Crap. Gratutiuous
Sick just because it could be. Movie falls flat on its face in 45 minutes. Don't bother watching it. Watch Requiem for a Dream instead.

Absolute crap. I give it a 4 for effort. Movie starts out rich and well textured then forgets itself and rushes through 45 more minutes of gratuitous schlock. Mickey Rourke is actually interesting in this film. But a Meth cook is about all he could pull off nowadays. Jason Schwartzman could have been a lot better if there had been a different director.

Oh mi god. What a farce
If you want an example of what happens in Hong Kong when an Original movie succeeds watch this one. Iron Monkey 1 did fabulously well. Which leads me to believe that the Hong Kong tradition of spurting out another sequel (or in this case a seeming knockoff) is painfully obvious here.

This piece of garbage looks like it was shot in 1964. I honestly jumped on the net and looked up when this film was shot. There is no way in hell that this can even be compared to Iron Monkey 1. I think a better name for it would be Masked Monkey.

Fight scenes almost made it worth it. Almost.

Rent it if you must. Don't Buy it. Not even for $1.99 . In fact don't rent it. :)

Don't Believe the Hype
Many reviews I have read say that this is one of the best Martial Arts movies ever made.

I disagree. Please consider the fact that the version I saw was fullscreen and dubbed.

This movie seems to have crossed the cusp of good Kung Fu movies. It was made in 1983 which seems to explain the crappy costuming. In my humble opinion, the costumes are grotesque and gaudy. We are talking liquid gold and leopard skins. The plot was very jumbled and not very clear. The classic Kung Fu training sequences were not very long or explanatory. And if you've seen the movie you will know how lame the wolf training dummies were. And for being called `The Invincible Pole Fighter' he seemed to be the exact opposite

One redeeming quality was the cool ass bendy poles that the Mongols used to entrap the Yang's spears. They were highly annoying to the heroes and the audience. A real sense of hopelessness. One good thing was the intensity of the final fight scene. A real cliffhanger.
