Shrunken Heads
(1994)

Strongly Recommended - No Spoilers
I will assume those reading already know the plot or do not want to know it before watching. This is one of the more imaginative B-movies around. Elfman does not color inside the lines. It starts off as so many movies do, with the little guy standing up to the big ones, but it veers drastically from the standard formula in a quite refreshing way. Instead of rehashing the plot of countless other stories, SH takes cookie-cutter characters out of the cookie-cutter story and finds an entirely different way for its heroes to triumph.

I highly recommend SH for anyone who is tired of traditional 'underdog' movies and wants to see something truly imaginative. Skip it if you need high-budget special effects to assist your imagination or if you are too politically correct to think for yourself.

Modern Vampires
(1998)

For mature adults who don't take things too seriously.
A tale about the relationships between vampires in LA. It is full of violence, gore and sexual situations and therefore is only suitable for mature adults. But I highly recommend it to such adults. It is a riot. There is no trace of political correctness in this film, for which I am grateful. The film takes chances and by doing so delivers a refreshing vampire tale unlike any other I have seen. The film almost has you liking and siding with the vampires until you remember that they delight in terrorizing humans. The alliance between Van Helsing and the gang members is as amusing as the vampires themselves. The characters and plot are not mainstream Hollywood. It should only be watched by those seeking a hilarious, original film. Those who have no sense of humor, go rent "Interview" again.
