(2013)

New Action Hero Has Arrived in Bollywood
Oh my gosh! Incredible. Finally Vidyut Jamwal, a real action hero has arrived in India. Although he debuted in Force along with John Abraham, it would be wrong to term him hero for that, because his role was of a villain. But in Commando, he is a full-fledged tough action hero without much CGI effects as disclaimed by the film units.

To be straight, Commando works only because of Vidyut Jamwal's martial arts stunt skills, and the villain who would go beyond ruthless or brutal for saving his honor. Besides, former Miss. India Pooja Chopra's first leading role which would remind you of Kareena Kapoor's role as Geet in Jab We Met as a talkative with straight forward behavior. Pooja performed her best to go on accordingly with the offered role, and is not less impressive.

Vidyut plays here as Karanvir Dogra, a savior to Simran who is forcefully threatened to marry by the local gang leader AK 74. Karan is a highly skilled Indian Commando who was wrongfully arrested & tortured in China by mishap during an operation. After one year, the story shifts to Simran who is on an attempt to secretly run away from home to stay away from AK 47, who is cynical to marry her. Then, she meets Karan who encounters all the goons to prevent her from being chased by them. Now, begins the cat and mouse chase part.

There were many Bollywood action movies in the past, but this movie holds a special place in the list because of the real life martial artist Vidyut Jamwal who alone dominates the whole story of Commando. Action movies acted by Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, John Abraham etc. were nothing to this newly arrived action hero who is fully prepared to impress the present generation with a macho & flexible personality. Those olden days are over where CGI and wired stunts were carried to entertain the audiences in the form of masala movies. Yes, Commando is also a masala action movie, but it's much tougher and real like type in actions and stunts. I would term Vidyut Jamwal as a new Bruce Lee with lean muscled body who can fly, jump or climb to any extent if necessary to eliminate the goons. And yet, he performed those with panache and natural looking form that you cannot negatively compliment on it. Newbie director Dilip Ghosh did unpredictably a good job.

Final word guys – watch it if you are really a crazy fan of action or thriller genre movies, and sure you will be impressed by Vidyut. Keep my words. And, Vidyut has a good way to go ahead in Bollywood.

Inception
(2010)

Beginning of Dreams come True
Christopher Nolan is back again, this time with Leonardo DiCaprio. It always spark when two talented stars meet. The astonishing director who presented some masterpieces such as Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight etc. has astonished us again with this new age sci-fiction thriller Inception. Nolan always commit himself on a different kind of film-making technique, from his own views and angles, ultimately gets successful to attract all type of audiences.

Inception has been promoted with tag-lines of "James Bond meets The Matrix", or Nolan himself termed it as "Ocean's Eleven meets The Matrix". Definitely the movie has both the touches of James Bond series, and somewhat with Ocean's series, mostly in the introduction part. Which is why some scenes deeply remind of the Ocean's series. Nolan used this perfect idea for marketing the movie. But actually, as the story moves forward it stats to gain it's originality and unique concepts.

What make Inception so unique is it's storytelling techniques, though sometime confusing, with many twists and turns, mix of several special effects and it's thrilling background score. Background score keeps the viewers constantly stare at the screen, and to the edge of the seat. Many disasters and action scenes were represented perfectly with rich graphical interfaces. Locations and aesthetic environments in several parts of the story with twists also need appreciation.

Not everybody will understand the main concept of Inception unless they curiously focus and concentrate on the happenings. What you can never miss in Inception are it's rich graphical effects and serious roles of all the actors. They all deserve adequate attention.

Nolan is perfect in his casting as always, and Caprio fits the bill as the protagonist of Inception. Caprio understands well which role suits him, and selects the movie accordingly. His facial expressions and body languages with the character and the story are simply amazing, and always to the peak. He has returned to the audiences who can remember him forever. Joseph Gordon-Levitt too has a meaty role which justifies the main story and cannot be ignored. He is nonetheless than Caprio in terms of performance. But unlike in Nolan's Batman series, Michael Caine is limited to offer here for very short duration, but still in prominence. No idea why his role was not expanded so that we could watch more of his versatile performance.

With Inception, Nolan proved that he has his own ways of creating a story, then forming it into a smooth directorial venture. Finally bringing out the finished movie product to the audiences. He can also enter inside their psychological state and win their applause and rewards. After Memento, Inception would certainly remain as a landmark in Hollywood as an all time psychological and sci-fiction thriller.

NEVER MISS IT...!!!!

Knight and Day
(2010)

Just like Mission Impossible-4
After seeing the high-definition trailer of Knight and Day in Youtube I was crazily waiting for it's release, and I vowed to catch it only in theater. I was totally impressed by the trailer, and the kind of storyline of which usually I'm a regular watcher. This is undoubtedly my type of movie - in which a spy and something mystery is involved.

Finally, after it released I watched it today. I enjoyed it perfectly with its twisted turns and fast paced actions and comedies. The stunts performed with touch of CGI are great and entertaining. But for sure, to watch all the stunt scenes we need to keep our brain-logic aside for two hours, and we can never find out the logic of why 'a hero is always best'. After a successful Mission Impossible-3 (2006) Tom Cruise returned with a hard core action thriller, mixed with romantic comedies. In my judgment, the stunts and action angles carried out here are much improved and interesting than his Mission Impossible series.

The storyline is simple and straight forward with common happenings - a man meets a woman and slowly something starts to happen between them. Cruise plays as secret agent Roy Miller who is skilled in delivering timely duties to his mission. In the beginning his role seems to be in dark side but with dangerous purpose, but slowly the real facts appear. He always follow June (Cameron Diaz)for unknown purposes, and protects her from goons. But there is always something as a reason behind these happenings. After interval we get to know the real identity of Roy Miller with short background.

Cruise is perfect enough to opt for this kind of heroic roles, and entertain his fans. His fans would certainly enjoy with this male dominated movie. Cameron has lesser parts to show, other than her feminine characteristics. Certainly, so far, this is my favorite movie starred by Cameron Diaz. She appears terrifically hot and smart in her role with Cruise - much improved than in Vanilla Sky. But I think we could have seen hotter scenes between the 2 stars, as they have a sizzling chemistry.

After 3:10 to Yuma, a western classical, James Mangold is back with this contemporary action thriller. His masterpiece Walk the Line or Identity are also memorable.

At last, Knight and Day is not a masterpiece but definitely worth a watch, and entertaining till the end. Hope to see Cruise and Cameron come back together again.

Rann
(2010)

Rann…Let us join the Battle
After Sarkar and Sarkar Raj RGV is back again with another serious creation that brings out some of the most important hidden elements of activities running inside the country. Rann is one such movie which emphasizes on teaching the hidden truth to the audiences than entertaining them. Here the prime subject of Rann is media behind the camera and political corruptions, although it is not new but at least editing and presentations are acceptable.

According to box office report Rann failed in return on investment. But who cares it whether a hit or flop!!! We have to care only whether it succeeds to touch the consciences of the large spectrum of audiences. Most of the critics thumbs upped the movie but due to lack of audiences it could hardly run in the business.

As the audiences of a democratic country each and everyone have the right to like or dislike a particular movie. And to tell the truth I liked and enjoyed Rann. In justifications of performances Big B did a mindblowing job as a media icon Vijay Harshvardhan Malik owning a TV news channel India 24x7. But, in some moments his role reminds of Subhash Nagre in Sarkar and differences are only in his dresses. After all it also came from RGV.

Sudeep played the role of US returned Indian who wishes to settle in India and help his father in controlling the TV news channel. His role is prepared to put more pressures in the story. Sometimes his character appears as emotionally immature man, who most of the time loses his sentiments. He was much better in Phoonk than in Rann.

Next comes Ritesh Deshmukh who puts some masala in the storyline as a decent and serious journalist Purav Shastri, who is the only solution to the problems. To date he is offered here his evergreen role, and that is also in a RGV production. Ritesh appears better in serious and dashing roles than fool or comedian boy. I give thousands thumbs to him in Rann!!! Paresh Rawal as a politician Mohan Pandey is not new. And we have been seeing him in this kind of appearances right from the late 1980s. He looks rather tired than fresh, and hardly influences in the story. The other actors need not be mentioned, as they are not necessary. Moreover, Rajpal Yadav has nothing new to make us laugh than getting rid of him.

Rann is a very serious movie as like as previous RGV movies, and what should we expect more than this? He is a kind of filmmaker who experiments on a particular subject instead of trying to entertain the audiences. He does not agitate in making a movie in his own way with his own beliefs and ideas. But as long as Rann runs till the end, it brings out thoughts about moral and corruptions in audiences' minds. Hope to see again such movies from RGV in future.

Kambakkht Ishq
(2009)

Not Entertaining, But Very Irritating
Kambakht Ishq is more irritating than entertaining. Kareena's worst performance till date, even worse than her role in Tashan. After watching her poor performance I just realised that Indian film industry board should also introduce award for worst performances and worse movies, just like Hollywood's Razzie Award. If it was introduced than Kareena would have been lucky for this award. But Akshay is so normal and interesting, though I'm not his fan. His performance is better than other roles he has been offered, and he proudly handled playing his role along with some renowned Hollywood celebrities like Stallone, Denise Richards or Holly Valance. There is not a single sign of tension in his appearance. So far he is lucky of getting such chances.

It is not necessary to describe briefly the story of Kambakht Ishq, because there is nothing new which can be pointed out. But it is just a Love-Hate, Hate-Love and finally a Marriage Story.

Only impressive moments were when both Viraj and Simrita shout wildly against each other, and they performed it uniquely. Aftab Shivdasani had nothing much to offer than a sidekick to Akshay. The script of Kambakht Ishq is totally wastage and most of it is out of sense. As the characters roll on it is not hard to guess or predict as to what can we see in the next few scenes. According to me, the most minus point in the movie is with short role of Boman Irani. I feel really pity for his short and useless role. If it was extended then I hope it would bring more attention in the boring story. One more is with Kiron Kher. Her role is so neglected, less important and can easily be compared to her parts in Dostana with Abhishekh and John.

Amrita Arora, Javed Jaffrey and Ashwin Mushran hardly come into notice, as they are most boring roles played here. But Vindu Dara Singh's role as Tiger who is co-stuntman of Viraj, is completely well balanced and justified to his character. It is clear that the American celebrities with short appearance were just to bring out some magnetic touches to market the film for large number of audiences. No doubt, it failed finally. Even Akshay could not carry out the whole movie alone himself.

Salaami
(1994)

Too Many Songs Make It Bored, Otherwise Fine
I have been hearing these songs in everywhere during 1995-2002, and are great presents from composer duo Nadeem-Shravan who were once the ruler of romantic melodies in Bollywood. Now they are no more, and the taste of the audiences changed with new generations. I used to think this movie will be just like usual 90's style stereotypical Bollywood movies. But it seems to be little better than these, and surprisingly I liked a bit.

Ayub Khan plays as Vijay, a very honest cadet in Indian Military Academy, Dehradun or IMA who falls in love with a local young girl named Sami (no idea of her real name). Her strict mothers, who has a very tragedy history associated with IMA, and therefore doesn't trust anyone to give her daughter's hand. Besides them, there is also a local gang leader who is also crazy for Sami, and fortunately his corrupted Superintendent father favours him. On the other side, Vijay who lost his both parents in the very childhood, meets new parents to Major Rahim Khan (Kabir Bedi) and his 'begum'. The most crucial incident happens when a new young girl Kavita arrives in the town who happens to be daughter of Saeed Jaffrey. The story takes a new twist turn and makes it complicated. To know more, better you watch it at least once.

I personally liked the movie, and I really didn't expect much. But there are some very unique romantic dialogues from the three main characters – Vijay, Sami and Kavita who did their own possibilities to perform their best. Without any doubt, it is clear that this is the most interesting offer Ayub Khan received in his whole career. Other movies where he played lead role were not as effective as his role and performances in Salaami. The story writer tried to create a clear understanding between romance and military duty by emphasizing on Indian Military Academy, and it is reflected in the role of Vijay and Major Rahim Khan who continuously admire the military system. And there are several scenes involving cadets' training. These show patriotic aspects of India.

The songs were very popular in every music systems, marriage parties or crowd places during its time. The reason was nothing but heart touching romantic songs from Nadeem-Shravan. But it is boring in some way how the songs are frequently presented in the movie, which were not required. This makes the movie so long and bored to watch. It could be easily avoided. Finally, there are some dialogues from Vijay which he delivers with his broken heart, that give some reliefs for love failure people or who lost in the game of love. So, if anyone wish to see a good old romantic movie from Bollywood I would like to recommend you Salaami.

Yuvvraaj
(2008)

Subhash is not a 'Yuvvraaj' in Bollywood box-office
I highly expected positive outcome from this film specially after seeing its first trailer in TV and promoting it as a musical. And also deeply impressed with the song Tu Meri Dost Hai from Rahman. But does it really deserve to disappoint its audience? If I think over this question then it is absolutely 'yes', Whenever any Subhash Ghai film is being made, and about to release first thing that comes in my mind is it must have these common subjects associated in the film. These subjects are – family, wealth, tradition and music. In this case Yuvvraaj is also not an exceptional. In brief, the whole story is about three brothers with numerous differences among themselves are in target of owning the rights of their properties after their father's demise. Not only this, besides there is another globe which is concerned to music. After all this is a Shubash Ghai film.

At first I have to mention is of casting, which is considerable. Then comes performance. Throughout the whole movie only Anil Kapoor is in his form to entertain the audience from his side though he plays something very unusual role in his career. Even that I didn't expect his unique role before finally catching the film.

What to say about Salman!!! He is the one who always play similar type of role which is always related to conspiracy, jealous, bossy and domination. I was so shocked about 2 years before when it was rumoured that he was casted in this film by Shubash Ghai. I couldn't believe it then, but now ultimately I finished watching. OK there is nothing new from Salman in judgment of his performance, character and the role he is offered in Yuvvraaj. His body language, facial expression, speaking manner and dressing looks are not different from his other 10 films. It shows he doesn't commit himself seriously to bring out reality in the character in every movie. It is clear all cannot become either Aamir Khan or Kamal Hassan.

Last but not the least of all three brothers Danesh, performed by Zayed Khan. I don't know when will Zayed be offered for an award winning role in his career. Not even a single film I have in mind to prove that he is an excellent actor. His previous flops like Mission Istanbul or Speed were really senseless and lower grade movies. Here too I was completely disappointed by him.

But again, Boman Irani is always and all time interesting actor whose sense of humour is precious to any movie where he is involved with. He is really a brilliant actor, and in Yuvvraaj his role could have also done by Anupam Kher, but anyway Boman was an excellent choice.

Now come to Subhash Ghai? He has lost his creative ideas and cannot cope up with the present generation audiences, and thus he again provided this kind of outdated script. Moreover these days it is already common in Bollywood stories about brothers rivaling with each other for wealth and money. And this is the exact reason for bombing this movie in box-office. His last movie that audiences as well as critics accepted was his Taal (or before this Pardes which was a masterpiece). It was followed a hat-trick with 3 continuous flops Yaadein, Kisna and Black & White. Now Yuvvraaj reached to fourth serial flop. SO BETTER NOT TO EXPECT MUCH FROM HIM IN THE COMING FUTURE.

Golmaal Returns
(2008)

Golmaal really returned
Golmaal Returns is back again with full of entertainment and enjoyment. I had to clear at first that Golmaal was not in my comedy hit list since I didn't really like it although it was positively received. To me it was a damn senseless and boring story, also performances were not deeply committed by the actors.

But this second version of Golmaal is quiet hilarious and hope it can be one of the best comedies of 2008. The most noticeable case with director Rohit is that he mostly repeats his favourite cast in his every movie. That includes – Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Mukesh Tiwari, Sanjay Mishra etc. This time he made a bit masala of suspense and action than Golmaal but comedy is still his favourite subject. The screenplay and dialogues are really impressive, which ignite to concentrate on the story. The new additions to this series are Shreyas Talpade, Anju Shuklani and Amrita Arora who were not in Golmaal. But Shreyas strongly proved that he is not less than Sharman who was originally casted as Laxman Prasad in the first version. This difference of casting was also handled differently by the director in t he story where Gopal (Ajay) meets Laxman (Shreyas) and asks his name, when after learning he replied there was also another Laxman Prasad who passed away. He takes out the picture of Sharman and shows to Shreyas.

Arshad Warsi as inspector Madhav also performed superbly better than Golmaal, where as Tusshar is the best in his role as a deaf but true romantic barber. And as Gopal done by Ajay Devgan, I had to say this is one of his best comedian parts he has offered in his career. He improved a lot after his previous comedies like Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, Ishq, Sunday, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin or Golmaal.

There is no doubt that Golmaal Returns is a clean and fresh movie without any dark side. This made the movie to be successful with majority of audiences.

Karzzzz
(2008)

Himesh is not Rishi, Rishi wasn't Himesh
It is always defended remake should not be compared with the original,..but it is hard to avoid. That's why I need to comment on both the movies. In Bollywood there were numerous movies made based on reincarnation such as Kudrat (1981), Karan Arjun, Hamesha, Prem or recent like Om Shanti Om.

Satish Kaushik is back again with this reincarnation tale after his 1995's Prem which was also based on 'punar janam'. Compulsarily I have to mention about the casting which is not satisfactory at all. The casting is quite poor and if we target the movie with reality it stands nowhere to a standard movie. Here are the reasons. First is casting of Himesh as the leading role Monty, which was performed by Rishi Kapoor in the original, does not ignite much to watch it. As it was spread the news that Ranbir would have been a better choice if he was offered to reprise his dad's evergreen role in this modern version of reincarnation story Karzzzz. Still then arguably Himesh's role is arranged with the exception of today's audiences, and finally did his own justified role as much as he could. Secondly, debutante actress Shweta Kumar, who is given to reprise the role originally performed by Tina Munim. She has nothing qualities to be described as an actress of Bollywood, even though she is a daughter of memorable director Indra Kumar. Besides, she has no sense of acting or speaking accent and has a long way to improve herself to be listed in A grade actresses. Third and final weakness is with Danny Denzongpa who parts as Kabira, a Muslim addicted with olden Bollywood dialogues. Although his role is interesting and performed his best here but he actually doesn't look like a Muslim at all. Shouldn't it be justified with reality?

The movie is at its peak point only when Monty (Himesh) meets vamp Princess Kamini (Urmila) and the thrilling romances between them flow forward. It was an exciting to see them together and challenging for one another. But here again something looks fake between the ageing of Himesh and Urmila with their role. Urmila doesn't suit with the role as a senior woman than Himesh, with whom the latter dates even. It has no sense at all if it is compared with Simi Garewal and Rishi Kapoor, which was far more acceptable. The remaining casts were incapable of making the story hit except Dino Morea who has a short cameo role for about 10 minutes and later sometimes sparking out with past memories.

The songs are also average, and only best for Himesh's personal fans but not beyond that. Himesh improved his acting and body languages a lots after his first Aap Ka Suroor, but only weakness with the remake story. Om Shanti Om was based on with many references from Karz but it was superb in itself and Shahrukh did almost a comparable performance with Rishi Kapoor.

Still then original are always best than the remakes, and same is the case between Karz and Karzzzz.

Ghajini
(2005)

Memento made in India
Long time back I watched Memento, which was a masterpiece in the thriller generation. It was (and is) one of my all time favourite thrillers. After watching it I became a great fan of Christopher Nolan who also later provided us two Batman movies so far. Now after a long time again I had to see Indian version of Memento. Here Indian in the sense doesn't always mean of Hindi film industry Bollywood. It can be of any industry, and let's take here Tamil film industry Kollywood since Ghajini is originally made in Tamil as well dubbed in Telugu.

I must admit that I caught this Ghajini just by its subtitle since I cannot understand any of Southern Indian languages. Just after learning that it was inspired from Memento I decided of watching it, but neglected again and again. And so now I am commenting on this impressive title Ghajini after finally grabbing it.

In Memento Christopher Nolan used a unique storytelling technique which was not used before by any other director, and made me to watch it thrice to understand the whole story. But although Ghajini is not exactly a carbon copy of Memento, it has the similarities of the lead role suffering from 'anterograde amnesia' and following the incidents of written notes & tattoos corner by corner in his body as reminders. Still then the main theme was on taking revenge of his lover's murderers. The rest of the story is from itself.

Murugadoss did a memorable job by making an Indian version of Memento in his own way by using his own talent and not fully depending on Hollywood. Nevertheless, Surya Sivakumar is really impressive in both roles – as a rich, cool and romantic businessman lover as well as a serious amnesiac running after murderers for revenge. And most important to mention is the name of Asin who performed a tragic but marvelous role as Kalpana. Pradeep Rawat's double role was so boring, and I guess it was created just to spark in the running story, nothing else than this. I watched him first and last time in super hit Sarfarosh as illegal weapon supplier Sultan, and now again.

I equally noticed some unnecessary issues like police officer's role performed by Riyaz Khan. His role was not that important for the story but he appeared in the movie as if he is born simply to die from an amnesiac patient. After his first appearance I expected as if he has a strong significance in making the story sharper. Besides, many songs were also not important for showing the tragic romance between Sanjay and Kalpana, and could easily be avoided.

After all I wish to give only 7 out of 10 for lacking of originality in the action scenes. During running of the movie only the fact that made me bored were the action scenes by which I felt as if I am watching some cartoons in Cartoon Network or Pogo. I know most of the Indian action scenes are made in this sense just to turn a superhero for some time. That's why Ghajini could have been a superb heart-touching and entertaining if important action scenes are presented more realistically than they are.

A Wednesday
(2008)

One common man had the guts
In recent times Bollywood has been giving us movies with social, terrorism & national security concern, like Rang De Basanti, Halla Bol, Dhokha, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Mission Istanbul and many more. In that category, certainly A Wednesday also falls.

The movie is one of the best present from Bollywood after a long time without any useless storyline. Whole the 100 minutes of the movie is not wasted and every single moment has a value. Without doubt I can certify that one more 'diamond' is born in the Hindi film industry, i.e. director Neeraj Pandey. In his directorial debut movie he proved that there is no any risk of being a new director if one has creativity & sense of reality. He gave us a marvelous thriller with a simple and easily understanding story.

After Chaahat and China Gate, now again both Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah appeared together in the same movie. These two are Bollywood's all time evergreen & memorable stars who have their own ideas, intelligence and personality to reach towards the audiences. When two bright stars join together there is always a powerful light. And this happens in this movie.

The exact idea of A Wednesday is to create awareness among the common citizens of the country who live their daily lives with the worries of becoming preys of terrorism. Most interesting moment comes in the final part when both Anupam and Naseeruddin have a strong argument in their own points of view. Both do their challenging roles as to prove who is a better actor, but ultimately none become less than the other.

Jimmy Shergil did a memorable role as a serious encounter specialist in the police department of whom everyone is scared of. Besides him I am too impressed by the acting of Aamir Bashir who did a TV serial named Sarhadein. Here he plays an attentive and dutiful inspector Jai Singh, and has a strong impact upon the story. And one more effective role is of Deepal Shaw as a reporter of UTV news. Of course she is not in the main role but still she deserves attention in the whole story. All the way, whole the casting group did their tasks firmly without any complain.

I don't hesitate to say that I have been waiting for a long time to see this kind of thriller movie from Bollywood, and at last got it. I bet that now Bollywood also can make good thriller in its own way without any support from Hollywood. This is what exactly Neeraj Pandey has proved now. I also bet that one more director came to join with Rajkumar Santoshi, Prakash Jha, John Matthew Mathan, JP Dutaa, Mani Ratnam etc.

100x thumbs up!!! to A Wednesday.

Hijack
(2008)

Hijack the audiences
Do you want to be hijacked of watching this movie? If yes then it is for you. By the title it is not that difficult to imagine what is the story all about. Moreover there is nothing newly added storyline, and most parts are predictable as of what is going to happen in the next scene. For those who did not watch yet this time-passing thriller it would be better not to expect much. Just go with your own risk of spending some bucks on it and not regret later.

I mostly compare this with the brilliant movie Zameen directed by Rohit Shetty and casted Ajay and Abhishekh together which was also concerned with the release of a strong and powerful terrorist leader, for whom his free gang hijack the plane. But it was made with brilliant cinematography and performances were over the top. Whereas in Hijack there is not a single subject which can impress the audiences, not even newly introducing Air Indian air-hostess Kaveri Jha nor Shiny Ahuja. Kaveri has mini pivotal role but failed to capture the hearts of the audiences. If she acts again in future then hope that she is handled by a renowned director to improve her acting skill or else stay in her own career – air hostess.

Before the release of Hijack it has been informed that Shiny himself stunted most of the action scenes, and if so then he is simply alright. Some of the last plane chasing scenes remind me of Akshay Kumar in Khiladi 420, but in that case Shiny even can't score 50 within 100. Still then this is Shiny and not Akshay. I am mostly impressed by Esha Deol's performance as an air-hostess who has very important role in rescuing the passengers. She is appreciable by her appearances, although her role is innocent.

Anyway, Hijack is just for a short time spending movie, and is not a must watch. As long as the movie moves forward you are about to be entertained, or enjoy. But as it get to the end you would realise that you could have done something else. The only interesting thing I found in the whole movie is the surprising mischievous jobs done by the hijackers with the passengers inside the plane. They do one by one brutal murder with funny sequences and is someway noticing.

For those who have interests in general knowledge they would be highly impressed by the ending credits in which some true facts and histories about hijacking plane are presented.

Halla Bol

Shout Against Crime....Halla Bol
This is one of the movies which will remain in my collection for lifetime, and like to watch it again and again. I am a big fan of Rajkumar Santoshi's movies except for Family which deserved nothing mark. Though he is considered as a commercial filmmaker, but the way he makes every movie has deep relations with the real world. Another example in this category is Prakash Jha.

Halla Bol is about Sameer/Ashfaque, a street actor turned superstar after stepping in Mumbai's B-Town. Before he was under guidance of old aged dacoit Siddhu for fighting against social and political corruptions. But after he gained superstar position in the film industry he avoids to step in controversy as it would spoil his stardom and popularity. In that way, he faces the case for Rashmi Sahani murder case, in which he was a perfect witness.

It is clear that Ajay is a favorite choice of Santoshi for casting in this kind of movies which have social messages to the citizens. Ajay and Vidya Balan couple looks great and cool. But the one who makes this movie interestingly worth a watch is Pankaj Kapoor. His convincing and motivating role as a dacoit turned reformer Siddhu is superb and deserved 10 out of 10 because only his presence takes the movie in forward. Santoshi did a brilliant job by casting such a talented actor in his project. But the most irritating role included here is of Darshan Jariwala as minister Ganpatrao. His performances look damn dull and blunt, as well it could have been prepared much more serious or lively.

After all, Halla Bol cannot be as great as Santoshi's previous The Legend of Bhagat Singh or Khakee but still can be accepted as useful to the audiences. This is not for them those who simply watch movies for timepass, leisure or fun...but for them those who want to view the world's real happenings inside a movie. So it's upto audiences to consider it great or junk.

I can rate it 7 out of 10.

Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na
(2008)

Nothing special
As much I expected this movie to be a heart-touching, it seemed to be below that. I don't care those who are reading my comment may rate or not. But I only bother to get a better movie next time from Imraan Khan. Alright, the story, direction and cinematography might be appreciable but the script in some way invisibly lacks, and which bored me. I had to say, Imraan has a lot to improve his facial expressions as according to the story and dialogues. Since this is his debut movie, it can be still considerable to accept and enjoy the movie. Besides, Genelia who has been working with cameras and directors for a long time back, she still looks immatured in her roles and body movements. And these are what audiences need to count in time of watching a movie.

But Abbas Tyrewala has done what we people expected from him. But still his courses to become a reputed director have not been completed. Now let me come to Sohail Khan, who displeased me a lot by his role as well his performances. Once upon a time I liked his no-nonsense and serious role which he presented us. But sadly, people didn't take him seriously. So thereby he has to form a new image. But in my point of view, here in this JTYJN I found him as if he is following Sallu's olden styles again. His character and body languages, comedies and speaking in JNYJT seems like Sallu is back again in the form of Sohail.

What is this??? He has no other images to prepare in film industry other than olden Sallu dada? I waited very eagerly to watch this movie just to see Sohail again after a long time, but it really displeased me by his role. OK, might be the script for his role is like that, but why the hell he accepted this offer? I bet to all, if he continues with Sallu's olden footsteps, he will soon be ignored by the audiences, and be categorised as Bobby Deol is.

Plus, the story has nothing new but olden stories with many young faces. No doubt it is fresh, but what is extraordinary here to become a blockbuster? Well. "all Aamir owns" and this is the only reason.

Tashan
(2008)

Tashan = Yash Raj Film's worst movie in Bollywood
Tashan - the title itself explains the nature of the movie.

This type of movies are actually made for flop. What a shame that Yash Raj Films produces such movies those are worthless than C-grade movies. Or even some C-grade movies have better and pleasing story than Tashan. The much hyped and over-confidently promoted Tashan poorly bombed at the box-office which it certainly deserved.

In my view, this is the worst movie ever made from honourable Yash Raj Films' banner. How come they handled such a heavy project to new Vijay Krishna Acharya who has no actual sense of making action flick? He tried to imitate Sanjay Gadhvi's ways of making like Dhoom but he suffered at last. The action scenes are more like than comics or cartoon movies made for exhausting the audiences.

The story also loses in its meaning and substances to tenderly win the audiences' hearts. In most scenes Anil Kapoor reminds me of southern Tamil star Rajnikant in his body languages and wordly expressions. I am not a fan of neither Saif nor Akshay, but the award of Kareena should have finally gone to Saif''s hand instead of Akshay. Just from the starting point I expected of it, but at the end it displeased me with the climax truth. Saif is the main behind the whole adventure, while Akshay joins in the midst. In any movie, the final should be judged with the whole characters of the entire story and the award or say reward should be given to the one who deserves credit. And Tashan loses in this way, and unexpectedly failed to become a hit.

Akshay's has nothing new to show off his comedian talent here but still reminds of his previous movies. He seriously need to form a new image to his fans that would impress them again and again. In between Saif did a great job in Race, and now he returned again in his hilarious nature through this movie. But he has fully developed himself in the acting field. And last but not the least about Kareena. She looks really hot with bikini dress of which some complain as she became too lean. But I myself don't think so, instead she became slim. Yes slim!!! it is a good factor for a female to attract the major people (or say, male). Beside them it is nice that Saif's son Ibrahim appears in the beginning & last as young Saif. I hope now he too will lean forward in target of making acting as his career.

Those who like this Tashan they are either mentally immatured or still want to go back to childhood, or say want to be admitted in an asylum. Thumbs down to debutante director Vijay Krishna Acharya who mishandled the project offered by Yash Raj Films. In future he should experiment and study the script minimum of 5 years before going into practical directions.

Sorry, I don't like to rate good stars to this type of junk movies.

Race
(2008)

Revival of Saif
Firstly take note that - Race is not a movie made for them those who power on the DVD player then insert the disc in it, and watch it till they feel asleep. This is made for them those who want to use their inner intelligence and sharp-brain to understand actually what is going on in between every roles. Don't rate this comment those who don't like Hindi thrillers.

I find it hard to believe even after fourth time watching Race that how Saif performed a deadly serious role as Ranvir Singh. In his first offer with director duo Abbas-Mustan he proved it great. So far his roles were mostly prepared for comedian purposes like in Hum Tum, Dil Chahta Hai or Salaam Namaste, but here he really proved that now he is matured as an actor by performing a serious, no nonsense and one-word guy's role.

Personally I like to watch movies made by Abbas-Mustan for their sense of making thrillers in Bollywood, and I cannot throw away Race apart from my mind. The story has some worth seeing twists which are surprisingly enjoyable. In funny and hilarious sections Akshaya and Anil own their credits. Although this is Akshaya's second negative character under the project of Abbas-Mustan after Humraaz, his role has enough importance in moving forward of the movie. Anil's role as a fruit-eater inspector Robert D' Costa (RD) makes a good sense of humour with his riddling but indicative words. For sometimes it is confusing whether RD is a negative or positive character, but it becomes clear only at the final ending part.

For the three glamor queens Sonia, Sophia and Mini (Bipasha, Katrina and Sameera), they have no much ability to handle the story since it is mainly controlled by the male leads, and focus goes on and on waiting to reveal the hidden truths. Ooops!!! after a long break from director duo, Johny Lever again appears in front of the camera for five minute, but with nothing special. Same is to Dilip Tahil who is the closest rival of Ranvir in horse racing business.

If we judge Race with proper sense there are bound to arise numerous goofs and faults in the whole set of the movie, anyway it's just made for entertainment. One most important goof I noticed is when Ranvir and Sophia goes to Capetown for some official purposes, but Rajiv also moves there and secretly attends an appointment in the marriage bureau along with Sophia (Katrina). But question is - does not Sonia (Bipasha) notice when Rajiv is not around her?

For Akshaya and Katrina's fans Race might be flop, while for Saif and Bipasha's fans it might be a super-hit. This is generally how a movie is rated by audiences. They don't like their favourite actors/actresses to get defeated in the climax, but if it happens so they will consider it worthless or super-flop. In truth a movie is considered successful mostly through the process of business profit --> large audiences = large earning. If you check weekly in the websites on the movie which is doing good businesses, it will be finally declared as hit, sometimes super-hit (or blockbuster) if the businesses run better than expected.

Finally, I like the movie only just due to Saif's new revival role of serious Ranvir Singh, and Akshaya Khanna's negative but interesting role as step brother Rajiv Singh.

Auzaar
(1997)

Suraj + Yash = Friendhsip Forever
Before stepping into acting this was Sohail's first directorial movie. But it did flop with an immature story, old plots and over-action scenes. Yes though it can be considered as movie for commercial purposes but many bugs and small mistakes are visible while watching it. From Anu Malik's side it was a good effort to present good and ear-relaxing music. That's why the songs are not that negligible, and are worth listening. Exceptional to one song 'Dil Le Lena' which he entirely copied from Macarena by Los Del Rio.

I like Auzaar only for the story of Suraj (Salman) and Yash (Sanjay) who are good friends and can do anything for their strong friendship sake. Only difference is that Suraj is from a village and Yash is from a rich (criminal) father. Also Yash has a girlfriend Prathna (shilpa), while Suraj remains bachelor till the end of the movie. Suddenly in between their friendship story Suraj leaves for his village. He returns with a secret mission and hiding his identity from all. What is that secret mission and his identity?

The movie can be considered as 'zabardast masaladar' but again with too much 'masala' also spoils the recipe. Such is the case with Auzaar. Only tasty while watching it, but forget after it gets end. Sometimes it's hard to digest. Paresh Rawal is always evergreen for every role he is offered, and here also it is not exceptional. His role as Yash's handicapped father is excellent, which proves that he is fit for every role beside comedian.

A great regret for Sohail is that his first directorial debut went in vain without success. He improved better with his second movie Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya which was somewhat delicious.

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke
(2001)

Want to see Salman in a cool and serious role? Catch this...
After a love triangle story in Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega these 3 stars were again chosen in this controversial flick. The film would have been considered as hit if there was not a controversy with the production values from Bharat Shah. Here director duo Abbas-Mustan did a very different and unique job as compared with their previous and after directorial ventures. They are considered as thriller makers of Bollywood. But in this CCCC they proved that they can equally handle to make a romantic family drama. Hardly there is a single action scene when Preity was being raped by Salman's colleague in her apartment, Salman slapped him.

The movie has almost all the standards and ingredients like song, story, casting, performances etc. which are required to make a movie hit. But of course for Salman's fan this was something a surprise gift from him. Why? Because for so long he has been doing roles where he has a scene to show his open body and dance la-la-la all around. His role as a rich young businessman who has no-nonsense nature and of normal attitude is really impressive. After all Madhubala, a prostitute role performed by Preity is amazing. Later when she too turns out thoughtful about her life she deserve proper attention. Her facial expressions and body language become more attractive, and focus mainly goes to her. Her previous role as a pregnant woman in Kya Kehna was not that heart-touching as it is here. Of course, this can be termed as improvement. Then Priya, a very innocent and helpless wife of Raj who only depends on him for a better result. She has nothing powerful influence in the story as the main ingredients are in the hands of Preity.

Finally, the main point of the story which is something rare and unique in itself. In real world of this age it is not totally impossible to happen such step of searching for a surrogate mother. Perhaps, many are happening in this large world where these are kept secret. And in this way the scriptwriter of CCCC has uncovered a hidden truth which is taking place in others daily lives. But still then it is a doubt.

Naqaab
(2007)

A Garbage disguised in Thriller
Right before watching Naqaab I understood that if I have ever to catch this Abbas-Mustan thriller that would be only for newly introduced Urvashi Sharma. Beside this I find no other reasons to watch. Every time I see Urvashi I remember of Diana Rigg, the Bond girl of 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service opposite George Lazenby. She is new but surprisingly she did help to flash the camera as a new battery. Although the movie was made colourfully it hardly puts any positive colour to our heart, due to such an over-twisting plot.

This is the third nonsense directorial presentation from director duo Abbas-Mustan after Daraar and Badshah. After watching a single time I got fed up with the movie and hope not to repeat it watching again. So far they have used Bobby Deol with better prospects in their previous thrillers - Soldier, Ajnabee and Humraaz, but here they all put him under the mud. Although his role has a bit tragedy here but it fails to load back in memory after the movie reaches its end. But the romantic humours between Akshaya and Urvashi are really hilarious and worth watching. Quiet something they can form a good pair if mechanized correctly.

I had to say once again if there is any reason to watch Naqaab, that is Urvashi Sharma. She performed her first role with full confident, and I noticed nothing weaknesses in her acting as well as screen-presence. I beg to Abbas-Mustan to cast her in future again in their next upcoming projects with good story, casting and production.

Second in Command
(2006)

"COMMAND" failed to make a Blockbuster
Though I fully enjoyed SIC while watching it is difficult to give a good *star for this movie. I like Van Damme for his no nonsense and solid facial expression styles, and a must choice is for his action displays. I consider him one of the action stars who use their bodies other than guns and knives. This is what his specific identity for action movies. SIC is not an unique or striking movie but just satisfies your hunger to watch out. One thing I am disappointed with SIC is the quality of the picture or screen which is really very very poor in standard as compared to its sound. It fails to match parallel with the story or standard body movements of the actors. Which is why it failed to reach near major audiences.

The story has a bit good taste and to thrill the audiences as long as it is unfinished, but reaching on the last scene it's hard to remember. Yes, as I said it made me to focus and enjoy throughout the movie, but still it lacked some more tastes. After the half of the movie it takes to concentrate on Samuel Keenan's (Van Damme) rank among the security forces when his rivalry with CIA operative Frank Gaines came into existence. He was made one step down in his position under Cpt. Baldwin. And this ignites about to proceed forward of the story. I regret Van Damme is growing old and so he has to limit his action sequences which is a deep depressive matter. Unlike his old hits like Timecop, Hard Target, Double Team, Maximum Risk, Derailed etc. here he has less action shots to present for the audiences. Still then there are also few action scenes which remind all his old hits, and make us to relax.

Finally, I prefer others to watch SIC at least once without hesitation, but you should not expect much to get from Van Damme.

Sunday
(2008)

Watch "Sunday" only on Sunday when you are Free
I hardly criticize any movie, and this is one of them. Although Sunday is not exactly a comedy but it's hilarious scenes are not that impressive, but instead irritating and boring. Of course Rohit has his own methods and ideas of making a comedy movie, but in the sense that I am an audience - I cannot remark him positively like Priyadarshan or David Dhawan. The reason is that whenever I sit to watch either Dhawan or Priyadarshan's comedy movie I get exhausted of laughing and sometimes I need to drink water to feel free again. Whereas for Rohit Shetty's comedies, instead of getting laughed I get irritated. His previous comedy Golmaal was more useless with an absence of proper subject. There all the characters seemed stereotypically like dummies. This time it has a little bit of subject, still then it really fails to touch (or win) the heart.

In the beginning I considered and was shocked seeing Ajay Devgan as a corrupted ACP, but later for her love's sake he avoids it and so I could breathe freely. The title of the movie also seems too odd, although it is based on the story. Rohit has a good understanding with Ajay for which he has taken him even in his third venture after Zameen and Golmaal. After watching Sunday one more thing I cannot determine in Bollywood - why they make all the action scenes like using robots in place of human being? Therefore, it is 50 years backward from Hollywood.

Rohit Shetty is much advanced and unique in making action and thriller movies rather than comedies which he did in his debut Zameen. It was superbly made with a true subject on terrorism and its problems with Kashmir and Pakistan. That's why I cannot imagine as Sunday is made by Rohit Shetty again, because it is too far in standard and maturity as compared to Zameen. I could only be impressed by some cases where the true nature of corrupted police and politicians (in climax) are explained with good examples. The chemistry between matured Ajay and childish typed Ayesha is really worse, even her case with John Abraham in No Smoking. She looks like their younger sister and not girlfriend. Undoubtedly I really give a good *star to Arshad Warshi and Irfan Khan for their every step improvements in performing comedian role. In others' cases I have nothing to point out. That's it!!!

Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha

Love Must Happen Between Them
I have been watching this movie continuously from the time it released, but never felt bored yet. So I will rate this movie as Perfect 10**********. Why so? Because personally I never found a single mistake in any part of the whole movie but only getting well entertained every time I watch it. We can consider this movie neither comedy, nor action, nor romantic; but ultimately a total combination of all these three ingredients. So far I found only two movies of Ajay favorite in romantic stories, first is this one and second Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Earlier Ajay was considered as an 'action star' but with this single movie he proved it wrong. Therefore surprisingly this movie made a good turning point in his career.

Right from the beginning to the end the story twists, scenes, camera angles, dialogues, facial expressions, body languages etc. were used perfectly under the direction of Anees Bazmee. I wonder for the work of Anees, how he made this superb movie after his previous big flop Hulchul of which also Ajay and Kajol were the main cast. I guess he improved better after realizing the weaknesses in Hulchul. In some parts I get deeply tired of laughing the hilarious scenes of Ajay, Kajol and Om Puri. Here Ajay did his best by trying to become a comedian rather than serious roles and he succeeded.

By now, this is up-to-date Ajay-Kajol's best paired movie. Though they acted together in several movies before and after this hit like Hulchul, Gundaraaj, Ishq, Dil Kya Kare and Raju Chacha those could not capture the heart of the audiences (except Ishq).

Untamed Heart
(1993)

What is a 'HEART' made for?
I regret of not watching it in the early period of 90's when it was released. Just after 15 years I got to watch this seemingly heart-touching movie. 'Untamed Heart' is not like a normal love story, its just a story between innocent Adam (Slater) and an unlucky waitress Caroline (Marisa). Adam wishes to live a normal life and use his heart as usual people. But he knows that he has a cardiac problem (considering his heart is of 'baboon'), which made him to stay far away from the people around him. The people hardly care him for his unusual behaviors and characteristics, and all these make Adam to live a lonely life. He works in the same restaurant where Caroline does a routine job as a waitress. But his duty is washing dishes and throwing the garbages from the kitchen. He secretly admires Caroline but doesn't dare to express it. Once late at a night when Caroline was attempted to be raped by two strangers, he got a chance to save her life. This made increase their chemistry of love for one another. Surprisingly, he loves Caroline only with his mind and soul, and not with his heart.

Excellent job from Slater, which I never expected from him before watching this over-the-top and sorrowful love story. Earlier to this I just considered him to be an actor born for the generation of action and fighting. He really surprised me after watching this.And I had nothing to say about Marisa as I knew well she is perfectly suited for a better role. Whatever I will mention here will be incomplete about her. She is always awesome. So better to leave it aside.

I can imagine how awful it would have been if I had the same conditions as Adam has in this movie. After all, I will keep this movie in evergreen top 10 romantic stories of my life, as it convinced and taught me another definition of 'heart' and 'what it is made for'.

Speed
(2007)

Don't 'Speed' up instead it will waste your time
Actually, I am not narrating the main plot in this comment but with just 2-3 sentences I can make it a spoiler. OK here are these-

Speed is just a 85% conversion of Hollywood flick Cellular into Bollywood by using the software Vikram Bhatt. Title has no match with the story, only it goes in the thriller direction. Just that!! It doesn't deserve even a single star for its imitation, imperfect casting, poor standard and predictable story. Undoubtedly now I can say that Viram Bhatt is slowly vanishing away from his director status as no any matured audience will appreciate his recent works including this. Beside him, Aftab Shivdasani too making his outlook as cartoon-comic type. Who knows how long will he last in the film industry more? Sometimes the standard in the performances and cinematography look like lower than a C-grade movie. But most supportive role was played by Zayed Khan which was somewhat identical with Chris Evan's role as Ryan in Cellular. With innocent face Sanjay Suri has no contribution in the movie as he has nothing to impress. That's why those who have already watched Cellular I advise you never to waste your time again with this imitation sack.

No Smoking
(2007)

BE ALERT - Cigarette Smoking is Really Injurious to Anyone's Health
I don't wish to come to any point of the story as it is completely twisting and tangling in its storyline. But must to mention is the character of a chain smoker who cares nothing and nobody around his life. K is a chain smoker who hardly concentrates on others words and requests, but considers himself smart, superior, independent and powerful. In some sense he suffers from superiority complex. These drive him to many troubles and mishaps in his regular lifestyle. His double played wife Anjali/Honey intends to quit his smoking habit, but fails to do so. His life becomes more miserable after his appointment with Baba Sealdahwale who is mysteriously an expert to treat after people like K. That's it!

It is basically considered as a dark and a neo-noir type movie, which is somehow different from common commercial types. Well, it may posses a good message towards the people about the consequences and negative affects of smoking, but a question is that if audiences (people) cannot understand the meaning how would they take it heartily? I am saying this because after watching it in multiplex I too couldn't understand what exactly this movie trying to give the audiences. I watched it again second time alone in my laptop deep at night to come clearer with the meanings. The only conclusion I could draw is it's actually made for an experiment. In the experiment Kashyap did his best possible duty, but lacking in contents which are the main ingredients for giving taste to the audiences.

In some moments it reminds me of John in Taxi No. 9211 where he used some similar body languages and emotions. It was with Nana Patekar, and this time its with Paresh Rawal. Ultimately in both cases John becomes a loser as well a learner. In the first half hour its entertaining like a comedy, but unexpectedly turns to disappointment when he is being harassed by Baba Sealdahwale's team. I need to appreciate the movie for it's real like environmental scenes and shots, as well its main keyword subject – smoking. But at this Decade of Behavior (2000-2010) no one would like to care for this type of subjective (reflective) movies or say experimental. They want entertainment with good heart touching and interesting story, which are missing here. After all audiences do not want irritating plot lines, instead they demand fulfillment and satisfying results.
