The Darkest Minds
(2018)

Let's pray hard they don't make a sequel
To summarize, predictable, cliched and downright boring.

I gave it 3 stars because I managed to sit through the whole movie.

If you enjoyed Maze Runner, Twillight, and the likes. You will find that this movie is for you.

Other than that, I won't recommend this. Not even on a boring starless saturday night.

Christopher Robin
(2018)

Disney should stick to what it knows best
As what my title says, Disney should stick to what it knows best.

Amazing story of friendship and family values. The settings, the mood, the music.. its just wonderful.

Solo: A Star Wars Story
(2018)

Solo, suprisingly good
Am a big fan of Star Wars Ep 1 - 6.

7 killed my interest. Rogue One brought it back slightly. And 8 basically nailed the coffin.

I was skeptical about Solo because no other person but Harrison Ford is Han Solo.

To my surprise, Solo: A Star Wars Story is actually quite good and entertaining. Though a bit predictable if you had watched the previous 6.

Alden Ehrenreich actually did a good job on Solo.

Don't be a hater and watch it. I hated 7 - 8. Wish I could drop a bomb on the producers, writers and directors of 7 - 8. But I gave Solo a chance and it did not disappoint.

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
(2017)

The Last Jedi is ... Tak Jadi
In the Malay language, Tak Jadi means "Not Becoming".. guess that sums it up.

Words really cannot describe my disappointment with this newest installment in the Star Wars saga..

Star Wars has always been epic... Last Jedi is epic fail. Eps 1 - 3 weren't spectacular but comparing to these 2 (Force Awaken and Last Jedi), they are masterpieces.

Let's say you have never watched any of the first 6 movies, Last Jedi in itself is just plain PLAIN and badly written.

I gave it a 5 because I felt sorry for Luke, Leia, Chewie, R2D2 and C3PO. One star each. How it got past 7 on IMDB is beyond me. Makes one wonder how many fake accounts Disney created to hike the ratings...

City of Ember
(2008)

Simple, slow and bland.. well that's the way some likes it for their cup of tea.
A simple movie but nice to watch. Nice meaning not too bad and watchable if you can stand the bland storyline...

Again City of Ember is ANOTHER adaptation from a novel. sigh... Hollywood's well of originality has really run dry..

Anyway, if you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki, you will notice certain similarities in its plot. Well, City of Ember is no anime if that's what you are asking and there's no giant flying cat or castle that can walk.

The similarity comes from its subtle environmental-message and also from the movie's setup. City of Ember's peculiar and weird 'arrangements' seems to fit very well like most of Hayao's works. Hence you don't feel the urge to ask why and how. The same that you don't question Nausicaa's way of life and you don't ask why there are wizards and witches in Howl's industrial-revo era setup. And you definitely don ask why a goldfish have a human face...

In a glance this movie is boring and slow... but its appeal comes from its simplicity. The city itself and its way of life.

I would recommend this movie to those who want an escape from all the "CG-slow-mo action and bullets that never seems to critically hit the hero" movies.

A nice and simple movie that you may wanna bring your kids to.

Dragonball Evolution
(2009)

Watch it if you have the time...
DB-EVO is again another sad effort by Hollywood to bring the world of comics, manga and games onto the silver screen. In its relentless effort to continuously 'import' ideas from previous works and also literature, DB-EVO is an apparent desperate and not-well thought through attempt. So desperate that this movie appeals to neither the fans of the original Akira Toriyama manga and also to the those that knows nothing about Dragonballs.

The maker of the film kept to some of the original story's detail but the story in itself is a total flop. Simplicity may not be the best approach for a manga that relates the adventures of Son Goku from child to adult.

Though its plot is fairly easy to predict, audiences are left in total disarray as the movie unfolds. Certain details are not explained and well, simply put "ends do not meet ends".

After watching for 20 minutes, you can basically tell how the film is going to end. Even the pitiful effort at the end to prelude the "possibility" of a second movie is as easily predicted and anticipated as it is poorly done.

Throughout the movie, you can see the maker's desperate effort to connect the dots between the characters and the events. Leaving no room for the characters to bond and no time for the events to make sense.

The only plus side is the satisfaction that you get when you can tell the character's name before they are told.

In summary, if you are a fan of DBZ I would urge you to watch this movie because you will cherish your manga more. For those that are not, watch it if you have the money and time to spare.

Bu liang xiao hua
(2008)

Bad bad bad
I have seen a lot of bad drama.. this is definitely one of them. The plot is ridiculous and childish. The amount of overacting is irritating. The lead actress Yang's performance is incredibly outstanding; IF the story is about a mentally-challenged helium-voiced girl with overreacted facial expression.

What actually amazed me about this drama is the amount of publicity and attention given to it in Taiwan. It is rumored to be one of the funniest love drama of its time by the Taiwan media. And this drama remains as what the media claim - a RUMOUR. The jokes are non-sensical and down-right NOT FUNNY.

Watch this drama if you want to. But I would advice you to use your time for other more beneficial activities.
