on both his part and I-seo were wonderful, and all the actors too were superb. I have some favorites. I liked Gul-do I think he is, and even Lord Park made me laugh so much times. I loved I-seo's father. He was such a simple yet smart man.

I hated the First Vice Premier, and couldn't wait to see his die. But he is a good actor too. People have been talking about Bridgerton, I am one of those. I love Bridgerton. But I can tell you that I put this show up there right with it. I couldn't get enough of this. As soon as I finished the 16th episode, I went right back to episode 1, just like I did with Bridgerton, and I'm now on ep 3 of 100 days again. I'm also watching The King's Affection.

These producers and writers are very good. Only Korean shows are popping up now on my Netflix feed, and I can't wait to watch more. Give this show a try and you will definitely become addicted. The love scenes were so pure and sweet, and that's what I also love about these. They're enjoyable, they have action fighting, drama, and love, and makes for a beautiful yet "clean" and pure story. I do love my prince. Watch it people and enjoy.

The Sinner: Part VIII
(2020)
Episode 8, Season 3

I thought it was only me
I came here expecting to be the only one annoyed with Season 3 with Bill Pilman and Matt Bomer. Guess I was not alone. Someone said they wasted eight hours. Someone else called themselves stupid for going to the end. I concur. I feel the same way.

Right through the episodes Harry (Bill) was most annoying. But the biggest annoyance (spoiler alert) was when he allowed himself to be buried alive. Also when he went to his house at the end without alerting the police.

Then Anne Hecht. What was she thinking. Did she have a wish to die. Someone tells yo7 this man is looking to kill and you stay in the house, then trie to talk to him? Something was wrong with that woman.

And don't get me started on Jamie (Bomer). What an idiot. The same way his friend Nick didn't want to die and was begging for his help was the same way he was begging for his life and didn't want to die? And what was their reasoning? Go figure. Stupidity at its best. Sick minds. That's all I can say.

I hated the plot. Loved Season 1 and 2. Hoping Season 4 is better than 3 else I'm done. Harry better get his act together. Like the older he gets is the more stupid he behaves.

La Brea: Origins
(2021)
Episode 8, Season 1

What an episode - the Origins
This episode blew me away. There is such a twist and a reveal in the ending of the episode that I can't wait for next week.

I can't say anything without giving something away so that's all I'm gonna right, but this show is very exciting. It reminds me of how I felt watching the 4400 when it aired a couple of years ago. Wonderful series, both that and this, La Brea.

This is pronounced La Bray yer, but where I'm from, we have a place with the same name, but it's pronounced La Bray. Just an extra thought for you readers.

Kastanjemanden
(2021)

Superb plot and acting
This show blew me away. Before I finished episode 5 I went back and started it over. When I finished the last episode (episode 6), I was so stunned, so I went back and watched over episode 1!

I plan to rewatch 2-5 and maybe even 6. It was that good.

A must see drama, suspense and mystery if that's what you're looking for.

Magnum P.I.: Island Vibes
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 4

My 2 cents worth
Why is Magnum so cheap? TC is a hardworking helicopter pilot and Magnum always wants him to do work for him for free. He never pays. He always promises to pay and he never does? Couldn't he at least cover for fuel for the helicopter? He must be getting paid by his client. No wonder Higgins isn't interested in him. He drives a fancy car that he doesn't pay for. Lives in a wonderful big home that he doesn't pay rent for. Gets drinks from his friend's bar that I'm sure he doesn't pay for. And helicopter errands that he does not contribute towards. He's too cheap! Lol. I couldn't date a man like that.

In ep 1 which aired on Oct 1, why didn't Magnum just hide until the other bad guy come back in the room and then shoot him, rather than stop to untie the girl and then run until the man came back in and they had a big shootdown. He could have hidden behind the door and shoot the man as he came in, THEN untie the girl. I guess the writer wanted the shoot out and excitement.

Unlike one of the reviewers here, I don't have a problem with Magnum getting a girlfriend and Higgins dating the doctor. At first I didn't like him but now I'm over it. Let them do what they want. I don't care about the romance aspect either way.

The Starling
(2021)

A beautiful movie
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I saw it pop up in my Netflix and decided to watch it, and I was not disappointed.

Melissa McCarthy is such a comedian, and you expect to see that in the movie, and while it had it's comedic parts, it was such a beautiful story.

The starling was a star in its own right, and the acting was lovely, especially by Melissa and her TV husband I think his name is Chris Dowd.

I did not make out Timothy Olyphant. He looks so different from when he was in the series Justified. Kevin Kline was good as well. All in all a lovely movie and I would recommend it if you're looking for a movie to lay back, relax and enjoy.

La cocinera de Castamar
(2021)

A surprising gem of a series
I didn't know what to expect when I first saw this series pop up on Netflix. I decided to watch it with both English subtitles and the dubbed audio in English. I was not disappointed as I can manage the dubbing very well.

I loved, loved this show! I didn't want it to end and actually dragged it out tp preserve it longer.

I loved all the actors. Amelia always made me laugh with the exclamations she was always making. What I liked with the series also is that it wasn't afraid to kill off certain characters who you really were not expecting to be killed off. Also, the mysteries that were revealed were great reveals, for example how Alba, the original duchess, really died. Don't want to give away any spoilers but that whole reveal is extremely fantastic.

I do wish it didn't end so drastically. I would have liked to know, seeing he gave up the duchy, what does that entail. Do they go back to living in the same house? Does someone else become a duke? What happens to the brother Gabriel and Amelia, and all the servants. Did Mr Eliza end up with Mrs Ursula? Too many questions remain unanswered, so hopefully there's a season 2 or an episode to clarify the ending and what happens to everyone. Truly a lovely story though.

The Blacklist: Dr. Laken Perillos (No. 70)
(2021)
Episode 10, Season 8

Not sure what's really happening here
In my review of the previous episode (S.8 ep9), I was harsh as I did not like it. This one (ep 10) was a bit of improvement, only because it did not follow the ridiculous storyline of ep 9.

Laverne Cox guest starred in this episode, and while it was interesting enough to hold my attention, there were some loopholes which I would state and hereby put spoiler alert.

Dr Laken Perillos is a torture specialist. Her reasoning or rationale for her torture regime is, her nother was treated very badly during some surgery or other, so now she is taking it out on others. And her mother was tortured by white doctors I believe. Now, first of all, if your mother suffered so much, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that you would go in the opposite direction and try to help people in their pain?

Secondly, she stated that white people hurt her mother. Then why would you kidnap Dembe who is black like you and suffer him through that torture? It made no sense to me.

Thirdly, when she eventually was captured by the FBI, she crumbled worse than a crusty pastry. The fear in her eyes, her trembling, gone immediately was this fierce, scary torturer and instead was this weak, frightened person. It was ridiculous.

I don't know who directed this one, but I don't blame Laverne for how she played that; I blame the writer/director.

Something extremely wrong is going on at The Blacklist writers' table and they need to get their act together or they're going to be losing fans. I can't believe James Spader isn't saying something about all this. Get your act together guys.

The Blacklist: The Cyranoid (No. 35)
(2021)
Episode 9, Season 8

I really wanted to give it 1 star
OK what is it I'm watching here? Has The Blacklist gone sci-fi? Was I watching an episode of the Avatar with ...? Come on! I love Andrew McCarthy, but did he really direct this crappy episode? Now by this time we must all realise that something is going on with the actress who plays Liz, cause no way would she stay away from the show and let them railrod her character like this.

I wasn't sure what show I was watching. Only recently I was saying that maybe it's time for the Blacklist to "hang up its guns". But then I saw season 8 episode 6 I think it was, and thought it fantastic, and decided that the Blacklist still has some good episodes in it.

Jump to ep 9 and I'm back to my previous thoughts. It's time for the show to be put to bed. If there is some reason that Megan Boone can no longer play Liz, either replace the actress with the doppelganger for good, or another, kill off her character, or end the show, but this doppelganger/avatar storyline isn't going to cut it.

The Bachelorette: Episode #16.4
(2020)
Episode 4, Season 16

Shocking amended
I'm happy for Clare and Dale and wish them every happiness.

What I don't like is when the producers make the previews so misleading and even when they talked to Dale prior to the proposal, they made you feel like he had said no. I don't like misleading information just to get you hooked and for ratings.

I'm going to finish the episode and after that, that's it for me. I hope things work out with the new girl but I'm not going to invest more time in this.

I do feel sorry for the guys though. I don't know how they can succumb themselves to that humiliation.

I finished watch the episode and saw the new girl Tashaia. She is beautiful. But more than that, she was on Jimmy Kimmel last night. She has such a wonderful personality and is not sel-absorbed like Clare. I plan to watch next week to see where it goes. I like her.
