Jeni, Juno
(2005)

too much fairytale, not enough reality
I didn’t like this Movie on many accounts. First, the overall message was astonishing to me. I understand it is suppose to be a light-hearted comedy but in my book, underage pregnancy is not a topic that should ever be construed as so. Second, I imagined myself viewing this movie as if I were a teenager again. This is the message that I would have token away as a teenager, boy gets girl pregnant, boy and girl are both from well to do families, miraculously through the magic of cinema, the baby has no complications at birth, nor does the pregnant mother ever put on any weight, and overall, parents will “understand” and eventually will live happily ever after. Now this to me, is a horrible message as it doesn’t lead anywhere.

Even at the very end where I expected some sort of realization that this teenage mother in a café surround by mature women discussing their baby woes, may shed some sort of light but this then gets turned into (through the magic of cinema) another scene where somehow, the whole family appears, the Entire school supports the underage pregnancy, marriage, etc. of these two teens, and that somehow everything will turn out alright

To me, this film sends the wrong message for any age viewer under 21. I say this because most, maybe not all, under this age, have a limited or lack a concrete understanding of how horrible teenage pregnancy can be...the alarming statistics of these un-wed, sometimes, improperly cared for babies who, even if they do make it, usually have far tougher stats if the teenage parents do decide to stay with the baby all the way through adulthood, and for the majority, do not end up in fairytale endings.

Anyhow, to conclude, when I was a teenager, I consider myself at least a bit more responsible and conjured up the courage to contact a place called Planned Parenthood before "doing the deed" and getting information before making such a half-hearted life changing decision.

I’m glad I never saw such a Movie growing up, and if you have the choice to, would suggest giving this Movie a watch before recommending/endorsing/etc. etc. to someone you care about.

The Drugging of Our Children
(2005)

Serious cause for concern
Don’t let the rating for this film underscore its overall message. I too agree that Documentaries generally carry a bias for the issues that the documentary would consider relevant and pay little to no attention on opposing opinions.

Nevertheless, what this documentary does is point out relevant themes and trends in the United States, Europe, and other major countries where Pharmaceutical companies have come to encompass almost every facet of life whether we want to acknowledge it or not.

This documentary also points out key issues related to an alarming increase in High School Shootings that have become relatively common occurrences for this generation without an end or solution in sight.

The foremost of these being the Columbine Shooting that seemed to ignite a nationwide crisis.

It further points out a critical factor that the news media, general public, and politicians may have overlooked namely that of their mental states rather than looking for an easy answer based on their taste in music or manner of dress.

I would highly recommend this Documentary as well as Michael Moore’s Sicko which I have yet to watch myself but knowing Moore, will point out the serious flaws and holes of the opposition’s arguments or lack there of.

After School Special
(2003)

skip it
skip it...National Lampoon's continue trend to disappoint dates way back this film, Spring Break, Gold Diggers, please i'd rather not continue this list National Lampoon's used to stand for smart, sexy, outrageous comedy to me...what happened? i mean i did not laugh a smile once throughout this film if it can be called that anywho, hope things go up from this and other horrible films that should have never been made...TV Reality comes to mind...absolute garbage...i'd really rather see them try to make some quality films instead of trying to mass produce a bunch of junk, shoddy films with fancy looking covers and titles that don't deliver in anyway but just drag on same old tried jokes and progress in the same manner since the 90's...sorry National Lampoon, but this film, like many other unfortunate opportunities i've given due to the name, reputation, and heritage...well, looks like somewhere, somehow, something went terrible wrong
