Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Those Old Scientists
(2023)
Episode 7, Season 2

Not a fan of Lower Decks, but enjoyed this one.
I might not watch "Lower Decks" as I was not impressed due to annoying caracters and fast paced improbable situations, however, this crossover was a lot of fun.

Seeing 2 of them in real life was quite funny and original, mingling with the past Enterprise and cross-reference facts from the other series (TOS and Enterprise), as well as SNW.

Anyway, how can you tell if the Orions were bad or good was the debate here. You have to make some accomodations to let a tribe change their hearts...

Good episode and some laughs here and there.

However, respect to those who like Lower Decks. If they love the series, be it !

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
(2022)

Whatever you think, it's ok and has funny moments !
Did watch and binge the series in whole. Don't understand why it is hated. Let the bad sides of the series go here, it is a rollercoaster ride with some action and laughs.

How Jennifer became a Hulk is interesting, seeing Mark Ruffalo again is a breeze.

Rivalry between Titania and She-Hulk was the fun part. Also breaking the 4th wall and a surprise at the end of the last episode was pleasable. So was the presence of some Marvel heroes such as Wong and Daredevil... and not forget the Abomination !

To watch for the fun of it. Those who did not like it perhaps did forget to take it lightly.

Go Hulk... ahem SHE-HULK !

The Kinky Coaches and the Pom Pom Pussycats
(1981)

Even a French-Quebec dubbing cannot save this movie...
Saw parts of this movie (not the whole, thank God !) in french, dubbed in Quebec (was rare in the end 1970-beginning 1980s, where most of Canadian movies were Parisian-dubbed) and was quite deceived at the low amount of comedy. Just plain flat jokes, unintentionnal attempts to make it interesting. Just plain garbage and boring. Meh !

You better waste 90 minutes elsewhere...

Danger Island
(1968)

Campy... and full of Chongo !
Though this story has interesting and humorous twists of turns. The real star in this series is the native Chongo, who saves this group of archeologists, pursued by modern-day pirates in the South Pacific.

Richard Donner started to display his brand of storytelling, way before Superman or Lethal Weapon.

Jan-Michael Vincent did display some talent before his "White Line Fever" days...

Fun to watch this campy series !

Family Affair: Wish You Were Here
(1970)
Episode 13, Season 5

Though a good episode, they kinda forgot an episode 3 years ago...
Though it is another trip to Terre Haute, the writers forgot that the family went to Terre Haute in episode 2.16 (Family Reunion), where Aunt Fran (she is absent here) asked again the children if they want to stay with her.

This time, even if they have been there before, Jody and Buffy don't seem to remember at all. Even the writers did not make any connections to the prior episode.

However, despite this connection error, this is another fine episode in which Cissy remembers, but the Twins are not connecting properly.

And how did Cissy cancel the date with Alan as she has to come back due to Bill's meeting next monday ? He seemed nice to her...

And seeing Aunt Fran again would have been nice instead of snubbing her for this episode of reminescence.

However, if you love it, okay, I did, but would have love connections with the episode they aired 3 seasons ago.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
(2022)

Sounds promising after some deceptions... elsewhere
Was good to see this new series coming into place. As many Trekkies despised the last seasons of Discovery and recently, the 2nd season of Picard, at least we can reconnect with what was the Star Trek we knew less than 60 years ago.

Ok, the actors have changed for the characters they portrayed, but remains at canon. Added the fact that some of them would join another Enterprise later, but with a relative of lieutenant Simon Kirk.

Let's see what these Strange new Worlds will be like (I substracted 2 stars here: set is far more improved than the 1964 pilot... and possible we might have errors in canon here...).

Hit it !

La folie des grandeurs
(1971)

How greedy can you get in this rump ?
Quite a good movie done by Gerard Oury (who would direct De Funès later in "Rabbi Jacob"). The greedy and wicked Don Salluste (De Funes) gets dishonored by the Queen and King of Spain. By some inadvertance, Sallustre's valet Blaze, in love with the Queen is used by his master by passing as a noble man, only to get revenge and get his position back. However, it backfires somewhat, as the witty Blaze (as Don Cesar) also makes enemies from taxpayers, though at the beginning of the movie, he acts as a Robin Hood. And accidentally woos the Queen's matron instead.

A must see, especially when at a time poor people are exploited by the rich, and the rich makes everything not to pay a single penny of taxes to the Royals.

Louis de Funes and Yves Montand make a good duo here !

Moon Knight
(2022)

A Standalone worth the curiosity, if you like Egyptian Gods
Did start to watch this series as I thought that it would be connected later with the other Marvel movies or series, however this have to wait...

If you like Egyptian Deity or scenes within tombs or idols, avatars and other spells, you will like this series. At one point, I even found this series a cross over between Indiana Jones and Batman, as psychology, archaology and supernatural are involved in this.

Oscar Isaac does a good job here as Steven/Marc, so's Ethan Hawke as the strange Arthur (and the psychologist in the Asylum). And May Calamawy as Leyla steals the show here. F. Murray Abraham is great as the voice of the intimidating Khonshu...

But will it be connected later with the "Multiverse" ? Wait and see...

Wonder Woman 1984
(2020)

Ok, Gal is cute and powerful as WW, but what ?
Had to be polite here, Gal Gadot is great as Diana/Wonder Woman, cute and powerful... As good as its predecessor who has the end credits scene (yes, Lynda Carter !).

However, how come this over the top villain acting as a pretentious clown without a make-up has a plan to rule the world ? Of course, you have Barbara who is the complete loser here, whom Diana helps first, but abandon later and turns on her as a vicious feline.

Found the story quite torn up, I have seen this in Superman 3, however, could have been better with a much more powerful enemy. And it was rather standalone instead of a DC comics connection that could have occurred.

Please reboot this story, but keep Gal Gadot !

And Just Like That...
(2021)

For those who are ditching this series...
I believe this series stands good in my book. Though the "sex" part is not very much in matter here, it is the characters here facing the challenges of being 50+.

Though I won't tell what really happens here, I felt with my wife the same vibes as the original series and yes, the 2 movies...

So the main thing is not taking it in the funny way it was, but in today's reality, with a light touch...

Some flaws, yes, but for the rest, worth the watch, though we missed Samantha and her antics....

The Book of Boba Fett
(2021)

The Mandalorian 2.5, better known as The Book of Boba Fett
Well, the fans wanted it, Jon Favreau and his team listened, Boba Fett has his series, thanks to the Mandalorian.

If the start is a bit slow, with Boba alterning between his past (out of the Sarlacc Pit, the Tusken tribe) and his present (negociate with the current gangs, the Hutts, and finding some shady deal lurking in his back), it gets better with the return of an ally and a surprise along the way...

Good Star Wars story. If Temuera Morrison is ok in the role as well as Pedro Pascal at one point, the women stand out fine: Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand stands out (always remember the Agent May in her, back in the Agents of SHIELD days...), also Sophie Thatcher as one of the Mods and suprisingly Jennifer Beals which we did not see lately. The Flashdance girl always look good !

There are references to all Star Wars movies and animation story canon, check it out...

Last episode has an after credit scene...(better fix your end credits shrinking scheme Disney+ ! Getting annoying to put the screen right when you're eager to watch the end...)

Hawkeye
(2021)

Good series, Hailee steals the show
Though there is some connections here and there, and secrets to be revealed, Hawkeye is a pleasant surprise.

Some long scenes, but great action here and there. Last episode is quite explosive but could have been shortened in excessive action.

However, I would have passed the corny end-credits scene for a related future hint. (and the over-exagerrated "credit shrinking" device that Disney+ and other streaming companies used to based on algorhitms suggesting "You may also like..." which most of us DON'T LIKE AT ALL... Free the end credits !)

Bring on the next series... Moon Knight ? Should be good if it's still connected...

And note to Disney+: end-shrinking credits should be an OPTION, not an OBLIGATION ! Take note !

No Time to Die
(2021)

Goodbye Mr.Craig, you made a memorable Bond !
Again, the Daniel Craig's Bond saga ends up with a satisfying movie, along with action and twists. Those who were a bit deceived with "Spectre" will have their share of redeeming satisfaction.

Sad to see Mr. Craig leaving like this, but he brought 007 to another level and hope that his successor will keep the pace to bring intrigue, action and romance within the countries the famous spy brings us. As well as great villain. (Note for those who found Rami Malek quite bland as the villain, they rather should watch "Dr. No", as Joseph Wiseman was a calm villain in the title role...).

This is a story well told, from Italy to Jamaica, then Cuba (it was not shot there...), and from Norway to the disputed islands near the Aleloutian Islands between Russia and Japan...

And 007 as a woman. Ok to me !

Last spoiler: Bond knows he has a desendant... A little girl, Madeleine's daughter.

Thanks Mr Craig. You can share the claim with the late MM. Connery and Moore, as well as MM. Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan, who bore the 007 legacy (regarding the Broccoli productions of course !).

Chéri, fais-moi peur
(1958)

Wild slapstick spy flick in the French Alps
Saw it recently in "StudioCanal" in Canada.

French romp with the late actor Darry Cowl, who plays a somewhat pretentious book writer specialized in crime stories. As he is taking a vacation after winning a literary prize (a million Francs !), he is somewhat tangled in a strange story involving 2 teams of spys, a female book fan, the hotel owner and his strange valet, a zealous police commissioner and a cute "hotel rat" which our hero, Jerome, will fall in love with.

However, this tale of switcheroo (a lost letter inside bank notes) has a lot of slapstick around and ends up like a circus act inside a laundry room. However, in one point, you get a bit tired of this.

Besides Darry Cowl, fans of French-dubbed movies can enjoy the work of Roger Carel, whom with his Russian accent, if you close your eyes, can make you remember the many movies and cartoons he dubbed for most of his career.

Watch it one time and move on !

The Beatles: Get Back: Part 1: Days 1-7
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 1

The real truth is here
Since "Let it Be" did confuse and deceive Beatles' fans around the world, this time, we know what happenned behind the curtains.

If "Let it Be" got us into the worst theories, well how come:

  • George brought some Hindu friends over.

  • Yoko was respectuous during the process next with John, and even went into the fun.

  • The guys had fun until George went into a gloomy attitude in front of John and Paul.

  • Ringo, though silent, waits patiently and even want to help out bringing George back.

And of course, the birth of new Beatles classics. And interesting covers by the band itself...

The Fab Four wanted to come together, for one last time...

Great episode !

Riverdale: Chapter Ninety-Six: Welcome to Rivervale
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 6

Okay, what happened into Cheryl's head ?
Was troubled with the premiere of the sixth season. Let's wrap up here...

Jughead hosts this episode just like Rod Sterling did in the Twilight Zone.

The town been's rechristened "Rivervale"

Everybody enjoying love and the little problems of life...

However, there is somebody troubling: Cheryl Blossom.

Our dear arrogant, condescending, pretentious, quipping Queen does it again. Though at first her army of lady archers seem intimidating to her cousin Betty (who's in the FBI), finally, she gets everyone influenced in her power (including a Maple Festival) so a big human sacrifice can be done in order to get revenge on an event happened so long ago...

And a redhead shall be the One... Well you can guess...

Ok Sabrina, come and fight this evil mistress of Red...

End of Story...

Black Widow
(2021)

Not as good, not as great, but was ok.
Had good expectations regarding this movie. Though Scarlett Johanson's performance was ok, it was Black Widow's sister who stole the show here. However, story a bit confusing until you built the puzzle and got sense in mid-movie. But takes some time to make sense.

It covers 3 periods: 1990s when they were a family (almost, however, you know Disney and family values eh ?), after Civil War after General Russ (always good to see William Hurt) goes after Natasha, and after the end credits (with a little manoeuvre to avoid the constant "shrinking credits" function from Disney+...) when Valentina summons Yelena for a "special mission" after the "Avengers Endgame" events.

Ok to watch one time, but move on to further with the Fourth phase, including the Disney+ Marvel exclusive series...

What If...?: What If... Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?
(2021)
Episode 6, Season 1

If Iron Man did not exist...
I liked this episode. Killmonger gets his plans straight to use Tony Stark "sans Iron Man" to prepare his entrance to Wakanda. Some killings on the way, however, it has its load of twists.

We would have like Robert Downey Jr. Reprise his role as Tony Stark, but hearing the late Chadwick Boseman again, this is cool enough !

He's All That
(2021)

Out of respect for Cook and Lilliard... please avoid if you have enough of cell cams
Though was pleased to see Rachael Leigh Cook (as a mom) and Matthew Lilliard (as a principal), the latters from the original "She's all That!" which I will always enjoy, unfortunately, seeing too much exposure from a teen girl from her cell phone to get popularity, until she makes this infamous bet to transform this stable boy into a cool guy, well, not my genre.

Stick with the original, at least a rich guy gets out of his snooty entourage and get some life...

(should have given one star, but seeing some nostalgia from Rachael and Matthew, as well as the red dress and the song Kiss Me in a different interpretation, boosted 2 more stars but that's how it goes...)

Tintin et le mystère de la Toison d'Or
(1961)

Makes you forget Spielberg's adaptation
Though the movie done by Steven Spielberg has some qualities, this movie rely on no special effects nor actors being overdrawn after motion caption.

Done in 1961 (and a sequel later in 1964), Tintin and Haddock are going to Turkey to reclaim a ship left by a late acquaintance of the Captain. However, as a suspicious businessman who was a friend of the deceased want to buy the ship at a ridiculous price, it is a start for an adventure that goes to the Greek countryside in order to find what's so mysterious about this ship. And find out on the way that the late captain was not as clean as it appears.

Just watch it for fun and excitement. This was nicely photographed and the duo of Jean-Pierre Talbot (Tintin) and Georges Wilson (Haddock, and also he is actor Lambert Wilson's father) are delightful to see.

And this was done for real, no animation involved.

What If...?: What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?
(2021)
Episode 2, Season 1

Thank you Chadwick !
We are able in this episode to hear one last time Chadwick Boseman which was a fine actor who portrayed the legendary Black Panther. Come to think of it, I better enjoyed this episode than both GOTG. Some caracters were more developed here, such as Nebula with hair and Thanos who somewhat joined the Ravagers. And Yondu steals again the show...

Some product placement here from Dairy Queen, but hey, cool episode ! Black Panther is indeed the new Star Lord.

Rest in Peace Chadwick.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch
(2021)

Filoni has the "Star Wars" touch !
As much as I enjoyed The Clone Wars and Rebels, Filoni marks again the spot with this Bad Batch, coming from an episode of "Clone Wars" from the final season.

At least, we see through the adventures of this renegade bunch of clone misfits, how the Empire was built up and spreaded fear through the next period (as we saw in "Solo", "Rebels" and "Rogue One"), but mostly we see a gang of former Republic clone soldiers, looking for themselves, while fleeing the Empire as renegades, aware that they have to protect a child made the same way as theirs, as well as avoid their former colleague, Crossface, becoming a tool of the new Empire, in which they'll try someday, to reason with him...

However, as it is quoted: A Good Soldier follows Orders. However, whose Order is the best: Empire or Rebel ? It's yours to see and judge for yourselves...

Should be entertaining, and another cool chapter in the Star Wars saga...

Cobra Kai: December 19
(2021)
Episode 10, Season 3

Wow, another great finale. Cobra Kai rocks...
Seems if the adults can settle their past wounds, the present ones between the teenagers (especially Samantha and Tory) doesn't seem to heal at all, ending with an awaited confrontation with the three sensei... it is not over yet...

However, incredible how Elizabeth Shue steals the show here. So cool to see her in the last two episodes and still looks good. And the flashback starring Kreese being captured with his platoon and forced to fight over a snake pit, that's quite awesome...

If season 4 can come fast. I did enjoy season 3 and all its twists and turns. Seeing Kumiko and Chozen as well in episodes 4 and 5 too. Thanks again to create a new universe in the original Karate Kid saga...

If only Pat Morita was there again with us... But his spirit lives... Hoi !

The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue
(2020)
Episode 8, Season 2

The perfect conclusion
Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau did the impossible: to bring back the Star Wars Universe to fans who lost hope since the last 3 motion pictures.

A Mandalorian, a babyface Yoda named Grogu, many Imperial and Republic references, links to past movies and series. But this episode revealed a lot of surprises and something to look about in the next season, or its future spinoffs...

The Force has a bright future...

Star Trek: Discovery: Terra Firma, Part 2
(2020)
Episode 10, Season 3

No, this series deserves better respect...
This is for all Star Trek bashers. Do not send this series to the "agonizer"...

This 2-part episode brought back the "Mirror" universe and at the end, the famous gate to "Forever", which was introduced in the Original Series. It was enjoyable, as the totalitarian universe of "Terra Firma" is gladly shown here.

However, sad to see Georgiou leave like this, this is her fate, as the jump to the Future was not healthy to her. It opens the gate to more possibilities. And to Burham (no she isn't whispering...), a new mission to possibly take down the Ring of Emerald with Captain Saru, her lover Book and the rest of the crew...

The 3 last episodes of the season will tell...
