Gandhi
(1982)

The Biggest Myth of India
That Gandhi gave India freedom is as common/major a misconception/myth among the common people as the myth that potatoes make them obese or that the human male was meant to be monogamous by nature.

First, did Ahimsa give India independence? No.

-(An Excerpt from an article by Sanjeev Nayyar, Hindustan Times)- It was none other than Lord Clement Atllee, the British Prime Minister responsible for conceding independence to India, who shattered the myth that Gandhi and his movement gave India freedom. Chief Justice P.B. Chakrabarty of the Calcutta High Court, who had also served as the acting Governor of West Bengal in India , disclosed the following in a letter addressed to the publisher of R.C. Majumdar's book 'A History of Bengal'. The Chief Justice wrote: "My direct question to him was that since Gandhiji's Quit India movement had tapered off quite some time ago and in 1947 no such new compelling situation had arisen that would necessitate a hasty British departure, why did they have to leave? In his reply Atlee cited several reason, the principal among them being the erosion of loyalty to the British Crown among the Indian army and navy personnel as a result of the military activities of Netaji. Toward the end of our discussion I asked Atlee what was the extent of Gandhi's influence upon the British decision to quit India. Hering this question Atlee's lips became twisted in a sarcastic smile as he slowly chewed out the word, "m-i-n-i-m-a-l!" ('Subhash Chandra Bose, the Indian National Army, and the War of India's Liberation-Ranjan Borra', Journal of Historical Review, no. 3, 4, Winter 1982.) Atlee's thoughts were echoed by Fenner Brockway, political secretary of the Independent Labour Party of England, "There were three reasons why India became free. One, the Indian people were determined to gain independence. Two, was the revolt by the Indian Navy. Three, Britain did not want to estrange India, which was a market and source of foodstuffs for her." By the way, what did the concept of Ahimsa as expounded by Gandhi mean? "When a person claims to be non-violent, he is expected not to be angry with one who has injured him. He will not wish him harm. he will not cause him physical hurt.Complete non-violence is complete absence of ill-will against all that lives."(History and Culture of Indian People Vol. 11) Sir Aurobindo said on Ahimsa, "You can live it in spiritual life, but to apply it to all life is absurd." Gandhi did precisely that and more by stretching the ideology of Ahimsa to a ludicrous extent. Few know that even Britain braced itself to face a Nazi invasion in the mid-1940 Gandhi published an "open letter" to "every Briton" urging "cessation of hostilities". Excerpts: "No cause, however just, can warrant the indiscriminate slaughter that is going on minute by minute... I do not want Britain to be defeated, nor do I want her to be victorious, in a trial of brute strength... I want you to fight Nazism without arms."(H. M. Seervai, noted constitutional authority, in 'Introduction' pp.143-144 of his book 'Constitutional Law of India', Supplement to Third Edition, 1988) Speaking on the Defence Budget in the Lok Sabha in 1957 noted Gandhian, Acharya Kriplani said in the Lok Sabha, "The mounting expenses on the Indian Army must be cut down. The followers of Gandhi and adherents of universal peace should not increase military expenditure." What followed was the humiliation of the 1962 in the war against China's invasion of India.

Gandhi had admirable qualities but the problem was that he wanted to be everything to everyone. With Tilak's death in 1920 he assumed leadership of the Hindus. Through the Khilafat movement in 1921 he tried to enlist the Muslims. When Ambedkar championed the cause of the Depressed Classes he sought to become their leader too and coined the term 'Harijan' . For a brand to be successful the consumer must be clear about its attributes, what it stands for. So also for a leader.

...And finally yes, Potatoes do not make us obese and the human male was made for more than one woman ... by nature.

Much Ado About Nothing
(1993)

A very good adaptation of a Shakespeare comedy.
Shakespeare's plays are always a challenge to be adapted as a movie especially with the type English they exhibit. And Comedies are always pose tougher questions than Tragedies. But director Kenneth Brannagh pulled it of very skillfully both as a director as well as an actor. Heavyweight Oscar winner Denzel Washington had nothing much to do in this movie as Don Pedro. Clearly the movie belonged to Kenneth Brannagh as Benedick, Emma Thompson as Beatrice and the surprise package Michael Keaton as the constable. His performance was so expressive and impressive that it's hard to believe this is the same guy who played the role of Batman in 'Batman(1989)'. It's a very cool enjoyable flick and almost as good as any Shakespearian comedy play. Well worth the time engaged in it.

Spider-Man 3
(2007)

The Only Positive : The Special Effects
Full and Final:

Much Hype and Hoopla. Low output.

The Only Positive aspect of this movie : The Visual/Sound Effects.

CANNOT match the aura/tough ground-work of the previous Spiderman Prequels as well as 'Batman Begins(2005)'. The most pleasing aspect to watch in a Spiderman movie is not the extravagant fights but just to watch Spidey swing on his ropes among the urban landscape.

And even that was better in Spiderman:1 & 2. Anyways, its an unwritten rule that a Spiderman can never be better or equal to the Batman as a personality; however good the visual/sound effects may be. As much disappointed watching this movie as I was watching 'The Da Vinci Code'. In both cases the material was worthy of a movie adaptation but the execution was poor. I hope Sam Raimi doesn't mess with Spidey 4 and so does not Ron Howard with the truly great novel ' Angels and Demons '.

Swades: We, the People
(2004)

One of the TWO Sharukh Khan movies all Indians must compulsorily watch ...
I'm a young but a very Critical Indian (Maharashtrian)guy. I'm a self-confessed movie-buff. And after watching almost 460 non-Indian International movies (Yes, I have watched those much Non-Indian movies.Right from Sir Chaplin's 'The Great Dictator' to Benigni's 'Life Is Beautiful' to Spielberg's 'Munich'.I keep a record of every movie I watch) and some important Hindi movies, I give my opinion : 'Swades' is not only Gowarikar's Best but also the Most Optimistic and Practical Indian movie ever made. This movie is undoubtedly spreading Light in the hearts of many Indians and also many non-Indians too.

This movie is present in 'My Top Ten Bollywood Movies of All Time' along with Kamal Haasan's 'Hey Ram(2000)- India's Official Entry to the Oscars for the Year 2000-2001', Farhan Akhtar's 'Dil Chahta Hai(2001)', Bhansali's 'Black(2004), Kukunoor's 'Dor(2006)', Nair's 'Monsoon Wedding(2001)'- (even though it officially Canadian) and still other four movies. I liked Shaharukh's Performance in this movie as much I liked it in 'Hey Ram'.Even though he may not be a Denzel Washington or a Tom Hanks or Robert De Niro still he did do a great Job.

...And Justice for All
(1979)

Pacino is Great
This is the 23rd movie of Pacino that I have watched today and it's amazing he still continues to surprise me with his power performances. He is definitely one of the Best if not THE Best. He is right up there along with the contemporary Heavyweights like Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, and Robert De Niro.

The movie too is an intelligent movie if not a very great one. This movie shows a Lawyer, an advocate in a very positive light and do not project them as the 'Sharks' among the Humans as they usually are.

And this movie comes from a director who has gave us at least 2 memorable movies : 'The Hurricane'(1999) and 'The Fiddler on the Roof'(1971).

The Da Vinci Code
(2006)

Of Angels(Dan Brown,Goldsman,Howard,Hanks) & Demons (You Know Who) ...
1. If personalities like Ron Howard, Akiwa Goldsman and Tom Hanks, all of them talented, together make a movie based on a script from which the whole world has a lot of expectations, and then suddenly from somewhere these 'so-called' critics in some festival, pan the movie, then there's a lot of room to say that the critics are up to some 'conspiracy' themselves.

2. The story may be fictional but it has merely been used as link-up to connect various historic, proved facts of the past.

3. There is nothing been said/done blasphemous against the Great merciful Jesus Christ either in the book or the movie. Both of them contain just some interesting facts which can be pondered over.

4.Some powerful Religious institutions already have their hands full to fight against. They have no time to face Dan Brown. These institutions made a similar ridiculous attack on the master Martin Scorsese's "Last Temptation Of the Christ" few years back.

5.Gods from EVERY religion all over the world are subjected to Exaggeration every now and then all this years and so happened with the Great Jesus. But then it applies and holds true for any Religion in the world.

6. Whether Leonardo Da Vinci (was/was not) a Grandmaster of a Society that (does/does not) exist, he was still a pioneer of Science. He was one of the greatest anatomists, architects, painters, mechanical engineers, geologists, hydrologists of the world. His views in those days may not have been accurately correct but in those days he was looking at the future we see as modern times today. Its logical/ reasonable to put Science that feeds us today ahead of any religion in the world. So its possible that Da Vinci must have been trying to convey something significant and 'hidden'fact to the common people around. 7. The novel "The Da Vinci Code" is a great, in fact an exceptionally great thriller right at par with novels like "The Fourth Estate" by Jeffrey Archer, "The Alchemist" by Paul Coelho,"Nothing Lasts Forever" by Sidney Shieldon and "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown himself.I hope these novels fall in the hands of some talented directors, scriptwriters, actors and producers.(Universal Studios has bought the movie rights to "Angels and Demons."). I hope one of the directors from Howard, Steven Spielberg, Manoj Shyamalan, Jonathan Demme, David Fincher or Ridley Scott works on "Angels & Demons" because all of them are masters and adept at handling darker shades of life in movies. 8. Finally something about the film. A movie is only a two-hour movie and cannot cover what a novel covers mainly due to time limitations. Still Howard, Goldsman did a decent job. Tom Hanks, Audrey,Reno did the best of what was provided to them. The two guys who deserve a standing ovation are Sir Ian McKellen as Sir Leigh Teibing and Paul Tibbany as the masochistic albino killer. If only Goldsman had introduced more details from the novel into the movie related to the events he has put in the script, vital for the story to move forward, it would have been much better. Like Something more about Mona Lisa, Madonna Of The Rocks, etc.

My Ratings For- i)The Novel: 5/5 ii)The Movie: 3.5/5

Now Waiting for "Angels and Demons" ...

Batman Begins
(2005)

'The' best superhero movie of all time.
The 'Dark Knight', the big black bat has returned and returned with a blast. Believe me, when I say,... nothing gets better than this. This movie truly justifies the great spirit of The Batman, whether it his his human nature, his will power, his physical & mental strengths or whether it is his unbelievable abilities to deliver. This movie explains the strengths & weaknesses of Batman like no other previous movie was able to. In fact the previous movie versions were only the comic book versions of the Dark Knight where Batman played only a second fiddle to the campy villains. But 'Batman Begins' takes the legend of Batman to an altogether higher realistic mature level.Of course, the fact that the Batman himself is a lot more realistic and yet extraordinary than all the other so-called 'Magical Superheroes' also helps to the success of the movie. This movie is worth the long wait we had to bear from 1997 to 2005. Christopher Nolan (Insomnia(2002),Memento(2000)) has done the greatest justice to the concept of this legend. Christian Bale's overall appearance and performance in the movie makes him look like he was born for this role. The one aspect astounding enough about 'Begins' is its unbelievable heavyweight star cast. All the Who's Who right from Morgan Freeman ,Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Tom Wilkinson are present right here in the movie delivering great believable performances in a superhero movie. The great Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman, one the most lovable actors of all times has been truthful to his role and so was the veteran Michael Caine. Cillian Murphy as the 'Scarecrow/Dr. Jonathan Crane' was real scary stuff and that is what a Batman movie should contain because Batman is a hero for a real grown man and not only for a child. Even though this is a Batman movie, thankfully this is not a child's or a childish movie like the previous versions which were only degrading Batman. The visual and sound effects, the cinematography are at there stunning best. May be there is a little lack of action considering this is a Batman movie but still the error can be rectified in the next installment. And last but not the least ... Chris Carbould and Andy Smith, the British automobile engineers have really created the strongest believable Machine of all time - The Batmobile. A Hell lot of efforts must have been put to create that Beast. This Batman is dark, ruthless and serious and that is what a Batman should be. I am hoping Nolan makes at least five more well-planned Batman movies in the future because he is a great/well- respected director which has been proved previously by 'Memento' and 'Insomnia' and now by 'Batman Begins'. Now one thing's for sure ... there's no stopping this Big Black Bat. The Batman has only just begun ...

Hey Ram
(2000)

Best and the most Mature of all India's Official Entries to the Academy Awards (even today).
I had already said what I had to about this particular movie long ago in the previous version of my review of mine.

Here I am going to clarify on a few aspects about this movie which some of the so called critics have put forward :

1. Critic No.1 argues: What has Kamal Haasan shown so different in this movie ? This critic says, Kamal has shown Muslims at first, offending Hindus of all castes and types including the Sikhs, the South Indians, the Maharastrians and others AND this particular Hindu gets into the 5th gear, does an act of revenge and then blames this poor guy Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. According to the critic,Kamal instead could have shown the other way round.

My reply, as a representative of those millions of fans of 'Hey Ram(2000)':

I would recommend this Critic No.1 to watch movies like "The Legend Of Bhagat Singh(2002)", "Veer Savarkar(2001)", "1947: Earth(1997)". In the "The Legend..." the great Bhagat Singh has a foresight that this Congress is gonna do nothing. The only aim of Congress is to acquire power and then the sentiments of Indian public go to Hell. Now this Congress which believes in so called Equality of Religions in India always looked upon Muslims as nothing but a Vote Bank. M. K. Gandhi was no doubt genuinely interested in the welfare of people but politically protected the Muslims and deliberately overlooked the behaviour of his so called Muslim Brethren. Due to this political immunity the probability that in the freedom riots, the ratio of Muslims offenders to other non-Muslim offenders was 8 : 2 will be the most possible probability and nothing less than that. In "Veer Savarkar(2001)" the great revolutionary Savarkar explains how this Khilafat movement is nothing but a joke, a farce.

In fact, the Britishers knew that revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Veer Savarkar were the REAL danger compared to the moderate M.K. Gandhi. That was the reason why British tortured them like they were in hell ,like they were some pigs in a slaughterhouse. Meanwhile the sweet spotlight was on Mr. M. K. Gandhi and his fasts.

Deepa Mehta's masterpiece "1947:Earth" reveals the attitude of the minority. But the other Star of the movie was of course the ever-talented Aamir Khan revealing his pure acting brilliance.

Mr. Critic No.1 should pick any newspaper from any stall from any locality from any Country and he should find major news on the lines of rivalry between America-Iraq, India-Pakistan or Israel-Palastine, the Babri Masjid issue and other such news. You will notice that one of the rival pairs is always a Islamic MILITANT group.

This problems have been existing since Mr. Mohammad Gajni, then Aurangzeb and Osama Bin Laden and Dawood Ibrahim today.

2. Now this particular Critic No. 2 argues : This movie contains unnecessary sex.

My reply,as a representative of those millions of fans of 'Hey Ram(2000)':

Sex depicted in this movie is at least a lot better and REALISTIC than the UNrealistic rain-dancing of those idiot actors(???) and saree-clad actresses(???) in those nonsense '3 out of 5' star rated movies. Also let's not forget the running around trees in fully forced rain. Did somebody say Influenza ?

This movie is only made for adults no doubt, but it is meant for ONLY MATURE THOUGHTFUL REASONABLE ADULTS.

Sex is a nature's creation necessary for propagation of life and a KISS in particular is a universal symbol for expressing Love among living creatures including all animals but definitely NOT flowers as some Indian directors show in their nonsense '3 out of 5' star rated movies something UNNATURAL like flowers kissing each other instead of the hero and the heroine. All these efforts are to please our 70 years old censorship 'virtuous' members. The fact is : We don't need 'virtuous' censorship members but mature, scientific, understanding, reasonable thinkers. BUT one thing I admit : This movie is NOT meant for family viewing where teenagers or children of lesser age are present. Even some adults can be considered as children if they don't possess a proper scientific view while watching movies like this. If sex and violent scenes are removed from this movie it will become a truly visual effects family movie with a message at the end, middle and the beginning.

In fact, I found a lot positive aspects in 'Hey Ram(2000)' :

1. The technique used to show blood oozing out of Rani's throat was brutal but was a technical achievement in an Indian movie. The ONLY other time I observed the feat being used was in the legendary Steven Spielberg's Classic Masterpiece 'Saving Private Ryan(1998)' starring the great Tom Hanks.

2. Visual Effects during the marital bliss(Saket Ram/Maithili) and during the TWISTER scene were visual pleasure to watch.

3. At the climax, Kamal shows a child representing all the riot affected children and their problems. It's a pity rioting demons don't spare even innocent children.

4.The so called Astrological expert is blown to smithereens by Saket Ram. If every Indian follows his ideal, those 'Ponga Pandits' will never cheat us of our money.

5.Even milk goes for a kick and a toss when Saket Ram explains how it was meant only for children and not adults. Then follows a truly hilarious joke by Maithili.

6. One more myth like millions of others which was prevalent in India was buried that M.k. Gandhi uttered the words 'Hey Ram' moments before death. If a bullet traveling at a speed of 800 miles/hour is shot at you at a POINT BLANK range, your eyes will simply pop out. And here, M.K. Gandhi was a 79 year old man and he was shot by not one but TWO in the chest. If your lungs are that open forget about uttering any words at all.

7. The only fault Kamal did was a technical one. He shouldn't have shown Gandhi flying backwards when hit by the bullets. FORENSIC STUDIES have positively proved that if a live body is hit by a bullet, the body will simply slump down to the ground.

Some Other Things : Vasundhara Das, Atul Kulkarni and Shahrukh have performed in an OUTSTANDING way in a life-time role. Shahrukh doesn't over act and this proves Kamal's Effective Direction.

And now for those who say that this movie is disturbing or controversial :

All great masterpieces right from 'The Godfather(1972)' to 'Schindler's List(1993)' and to the recent 'The Sixth Sense(1999)' and 'Artificial Intelligence(2001)' all had been controversial but TRUTHFUL EYE OPENERS.

In fact, according to me, an individual should watch only TWO types of movies :

1.TRUTHFUL EYE OPENERS : These types expose real facts but violence and sex are not necessities to be depicted. Examples:Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram(2000), Denzel Washington's Cry Freedom(1987), Al Pacino's Godfather(1972/74)series or The Insider(1999), Robert De Niro's The King of Comedy(1983),Morgan Freeman's SE7EN(1995),The Usual Suspects(1995) etc.

2. PURELY FICTIONAL DREAMLAND FEEL-GOOD MOVIES : These type of movies relieve us of our daily stresses and tensions when watched for fun keeping our brains aside for a while. Example : Steven Spielberg's E.T. : The Extra Terrestrial(1982) or Hook(1991),Beauty and the Beast(1991),The Lion King(1994),Casper(1995), The Batman Movies etc.

As for the remaining run-of-the-mill type of movies which do NOT belong to any of the above TWO types,I call them DUMB movies made for the similar types of individuals.

Eg. The extremely torturous The Mummy(1999),MouseHunt,I Know What You Did Last Summer... etc

These movies are, as Saket Ram says, as SEMI-FICTIONAL as M.K.Gandhi's autobiography.

... and I don't prefer semi fiction.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
(2003)

Arnie has done his Best with Action & Comedy, but...
This movie was definitely the most anticipated movie of the Decade. I like millions of others, definitely watched this movie, whether a Schwarzenegger Fan or not.

FROM A SCHWARZENEGGER FAN'S POINT OF VIEW I GIVE THIS MOVIE A "FOUR out of FIVE" BUT AS A CRITIC'S ROLE, I GIVE THIS MOVIE A "THREE out of FIVE".

And I say:

NOBODY,infact NOBODY who is in his/her right sense of mind and who thinks Sensibly, will ever Deny that ARNIE HAS DEFINITELY PERFORMED HIS BEST ON HIS BEHALF and the 56 year old Golden Globe winner was by any means, NOT responsible for the movie being an average "3 out of 5" movie and not a classic masterpiece as we had expected.

If anybody is responsible for it then it definitely has to be the Plot of the movie or rather the Absence of It.AND THE OTHER CULPRIT IS POOR DIRECTION provided by Mr.Jonathan Mostow.

This movie is a classic example which exposes the GAP OF TALENT between Master Directors like James Cameron,Steven Spielberg, Manoj Shayamalan,Edward Zwick and other Mere Ordinary Mortals like Mr.Mostow here.

Mr.Mostow once in his interview SAID : "I am a fan of Arnie and also the Two Classic Prequels made in 1984 and 1991 respectively and I would only create in the 3rd installment what other fans would LIKE to expect or see."

Well, Mr.Mostow, as Arnie's one famous one-liner goes : "YOU LIED."

Mr.Mostow merely LIFTED EXACTLY everything from "T-2(1991)" and put it in T-3.Unfortunately It DID work.

I definitely did NOT expect this movie to be a great Denzel Washington Classic or a Tom Hanks Masterpiece or a Shyamalan's "The Sixth Sense(1999)" or a Spielberg's "Schindler's List(1993)" BUT I definitely expected it to carry forward from where it's Classic Prequel had left(the plot). But It was not to be.

This movie may have been a major hit but I think everybody should care for Quality over Quantity.Mr.Mostow has missed the chance the TITANIC director had given him. Had this movie been any better, the director would definitely have been showered with accolades, flowers. But not here.

This movie merely survives on Arnie's Charisma/Performance and State-of-the-art Visual/Sound Effects and NOTHING more.

For me, THE MOST SENSIBLE AND REALISTIC SCIENCE FICTIONAL MOVIE EVER MADE WAS AND IS "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE(2001)" BY STEVEN SPIELBERG. NO OTHER SCI-FI MOVIE DESERVES A BETTER RATING THAN "A.I.".AND THAT'S FOR SURE.

Mr.Mostow, the great Schwarzenegger and the great James Cameron will SURELY give a Blockbluster Hit in the near future. They are FOREVER but... What About You ?

(All those Fans(?) or Critics(?) who are responsible for this funny movie being rated as high as EIGHT, DO NOT deserve to vote merely because they use only Emotional Intelligence. Everybody HAS to utilise Reasoning Power too.)

(I request the Respected IMDB Officials for the first time in the period of my long attachment with IMDB, to put my review on the T-3's Main Page if possible...Obviously after deleting this Request Part of the Review ofcourse.)

Thank You.

Amistad
(1997)

Christian Vieri and Oscars...
LIFE'S NOT FAIR!!!

Amistad(1997) and Denzel Washington not being nominated at the Oscars for the Best Picture (1997) and Best Actor (1995) respectively, is just like watching Italy being thrown out by Cheating AGAINST it at the Soccer World Cup 2002 just because WC president Joseph Blatter is a corrupt man who want to see more ticket sales in the host country South Korea. And Italy was just facing South Korea in the pre-quarter finals. Not even Spain was spared in the quarter finals in order to show off the "talents(?)" of South Korea. Thank God,At the end, Sanity prevailed SOMEWHERE and we got to watch a Germany Vs Brazil final and not a S.Korea Vs Brazil one.

Unfortunately, just like Italy,Amistad and Denzel Washington too couldn't make it to the Final Five.

Something to ponder over by everybody.

The Matrix Reloaded
(2003)

Modern Mahabharata
Undoubtedly, this was one the most awaited sequel ever.

A lot had been expected from the sequel. I watched it here in Mumbai the first day it was released here and yes... it WAS a one of those rare mind-blowing effects I had ever experienced whenever I watch this type of movies. This movie definitely lives to the expectations created by the Legendary Prequel in 1999.

Not Only this has a lot of Action and Animation but it also has an intelligent Concept. It carries off exactly from where it had left in the "The Matrix".

The more we talk of these Matrix movies, the less it is. But the parts of this movie I was attracted to, were...

1)The Cause and Effect Philosophy: This is,If I am not wrong, really the same as proved by the legendary scientist and discoverer Isaac Newton. (But fortunately, Isaac may have never known anything about such a thing called 'Lipstick' or the locations on the body where its imprints could be found.)

2)The Explanation by The Architect: The explanation as per offered by the Architect reminded me of the teachings of The (Actual) One, Lord Krishna to his disciple, the Legendary Warrior Arjuna when he is face to face with his enemies in the Final War ...and his enemies are nothing but his own relatives. And Arjuna is caught in a deleimma. Then the Lord offers him Two Options :

A)To succumb to his Emotions ,not to offer a fight and get Destroyed and in turn as a result, be the cause for the destruction of Humanity.

OR

B) To control his emotions and fight to Win,resulting in the protection of Humanity and Truth. This also will result in Arjuna becoming a more powerful one and help him create a more efficient Kingdom.

Arjuna wisely chooses the Second Option.

Similarly,The Architect offers Neo Two Options:

A)To succumb to his Emotions and go back to Trinity, resulting in the Avalanche-Type Catastrophe which will Destroy Zion and Humanity in General.

OR

B) To dodge his Emotions,Get dissolved himself and also the Matrix temporarily and result in a new and an Efficient Matrix which would be created by the Architect.

Unfortunately, Neo chooses the First Option.

Anyway, Now let's get out of Philosophy. I would rate this movie the same as I rated its Prequel, that is 9 OUT OF 10 or ...4 OUT OF 5; whichever way it goes.

As far as the Action and the Special (Both Visual & Sound)Effects are concerned, they are simply as they should have been,Terrific.

But WAIT,WAIT,WAIT... According to me, this not The Best-REALISTIC-Scientific Movie Ever made. The credit Deservedly goes to the Steven Speilberg's "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE(2001)". AI is simply a Down-to-Earth and MATURE movie.

Unfortunately,in this world ,a majority of people crave for Quantity and not Quality. But even then, it does NOT take anything away from the Matrix Series.

Now I am waiting (as everybody),for the concluding part which completes the Trilogy and also for the Larger-Than-Life "Terminator 3:Rise of the Machines(2003)".

Die Another Day
(2002)

SPOILERS FOR SURE !!!
This is it.This is the limit. This is enough. WHEN THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO RUN OUT OF 'INANE'/'NONSENSE' IDEAS LIKE THIS 'SECRET'(???)AGENT CALLED JAMES BOND.

To start with first of all he's known to the whole hell of a world with pictures in every newspaper and on every wall. His enemies must be knowing him well by now. But ...

Let me tell you a story...Long long time ago, in 1994, came a secret agent movie and took the world for a whirlwind ride.It broke all Box-Office and DVD/CD records. In that particular movie, the secret agent really WAS a secret agent for seventeen long years, his real profession unknown to his family(wife/daughter).And he dealt with realistic missions like the terrorists of the Middle-East(Remember 9/11 attacks??) And he surely didn't fight against Russia.(Most of the Hollywood movies are "US GOOD - RUSSIA BAD" movies. For God's Sake, the formula has lost its charm.).

Then came 1995,1997,1999 and with them came Three Bond movies(GoldenEye,Tommorrow never Dies,The World is not Enough). But NOT a single movie could catch up with that particular 1994-movie.This THREE chances proved that James Bond is NOT the real Secret Agent but somebody else. Quantity DOES NOT make for QUALITY.

Basically, Bond movies are made to make a fool out of the masses who spend their money to watch the Bond. Friendly Advice : Keep your common at home when going to the theatre to watch the Bond.

Anyway the 1994-movie I was talking about is "True lies" and the actor/action hero is none other than the Larger-than-life ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER. And who else could it be? Advantage : UNLIKE Pierce Brosnan, Arnold has proved his box office status in NON-Secret Agent movies too(Remember : T-2 ???).

My Last Remark : Watch all the Bond Movies starring Pierce Brosnan(Is the spelling correct?...Sorry If not.) and then watch "TRUE LIES". My Question : "Who do you think has more on-screen presence, charisma and humour? : ARNIE or Pierce Brosnan ?" Think twice before you vote. I vote for ARNIE. Do you ?

Anyway, I hope James(Cameron NOT Bond) and Arnold release their "TRUE LIES-2" pretty soon. Don't forget to watch "Terminator-3 : Rise of the Machines(2003)" next year.

Till then, enjoy your limited time,Bond ... and make a fool of all those morons watching you in the theatres.

Rank: 25 Toughest Stars
(2002)

Something's TERRIBLY WRONG !!!!!
Russell Crowe ???????????????????????????? I thought it should have been none other than the The Great ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER OR atleast JACKIE CHAN. Russell Crowe doesn't even list in my Top Actors' List.My personal Rank One Actor: DENZEL WASHINGTON. Reason:He has more mature and Sensible movies than any other actor.Russel Crowe has just four:Gladiator,A Beautiful Mind,L.A.Confidential,The Insider. Go and watch Denzel Washington's List of MATURE movies. It's Endless. By the way I think the Academy Award for the Best Actor for the year 2000 should have gone to TOM HANKS(Cast Away). He truly deserved IT. And as far as this List is concerned,Please Revise It.It's Unbearable.

Hercules in New York
(1970)

Hillarious !
I never ever thought I would get to watch movie here in India because this movie is really one of the earliest movies of ARNIE. Anyway, if you get to watch this movie please keep your brains aside and watch. This is CRAZY and really really makes you laugh. (Especially, watch the fight between Hercules and the Bear. Boy, that's crazy comic stuff.)

Training Day
(2001)

Finally, Justice has been done ...
Finally, atlast... Justice has been done. Denzel has won the much coveted OSCAR for himself for the LEADING ROLE after winning it for Best Supporting Role in Glory(1989).

But I have One COMPLAINT : Didn't the Oscar juries notice Denzel Washington for his roles in movies such as Cry Freedom(1987), Malcolm X(1992), Philadelphia(1993), Crimson Tide(1995) and ofcourse ...The Hurricane(1999)? That's where my complaint lies: DENZEL WASHINGTON SHOULD HAVE WON THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR LEADING ROLE LONG TIME AGO.

Even though he was not nominated for his roles in Philadelphia(1993) and Crimson Tide(1995), his roles in those movies were significant ones. Both the movies were GEM of movies. Actually, my PERSONAL opinion is that BOTH Philadelphia and Crimson Tide should have been nominated in the categories of Best Picture,Best Director(Jonathan Demme/Tony Scott respectively),Best Actor(though Tom Hanks won for Philadelphia),Best Supporting Actor(Washington/Gene Hackman respectively. Gene Hackman has done a great job.)

Denzel Washington had actually proved from the very beginning that he was here to ACT and not only to ACT, but ACT in very MEANINGFUL roles. And it was clear from the very start of his career when the movie Soldier's Story,A(1984) was nominated for the Best Picture in which he had acted and was only his second movie AND he himself was nominated for the Best Actor for his role in Cry Freedom(1987) which was only his fourth movie for the big screen. Actually by winning it, Denzel has proved that Substance rules over hype-hoopla and favour. This was the reward he was toiling for, for the last fifteen years.Actually, Denzel Washington is an ideal example of a GREAT FIGHTER/STRUGGLER.

The IRONY is that after playing the GOOD GUY for all these years, he has won it for the BAD GUY role. Anyway, a role is either an excellent role or a poor role and not any other thing. Anyway now that he has won the Award, my only wish is that he doesn't rest and works only MORE HARDER in more MEANINGFUL roles. His roles are what attract me towards his performances.

Anyway,Best of Luck ,DENZEL for your future ...

Schindler's List
(1993)

'THE' Best Masterpiece of all Time.
Its an irony that though I am an avid watcher of good and excellent movies, I only happened to watch this MASTERPIECE in 2002 even though it was produced in 1993.And I am repenting for the nine years I wasted in between, before I watched this MASTERPIECE in an Oscar festival in a local theatre here in Mumbai.

This movie is one of my most favourite masterpieces(mind you,I am saying 'masterpieces' and not 'movies' because I have painfully selected my 'favourite' masterpieces from all the movies I HAVE watched, and then AGAIN filtered and selected my 'personal 40 most favourite MASTERPIECES of all time' from those favourites).

' SCHINDLER'S LIST ' is my choice along with Life Is Beautiful(1997); The Sixth Sense(1999); The Godfather 2(1974); Braveheart(1995); Se7en(1995); Crimson Tide(1995); Unbreakable(2000); Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(2000); The Great Dictator(1940); Terminator 2:Judgement Day(1991); Dog Day Afternoon(1975); Kramer Vs.Kramer(1979); Saving Private Ryan(1998); Artificial Intelligence(2001); Raging Bull(1980); Philadelphia(1993) and many more ...!

Usually, I don't approve myself of providing ranks to my 'personal 40 Favourite Masterpieces of All Time' but this one is an EXCEPTION and I rank this movie as 'The Number One'.

My humble suggestion : 1. To all those who had the luck of watching this masterpiece before - DON'T WAIT. GO and BUY a CD or a DVD whatever you get your hands on and enjoy this movie for your lifetime. 2. To those who haven't yet watched IT - DON'T WAIT, GO and RENT IT / watch IT in a theatre on the very first chance you get. And now PLEASE don't complaint of not having enough money to buy or even rent it. SELL YOUR CHILDREN IF YOU NEED TO GET MONEY BUT DON'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT NINE YEARS TO WATCH THIS MASTERPIECE. Needless to say, I rate this masterpiece a 10 out of 10.

Psycho
(1960)

One of the best films of 60s
Even though there has been a lot of hype been created about this movie I was not able to watch this movie till Feb 2002.I think this movie is GREAT considering this was made in 1960 when there were not so much technical innovations as today.Alfred Hitchcock has done a great job but I think 'DRESSED TO KILL(1980)' was better (compare the Bathroom scenes). This movie is 8/10 movie and certainly not 11.5/10 because it would be insult to 'SCHINDLER'S LIST'

A Beautiful Mind
(2001)

Truly deserved the Oscars for the Best Picture but ...
This movie is really great and it is TOO great to be true.I don't have any idea how much of it was real and how much was added by imagination(ofcourse with the permission of the real character: John Nash ) by Akiva Goldsman, but it truly deserved the Academy Awards for the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress.I think that Crowe's performance too was GREAT.But I think that the Oscar for the Best Actor in a Leading Role deservedly went to Denzel Washington who has done a terrific job in Training Day.That Denzel Washington should have won it long back is an altogether different issue. For anyone who thinks that the Oscar juries' decision for the Best Actor is biased, I think that opinion is ridiculous. The Juries take their decisions strictly by MERIT and nothing else.Russell Crowe's performance was great but that of Denzel Washington's was greater.

Ironically, NOBODY took any objection when : 1. Raging Bull lost to Ordinary People in the (1980-81) Academy Awards. 2. Very less people raised their eyebrows when Shakespeare In Love was preferred to Saving Private Ryan for the year (1998-99). 3.Also what about the decision when Kevin Spacey won inspite of Denzel Washington's mighty performance in the title role of 'The Hurricane(1999)' ??? Acording to me the above three decisions were questionable(and there are still some more too but that's enough for now.) So I think that any objection to Denzel's win is merely either due to jealousy or due to lack of acknowledgement to superior talent.

Anyway, this movie is something we can call a MASTERPIECE and I give it a 8/10 rating.

Training Day

Wuthering Heights
(1992)

One of my favourite classics
I don't have much to say about this movie except that this one is simply the GREAT!! I have a special attachment for this movie because it is based upon one of my most favourite classic stories. The most favourite aspect this movie is the excellent acting by Ralph Fiennes who portrayed the character of Heathcliff exactly as it was in my mind. And one more thing ... the background score is really touching and too good.

Mission: Impossible II
(2000)

One of the best action movies but one of the worst ...
However successful this movie may have been at the box office, in my opinion this movie was one of the WORST movies of all time as far as acting, screenplay and direction is concerned.Cinematography was excellent and action was too GOOD.But honestly speaking, I found this movie too boring to watch.Mission:Impossible-1 was better than this even though it was a little complex one. And I really expect some movie from John Woo in the league and standards of FACE/OFF which was a 9/10 movie for me.May be, I may have failed to understand the inspiration behind this movie but then this is my personal opinion that, " Not only action movies should contain outstanding action but also some excellent script and good acting and direction ". Its here where M:I-2 fails because it FAILS to stir/challenge both the emotions and intelligence of a good movie-watcher who is always in the search of excellent quality and superior taste.

And finally my last wish:I would like to watch Woo and Arnold Schwarzenegger work together on a good script like FACE/OFF someday.

True Lies
(1994)

Better than all the other Super Spy Movies...
It's proved undoubtedly . Nobody can beat the 'never-say-die' combination of James Cameron and of course non other than the former Mr.Universe , Conan the barbarian ,commando ,the running man: Arnold Schwarzenegger the greatest action hero of all(if not the greatest actor, but he is pretty good at humor.)The last two times they came together, their aim was to first to assassinate and then to protect a poor kid from Nowhere called John Connor in The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2:Judgement Day(1991). This time, I should say, the aim is better: To find out and eliminate the network of Arabic/Islamic terrorists.

This movie, I should say, is the best combination of comedy and action (LARGER THAN LIFE!!!) ever.In this movie ,this poor guy called Harry Tasker (or Reinquist? No Idea.)(looks terrific and charming in those tuxedos.) who like others, has some woes of himself in his life, namely:(1) His secretive job which no one can be told about (not even to family members.)(2) His down-trodden wife Helen (we are talking of Harry's woes, right?) (3) His mission: The Arabic/Islamic terrorists (as per told above)(4)His daughter going the wrong way.(5)His a-little-cowardly junior Gibson(5)And last but not the least a guy who thinks himself to be a machoman especially when it comes to women and this time in his traps is none other than the down-trodden wife of Harry, who wants for herself some adventure in her boring office life. So what happens at the End?(Watch this movie and find out yourselves.)

HEY!!!But...wait!What is our Poor Guy Harry doing in the public Toilet room? In an elevator with a horse(a real big one!) and also with an elderly couple? At the top of a building terrace with the not-so-intelligent horse?And...Hey...Why is he hanging under a helicopter that too over a blown up goddamned-bridge?( Wasn't that thing called 'SEAT'-in-a-helicopter invented than in 1994?)

And also what's this another unlucky guy called Salim Abu Aziz doing in the same public toilet room mentioned above? What's he doing in swimming pool that too along with a Motorbike for company? and what is this now...He's now hanging at the Goddamned end of a Espresso-machine,sorry...a water heater,sorry(again)...a MISSILE?!!!

And if this troubles are not enough look... what's this Harry's(down-trodden/adventurous)wife doing in the machoman's car and not only that she's resting her head on(or is it IN-BETWEEN ? that would be much better.)his laps(or thighs)? Also why is she HANGING under the same helicopter over the Goddamned blownup bridge(must be that 'SEAT' problem again)? Also now what's she doing with this particular mysterious guy who looks like he loves to live in the dark? What is that bird ...it's a PELICAN but what's it doing on top of the well-balanced truck ?

To find out answers to the above Intelligent questions please watch this movie.

This movie in my opinion, is definitely BETTER than all those much-hyped spy movies which start at NOTHING, end at NOTHING and you learn NOTHING from them except for some exotic locations to talk about. But not 'TRUE LIES'.(Watch it and you will know why.)

And now to talk of ACTION.It's GREAT!!!(But then it's a James Cameron's trademark:HUGE larger-than-life explosions and a high budget which is ALWAYS more than he has ever spent on his previous projects.)Terminator,The(1984) cost a fortune but Aliens(1986) cost more than it.Similar is the way with Abyss,The(1989) which was costlier than both and Terminator 2:Judgement Day(1991) [The All Time Classic] overtook all,in the expenditures section. And you definitely must be remembering Titanic which cost more than $200 million PLUS. So that's James Cameron for you. Also Arnie's(and who else?) at his BEST when he works with Cameron.

My Favourite scenes: (1)When Salim Abu Aziz fires a mini-missile at the fuel-tank near which Harry is standing, Harry notices the danger in advance and takes off and flies in air diving in to the nearby sea water just in time to get away unscratched from the huge explosion. As a result of that the sea water surface gets covered with the spilled fuel burning on top of it(Fire in Water!!!)and Harry underneath it with withheld breathing and no free air to take in the goddamned lungs.(The Scene in which Arnie is Swimming below the Fire is the Best scene of all).(2)Harry's harrier plane misses the unguided missile fired by the terrorists just in time.(3)Harry's Gattling guns in an attempt to follow the terrorists helicopter fire in the sea water creating a design in it.(Watch out for the Corner of the building next to the sea which gets fired in turn.)(4)The four Missiles (no idea whether they were Infra-red(heat-seeking)/LASER followers.)which strike at the bridge especially the last one being more productive(or destructive?)whcih hits the bridge just below the Arabic Terrorists truck.(5)Harry's Gattling guns hitting the Glass Wall of the terrorists floor(The scene is GREAT and terrific and looks beautiful.Just like THE MATRIX scene.)

And now to some serious business.Doesn't this movie remind you of something?(Remember the 9/11 attacks? the Afghanistan Problem? the Iraq problem? the Kashmir problem? the Palestinian problem? and there are more examples ... but enough for now.)and the award for it all goes to...(who else but those F**KING B**T**DS again.)

This movie is NOT one of my personal 30 Favourite Movies of All Time(including Life is Beautiful, Unbreakable, The Matrix, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Dog Day Afternoon, The Sixth Sense and ...many more.)but is definitely one of my top 20 action movies of all time. You better watch out for TRUE LIES 2.

Unbreakable
(2000)

"Unbreakable" is one step ahead of "The Sixth Sense".
Manoj 'Night' Shyamalan here has proved here once again that not only his movies deserve to be in the Top Box office Record Breakers but also in the Top 10 of the Critics' list as well. Thw last time Manoj unleashed "The Sixth Sense", he unleashed Storm and this time he has prove that "sixth sense" is is possessed only by the "Unbreakable"s.When I heard the title "Unbreakable" for the first time I knew it would be the next blockbluster in the making with a 'sixth sense' of itself and not just run-of-the-mill type of movies and for once I was proved right. This movie is nothing but a genuine Masterpiece. No other movie could be as SIMPLE and yet as INTRIGUING or as COMMON SENSIBLE or more LOGICAL than this one.The moment you finish Watching this movie or even reach haif the length of the movie, you start thinking,"Why the Hell didn't I realize this concept before which so close to my life?" The script is what you can say simply Brilliant and Intelligent and force you to think in an altogether new dimension about a field which no one ever thought of before.Now... have you ever thought for a moment why some individual in your life is lucky enough to taste success in every field he/she ventures and that too without much efforts while you are stil struggling in only field without much success even though you have worked hard and possess the determination to more? Why were you left so far behind? Does that particular individual possess some kind of superpower which protects him from harm and failure? So now what happens next is that the person becomes the CEO of the same firm you are working for and has an oh-so-sexy girlfriend of his while you still the GM of the firm with no ...that's enough.(Even though you both started at the same level, with the same pay with the same hardwork.) What went wrong and WHERE? You feel as if a negative energy just like a black hole is sucking you inside itself.(Remember the movie we are talking about is NOT a supernatural movie.)If you now start to observe your life and his ,you will atart to visualise a superhero like a Batman/Superman in him and in yourself you will find ... that's enough. Similar kinds of questions haunt our very own Batman(Bruce Willis)and the Two-Face(Samuel L. Jackson)in this larger-AS-life movie. Meanwhile, the CEO too thinks the reason for not firing him of his CEO's post even though he made a particular major mistake in selling the shares of his firm to a wrong firm. Why the hell did they choose him "The Business Man of the year" inspite of the fact that the other person deserved it because of his better Business tactics? The movie starts with a blast(a real as well as mental)where Bruce's character escapes literally unscratched out of a major train accident carrying 142 passengers(I tnink it was 142 though I may not be correct)out which 140 die on the spot and 1 dies in the hospital. The only one survivor is Bruce uninjured. Meanwhile, here Samuel's character is suffering from oesteogenesis imperfecta (a bone disorder)which makes brittle enough to break even if a passerby pushes him to pass by ion the footpath. Ther are more secrets and more accidents in both of their lives which revealsomething extraordinary as the movie reveals itself. But there's something more to it than what'svisible to our naked eyes.A DARK SECRET...(To know the secret watch the movie.) Anyway the direction of the movie is outstanding so is the acting from these two renowned actors for an outstanding script. But what Iloved the most is the unexpected climax (No I won't reveal it and spoil the fun for you. Instead wstch the start of the movie, the end and the middle too.)(I don't understand why some people think this movie to be a comic-strip or a comic-book based movie.Instead I would request them to watch this movie carefully again so as to understand its concept.) This movie is one of myTop25 FAvourite Movies of All Time alongside Crimson Tide,Life is Beautiful,The Sixth Sense, Terminator 2:Judgement Day,Taxi Driver,Raging Bull,Dog Day Afternoon and many more. I hope Shyamalan's next project "Signs" based on Philadelphia crop circles mystery(if what i have read about is correct.) is as excellent as this one.My Personal Conclusion:'Unbreakable'is one step ahead of 'The sixth Sense'.

Crimson Tide
(1995)

Denzel Washington deserved atleast a nomination for the Oscars.
This movie is about a Captain and his junior, a Lt.Commander in an American Submarine. They have only a faint idea that a missile site has been captured by the rebel Russians but have no idea when they are or whether they are going to attack the Americans at all. The conflict starts when the Captain decides to attack the enemy before they get attacked themselves. Its because of the Nature of the Captn. and Lt.Commander that are altogether different from each other and their opinions clash and they clash at the wrong time, wrong hour and the wrong second. The irony is that both are correct in their own way.Captn. is at a higher level of command and hence is a little egoistic person who believes that peace arrives in a region only after a war has occured in that region while Comdr.believes in minimizing risk or creating a situation of no risk at all.Capt.tries to stretch the limits of the powers alloted to him in order to achieve his goal and in turn satisfy his own ego while Comdr. believes in using the powers alloted to him within their limits to create a safe situation.Captn. wants to take situation in control where as Comdr. wants to assess and study the situation before taking any decision.Captn.believes in domination, Comdr. believes in self-control. Captn wants to strike war in order to eliminate the enemy while Comdr. wants to eliminate the war ITSELF which is the greatest threat to humanity. But what happens at the climax? Watch this Masterpiece to learn something valuable in life. The script is fast, energetic and flawless.Tony Scott(Top Gun(1986)) has done a great job here, to direct such a great fast flowing Masterpiece. But the real credit goes to the Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman as the Lt.Commander and the Captain respectively. The commanding presence of Denzel Washington makes you feel as if you are living the movie instead of watching it.Washington takes care not to over-act in role, for that matter, any of the roles he has performed previous to or after Crimson Tide.Yet he is outstanding in his efforts...(Are the award-donating racists reading?).Gene too gives an excellent performance complimenting each time with Denzel's character to give well-balanced act.In the movie every time they clash on the screen you feel a sort of energy flowing between them. Also Scott here has given importance in building up an atmosphere(here a tense one). This was very clear from the scene when the opinions of Lt.Commander and the Captn. clash at the dining(or lunch?Whatever that was.)table.This creates a feeling that something electrifing is going to happen between the two characters. the only question is WHEN.This movie is where one learns the importance of decision making and to make it quick. This movie is all about intelligence, quickness of mind, self-control and obedience. This movie is where one learns how to deal with the external enemies in real life(difficult situations in life)and also against our own men(personal negativities in behaviour, nature etc).Miss this movie and you miss something Valuable. One of my top 25 movies of all time alongside Life Is Beautiful,Unbreakable,Raging Bull,Cast Away,The Matrix,The Sixth Sense and many more. (One Doubt:Why should the Russians be always targeted?) And then as they say its always BETTER to...(1)Check the EAM(Emergency Action Message). (11)Declare it to be a False Alarm (if necessary). (111)Then take a Risky Decision. THAN to...(i)Ignore the EAM. (ii)Take a Risky decision and (iii)Then think that the EAM may have been authentic and a correct solution after all(But its too late now...)
