The Harbinger
(2022)

A Great Film For People Who Watched It
Yes it's another "creepy kid film" but it's different from what you might expect. It's not another possession or exorcism movie. Though there may be some minor story inconsistencies - perhaps this should be the extended cut and there should be a shorter cut - but for those who watched all the way through this was actually a very clever take on the film and how it evolved.

I'm not sure why so much negativity. Sure Maddy does well as the creepy daughter and it mirrors her strong supporting role in "The Black Phone" but there are other characters and performances to consider - from the father to his closest neighbor to Satan himself. This movie does go into depth and modern horror fans do not seem to like that.

Overall this was a great film and deserves, at minimum, an 8/10 overall - I am rating it 9/10 due to a few minor story inconsistencies.

Spare Parts
(2020)

Girl Blood Sport meets Mad Max
An awesome movie blending the cult/gore elements with the apocalyptic/punk culture of Mad Max. Great visuals, great fights, and great story. Recommended to all fight film fans!

Adolescence
(2018)

Unintentional prequel to " Nanny Cam," Long, drawn out drama
India Eisley has been known mainly for playing psycho nymphs in horror films and in some dramas, usually with the end result not so satisfying to her characters.

Although directed by a woman, it's not reflective of the #MeToo movement. I feel there's too much time given to showing the mean as strong and overcoming their weaknesses yet leaving the women to struggle with theirs.

Released too late after I Am the Night, which would have saved this film. Adam comes off as a modern Scott Pilgrim and acts alot like Micheal Cera. I'm uncertain if all of the events happen in one weekend; I feel there was a lot cut.

Very thin story. India fans will notice her typical fare in this one - chap-lipped, anorexic sickly pale gloomy and awkward girl with the occasinal nip slips but in an artsy fashion, playing a teen girl despite being an adult herself.

The message is OK because it feels unfinished. I feel you can honestly finish India's character, Alice's story by watching her Lifetime film, "Nanny Cam."

I'm sorry I waited a year for this to be released and only to VOD/streaming for that matter.

Three stars because it tried to deliver a somewhat positive message while also leaving a somber one.

A couple F-bombs, a few very small sex scenes, and few nip-slips, in artsy fashion.

Lady Bloodfight
(2016)

Bloodport with women... and it's not bad
Early on the film cast Asian stars like Maggie Q and called itself Lady Bloodsport. That would have been a great movie but it didn't come as planned.

However, Lady Bloodfight, where Bloodfight like Bloodsport pretty much used the same villain, isn't a bad movie. It's different in many ways from either Bloodsport or Bloodfight as it contains some form of magic and is setup differently. The Minute fights are pretty formulaic in comparison to Bloodsport but twists come that makes it different.

The fighting is more modernized yet the fight choreography could use work. Amy Johnston's stunts are superb as always and many of the girls, including her, fight scantily clad. The fights are brutal and despite being much more low budget than Bloodsport the production values are good.

At the time of this writing, Lady Bloodfight, released only to Sweden is sold out but an American release is forthcoming.

Except for fans of the GIRLFIGHT genre, I don't see this appealing to the American martial arts audience, which is sadly misogynist against female fighting. 9/10.

For a more brutal yet clothed Amy Johnston's see Female Fight Club.

Blood Sombrero
(2016)

Every bit of awesome!
You have to take indie movies what they are, indie, and look past production values. If you don't you'll never appreciate them or most mainstream films, which I hate to tell you aren't perfect by any means. This film has tons of gore and hot women in it. There are even girl fights on top of mixed fights. It centers around a very strong female lead. At first I thought was a film made by Mexicans but I was wrong. It does have fantastic elements of Satanism that might deter some people away but the strong female lead and the fact it's a horror with awesome fight scenes should keep people's interest. If not the film has a lot of attractive strippers that definitely make this film a top choice on your exploitation collection. The cover may look unattractive and too amateur but I assure you will not be disappointed after you watch it. Just make sure you really do appreciate exploitation horror, otherwise you probably should look the other way. This film doesn't deserve the poor reviews it has garnered.

Death Game
(1996)

Cube meets Mortal Kombat: Cyberpunk style
In a post-apocalyptic LA, several teenagers become missing. A cop must save her, finding out there is much more in store for him. The cop, along with friends he's made along the way, finds himself trapped in the DeathDrome - an old plant devoted to a death trap where the only way out is battling to the death against two humanoids.

It's a fun-filled cyberpunk fight film with decent action for a B film and completely ahead of its time (the fights are filmed to an audience and are a lot like the "reality" genre of today, but in film format). The partial nudity and sex scene add erotica New Horizons was known for in the day. The makeup is often a little gimmicky but the lighting and camera quality make up for it. The film is setup as a futuristic gladiator game with reminisce of the ancient Romans (vixens, the elite, and the thumbs-up and thumbs-down gesture to signal life or death. Overall, I recommend this film as it adds uniqueness to the fight genre with its mix of sci-fi elements.

Its relation to Mortal Kombat:

This film pays homage to Mortal Kombat in these ways:

  • The DeathDrome is located in the outskirts of LA, like Outworld. - The tournament master is an elderly man. - The tournament master uses the term, "mortal combat." - Centaurians are the name given to the "police" of this outworld. - The cop is a spin-off of Jax. - Hawk, the thug, is a spin-off of Kano. - The vixens beauty is reminiscence of the MK babes. - The people in the Deathdrome are trapped, especially the humanoids, and are forced to fight their way to freedom. - The music is techno and this film even has its own theme song, which is cheesy like the Power Rangers and VR Troopers themes.

The Next Three Days
(2010)

Russell Crowe delivers and does not disappoint...
This film explores the current events of people wrongly convicted, yet it also explores jail escape. This film is full of action and suspense and ultimately tests what a man is willing to do to protect his wife's innocence. The ending, which I'll refrain from revealing, was actually a happier one than expected but with a slight twist. This movie comes off a little like a based-on-a-true-story sort and even presents the "black market" and underworld into light. Though the film has some unbelievable moments, like him willing to travel to meet an author who just happens to agree to meet him without hesitation, or how easily the wife was wrongfully convicted of murder, nevertheless, it tests the boundaries mankind when they know the truth in their hearts. This film should not be overlooked for those interested in this type of film.

A Lure: Teen Fight Club
(2010)

Creeper film - WARNING SPOILERS
This movie was nothing short of fun aside from what little humor it had. While the camera and lighting was usually up-scale for an independent film, the content was deplorable.

The plot, simply, a bunch of rednecks kidnap rich high school girls and force them to fight in a shoddy-made ring inside a barn. The creepier part - their teacher is the main organizer of these brutal fights where rich businessmen gamble in the audience. The film consists of about 5 minutes of fighting with the rest involving kidnapping and torturing the girls. This is only a subplot, as the unpublished plot should be an undercover cop poses as a female student to determine why high school girls are found missing. Nevertheless, be forewarned fight movie fans and don't let the title of this movie lure you into something not cool. And the incest jokes are uncalled for and so overused in the independent circuit.

Children of the Corn
(2009)

Pertant information about the actors in gratuitous sex scene and the scene itself...
It is extremely important to remember a couple of tricks used by Hollywood to depict the "fertilization" scene.

1. Jake White and Zita Vass were not underage during the shoot of the scene. It is highly illegal to even depict such acts by teenagers by modern law and future plans would make this scene illegal because they were depicting teenagers. Internet sources are revealing Zita to now be about 20 years old - this movie was filmed in 2008, she'd been either 18 or 19. (I haven't been able to find Jake's age.) 2. Notice the cutaways from the scene to the other kids? You never even seen them "superimposed" or mixed in with the gratuitous scene once nudity is present. You are simply watching several locations being shot as if they were happening at the same time - the church scene and the altar scene.

There, any references to this scene being performed by actual teens is erroneous.

This show was cancelled but has appeared on other networks, namely the Reality TV Network on DishTV, for example, years after its untimely demise.

Features:

  • The hosts lost site of their role in the last episodes but revived themselves in the end. - Extremely dangerous stunts that focus on the concept of death and other morbid elements.

Cons:

  • You can't expect anyone to take a show on alternative lifestyles seriously if it appears on the SciFi channel, especially before a show like "Tripping the Rift," which was a modernized version of several failed shows before it, like DuckMan, a show on USA (which owns SciFi) from the 90s. - If you are the hosts and do not know what you're doing, how are you qualified to be in such positions?
