Drums of Fate (1923)
The 42 Year Old Noble Johnson
10 May 2002
Until the 42 year old Noble Johnson appeared in Cecil B. DeMille's 'The Ten Commandments', he represented a marginalized community in local projects such as 'Drums of Fate'. He never received the same recognition as Chaplin, but was a founding father in entertainment.

The 41 Year Old Noble Johnson

I am beginning to like the Noble Johnson collection of films even though this particular one was not that entertaining. He represented a marginalized community when Chaplin was on the scene and set up his own production company.

The 40 Year Old Noble Johnson

I am actually growing to like this guy, Noble Johnson. Although he never achieved the same level of popularity as Chaplin, he was a marginalized actor in dull films such as 'Serenade'. There are no redeeming features about this film, but good to see Johnson on the scene.

The 40 Year Old Noble Johnson

This was the turning point in the life of the 40 year old Noble Johnson. Having emerged as the marginalized community's answer to Charles Chaplin as an actor, his talents were enlisted by Rudolph Valentino in the film prior to this.

The 39 Year Old Noble Johnson

Although this film was a bit dull, the 39 year old Noble Johnson sprang into the silent 20's as the marginalized community's answer to Charles Chaplin as an actor, and D.W. Griffith as a producer. So much so, Cecil B. DeMille enlisted his talents for 'The Ten Commandments'.

This film did not grab my attention in the same way that the presence of the 39 year old Noble Johnson in silent Hollywood did. Johnson was the marginalized communities answer to Charles Chaplin who also went on to set up his own production company.

The 36 Year Old Noble Johnson
1 May 2002
Although this film was not inspiring, the 36 year old Noble Johnson took a leaf out of D.W. Griffith's book by founding his own production company titled Lincoln Motion Picture Company to produce his own films. He never received the same recognition as Chaplin, but was a pioneer none the less.

Although this particularly film was not inspiring, I found watching the 36 year old Noble Johnson in silent Hollywood inspiring. He was an answer to Charlie Chaplin by the marginalized community, and like D.W. Griffith, he set up his own production company.

The exciting 36 year old Noble Johnson appeared in this dull film to rival Charles Chaplin. When he eventually went on to set up his own production company, he began to rival Cecil B. DeMille and D.W. Griffith. It's a pity Johnson wasn't more popular than he was.

Although I didn't enjoy this particular film, I'm actually becoming a fan of the 36 year old Noble Johnson. He was a contemporary of Charles Chaplin, and flew the banner for the marginalized community. He would eventually set up his own production company.

Noble Johnson's Screen Debut
25 April 2002
The 34 year old Noble Johnson made his screen debut in this film which was not well known, but was an attempt to rival Charles Chaplin as an actor. This film is not entertaining by any means, but it enabled Johnson to set up his own production company.

The 38 Year Old Burt Lancaster
25 April 2002
An impressive 38 year old Burt Lancaster appears in this mediocre film. He was a perfectionist when it came to working with ambitious amateurs who had more aspiration than talent. Although there is no one film that I like about Lancaster, he was impressive at 38.

The 36 year old Noble Johnson continued his acting career by acting in this film, 'Fighting for Love' which did not interest me at all. The fact that he was around inspired me because he rivaled Charles Chaplin, and then went on to set up his own production company.

After making his screen debut at the age of 34, Noble Johnson joined forces with Clarence Brooks to make this film. Although it is not a well known film, it was their answer to Cecil B. DeMille, D.W. Griffith and Charles Chaplin.

The 28 Year Old Mack Sennett

The 28 year old Mack Sennett teamed up with D.W. Griffith to act in this dull film titled 'The Sculptor's Nightmare', before they went off to write and direct their own projects. The 33 year old Griffith merely gained experience as an actor in this film.

The 28 year old Mack Sennett followed D.W. Griffith by acting in films like 'Thompson's Night Out' before going on to write and direct their own projects. This particularly was dull and tacky, but it enabled Sennett to pad out his c.v.

The 28 year old Mack Sennett padded out his c.v. and paid his bills by acting in this short film titled 'The King's Messenger'. It was a dull and tacky like the rest of the films that he made this year, but like D.W. Griffith, he went on to write and direct his own projects.

The 24 Year Old Tony Curtis

The 24 year old Tony Curtis began to form an alliance with Janet Leigh in this film which would take them through the 1950's. Although there was no plot to this documentary, it was the landmark for their alliance. Frankly, I thought they made a good couple.

The 25 year old Tony Curtis went on to act alongside Rock Hudson and James Stewart in films like 'Winchester 73' and 'I Was A Shoplifter' in 1950. Although this film was dull, Curtis was part of a stock of actors whose close friends included Hudson and Stewart.

As a stock actor, the 25 year old Tony Curtis appeared in a series of films like 'Francis' which were dull and tacky. It served to pad out his c.v. and pay his bills because his audience thought he was too good looking to be doing a proper job.

Calamity Jane (1953)
The 29 Year Old Doris Day
15 April 2002
The quintessential American female hero. Calamity Jane has been manufactured to be what Mary Seacole is to Jamaica. This is a significant role for the 29 year old Doris Day that placed her alongside of Howard Keel. Not a collectors item, but certainly watchable.

After acting with Kirk Douglas in 'Man with a Horn', the 26 year old Doris Day got to act alongside of Virginia Mayo in this film that shot her into the 1950's. Although I thought this film was dull, it did represent that she was on her way up.

The 24 Year Old Dorothy Dandridge

After a two year absence from acting in films, the 24 year old Dorothy Dandridge acted in 'Ebony Parade' with Count Bassie, and for the first time, I began to feel that Dandridge had experienced some difficulties. She was just like the rest of us mortals.

The struggling 28 year old Dorothy Dandridge continued to pad out her c.v. and pay her bills by acting in this dull film. In the past, I would have said that she was lucky to be offered a role in films at her age, but now I can see that she suffered for her art.

Having already achieved success in 1948 with 'The Champion', Kirk Douglas launched himself into the 50's with 'Young Man with a Horn' alongside Lauren Bacall and the 26 year old Doris Day. It was heralded the eastern 1950's movies that was moving away from mainstream films.
