Poruno jidaigeki: Bôhachi bushidô
(1973)

Masterpiece of Sleaze, More Pleaze!
It's been a while since I first laid eyes on this film, I now feel it's my duty to share my feelings and views on what happened here. Firstly, if the opening scene does not grab you and slam you into your seat, then you don't really enjoy Grindhouse Chanbara! From the vivid colors to the stylish camera angles, to the Badassery of the lead character Shino, Bohachi - Clan of the forgotten 8 is a masterpiece of sleaze that no male should miss! Nudging elbows with the Baby Cart series, Bohachi adds tons more skin to get your blood pumping even more. Many scenes are reminiscent of a comic, same style as Baby Cart. Violent, while not going over the top reaching gorebore. There is plenty red stuff spraying to keep your utmost attention. It screams style, cult and just looks so damn beautiful doing it. Shino could be related to Ogami Itto, or even Charles Bronson in fact! This film may be wildly off the wall, but it takes it's self dead serious, I believe. All you men, next time girls night out comes around, treat yourself to this beast!

Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf
(2009)

Nice Try Pat!
I love plenty of IMDb 3's and 4's but this one is just a load. Maybe I shouldn't have watched 13 Assassin's just a couple nights before, but I doubt anything could save this one. This guy just took all the best parts (and quotes) right out of the Baby Cart series and made yellow American cheese out of it. I LOVE Baby Cart, the series is long enough to enjoy repeat viewings for a lifetime. There's no need to watch this homage rubbish. He even stole the pistol slice move from Bohachi - Clan of the forgotten 8 (Highly recommended!). From the juvenile cut scene narratives to the 25mins worth of Reshething scenes, this blind wolf was a sad display. I'm sorry, but did we really need you to stop the film every 15mins to narrate to us how TRULY SKILLED these characters are!?

Combat Shock
(1984)

Very cheep but Very effective!
You have read all about the plot, so here is something a little deeper. I just wanted to clear up a few things, I have read a lot of comments on this film and read it was filmed in New Jersey. This is incorrect. This movie was shot in my neighborhood of Port Richmond on Staten Island, New York. Google it, its not NJ, guys. I work a block away from the rail yard that is shown very often in the film, and actually hung out down there in my teens. Because of this, the movie really hit home and stayed with me for a while. I just watched Combat Shock for the first time in 2008 at 28yrs old. And Port Richmond sure did look bleak back in 86, apocalyptic is more the word. I recognized most of the streets and it was depressing, and nostalgic for me to see my neighborhood in such ruins. Port Richmond ave has now populated much more, 90% by illegal immigrants. Most of the businesses that are run down in the film are now active with furniture shops, Mexican food joints and 99 cent stores. But the rail yard remains the same, though non functional for the last 20 years. A total run down abandon hole in the ground ravished with graffiti, bums and littered with empty drug baggies. I thought the film was great, and was even better being a sort of time capsule for me. I can't get this movie out of my head. It was like a window into the darkest crevices of my town, the places I would think about and fear growing up.
