Good Dracula story but... I have mixed feelings toward it! This is one of the few titles that get me confused whether I liked it or not!!.. maybe because it got divided into long thirds (3 episodes) with some different exploring adventures with Dracula!!.. Dracula story is the most famous vampire story known to everyone even when it is vaguely understood. This TV series uses familiar characters in the original story but with some different take on them.
The first episode is about an hour and a half long with a very very interesting Dracula reveal. The TV series staff really hit it right with the atmosphere, the acting, the music, the visual effects, and the creepiness. The two main characters to me in this episode are Dracula and sister Agatha while the supporting characters were Jonathan Harker and Mina. It is later known (at almost two thirds of the episode) that sister Agatha is actually from the same blood line as Van Helsing (probably it is meant to replace the character Prof. Abraham Van Helsing). Sister Agatha is shown to be a person of high intelligence who contemplates Dracula's nature and weaknesses (like how Prof. Abraham Van Helsing would do in such situation). As she was a nun, it was assumed her deep faith in higher power, but then it revealed that she is on the border in the matter of believe in God. Meeting Dracula and "experimenting" on him was the last straw to abandon her believes in higher power!
The second episode is also about 90 minutes and over 85% of the time is on board of the Russian ship Demeter. Dracula wanted to re-locate.. to be near more people to feed from, so he went aboard the ship to travel from Transylvania to England.. The whole episode was like a murder mystery.. you know who is the killer but still you wanted the characters involved to figure it out. I can say, that it was an easy murder mystery because of some stupid moves. This episode was way less interesting than the first but the "new" characters were exciting and it was a chance to observe the powers of Dracula.
The third episode was the least favorite to me and it was also 90 minutes long.. it is set in modern day with again another set of "new" characters to continue the story of Dracula.. The episode wasn't necessary. Lot of time wasting in scenes that can be described in few minutes by fewer characters. It seems That the book have a side story that the series staff really really wanted to show but it looks that it might distract the attention a little in episodes 1 and 2 so they through it out to the end (in episode 3). I can't say it is bad, but it is really off for me specially with final scenes already make it hard to absorb the ideas clearly.. I am hesitating to say that the writers of this TV show want to push a single main idea using the Dracula story!
Anyway this TV series is good in overall and entertaining (all the episodes) but some episode can be more entertaining than the others depending on preferences of style and narrative.
