Mystic Christmas
(2023)

Missing / incomplete information
I enjoyed the movie as a decent "time pass". I liked Jessy Schram in the role of Juniper who I know from her role of Dr. Hanna Asher in Chicago Med. However I can't figure out who creates the page on this site. I see Shravan Amin being credited in the cast list when he appeared for may be 3 - 4 seconds and said a word of 2. While Brooke, I believe that was the name of the character, who had a fairly decent role and was involved a whole lot more is not mentioned anywhere. Not even in the extended list of "Full Cast and Crew.".

I liked the premise of some missed past connections and history without making a mess of it.

Endeavour: Terminus
(2021)
Episode 3, Season 8

This pertains to eisode 3 of season 8
This particular season the quality of writing has gone practically down the drain. Even within this season it has really worsened from episode 1 to 3. May be you need to go back to the one who originally wrote the early season or that person has simply burned out and can't come up with anything even half way decent. Need to find a new one, desperately.

Line of Duty
(2012)

Makes you think....
Although the initial ratings for this series were low I being interested in UK serials went ahead and watched it all. In the concluding evidence the story took an unexpected turn which makes one wonder. In fact it is quite scary if one thinks about it.

It reminded me of another UK mini series, The Shadow Line. The law enforcement agencies literally get away with murder when they are in collusion with the politicians who in turn are puppets of the corporation and individuals involved in high stake illicit activities at the cost of general public. When one watches the rulings of the highest courts in the US blatantly favoring the ultra rich who own the politicians and similar acts repeating in the UK and elsewhere I really feel sorry for their populace who live under the false premise that their government is of the people, for the people and by the people. The level of mistrust for the empowered entities, and justifiably so, bodes ill for the future.

In final analysis the entire series - excellent in my opinion - should be watched in a single sitting to not lose link.

Deadwater Fell
(2020)

No alternate for David Tennant?
I saw the ratings and that got me interested. Then I saw this dumb actor's name and was practically turned off and wanted to skip. Then the next face I recognised was that of Luca from Good Wife. So I was sold and watched.

Very interesting in spite of a couple of goofs. But I still can't believe the directors hanging on to Tennant after his horrible performance on Broadchurch and that too on both sides of the pond.

In future I am going to avoid him like plague. His facial contortions are horrible and he can't act for nuts. Any other pick and it would have earned one more star.

Chicago Med
(2015)

Interesrting since I get so much advice from the 5 in my family
I like the serial and have followed it for the past 5 seasons. Normally I would not even have bothered to write a review unless I find something really superlative. In this particular case I just wish the producers / directors get rid of 2 ridiculously bad actors and their characters, namely Manning and Halstead. It has become unbearably painful to watch them any more. Haven't seen worse actors with worse expressions. In fact I find acting by different patients in each and every episode 1000 times better. than either of these 2. Unless something changes rather quickly I will just have to stop watching the serial. I find it even more painful since I do relate it to my 1970s time in Chicago and having a sister and several friends who worked as doctors for more than 40 years in Chicago's Cook County Hospital, just off of Eisenhower. .

Liar
(2017)

Unbelievable
I just watched episode 1 and was just a few minutes into the second when I said "Enough bull". I can't believe this even got made! What is it with the current crop of producers? Must they always have mixed race couples? After watching a number of serials one might think that is currently the norm in the English society! If she was to be drugged then why lace his own drink and then change the glass? Kind of stupid. The man has been as good as celibate for almost a decade and suddenly he is desperate and comes all prepared carrying date rape drug. She can't get the charger from the bedroom but leads him there? Offers him wine in stead of tea or coffee when it is supposedly very cold outside? To what extent is the story contrived to be so unbelievable? The The screen writer certainly needs to seek a career elsewhere and so does the producer.

Bastille Day
(2016)

A whole lot better than so called "similar movies'
In spite of poor ratings I simply took a chance at watching this Idris Elba movie. Surprise! Surprise! Then I realised why the movie got low ratings. No Werewolves. No Zombies. No sex. No Blood and gore. No bogus action where the hero is absolutely untouched by 3 - 4 guys shooting at him from 20 - 25 feet with assault rifles. Believe me I could do better. These are the typical requirements of the American viewers. Absolutely and totally plausible and believable. Richard Madden also turned out to be familiar face for me. I really wonder if the others here who rated it low really understood what was going on! May be they left their brains home before entering the cinema house. Matt Damon sucks big time compared to Idris Elba. Overall a very watchable movie.

Scorpion
(2014)

Stupid would be an understatement
Anyone who is more than a novice computer user would find this full of holes. Since when do the aircraft also have control tower software installed ? How powerful was the transmission power of the laptop to simultaneously download the software from the aircraft and transfer it to the LAX control tower? And that too when it was like nowhere near a communication relay device. How powerful were the door speaker magnets to corrupt the normal magnetically extremely well protected hard drive? If they had this kind of strength it would pick up all kinds of iron and steel garbage from the streets. One would also not be able to operate the door lock mechanism. Wonder of wonder would be to see these speakers being installed in the doors. Since when are power surges measured in kilowatts? Does anyone have a clue what 500,000 kilowatts (equal to 500 megawatts) actually means? It would mean like shorting out total output of a medium size power plant. Best part is that after the event everything works normally ! I just hope the producers hire some knowledgeable advisers and pray that the viewers are morons to swallow this entire crap fed to them.

Bottled Life: Nestle's Business with Water
(2012)

Blame the politicians too!
I don't have much to say about the documentary itself but quite a lot about the business.

Here in India we had a big controversy about Coca Cola corporation's water bottling business. In Kerala they extracted so much ground water for their purpose that it created almost drought conditions in the surrounding areas on Kerala.

City of Chennai has had perpetual shortage of potable water. A little while ago a million liters per day desalination plant was installed on the outskirts. The total cost of the process amounted to to a mere US$ 1.00 for 100 liters. What is being sold in the market costs around US$0.20 per 1 liter bottle.

I would most certainly blame the politicians too for granting industrial licenses to big time companies, multinationals and local variety, for this catastrophe. If I had it my way I would grant licenses for setting plants only for bottling desalinated purified water at least located at least 100 miles away from any populated area!

Star-Crossed
(2014)

Full of goofs!
I know the show is targeted at the US viewers but then do the writers expect them to forget what was shown just a week earlier? Some of the things that don't make any sense to me are unbelievable! The Atrians have the technology for space travel, even across solar systems/ galaxies, surviving supposedly eons, but can't do a soft landing? The number of Atrians you see, even surprisingly the Atrian version of mixed earthly races, one would expect them to have come on a troop ship! Wonder how they all fit and survived on the craft they show! The one single phone number that Nox supposedly called from his phone was found to have been sort of driven away at high speed towards the suburbs. Surprisingly later it was located in the store room in a haversack, and that too switched on AND unattended? Whoever it belonged to must be a fool! The supposedly six year old girl grows up to look like a 20-22 year old in 10 years? The Atrian kid surely looks no more than 4 years old yet he too grows up to look like an 20 year old in 10 years. I can go on and point out a whole lot more small ones but then I have to stop somewhere.

The Daily Show: Timothy Geithner
(2014)
Episode 109, Season 19

Jason Jones is an ass
What I was really offended by was behavious of Jason Jones. His name suggests that he is of English origin. It would help to learn the language of his mother country. He could also do with getting earwax removed. If he thinks that "chit" sounds like "shit" he really needs to get his head examined. I know from first hand experience that Americans do not speak English hut a variation of of it which royally screws up the pronunciations of the English language. Why speak of only English language, ALL European languages. The speaker of the house spells his name Boehner. This very definitely is of Germanic origin . Ask any German how you say it. Certainly not as it sounds, like Bayner ! But then this is true of all foreign names. They pick the names for their towns and streets from the world map but do not bother to adopt in its entirely. Just one example is Devon in north Chicago.

It would behoove Jon Stewart to have his sidekicks learn more about the country they are visiting or reporting on before making fun of it. Better still send them back to school to learn English.

Common Law
(2012)

Brilliant show
I must say I was thoroughly disappointed that it was canceled after a single season. What I actually found very strange was the fact that even after all the episodes had aired, here on IMDb it still said - voting starts after broadcast ! Probably that is what killed it. I see all kinds of really stupid police shows, Rogue to name just 1, going into second season. But then I may not be considered a normal person by majority of native US viewers, being 1st generation Indian immigrant !May be if the makers had added some sleaze or foul language or maybe even a werewolf character it would have done better ! But then that is MHO.I really hope and pray they revive it. Apart from the 2 detectives the psychiatrist plays her character brilliantly. Of course I have seen her in British serials so my judgment may a bit clouded !

Crisis: You Do Not Know War
(2014)
Episode 9, Season 1

Full of goofs!
This was the most ridiculous episode so far. There are unbelievable number of directorial failures. I wonder if he has slightest clue of what reality is. I would like to see any agent kick in the front door of a foreign diplomat that opens on to the street in Washington DC, and that without anything splintering! I am pretty sure an agent/spy goes through small arms training. How does he completely miss hitting fully exposed agent in the back with time enough to aim and shoot? Again the same situation repeats when one aims and shoots from prone position at a man tiptoeing very slowly down the aisle in the church! How do the kidnappers miss a 4 inch wide opening in the wall in a room that is supposedly their command centre? Again how do they miss this distinctly visible hole in the loose panel in the bathroom? The panel would have fallen off just by the slight pressure differential created by opening and closing of the bathroom door. If this is even remotely close to real scenario it really is high time to amend the constitution and revoke the "right to bear arms". What with all those looneys floating around with assault rifles who can't hit anything other than cause collateral damage???

Major Crimes: Do Not Disturb
(2014)
Episode 5, Season 3

They got it all wrong !
I really wonder why the writers of US TV shows don't do some home work before dwelling into Indian social customs.

First of all the casting is wrong. Where do you get a such light skinned "Madhavan" ? The name suggests that he is a south Indian of Dravidian descent, a naturally darker skinned people. Secondly how do you account for an arranged marriage between a staunchly conservative south Indian to "Sethi", a very definite Punjabi North Indian? I don't say that marriages don't happen between Madhavans and Sethis but definitely not the arranged kind.

Arranged marriages do happen these days. The whole idea is to reduce possible points of conflict due to life style and food habits. In today's times these are with approval of the prospective spouses. The forced kind of marriage does not happen among the educated and well off families. Most certainly not immigrants who are living in the US.

Fargo
(2014)

Did this really happen?
This is supposedly based on a true story. I can't quite believe it in the sense the ineptness of the local police and the FBI! Or is it that the story writer wants to show them in a bad light.

How come they do not follow up on the call from Lester to Malvo? How does an individual with such a closed mind succeed the murdered chief? How stupid does the police think Chazz is to hide the evidence in his own garage? How does the FBI account for ignoring 7 phone calls from a local deputy who repeatedly asserts that she can identifying the wanted man? How does the killer get FBI code to rescind the order for backup? Are the US law enforcement agencies so inapt or complacent? At this rate even 10 million agents in Homeland Security won't be enough to catch real terrorists!

Prison Break
(2005)

Downhill slope is quite steep !!!!
Recently I came across entire compilation of of the 4 seasons and the movie. After watching just a couple of episodes of season 1 was hooked. Somewhere half way through the second season where Linc - Dominic Purcell gets more screen time the serial started losing its punch. I though Dubya was considered moron but Linc's character takes the cake. I have not seen any one worse than him. The character and the actor are a major let down - big time. Everything about him rings false. His emotions, his dumb blank looks, his so called street smart fighting skills, driving skills. You name it.

Apart from this all characters and actors have done wonderfully well. Especially T-Bag, Boss, Alex , Sara and of course Michael.

I noticed a number of mistakes in logistics, since I myself have lived in Chicago area for a number of years. To just name one, Sara is shown on the lake shore with Standard Oil Bldg and John Hancock Tower in the background. She supposedly makes a round trip from Lake shore drive to Joliet in under an hour. This is simply impossible even before imposition of 55 mph speed limit imposed in 1973/74.

I guess they had to bring the serial to an end. At present I have just started on season 4, it is drifting towards implausible. Overall good TP - "Time Pass"

The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers
(2009)

Unfortunate but true!
I am well aware of the facts as they happened. I have watched the movie based on this drama and "enjoyed" is not quite the word for it but felt sorry for the US population in general.

It is really unfortunate that there doe snot exist another Daniel Ellsberg from the regime of Bush Jr. It is about time the US government comes up with something like an Ombudsman - universally trusted would be the first requirement - who has unimpeded access to everything under the sky - within US, of course, to verify the truth as handed out by the people in power. They also need to take away the power of "presidential pardon" in the current form. It should be available only when a person is accused, tried and convicted.

Going off on a tangent I watched Avatar with great interest. Apart from the technology and special effects one message came through very clearly. What US wants they will get by hook or by crook. When any one else has what it wants simply make them your enemies and under the guise of preemptive action against terrorist attack destroy them and take over!

Live Free or Die Hard
(2007)

Plagiarized ?
I have been under the impression that most of the movies coming out of Hollywood including the Indie ones were originals and not lifted from some other source. I recently came across some new information that proves quite the opposite.

Recently a friend of mine brought me some DVDs of a BBC serial "Spooks" aired initially in 2002, which in my opinion is really great. In season 3 episode 7 which was aired in 2004 there is an identical situation where all the traffic signals turn green causing massive traffic problems accidents and deaths to thousands of bank accounts getting zeroed out. All this done by a security company based in Seattle, Washington.

Sounds familiar? Except for being adapted to US there is no difference. I am surprised no one else noticed this. Find the episode details for this BBC TV serial and check it out.

Waking the Dead
(2000)

Character development not quite right
I came across some DVDs of earlier seasons. After watching a few episodes It got me thinking about the writers/directors of the series and the way they developed their characters. What were they thinking? What I fail to understand is how did an insensitive, perpetually angry Boyd ever get promoted to be a detective superintendent. At no instance has it been shown that he possesses any special deductive skills nor any radical ideas which led to solving a case. In an organization like law enforcement agency working as a team is very critical. Not jumping to conclusions and especially loosing your cool at the slightest provocation I would consider as prerequisites. Boyd fails on both these accounts.

I am not much familiar with the actual British practice of law enforcement. May be Boyd IS a typical police officer one would encounter in real life. Thank god I don't live in that country.

Although the whole concept and selection of story line has been good for the serial the character of Boyd is contra indicated.

The people who may be concerned with the character development would do well to not mix up - assign - Hindu names to Parsi characters -specifically Sharma and Chaudhary in one episode. They better get hire 1st generation immigrant from India - one who is still maintaining contacts with the old country - as a consultant. The British may not realize this but the ex-pats will.

Changeling
(2008)

Eastwood has outdone himself
I have been a fan of Clint Eastwood since I saw Fistful of Dollars. I find his directorial capabilities far exceed his acting although I have liked some movies in which he has acted especially Absolute Power.

I have seen Angelina Jolie in a few movies and never liked her. She has always come across as a who**sh personality, a high priced p**n star, willing to bear all for a few bucks.

However in this movie Eastwood has managed to get excellent performance out of her too which is quite an achievement. All the actors play their characters very convincingly.

Overall the movie deserves a rating of full 10.

Bolero
(2004)

Vastly underrated
The first time I saw the movie I simply could not follow it. It is a Czech language one and no English language dubbed version was available. It is not an action movie so it would be impossible to follow from the visuals alone.

I searched for subtitles for it and finally found them on a obscure web site. Just to understand it I ripped the CD & incorporated the subtitles. Even than I had to pause intermittently to be able to read the subtitle text. I guess the Czech language is more efficient than English.

My entire perception changed. It is an excellent movie, very well made.

I somehow have a feeling that the majority of the voters could not follow it due to language problem.

Very definitely worth seeing. Far better than any of those Hollywood churns out that depend on foul language, unnecessary and importantly unbelievable action, unrelated female nudity.

Straw Dogs
(1971)

Don't believe the rating
I can't believe that such an awful movie got a rating of 7.7! It seems more like ballot box filling by the Brits.

The story line itself is deceptive. Until Sumner makes a stand there was no harassment from the locals. I wonder how Sumner got the grant to do research on maths when he is so stupid. To achieve something similar one would expect the recipient to be more mature and responsible.

Marries a woman who has mental age of 14/15 who has got a permanent sad and painful expression on her face as if she is suffering from a bad case of piles.

The other characters are quite authentic and believable from my own first hand experience.

Over all an awful movie that I wasted 2 hours on.

In future I must take IMDb ratings with a ton of salt.

Planted Evidence
(2008)

Brainless !!!
I rate it at 1 since I can't go any lower!!!

It would be difficult to write required 10 lines but will try.

Story - Extremely stupid. A 10 year old school kid can do a better job. Direction - None ! Maybe the photographer did the whole job. Acting - Dumb. Any amateur can do a better job. Characters - How can anyone worth a Million dollars be so stupid or gullible? They are supposed to be making million dollar deals which means they are able to talk people into their schemes. In other words street smart & smooth talkers. One has to be a moron to not be able to tell when a person is not dead.

I wish I was in the town they lived in. If they can make millions I can make Billions.

The Magdalene Sisters
(2002)

A case for Atheism?
I live in a country where religious differences are being magnified to an extent where riots take place and thousands die as a consequence of political & religious rabble rousing.

What worries me more is the demise of the USSR as a deterrent to USA's hegemony. What I see is the people currently in power are constantly bragging about their Christian faith & their unwavering following of the tenets - howsoever preached / dictated by the clergy. They too are creating a fear psychosis in the masses in the name of National Security - same as what the clergy does by way of "Going to Hell" for all so called sinners. They all claim to be "God Fearing" something I refuse to be. I want to worship God out of my love for him - certainly not from fearing him.

If what is depicted is true - and I do believe it to be - I would say no thank you to any religion.

One must never forget that human beings came into existence long before the written word and certainly before the scriptures were written. The mankind did evolve without those so called Aids.

Let the people go to their churches or temples or masjids or synagogues or what have you. Let them hear what their clergy have to say. However DO implore them to think it over and then only decide on their opinion forming and actions. Don't take anyone's word as a universal truth.

In the final analysis be a human being - not an animal.
