Mayakkam Enna
(2011)

Mayakkam Enna - Amazing !!!!!!
Depicting the multi-layers of human relationships and its ramifications comes very naturally to Selvaraghavan and when he has a National Award Winner for histrionics as brother to translate his vision onto the big canvas, what more can one ask for? The combo has proved themselves in the past and reiterates the theory in Mayakkam Enna too.

Mayakkam Enna is about a man who rediscovers himself in the journey of life and the crucial role of a woman in it. The premise remains Selva's comfort zone and the director has played it with aplomb.

Dhanush's biggest advantage is, the moment he appears on screen, you immediately invest your emotions with him and start caring for him (character) unmindful of its color. And in Selva's films, it definitely goes a few notches high. Richa Gangopadhyay- Is she a débutante? Hard to believe! She is the perfect foil for Dhanush.

It is not an exaggerated statement to say that G V Prakash's RR is exceedingly brilliant bringing out the finer feelings so beautifully and Selva has utilized GV's music alone to convey his thoughts instead of dialogues in many sequences. After Ilayaraja's RR, it is GV's RR that is going to be well spoken for a long time. And of course, Oda Oda and Adida Avlai are situational and hence enjoyable.

To sum it all, Mayakkam Enna is emotionally rich and is an inebriating experience by itself.Just Amazing Film making,it connects to you Emotionally and also takes you to a whole new level !!!!

Velayudham
(2011)

A Deepavali Treat !!!!!!
Vijay is back to what he does best; mass entertainers, and what better time to unveil a mass entertainer than Diwali. With the music already a rage, the excitement was palpable as fans headed in droves to theatres on the festival of lights.

Raja has done a fine job of mixing all the elements that go towards making a mass hero film, though he has lost the balance a bit in the last hour. His adeptness at placing comedy, romance, sentiment and the mandatory 5 songs into a script that has an alter-ego(istic) superhero should be commended. Nothing looks out of place, as we enjoy Santhanam's wisecracks, Vijay's dances and the brother-sister sequences. It is a while since we have seen Vijay excel in an emotionally heavy scene, Raja gets it out of the actor, in Velayudham. Also, placing 5 songs in a movie with none of them sticking out like a sore thumb is quite an achievement; though we should say that Vijay's presence is a major factor in ensuring this.

Everyone in front of the camera has done a fine job. Vijay is sprightly, energetic and every bit the way we love to see him. He has experimented a bit with his look in the songs and they have come out well. Hansika is there in many scenes, but for most parts is a silent spectator, being called upon once in a while, mostly for glamour. She does not look out of place as a village girl, but the makers' claim that she would remind us of Khushboo is an overstatement. Genelia gets quite a significant part and looks convincing. A laugh is guaranteed every time Santhanam is on screen. Saranya Mohan too deserves a round of applause for being good enough to make the audience feel the depth of the siblings' bond.

A racy entertainer this Deepavali season. A right choice for the festival mood. Enjoy with Your Family !!!!

Oosaravelli
(2011)

Vengeance with a difference !!!!!
Tony (NTR) is a wily youngster who does illegal things for money. He falls in love with Niharika (Tamanna) during a freak incident. He keeps following her and proposing to her. But she is engaged to some other rich guy. Tony has a secret mission and he is in hot pursuit of somebody. The rest of the story is all about the love story between the lead pair and how Tony achieved his mission.

NTR has shown inclination and flair to venture into the path less travelled with the character of Tony. He is very good in entertainment episodes where his fear turns into nightmare for the others (credit should be given for writing team as well). His dialogues are different in this movie. He gave the much needed massy dialogue in the climax episode. His performance in the flashback episode is excellent.

Tamanna has done an important role in the movie. Her performance in the flashback with short haircut is superb. Prakash Raj has done the role of main villain who makes an entrance only in the second half.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is an asset. The best song of the movie in my opinion is Sri Anjaneyam that comes in the flashback. There is lot of force and emotion in that song. Cinematography by Rasool Ellore is slick. Dialogues by Koratala Shiva are good. Fights composed by Ram - Laxman are good. S Ravinder's art director is apt

First half of the film is nice with decent entertainment. The foundation of the story which comes in the second half should have been stronger. However, the Tamanna's story in the flashback episode is heart-touching and emotional. The climax should have been crisp. The plus points of the movie are NTR and different screenplay.

Overall,Its a different attempt from usual NTR Films !!!!!Great !!!!

Dookudu
(2011)

A Mahesh and Vytla Treat
We guessed it right. Dookudu is really a big leap in Mahesh brand entertainment. There is, delightfully, a bonus. The film is a big leap in Vytla brand entertainment as well. To put it in a nutshell, this awesome film has got everything which you might have expected to see in Khaleja (2010) but did not find in it. Dookudu has got everything - comedy, action, romance. On the top of it, there is an intelligent screenplay that coalesces adrenaline punches with comic drama and sentiment. And when the sentiment involves a superstar like Mahesh Babu and an ace like Prakash Raj, who strike a perfect chemistry on screen, you cannot ask for more. It would be far-fetched to even suggest that Dookudu is a classic, as the hero had wanted it to be, but it is indubitably a must-watch film.

Thankfully, the drama and action are not routine. They are laced with rib-tickling comedy and touching sentimentality. Vaitla blends all the commercial ingredients in his inimitable style and makes Dookudu an enjoyable fare for all and how?

Well, here it is how he does it. Much like Dhee, Ready and King, this film too sees the the hero making everyone live in a fool's paradise: things go as the hero wants them. Nayak marvels at old Telugu classics and Ghantasala's rendition of the Gita; Brahmanandam, who believes that he is part of a reality show (this one, believe us, is top class), has you in splits as he is fooled around without a respite; MS Narayana's spoofing of Magadheera and Simha is superb; Prime Minister NTR, speaking on the ramparts of Red Fort in chaste Telugu, promises to bring black money back; Master Bharath participates in multi-crore land dealings and brings smiles. Even a get-to-gether of Mahesh, Samantha's families becomes an occasion for comedy of lies and bakras. Episodic treatment keeps your interest alive. Every murder comes with a touch of humour. Welcome to the world of Srinu Vaitla.

As for the performances, Mahesh delivers one of his career bests. He can now safely claim, without inviting ridicule, that Dookudu is a slap on the face of those who declared that he is not good at comedy. He shows verve and energy in action scenes. He is convincing in the khaddar get-up. He is remarkable at spouting one-liners as the super-efficient cop. He is trigger-happy, but is immediately funny in taking digs at his stupid senior Nasser.

All comedians and character artists do justice to their roles. On the flip side, however, Samantha is not seen much in the second half. But when she sizzles on the screen in Itu Raye number, you swoon.

Tehnicially, it is proof what a Digital Intermediate finish can make a film look like. It is visually rich.

Post Script: Babu land aithe opposition ku bande, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam says to a frightened Sonu Sood. Prince proves he is Numero Uno. The fight for top slot is over. Cool.

Deiva Thirumagal
(2011)

An Emotional and Light Hearted Journey !!!!
It is one of the best performances by Chiyaan Vikram. Right from the first scene when he is thrown on street till the last court sequence, he is there playing his part well. Anyone who watches the movie will love Krishna. Such is Vikram's performance as he brings out the innocence of the character well. As a father, friend and guide, he is scintillating.

Sarah is rare find. She is cool in her emotions and performs with ease. It's a different Anushka in 'Deiva Thirumagal'. No glamour but leaves a mark with her decent portrayal.

Amala Paul impresses in few scenes. There is Nasser, playing his part as advocate and Santhanam is good not just in humour but also in emotional scenes.

Nirav Shah's extraordinary visuals and G V Prakash Kumar's music are life and blood to the tale. Na Muthukumar's lyrics add pep to the songs. Vijay has handled things in a mature manner. He is sure to leave an impression.

One should watch this film in theaters to see the story and how it unfolds, because it has a great visual grip over you.

This movie wasn't made with mega budget or keeping 'hero image' in mind. It is a movie made for a story to be told. Worth your money. Go watch it!!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
(2011)

Transformers 3 - Amazing Improvement !!!!
TF3 is the best film in the franchise for me,it is not like TF2 with full of action, this film has action but manly in the second half only, humor is also handled well.

John Malkovich,John Turturro have minor roles of comic relief and they excel in it.Rossie is OK,but far better than Megan Fox,Shia has done his part in his usual way of lot of shouting, running, jumping over cars bonnets and even kills a transformer in this movie.

Leonard Nimoy's Voice to Sentinel Prime is Majestic,it matches to the character perfectly.Shock wave was amazing during the climax portion with that Building Crushing Action.

Michael Bay has reduced action in first half and loaded full of action in the second half and indeed actions scenes looks amazing and CGI is done perfectly.

Those who love Transformers movies and action movies will love it,even the haters will love it but their ego cant accept them to love a Bay film or action film and they say they expect Oscar material.

This film is pure fun and enjoy it during this Independence day Weekend !!!!

Ko
(2011)

Ko - Impressive !!
Journalists are until known to be portrayed in a clichéd manner in Tamil cinema, wearing a pyjama kurtha, spotted with a beard carrying a long shoulder bag. Times have changed and so are the lives and struggles of journalists

Ko' speaks about power struggle and press freedom, laced with all commercial ingredients in an interesting manner. All credits should go to the script and screenplay. Tautly written, there are hardly any logical loopholes.

Jeeva is impressive and played his part exceedingly well. He looks a typical photojournalist. His body language and dialogue delivery are worth a watch. An intense performer, Jeeva pulls it off with ease.

Karthika as Renuka brings out the nuances needed for the role well. She has not exaggerated. She downplays her emotions to gel with the character. Ajmal is a revelation as an aspiring politico Vasanthan. His looks compliment the character.

Anand deserves all accolades for rendering a brisk entertainer that is devoid of clichés. Racy all through, it is a movie that is worth a watch .....Great Film !!!!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
(2010)

An Epic Journey !!!!!!
It cant get any magical than this,it was amazing seeing Narnia back at its best.It was like a fairy tale that you imagine only in your dreams.

Fox has given rebirth to Narnia, and director apted has directed amazingly well, the boy who played Eustace(Will Poulter) acted amazingly, there was many scenes which got enlightened more by his presence and by his voice over.

The climax was also taken well, though there is no straight villain here, the concept of "your evil in the mind is the villain"was kinda cool because it showed you each and everyone's fear and desires. So it kind of made me thinking who is going to come really.

I have not read the book(i don't know whether it is based on book),but still it was amazing and magical

I think finally Narnia Universe will flourish in Fox....

Long Live Narnia !!!!!!!

Enthiran
(2010)

Robo - Man, machine, magic
All is grand and great with 'Enthiran'. From frame one till the last, there is enough thrill, spill and chill that one would normally associate with Rajinikanth. Perhaps it is double here. The magic of Rajinikanth and the aura of Shankar have been combined well to weave a magic on screen.

Come to describe Rajinikanth in Enthiran, we may run short of adjectives and adverbs. As scientist Vaseegaran and as robot Chitti, the top actor sizzles. He is cool and suave as Vaseegaran. More intellectual and stylish, he charms one and all.

Sporting a stylish beard, Rajinikanth appears in trendy costumes in flashy colours. He has exemplary energy and enormous screen presence quite like any other films of him in the past.

Not far behind is beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who missed few chances before to act with Rajinikanth. In 'Enthiran', she is cool and casual. The beauty with brains lends dignity to her role.

Walking away with applause is Mozart of Madras A R Rahman. All his songs are catchy, foot-tapping and trendy. The songs like 'Kadhal Anukkal….', 'Robo Dance…', 'Boom Boom…' or 'Kilimanjaro…', all evoke thunderous applause. Rahman's mastery in blending orchestration, harmony and rhythm add pep to all the numbers. The lyrics too compliment the songs and the theme of the movie. The legend in Vairamuthu, his novice son Kargy and Pa Vijay deserve applause.

Come to master of the ship – Shankar. The man of many achievements, who brought grandeur to Tamil cinema, has lived up to his reputation. His dream project which eventually hit the screens is nothing short of fun, frolic and excitement. Known for handling mass themes with much ease, here he combines such elements with science. A theme never heard before in Indian cinema, Enthiran, is nothing but a milestone movie. Shankar has added one more jewel in his crown.

Raavanan
(2010)

Raavanan - Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First things first. 'Raavanan' is not what everyone thought so. It isn't a contemporary adaptation of Ramayana. Instead, it's the Valmiki's epic meeting Shakespeare's Othello. The master filmmaker Mani Ratnam has apparently taken inspiration from these greatest works to narrate a gripping story in his own inimitable style.

'Raavanan', right from the day it went to floors, has been rising a huge hype and hoopla. And expectations soared a never before high before its release. Does the end product lived up to all? To this question, the answer is- With a huge star cast chipping in with their best, mesmerising shots, crisp editing and riveting music, 'Raavanan' ends up satisfying the appetite of the masses.

It has been a gripping narration from the very first frame. After 'Sethu' and 'Pithamagan', another side of Vikram's acting credentials is exposed. As Veera, he is at free touching almost every aspect of acting.

Aishwarya is pretty and comes out with her best. Prithviraj and Priyamani have taken the challenge of being part of a Mani Ratnam's film and delivered their best. John Vijay walks away doing a negative role.

Karthik as forest guard fits the role to T. His expression and body language are something interesting. Equally attracting is Prabhu. Munna as Vikram's younger sibling gets a meaty role to play, which he utilises well.

The shots especially in the huge jungle, water falls, hot chase and stunts have been canned at their best. The tone and texture is amazing. All credits go to Santosh Sivan. Rahman's music is the highlight and it gets more sheen with the way it has been shot. 'Veera Veera...' and 'Usure Pogudhey...' still chime in our hearts even as we walk out of theaters.

Running for little more than two hours, 'Raavanan' will go down in the history of Tamil cinema as one of the finest and best. Cheers Madras Talkies and Mani Ratnam for rendering a class movie that is racy and entertaining too.

Watch only in theaters...............

Aegan
(2008)

Waste Of Time
Aegan is full of crap action and comedy.Ajith's previous film Billa was far better than this one.Songs are good, but as usual Ajith has tried to dance. The first 5 min Ajith with long beard was different, but it had to be said that it is waste for the character.

Jairam was wasted with some crap comedy and Nayanthara tries to show more and more of her body parts then her acting skills.the movie is actually a remake of Main Hoon Na,But they have changed the screenplay and the climax from the original.but this turned out to be the biggest minus of the film.the climax is so awful that we start thinking why we sat through this movie for 2 and a half hours

The youngster Piya and navdeep done their best.Ajith is so dull in the movie ,reminding of his character in Billa.I didn't expect Ajith to select a movie which lacks so many things.

There was so much talk about the movie before it released, but seeing the movie now everybody must forget that they saw a movie named " AEGAN"

Don't watch this crap, you could stay home and be happy with your family rather watching this movie.

Vaaranam Aayiram
(2008)

Disappointing Film from Gautam
Its one of those movies which cannot be termed as a flop or hit...but to say the fact ,this film is a dragger,Gautam wants to tell about father-son relationship, but he has not made that clear in the movie..he seems to have lost the plot and the father Suriya's character could have been more inspirational.

The film is nearly 3 hours.in a film which goes for this long u should have a tight screenplay.but the screenplay from Gautam is so loose that u would want to leave the Cinema hall before the film has finished.

Music by Harris Jeyaraj is one major plus for the film, although background music is lagging.

Sameera reddy looks stunning during her short stay.Divya is apt for the character given to her.Simran also have given a stunning performance after a long gap.

Suriya, of course. He is nothing short of brilliant and it is no mere flattery to say that he has (while doing this most difficult job of being a father, teenager, young lover, deranged addict and a man with a purpose), simply risen to standards of histrionics far above the rest of the industry. The hurt rage in the underdog schoolboy's eyes; the gleam of love and enthusiasm in the young lover's gaze; the intolerable pain of separation and solace found in hallucinogens; the torturous path back to normalcy; the newfound sense of purpose and meaning; the rekindling of love and passions – this time, mature and lifelong; the closure of life's cycle (which is also the beginning of the same cycle for another)… all these emotions and nuances have been brilliant portrayed with his eyes and body language; so much so that even if this movie doesn't go on to become a box-office success, his work will be critically acclaimed for a long time to come.

Having all these wonderful performance,Gautam could have used well with a strong story and screenplay. Its seems that he is more confused whether to make this film as a drama or a entertainer. Its very tough even to see the movie once.

Kuselan
(2008)

It could have been so much better
It could have been so much better,if they have taken it like the Malayalam film, only rajnikanth is saving this boring flick, because of the poor comedy from vadivel and others...the director should have used the original script, and should not have added extra comedy scenes...mainly by vadivel and livingston.....santhanam comes up with some good crackers..he doesn't disappoint here...pasupathy has done a great job...but his acting often makes us to remember veyil....meena doesn't look like her family is poor...she has over make up...which is not suiting her character...Arvind Krishna's camera is excellent...G.V.Prakash's music is average.....only 2 numbers are good in his tracks..Climax is touching....Kuselan is one time watchable..
