The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson
(1990)

"Take what you've got and fly with it."
I think it's safe to say that this is perhaps the last great Muppet work of art that exists. In this television special the Muppets pay tribute to the Muppet Man and my life-long mentor and inspiration, Jim Henson. For anyone who remembers the old Muppets and for anyone who considers themselves a true Muppet fan, you can't miss this. Look for it to buy on E-bay.

Jim Henson died in May of 1990, this aired in November of the same year. It must have truly been the hardest thing for his friends to do and I think that's what makes it work. The emotion is real.

Some people thik it's good that there are people who can continue to produce Muppet Films, but if you've seen these new films you've no doubt felt the loss of a great presence. The Muppets have never been the same since. And never will. So enjoy them, for the last time, as they were in this special. I know I do.

Austin Powers in Goldmember
(2002)

Immensely funny yet not without faults
So you're in the theater as the movie begins and you're blown away by what appears to be an all out Austin action adventure. In the back of your head you know that's not the style of the films prior, so you keep an eye out for a usual gag. Then you realize you've been hoaxed! Don't know what I mean? See it for yourself! It's one of the funniest moments in the movie and I'd like to preserve that for you.

"Goldmember" is just as funny if not funnier than "The Spy Who Shagged Me" mainly because it slaps you with jokes at unexpected moments as well as the expected ones! The jokes don't let you down and I guarantee you will laugh. What is a little shabby though is the story line. Seems the movie wanted to hit your funny bone more than your thirst for knowledge of the Austin Powers world.

So while it's storyline isn't quite gold, the comedy's what keeps it getting sold!

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
(2002)

If at first you don't succeed.
I'll try to be brief. As an avid Star Wars fan for years I've always been gun-ho to soak up more and more of possibly the biggest franchise to date. However these new films are like trying to recreate a moment in your life. Like taking your grown children to the place you took them when they were little and expecting the same type of trip with the same magic.

Episode One was quite possibly the biggest disappointment to the Star Wars universe and Lucas knows it. He's trying to get better. I believe I read in Time Magazine that his response was something like he hadn't directed a film in years. Well, no offense Mr. Lucas, but you never did know how to direct. A New Hope was nothing compared to Empire and Jedi. Why? Cause Lucas directed A New Hope but not the others. Same with these new films. The problem is in the director, not the storyline per say.

My biggest beef about both Phantom Menace and Clones is that there's way too much CGI. What made the orginals so good was because they looked so real. Why? Because they were actually real things. They may have been puppets but they were a real thing. Slight hand movements gave them more emotion than a billion digital effects. It's what made them ALIVE to us.

Clones is getting back on track to the storyline. (Which is good) But it's still too fake. Way to fake. And that love scene was a joke. Just cause it's a film aimed at 13 year old boys doesn't mean it can't have meaning. I saw more love in Disney's Beauty and the Beast!

I hope Episode 3 is better. Maybe since James Earl Jones is coming back to voice Vader things will look up for it.

Bottom line, wait for it to be on video or televsion to see it.
