The Dark Knight
(2008)

The Best Movie You Can Get For This Genre
It is on a very rare occasion that you find a sequel that's better than the original. This is one of those rare occasion

Moving on from the end of Batman Begins. Bruce Wayan (batman, Christian Bale) goes on to fight crime in Gotham City, only this time against The Joker (Heath Ledger of course). This movie surprised me with the turning out of my favourite Batman Villon and as your watching it, it just get's better and better. Christopher Nolan has changed the meaning of BATMAN with his last two movies, especially this one. The role of Batman is best suited for Christian Bale and no one (to this date) could play him better. Heath Ledger gives an amazing performance as The Joker and proved to me that he is one of the greatest and most talented actors who'd lived. I recommend this movie to any action fans, comic fans, one-liner comedy fans or Christover Nolan fans.

11/10. 10/10.

Prom Night
(2008)

As Far as PG 13 Trashy Horror Goes... This is the Best You'll Find
This movie was so badly criticized, that as I saw it at the cinemas. The better it got, the more I enjoyed it. It actually had me on the edge of my seat.

The story is quite intriguing, frightful, suspenseful and terrifying. The main character is played by the wonderful young actress Brittany Snow (Hairspray, Pacifier) and despite what many, many people had said about her and the rest of the young actors and actresses performances, I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie; it's worth watching.

As far as recommendations go, I recommend this to anyone who like suspense without too much gore, trashy horror or just a good spooky story. Yes, this movie is certainly not a masterpiece, but it's quite enjoyable.

7.4 out of 10.

Platoon
(1986)

As Good as Apocalypse Now... Next to Perfect
This is one of the two best Vietnam movies ever made, alongside apocalypse now. Oliver Stone has proved many times, how excellent he is at making films. This movie is extremely powerful, dramatic, sad and suspenseful. Worth watching for anyone who enjoys war movies or mostly any movies.

Platoon explores the action of the Vietnam war (the shooting and fighting) and shows the (sometimes even more horrible) side of the war, the way it effects the soldiers. There are many, many scenes in this movie that could draw a tear from ANYONE, this movie is utterly brilliant!

Charlie Sheen plays the "new guy" volunteering to fight for America in Vietnam. He makes friends, enemies and troubles. His two commanding officers (Bessenger and Deffoe) have a grudge against each other. Sheen decides to take the side of Deffoe. Whether that's good or bad, you shall find out. This movie shows the sides of the war that make the soldiers go insane, crazy, addicted to drugs, suicidal and homicidal.

No fault... 11/10

A Clockwork Orange
(1971)

One of the Best Films Ever Made
One of my biggest wishes about this movie is that Stanley Kurbrick were alive to see the huge and successful re-release of his perfectly brilliant artwork.

Malcom McDowell plays the sly and cunning Alex. He likes a bit of the old ultra-violence with his three drogues. As far as I'm concerned is this movie is often extremely under rated, I was glad to see that it was in the IMDb top 250.

A Clockwirk Orange is visually brilliant, absolutely stunning; hardly any faults. After watching this memorable masterpiece you will have lines, music and scenes in your head. Still giving the impact of what they did while you were watching it. Singing in the rain will never be the same to you. The elements and effects of drama in this movie are outstanding, it's one of the most powerful films I have ever seen and one of the best perspective of the future (even though it was made in the late 60s). This movie has an unbelievable power to it, that creeps you and keeps you interested at the same time. You see the main directing signature of Stanley Kurbrik a lot, the P.O.V (point of view) shot. Although the movie focuses on the more horrible sides of life, you still get a good feel from it by the end; and that is what helps keep this movie brilliant, you DO NOT lose interest in it. Every part of it is extremely attractive, the beginning, the middle and Kurbrik even managed to give it an ending to suit it. The amazing flash backs and shots showing how Alex is thinking helps to also make the brilliance more obviously shining; and to think of how low budget this amazing attraction is or was.

I recommend this to anyone whose ever liked any 'off beat' film and can handle a bit of violence. 9.7/10

The Rainmaker
(1997)

Great Drama
This movie is a great drama with excellent movie by Elmer Bernstein, if you liked A Few Good Men or A Time To Kill, this movie is for you. It leaves them for dead. This movie showed me that Matt Damon is one of the best 'good guy' actor that I've viewed.

Francis Ford Capolla brings this almost perfect film co-staring Danny DeVito, Clairy Danes and Micky Roarke. The story starts when a small, infamous lawyer (Matt Damon) getting a job at a reasonably small law firm business. His boss (Micky Rourke) is a helpful character capable of giving the opportunities to who ever he feels necessary. Danny DeVito plays the co-worker who helps Matt Damon throughout his first case, which happens to be a big one; and finally, Clarie Danes. Is the victim who he happens to meet in an emergency room, beaten by her husband. He's determined to help her.

This movie is great. Worth watching by anyone.

I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

My advice... Watch it.

The Godfather
(1972)

Perfection Has a Name.... The Godfather
Francis Ford Capolla's The Godfather is perfect, faultless and gripping. This film will really not stop sticking you to your chair. Al Pacino's second feature film and no doubt his best. His character is lovable and thrilling.

It all begins when The Godfather (Marlon Brando) is granting favours, on the day of his daughters wedding. It is a tradition, not to deny a wish. Chaos is caused and problems occur. Problems which cause his oldest son Sunny (James Caan) to take over his role temporarily. Sunny, being the aggressive and annoyed one of all the sons. Causes something else to occur. Each problem causes another. The adopted son Tommy (Robert Duvall) is a lawyer and is capable of making a small portion of the problems disappear. This movie is literally gripping, no matter how tired or annoyed you are. This will still end up being your number one favourite movie; and Al Pacino is Michael, the youngest son, and probably his fathers favourite. He gives a perfect performance. With other brilliant actors through out the film (John Cazalle, Dianne Keaton) this film is, I will say it again, perfect! I STRONGLY recommend this movie to absolutely anyone and everyone. Most probably the best work of the brilliant director Franciss Ford Capolla.

I give it a 110% and an 11 out of 10.

PERFECT!

The 39 Steps
(1935)

A Very Good Film
This is a film definitely worth seeing, a film for anyone whose interested in a thriller, drama, crime, mystery or even a romance, this film has it all. Definitely one of Hitchcock's best, including The Lady Vanishes and Phsycho. Wonderful performances, incredible suspense, thrilling, chilling, extremely powerful and definitely the best film released in 1935.

This film is based around an organization called "The 39 Steps", this organization is full of agents, which have secrets, questions, mysteries and fears. One man incidentally and completely accidentally gets tangled in a terrifying conspiracy. This man struggles to keep his life encountering all sorts of problems. He meets different characters, both bad and good and characters that are able to be persuaded to change decisions when offered money.

Excellent filming providing experiences which will virtually tip you off your seat, this film is great! I recommend this film to anyone and everyone and even if you don't like it; it doesn't take all that long. And to anyone who enjoyed this film, I recommend every other Hitchcock movie, especially The Lady Vanishes.

I give this movie a 9.5 out of 10.

The Untouchables
(1987)

A Extremely Underrated Great Movie
Made by the often criticized Brian De Palma, this movie is brilliant. This brilliantly casted, acted, directed, written and edited film is worth watching. The academy award wins and nominations are well deserved.

Robert De Niro is the legendary Al Capone, gangster, murderer and smuggler, but unfortunately there's nothing to pin him down on, he can't be arrested until they have proof of something illegal in his record. Robert De Niro plays the part perfectly.

Kevin Costner is Eliot Ness, someone determined to nail Al Capone, especially when something happens to one of his friends or relatives.

Sean Connery is Malone, his Oscar winning performance is great! His performance actually helps you GET TO KNOW the character, brutal when needed, nice when wanted, this character/ the performance makes the movie worth the watch.

Despite what many people have said, the "stroler scene" is not horrible. I happened to think it was one of the more impressive scenes in the movie. It's a matter of opinion.

In closing, this movie deserves at least a 9 out of 10. I give it a 9.5. Watch this movie.

I Am Legend
(2007)

To all Those Who Bagged This Movie Out: It was Entertaining.
I only have had one problem with this movie and the problem wasn't big enough to make me want to get my money back from the cinema; the special effects. I found the special effects, not even the animals, but the threatening creatures to look the most obviously fake. Yet the story, acting, directing and photography were all great. I was nervous at the time when I went to see the film because of people saying Will Smith's performance was terrible, but I didn't see a problem with it, he is a terrific actor considering the fact that he came from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, which was a great show.

The storyline is great, about the last man on Earth. The movie explains why he is the last man on Earth and how he survives from animals etc. He only has one companion, his dog Sam. A great character who you will grow to be close to. It explains how lonely he is, how he copes with his loneliness and how he feeds himself and keeps himself safe.

The movie sets are extremely realistic and the intensity in some of the scenes (especially one in particular) is unbelievable and the emotions flowing through the movie are very strong and captured well. To anyone who is not sure about watching this movie, you should definitely just watch it, you've got nothing to lose.

7.8 out of 10.

Look Who's Talking
(1989)

A Great and Entertaining 90 Minutes
This movie is a lot more fun and entertaining than I had expected when I sat down to watch it. It gives you a little bit of three great genres: comedy, romance and a hint of drama. John Travolta plays James Ubriacco perfectly, helping you to lose the awareness that your watching a movie. Kirstie Alley is Molly, the single mother trying to cope with her one and only child; which brings us to the famous and lovable Mikey, with the very necessary voice of Bruce Willis, Mikey makes this movie at least six stars.

The movie's fun dialogue captured me on more than one occasion, but I think that one particular line could earn this movie an eight out of ten. When James' grandpa thinks that Molly is married to James, he's talking to her while lying on a hospital bed, he says "of all my daughter in-laws, your my favourite. Your smart and your a good person. That's why Jimmy loves you so much." As a recommendation to others, if you haven't seen this movie, watch it from what I've written above.

Sleepers
(1996)

A Movie Without Faults: The Best Movie Made
This movie is definitely the best movie I've ever seen in my life. Directer Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Toys) gives the best and most emotional film ever made. With the outstanding cast and flawless directing, this movie is perfect. The story is based on four of the closest friends in all of Hell's Kitchen. It shows how close they are as they work together, steal together and sunbathe on roofs together. The story starts to get more interesting when they make one mistake that makes a huge change in their lives forever. The movie shows how they and what they go through when their growing up, what it causes for them when their grown up and how hard they battle to stay out of getting into severe trouble.

Kevin Bacon gives what is in my opinion as the best performance in his life, a different but still brilliant performance by Dustin Hoffman, Bruno Kirby's best film I've seen, my favourite of all Robert De Niro and Brad Pitt's character acting performances, one of the few Jason Patrick films I've seen but no disappointment and without a doubt a perfectly delivered performance by Minnie Driver.

If I could, I would give this movie eleven out of ten stars, recommend for it to be viewed by everyone and put it in the top ten of the IMDb's top 250. A truly perfect film.

Jerry Maguire
(1996)

This Movie Got Me With Hello
Out of all the romantic comedies made in America, that I've seen, this is by far the best. It surprisingly made me laugh almost through the whole movie. One of Tom Cruise's and Cuba Gooding Jr's best and funniest performances. Definitely worth watching.

I'd never seen a Renee Zellweger film until this; and if I hadn't seen this I probably wouldn't of ever watched Bridget Jones's Diary one or two, which turned out to be others which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is a sports talent agent, with some of the biggest clients that anyone has. Until he writes a mission statement.

Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellwegger) is a single mother working at the same office as Jerry. She falls in love with what he writes, a memo.

Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) is a professional footballer, one of Jerry's clients, but not getting enough money or fame for what he is. He wants Jerry to "SHOW HIM THE MONEY".

Bob Sugar (Jay Mohr) is Jerry's big rival, stealing all his clients. He still doesn't have Rod Tidwell though.

Avery Bishop (Kelly Preston) is Jerry's soon to be wife, he's still not sure if she's the right one.

Laurel Boyd (Bonnie Hunt) the hilarious sister of Dorothy who, quite clearly, disagrees with her sister and doesn't approve of Jerry.

Frank Cushman (Jerry O'Connel) is the best football player their, Jerry's most important client and he just wants to play football. Which ever agent can get him the best deal, he'll stick with.

Marcee Tidwell (Regina King) is the aggressive wife of Rod Tidwell and wants the best for her husband, her self and her family.

Ray Boyd (Johnathon Lipnicki) is my favourite character and is the famous son of Dorothy Boyd. Jerry instantly falls in love with him, he feels the same way about Jerry.

9.2 out of 10

Reservoir Wolves
(2001)

Not That Bad
Not half as bad as I thought it would be. I sat down and watched it thinking it was just a second rate spoof of a successful high budget gangster flick. With one scene that actually made me (unexcpectidly) giggle.

I would say to watch this short film because even if you don't enjoy it, it's only ten minutes long. With surprisingly good dialog which was written by William Magger (the writer and director of On The Waterfront). The production value wasn't any where nearly as poor as I thought it would be and the direction (by Ramon Woolfe) wasn't anything to cry over.

As my advice to anyone who might want to watch a quick take off of Reservoir Dogs, you should watch this, but with low expectations.

I'd give it 4.3 out of 10 just because I think Reservoir Dogs is a brilliant movie and this is the only film I've seen spoofing it.

Domino
(2005)

Definitely An Under Rated Movie
Having made films in both production and post production I can appreciate this movie for how absolutely, tremendously difficult it would have been to make and edit. William Goldenberg (the editor) has been known for editing the Michael Mann film Heat. Being an absolute superb editor he did a perfect job on this film. Not only the way this movie was made, but the story wasn't bad either. Frankly, I don't see where there is a problem to have with this movie.

Domino is suspenseful and perfectly done, worth going for many different awards. Keira Knightly plays Domino, the rebelling bounty hunter who thinks the 90210 life style isn't her type. When she lands a job with Micky Roarke the real story starts to begin. With comedy, action, romance and a weird sense of adventure, this movie is definitely worth seeing.

I give it an 8.8 out of 10.

Die Hard
(1988)

A Movie That Will Remain An All Time Classic
This, being the original Die Hard, will become the next "all time classic" but of a different genre to what is usually taking this title. Definitely the best and most original classic action movie ever made and a must see to any movie buff or action lover and with out a doubt the best Die Hard of the three sequels. This will remain to be one of my all time favourite movies.

John McLane (Bruce Willis) is the New York cop whose visiting the Nakatomi building in Las Angeleas (his wife, Holly Genero's work office). John's traveling here for Christmas to see his wife and kids, thinking he will see his wife Holly McLane to find out she's using her madden name, Genero. He hasn't spoken to his kids yet, he's not planning to stay in the same house as Holly but still discusses it. Then the action starts when he's arrived at the building, talking to his wife before he is left alone while she is called down to make a speech. This is when the John McLane trademark starts, the famous way he talks to him self.

The main storyline begins while he's talking to him self and Holly's making a speech, a group of terrorists take over the building. Alan Rickman plays the famous terrorist leader, Hans Gruber, Hans leads organizes under ten more terrorists to take over the only floor still populated in the Nakatomi building, where they are having a Christmas party. While his men are securing all the hostages on the floor and going up to each individual room John is just able to escape through to the exit (fire emergency) stairs. His famous barefoot attempt of survival is shown through out the rest of the movie absolutely timeless lines and hilarious wise cracks.

I recommend this to anyone who can handle the odd gun shot and swear word. 9.5 out of 10

Before Night Falls
(2000)

I Know it was an Excellent Movie.... But....
I can accept that Before Night Falls is a terrificly well done picture, with perfect shots and angles and an excellent cast line up (cameos of Johnny Depp and Sean Penn), but I think there are unnecessary scenes that can make you feel sick. I think it is about half an hour through the movie when it shows the fourteen year old boy having explicit sex and later on showing a fair few homosexual sex scenes. I'd have to disagree with most people and say that I don't think any of the sex scenes were one hundred percent necessary, especially the one with the fourteen year old boy.

Although I do still recommend it to people who can easily handle heavy topics and graphic sex, because the movie (when excluding the sex) is very good. It's almost worth watching just for the performance (or the hilarious look) of Johnny Depp's two roles.

I'd give it 8.4 stars.

Hairspray
(2007)

Amazingly Entertaining
I've heard people say it's the most "lame" and "corny" movies of all time and I've heard people say It's got the best music of all time and both of those statements are true and together they make a very entertaining movie. John Travolta's funny and brilliant performance should be nominated for an Oscar. With the floor less performances by the rest of the cast. Christover Walken, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nikki Blonsky, Brittany Snow, James Marsden, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelly and even Jerry Stiller. A guest appearance by John Waters as a flasher and Ricki Lake (from the original Hairspray as one of the talent agents in the audience.

Even though I usually can't stand musicals, I can say this movie is extremely entertaining, hilarious, musically fun and surprising. I give it 9 and a half to 10 stars. I strongly recommend for any one, any age, any size or any thing else, to watch this movie.

The Da Vinci Code
(2006)

I wasn't disappointed
After reading some other reviews on it, I thought The Da Vinci Code would be disappointing, but despite those reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It may have gone on a bit too long at the end, but all for good reason. I can't fault the directing, by Ron Howard (Randsom); and I can't fault the performances, Tom Hanks (Philladelphia, Forest Gump, Catch Me If You Can), Audrey Tautou (Dirty Pretty Things), Jean Reno (Wasabi, Leon), Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings, X Men) and Paul Bettany (Wimbeldon, Firewall). I found mostly everything about this movie excellent.

If your someone who can easily concentrate for a couple of hours, and you like psychological thrillers. This movie is for you. I'd give it 8 and a half stars.

Wimbledon
(2004)

Great Romantic Comedy
Surprisingly, not many other people enjoyed it, I still think it's great though. I've seen Kirsten Dunst in the Spiderman movies, Bring it on and Jumanji, and this is my favourite movie of hers. I haven't seen Paul Bettany in any other movies, but his performance was great; and Sam Neill, as always, was great. With the same screen writer, Jennifer Flackett, as the premier movie Madeline and the same director (Richard Loncraine) of the 2001 mini series "Band of Brothers" and the 2006 Harrison Ford movie Firewall. As far as romantic comedies go, this would almost be the best. I'd recommend for anyone with a good sense of humour watch it.

Dead Calm
(1989)

Disappointing, unrealistic........ Enjoyable
Having had people tell me that this movie was brilliant and perfect. I started watching it with extremely expectations. After the first half an hour I'd become disappointed, but it was after I was disappointed, that the movie started to grow on me, I started to enjoy it more. I found a lot of it to be annoying and unrealistic, but yet, still enjoyable and suspenseful. I think Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane were great, hardly anything to be faulted. Sam Neill, being one of my favourite actors, I thought was excellent; and the way the characters were introduced, I thought, was done well. Charles Williams should be happy with director Phillip Noyce.

Catch Me If You Can
(2002)

Two Mice Fell Into A Bucket Of Cream, One Gave Up and Drowned, the Other Turned the Cream to Butter. This Movie is the Second Mouse
My all time favourite movie. Absolutely brilliant! Definitely Spielberg's best. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of my ten favourite actors. Everything I've seen him in, both he and the movie it self have been absolutely brilliant.

Leonardo is Frank Abagnale Jr. Someone who became a doctor, lawyer, an airline pilot and managed to con millions of dollars from the government.

Tom Hanks plays the F.B.I. agent Carl Hanratty who is devoting all his spare time to track down capture Leonardo as soon as he can.

Christopher Walken is Frank Abagnale, the father of Frank Abagnale Jr. His son learned most of his skills from his father. His father loves his son, and won't say anything to even hint to his son's location and Nathalie Baye is Paula Abagnale, Franks Jr's mother. She's started a new life and doesn't much care for her former husband, and just wants her son to be safe and not on the run from the government.

This movie is perfect. I strongly recommend this movie to everyone and anyone.

It
(1990)

Overall Disappointing
I had people saying to me that after they watched this movie, they couldn't go to another circus or watch another Stephen King movie. Naturaly this led me to believe that it was a scary, well made, well acted, suspenseful thriller. The first half of it was good, but the second half lost it, with some really stupid scenes. The only thing that I found entertaining was probably Seth Green, Richie the kid; and Tim Curry, Pennywise the clown. Apart from that, I would not recommend for anyone to watch it. It had the potential to be great; but didn't for fill it. "It" could of been a lot better. I'd give it three and a half stars.

Philadelphia
(1993)

A movie that makes you keep your eyes open
Without a doubt, one of my favourite movies. Couldn't of been better. A stunning film with a great soundtrack, it could draw tears from almost anyone. Scenes from this movie could make you cry just from how good they are, for how brilliant they are. Definitely one of the best films made. Tom Hanks' brilliant performance rightfully one an Oscar for best actor in a leading role, along with Bruce Springsteen winning an Oscar for the song Streets of Philadelphia. The excellent performances from Denzel Washington and Antonio Banderes give it a great feel; and the direction from Jonathan Demme makes you feel as if your on the set. With some of the most stunningly brilliant scenes from any movie I've ever watched makes this film perfect. This movie will make you keep your eyes open if you haven't slept for weeks; and the only thing that takes away the awareness that your watching a movie, is to think of how brilliant it is.

As a recommendation, if your putting off watching this movie. Thinking that you might not like it. You need to just watch it, you won't regret it.

Psycho
(1960)

Intense, thrilling, a masterpiece!
One of my favourite films of all time. The intensity of the film is immense, and probably the most suspenseful movies of all time. Hitchcock should of been awarded with a medallion for this one. Definitely his best movie of all time.

Anthony Perkins plays the all time famous Norman Bates, the owner of the infamous Bates motel. A well mannered, young man who looks after his mother in his house next door.

Janet Leigh is the young, attractive, worried sibling looking for her sister after her surprising disappearance.

John Gavin is the polite and curious boyfriend of the young woman whose gone missing, he wants to do everything in his power to help track down his girlfriend.

Martin Balsam plays the detective hired by the sister and the boyfriend, a lot is clear to him, but he's still trying to work things out. He's slowly getting closer to the truth.

John McIntire is Sheriff Al Chambers, he knows a lot about his town and the people in his town. Him and his wife have been their for a while, a big source of information for the others.

All together this is the best horror movie I've seen, and one of the best over all movies. Perfect.

Prime
(2005)

A failed romantic comedy, but a Good Romance
I was looking forward to Prime thinking it would be another brilliant Uma Thurman movie but it turned out to fail as a romantic comedy. Very few romantic comedies are successful at the moment, so I'm not usually surprised when I watch one that isn't that funny, but Uma Thurman and Merryl Streep would of been able to deliver something hilarious.

I am a devoted Uma Thurman fan, I think she was brilliant in both Kill Bills and great in My Super Ex Girlfriend, but this movie is, in my opinion, only just worth watching as a comedy. There were some scenes that would give a few laughs but I'm disappointed in the rest of the movie's humour. However the romance side of it is done very well. A classic story with a couple of twists about an older sensible woman looking to settle down meets a young guy who wants a good time. They start to go out not knowing that the guy's mother is the woman's shrink.
