City of Ember
(2008)

A huge fan of the book gives his opinion
I read this book years ago for a school assignment, and it become my favorite. The plot is simple, an underground city where people were sent to be saved from the end of the world and two children find the directions out. Doesn't that sound like a good plot for a NOVEL? Which brings me to my opinion of the anticipated (for me) film adaptation of my favorite book of the year. Being as it is a movie based on the book, there will always be somethings changed. But this one stayed pretty close . . . as I could point out the three or four alterations while viewing the film. I had hoped for this to become a movie for a long time, and I say to you do not listen to the low box office. It is a good film, thought predictable and screams out "There's a novel better than this!" throughout the whole film. For a fan of the novel, it's good.

Surf's Up
(2007)

For one of the dozens of penguin movies we have gotten, this one wasn't half bad
Ever since the documentary "March of the Penguins", studios have sent to us tons of cutesy penguin films to make our eyes bat at the adorable birds. But I do have to admit, this one was okay. Having popular names such as Shia Labouef and John Heder to it, it wasn't something that I could truly hate. CGI was fair, as no company will ever amount to Pixar's work. But throughout all the kiddy and cuteness of this child film, there was an enjoyable movie that took the voice talent and slight dark humor to get out. You won't love it most likely, but parents will at least be entertained while your kid adores this as they will nearly any movie.

Napoleon Dynamite
(2004)

A 21st century classic
Out of all of the movies I've seen and reviewed, this is one of the most hilarious ones I have. It's full of just the random humor I have grown up with, and will be funny for anyone who laughs at just about anything. It's low-budget, mellow, and filled with sudden cracks that will make your cheeks hurt. Like many other comedy films, it doesn't make much sense but this one doesn't really need to. I recommend this to ones that have been told to have a "special" sense of humor, others will likely not enjoy this film nearly as much as me. Don't watch it you are serious, enjoying movies more action or dramas. For Napoleon Dynamite is the most silly, random movie I've ever seen.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause
(2006)

Santa Clause 3: The Downhill Spiral
When I was a child, I was lucky enough to have my father show me the hilarious family movie "Santa Clause". So naturally, when the new one came out I just had to see it. Seeing as the second one wasn't THAT bad, I figured this one would be okay. Well, I was wrong. Santa Clause 3 not only turns the series into a little-kid Christmas tale movie, but shows how unafraid Tim Allen is of ruining his reputation for money. Not very cute, not very funny, and not very fun for anyone but your three year-old. I only pray that Martin Short and the rest of the brilliant actors can get their careers back in order after this film. I recommend this film for no one and hope that your kid doesn't beg you to rent it.

Madagascar
(2005)

I like to milk it, milk it
Madagascar, another attempt to top Pixar in any way that is possible. And out of all the mediocre animated comedies Dreamworks has handed us...this is the one with the most potential. Aside from the first two "Shrek" movies (which actually succeeded in this), Madagascar is the one that didn't quite make it but had the most potential too. Good storyline, lovable characters, good animation, but containing the flaws that other animated films by the company has. Unlike the trailers tell you (explaning the wonder half a million dollar box office world-wide), this film takes a turn for not the better when the last fifty minutes milks the "Move it, Move it" tune and carries out the rest of the film using that. But all in all, it is cute movie and worthy of a spot on your shelf.

Blades of Glory
(2007)

Sick, tastleess, raunchy, and likable
If it weren't for the hilarious team of Heder and Will Ferrell, this movie would not have much of a point. But thankfully, we have them...and we are entertained and joyed at their attempt at comedy. I recall seeing this back in 07 with my mother, and her angered at a tasteless reference...while I simply watched laughing at the silly ice skate movie. If you are not a fan of movies that attempt so much laughs that they are stupid, do not watch it. But if you want something that has nothing but constant laughs and doesn't hold back at all to stay family oriented...then you will enjoy this for sure. But something that deserves notice: Do not watch this with a date, parents, siblings, family members, or anyone else that you have a reputation with. And parents, this is not something that will refrain from giving your children many questions. All in all, a funny, raunchy, friend-oriented movie.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
(2005)

As personally not a fan of "Star Wars", I liked it
My dad has always been undoubtedly a bigger Star Wars fan than I was, and when he wanted me to come see this movie with him I showed up for the popcorn. Star Wars has never exactly been my taste, as none of the other movies really caught my interest. But luckily I was convinced to come to this one, and I was pleasantly surprised by its outcome. With expectations of simply sitting through it, I was entertained by its great storyline and amazing movie effects. It's action-packed, with a little bit of comedy, and an awesome final installment to make any Star Wars fan happy. I recommend this to anyone with a taste for action and adventure, and maybe not even that big of a fan of the series to be honest.

The Dark Knight
(2008)

Overrated, but still a good film
The Dark Knight has won numerous awards since it's release almost a year ago, but in my opinion doesn't exactly deserve the top 250 list. A little too long, lacking an opening, and containing the infamous Batman voice Bale used, this film gets a lot of flaws ignored that some other films would get trashed for. Still, though not the most fantastic film of the summer, it is an enjoyable movie for all and anyone will at least like it. Throughout these mistakes, we are given the fantastic acting of the late Heath Ledger to make up for it, which undoubtedly is one of the best villains we've ever seen. Though overrated, this amazing performance and good story making is sure to entertain. Your Batman fanatic will love it, and you will enjoy it.

Back to the Future Part III
(1990)

A good way to wrap it up, but otherwise the least of the three
If BTTF 3 were not the end, then what would become of this film? Notably lacking the wit of the first one, which had such memorable jokes as the "Tab" conversation. If anything, this is more like a past version of the second one...using aspects the previous film had. The first time you see it will be out of curiosity, the second for your friend to see it, and then I doubt that it will leave your shelf. Lucky for you the DVD comes in a trilogy, so you don't have to buy it just by itself to see this finale of one of the most well-loved time travel films around. All in all, a good way to end it...but a so-so stand alone movie.

Shrek the Third
(2007)

A good storyline, but lacking that emotional feel the first two gave
Shrek has been and will most likely always be one of my favorite movies. Being that way, I wanted to see this one more than anyone else I knew. And unfortunately, I was left disappointed at the film. Being the only Dreamworks production that could ever top a Pixar film, Shrek had my standards a little too high for this third installment. The cast was good, containing former SNL players for voice acting, but did absolutely nothing for that soft spot that the previous two movies poked at. Basically, Shrek the Third is just another movie...nothing notable and maybe two things particularly funny and surely will create some kind of money loss for the fourth. Perhaps useful if you wish to kill ninety minutes, but otherwise do not bother.

Poketto monsutâ: Serebî - Toki wo koeta deai
(2001)

A step down from the original trilogy, but enough to keep a Pokemon fan happy
The fourth installment in the Pokemon film series is quite a different one. With more of a time travel feel to it, this movie will entertain most fans of the show at it's use of this phenomenon. Attempting to show to use more of a moral about friendship this film does...and that is quite a little overdone. It should be noted that time paradoxes were very much avoided, and they ought to be commended for that. Still, it contained a little too much childishness for comfort, being not an example that Pokemon isn't just for kids. If you, like my father, are watching it for the sake of your child's happiness...don't worry. You'll be entertained somewhat and will not sit through as long of a film as the other three. Still not nearly the best they can do, your family Pokemon fan will like it.

The Simpsons Movie
(2007)

Not my favorite movie, but definitely a great one
It's about time! The longest running animated show finally became a film. And if you were like me and anticipated it extremely, you'll feel let down. But just a little, for in my opinion it is more than just a long Simpsons episode. It has many memorable, funny aspects that only a movie could have. The main reason why I saw this is because I was curious at how they would turn this series into a movie, and I do not think that it could have been done better. Being as big of a Simpsons fan as I am, this is the movie that was worth waiting for. Without even having too much swearing, this is a film you will respect for being as good as it was without having too much innuendo. Joke-after-joke, they managed to make it a great movie along with being a feast of laughter.

Super Mario Bros.
(1993)

Cheesy, corny, a film a KID will like
Super Mario Bros. was one of the first games I'd ever played, and when I heard there was a movie I nearly went crazy. I looked every time I stumbled upon a BlockBuster store, and there it was. The Mario movie, waiting there for me. Two hours later, I was amazed. Luckily I was just a child, for now I look back and realize what a bad movie it really was. No Bowser , no princess Toadstool, no guy with a mushroom on his head, and no budget. It surprised me that it had such a low gross, but now I am not. Mario Mario and Luigi Mario, two plumbers sent to another dimension to stop a guy named "King Koopa" who ended up being nothing like the games. Quite off from them, a Mario fan will love it and the rest of us will hate.

Step Brothers
(2008)

Funny, full of swearing, and the team of Will Ferrel and Reilly just add to it
At first I didn't have much of an interest in seeing this movie, seeing as it would be just another silly Will Ferrell film. But coming out of the theater, I was still laughing at some of the jokes. If you're a fan of him, you will enjoy this. If you are not, then you will be in for some laughs. Nothing worthy of an Oscar (though comedy isn't usually in that) and most likely won't become your favorite, but is still an enjoyable film to see. Be sure to bring your sense of humor, because without it it is just two grown men fighting like toddlers. If you are into more sophisticated jokes...then this is not for you. But if what you're in the mood for is laugh after laugh, then I recommend it.

Shark Tale
(2004)

Kids will love it, parents will be annoyed at its attempt for cuteness
With Finding Nemo released a year before this, it was only a matter of time before Dreamworks came with another Oscar-nominated CGI project. Pulling in big stars such as Will Smith, Renée Zellweger, Jack Black and tons others, this proves Dreamworks desperation to make a film that can top Pixar...which in my opinion Shrek is the only one with a chance. Filled with clever puns such as "Shell Phones" and "Kelpy Creams", but really tries too hard. You're children will probably enjoy Shark Tale better, but later will see how much Finding Nemo makes a better film. Good for keeping your kids quiet for 90 minutes or so...but be sure to order refreshments so at least you'll have something that you're getting by seeing this giant attempt for hipness and laughs.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
(2007)

Fans of the books will be upset at the 300 pages cut out, while making a good stand-alone film for others
I've been reading Harry Potter books for a long time, and this was one I was looking forward to seeing. I expected things to be cut, seeing as the longest book would have to have parts omitted to make a decent-sized movie. Though knowing how people are, they would pay to see a three hour film...such as "Lord of the Rings" takes all day it seems. So why not add things? More like keep things in. Personally my favorite out of all of them is the fourth one, but I was still some-what impressed with the quality and how it still remained a fairly good film despite half of the book being cut out. If you've read the book, be prepared to be at least somewhat disappointed with the cuts. But otherwise, you will be entertained and who ever comes with you will like it too.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
(2004)

First time you'll laugh, second time you'll chuckle, third time you'll expect everything
Some time ago, I came across this movie and it instantly became one of my favorite ones and just about the funniest movie I'd seen. If you're looking for slapstick, unpredictable, joke-after-joke film...then this is for you. It's just about as hilarious as it can get the first time, but then after a while you'll just grow sick of it. Truly it was good when I first saw it, but after re-watching it many times I got bored with it (just like most other films do sometimes). The humor is mainly funny if you don't see it coming, but other than that it is just another DVD on your shelf. All in all it is a silly, unpredictable movie that you will surely give you laughs if you haven't seen it before.

Dance Flick
(2009)

Not worthy of a 2 star IMDb score, but containing nothing that can impress
I am personally a big fan of the "movie" films (like Epic Movie and other ones), but this still left me disappointed. I recognize that the movies are bad, but always have a tendency to make me laugh. This one, however, was not. It wasn't bad in my opinion, seeing as the Wayanes Brothers put a little more effort into it rather than mindless spoofs after spoof. Perhaps funnier if you see the movies it parodies, though I have seem a couple. But to put it in a nutshell...if Star Trek and every other good movie currently out suddenly were full, this would be your movie to see. It's fast-paced, got a few chuckles, and will be over before you can get bored of it.

Monsters vs. Aliens
(2009)

Computer animation needs to be left to Pixar in my opinion
Ever since Pixar started, Dreamworks has been spewing animated films at us to keep our attention. While some, such as Shrek and Madagascar, are able to satisfy us...others like Shark Tale and this movie just prove how hard Dreamworks tries to match Disney/Pix in animation. Illogical, boring, and lacking that emotional spot that other animated movies have, this movie will have laughs for the kids and sighs for adults. As for the studio, quit while you're behind. And parents, brace yourself for the most overrated film of the year. Just be prepared, like I was, to want your ninety minutes back.

2/5 stars and a thumbs down

Gekijô-ban poketto monsutâ - Myûtsû no gyakushû
(1998)

It proves why Pokemon should not be rated "G"
This is it, the one we've all been waiting for. Everyone shook with anticipation to see the first Pokemon movie, and here is what I thought: Really good. I really liked it. And definitely worthy of a PG rating. I grew up with Pokemon, so it was natural for me to love the movie (though I can point out when one is bad). One thing that may mislead you is the fact that it was giving a G rating. Unlike the show (most of the time), this movie deals with the topic of death in many ways. Confirmed that scientists in the one of the early scenes were killed, this proves that Pokemon is not for little kids. It's got morals, action, and everything you could want. Seeing as Pokemon has a number of haters, I recommend watching the movie yourself and make that descision. I, being as big of a Pokemon fan as I am, would show this movie to anyone ready for a good anime.

Gekijô-ban poketto monsutaa: Mizu no Miyako no Mamori Gami Ratiasu to Ratiosu
(2002)

Underrated and awesome
Pokemon Heroes is fun. It's action packed, full of suspense, and everything a Pokemon fan like myself could want. Some may tell you different, Pokemon is known for being hated on for things every movie has. It may be short, but it will leave you entertained. My fourth favorite out of all of them, watch it yourself without a negative output, as most people who watch this movie do. Another example of why Pokemon is not for little kids, this movie will be entertaining to any fan of the show and people who don't watch the show might like it as well. Probably the most underrated out of all the films, give it a chance and you will find some soft-spot for it. Fans love it, others give it a try and you might like it for yourself.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
(2004)

Show is good. Movie disappointing.
I remember always sitting on the couch and watching Spongebob with my father, it was sort of our show. So naturally, when the movie came out, we both went to see it. And...unfortunately...I was not very fond of it. A pure example of putting less effort into a film because they know it will be a box office hit, and it was. Little kids will laugh and sing along, but later will realize how bad of a film this is. With musical numbers, nudity jokes, and all the kiddie material any kid could want...this should have been given the rating of "G". Seeing as other Nickelodeon film adaptions aren't really that bad, it shows how little effort the studio put into this one.
