Saw this recently n found the movie to be non scary n non atmospheric but darkly comedic with a good pacing. It doesn't get boring at all.
I was rofl during the death sequence of Uncle Chip.
The production values r great, especially the mind blowing effects n the kills r over the top n brutal, a la Final Destination style.
The final scene involving a bus and a truck is a big wtf just happened. Gruesome yet darkly comedic.
The things missing were the origin of the mysterious toy monkey n Adam Scott's character getting hold of the toy.
I can understand why they changed from the cymbal banging monkey to the drum beating one but they shud have shown some creepy n sinister stuff.
I haven't seen the director's Longlegs which is getting rave reviews. In fact haven't seen any of his previous movies.
Also I wasnt aware that the director Osgood Perkins is the son of legendary Anthony Perkins best known for Psycho.

I first saw this in the early 2k on a dvd which I own.
Revisited it recently as a tribute to Gene Hackman.
In my opinion this is an unofficial follow up of the Gene Hackman's The Conversation.
Both movies were ahead of its time.
The plot is about a lawyer who is targeted by a group of corrupt NSA agents after he comes into possession of incriminating evidence against them against his will.
Movies like these are scary n even makes us paranoid in terms that our spending habits, our location, our every movement, our conversation, are visible to others whose motives we cannot know.
This film is notable for having cast several soon-to-be stars in smaller supporting roles.
This one moves at a steady pace, has solid tension n suspense throughout, lots of action, chases n a good climax involving Tom Sizemore as a mafia don n a shootout like Reservoir Dogs n Face Off style.

I first saw this in the late 80 on a vhs n found it to be a bit scary. I wasn't aware that this one was a rip off of Stephen King's short story The Monkey.
Revisited it recently on a fast forward mode on YouTube. The print is decent.
The plot is about a cymbal-banging monkey toy.
Every time the monkey's cymbals are struck, a nearby living thing dies.
There exist another version directed by the same director, Kenneth J. Berton, known as Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders starring Ernest Borgnine, which I haven't seen n doesn't plan on seeing it.
This one moves at a very slow pace n the kills ain't that bloody or scary. The only good thing is the suspense n tension n also the dark ending.
Revisited it due to the recent The Monkey.
