White Van Man
(2011)

Fantastic.
Finally a new comedy that does what other comedies struggle to do and that's to make you laugh out loud. Will Mellor is brilliant as the hapless Ollie, struggling to make a living as a handyman with his sidekick Darren. The first episode is fast paced, well written and genuinely funny. I challenge anyone to watch the office scene and not laugh uncontrollably and continue laughing to the end of the episode. The rest of the cast play their parts well and add to the feel of the show. Hopefully the series continues at this pace, it is repeated on BBC1 and the BBC commission another series. Everyone I know who has seen it has loved it. Go on- give it a go.

Lee Nelson's Well Good Show
(2010)

Qualiteee!
Contrary to another reviewers opinion, Lee Nelson's Well Good Show is not as stated 'Probably the worst show ever to be broadcast on BBC 3' but is for the most part a masterclass at improvisation and audience participation.

I actually only caught the end of the series by accident whilst channel hopping but was surprised at how brilliant Simon Brodkin's Lee Nelson was at engaging the audience with lightning fast one-liners and observational comedy. I have since watched the entire series and was so impressed that myself and two friends went to watch him live in Preston which included an unexpected appearance from Omelette on stage and a part in the DVD extras.

I implore people to watch the first series and make up their own minds. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

(By the way, I am a 39 year old teacher so neither brain dead nor humourless)

Gran Torino
(2008)

Cheesiest film ever.
I can't believe that this terrible film has been nominated for so many awards. The acting is at best amateur dramatic level as all the characters look and sound as though they are reading their lines from an autocue. Clint Eastwood for some reason also says all of his lines through gritted teeth.

The story is so cheesy its amazing it got past its test screening. (Korean boy tries to steal car, gets taken under racist ex-war heroes wing and gets car in the end.) I could have told you that was going to happen after the first 10 minutes.

Also, the way that the characters interact with each other is just laughable. At no point in the film did I care what happened next and actually felt quite happy when he gets shot as I knew the film was coming to an end.

I would urge anyone with at least half a brain not to believe the hype that this film has generated and avoid it like the plague.
