Moby Dick
(1956)

A Gigantic of a Classic
Here's another film that I'd give 20 stars if they'd allow it. Gregory peck is simply someone who CAN'T make a bad film, and Moby Dick is one of his best! Someone said that Moby Dick was not evil, and he wasn't! He was a creature doing what creatures are supposed to do-LIVE and enjoy Life! Us humans, in our vain and smug superiority, convey our attributes (as Evil) onto animals for our own poor purposes, and this Ahab did with the White whale. It is a stunning movie, incredibly well-acted and scened. Some idiot reviewer in the 50's criticized it for not having any women or a love interest in it! Well hooray for Hollywood, for a change. Women don't belong in EVERY movie--Oh what did I say! Well, in this one, they'd be as out of place as a Christmas Carol on the Fourth of July! It's one of my personal all-time top ten favorites, along with Mr. Peck's CAPTAIN NEWMAN MD, and is a GREAT film. Don't miss it, and get the DVD!!!

Bring It On
(2000)

A Very entertaining and well acted film
I've seen this film a dozen times or more since it came out, and I like it more each time. Everyone in it is a top-notch actor, because they all seem to be real cheerleaders. The one flaw, or really just something I didn't like, was the racist attitude of the black girls and the way the end of the movie pandered to that - meaning (Possible spoiler coming up) as soon as you find out that the black squad can't afford to go to the finals, I said to myself, "Uh-oh, they're not only going to go..... they're going to win. The "poor black people" routine I've seen in so many TV shows has apparently creeped into movies. As far as their routines went, I honestly think that the Rancho Carne squad WAS just as good or better, so how come, just because they're black, the inner city squad wins? I guess Hollyweird wants to make sure that black people are never disappointed! BS!!!!Still, as I said, the acting is first rate all around, and it's a very enjoyable film.

The Simpsons
(1989)

The BEST animated show on TV---EVER!!!!!!!!
Yes, I thought The Flintstones was great, but The Simpsons is by FAR the best animated show on TV, and with few exceptions--The BEST PERIOD!!! I didn't jump on until midway through the second season, but I've been a die-hard-foam at the mouth Simpsons fan ever since. I go into withdrawal if I don't get my Simpsons fix every day. And Thank goodness for DVD, so when the show does fold or people get too greedy (as those Hollyweird folks tend to do), we'll have it forever! It's irreverent, rude, and just plain funny! It offends just about everybody, but I haven't seen any group complain. And look at the celebrities that seem to be waiting in line to do a cameo. One thing, Simpsons producers... Get the Treehouse of Horrors episodes on their own DVD set - Christmas too! It'll sell--Trust me! THE SIMPSONS FORVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C.A.N.D.L.E.S.: The Story of the Mengele Twins
(1990)

Riveting and Haunting--But what is society doing today?
I saw this film a few years back and would love to get it on DVD. It's like a car wreck--you don't want to look, but you have to! It does a fabulous job documenting the "work" on twins that Dr. Mengele perpetrated on these people, and traces the courageous survivors into the present. But what are we, as a society, doing to perpetuate what he did? Look at the disgusting single women, seemingly wealthy, and having above-average intelligence, who go to sperm banks to be impregnated by Nobel Prize-winning, or super-successful businessmen donors in the hopes that their baby will be the same? And would you like to guess just how much of what scientists know today about cloning was learned from Dr. Megele's notes and writings? It makes me wonder what we really learned from the Nazis and what we're doing with it? I think that these women should be very, very careful what they are wishing for: They may get it!

Ugly Betty: Pilot
(2006)
Episode 1, Season 1

Ugly Betty is First Class-But tone down the "Hispanism"
First off, let me say that I LOVE Ugly Betty! It's funny; interesting; and extremely well-acted. America Ferrera is an academy-award winning actor,as is virtually the entire cast - They gel perfectly with one another. But WHY are so many people making a big deal out of her ethnicity? Why are so many Hispanics going on and on and on about Ms. Ferrera being "one of them", when they should just applaud her amazing abilities as an actor? If it's wrong to denigrate someone because of their ethnic persuasion, why isn't just as silly to make a point of it? Ms.Ferrera is very funny, but it has nothing to do with her being Hispanic---SHE'S JUST FUNNY! THE SHOW IS FUNNY! And by the way, it's nice, as well, unlike so many shows today- it's funny without the filth. And in a comedic way, you sensitive types! Let's just close with the fact that I love the show and hope that it's on for many, many seasons. GO BETTY!!!!

Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All
(1994)

Another Plus for Diane Lane!!!
I first saw this great film about 6 years ago, and have seen it twice since then; and have only two weeks ago gotten it on DVD (At Wast, as Elmer Fudd would say!) Diane Lane (as usual) excels in this story of a young girl age 14, who marries a 40's Confederate veteran and it basically tells the story of (literally) the rest of their lives. Very touching, moving at times, and VERY well acted. Also turning in a stellar performance is Donald Sutherland as the veteran, and a Cecily Tyson, also in her case AS USUAL! It's simply an excellent film from start to finish - even the supporting cast does that; support the film with exceptional acting. I recommend it highly!!!

Southern Belles
(2005)

A movie this good-Made in 2005!?!?
I saw this film just two weeks ago and would have sworn it was a romantic comedy from the late 60's or early to mid- 70's: but it was made in 2005, and it's one of the nicest, corniest, sweetest movies I've ever seen. Anna Faris is at her usual comedic best, but Laura Breckenridge steals the show! She is so cute, sweet, and 99 other adjectives for adorable!! You just want to hug her and protect her from the world! The movie follows two women, named Bell and Belle (hence the name) as they want to leave their small town to go to Atlanta to seek fame and fortune, but will they compromise their innocence and sweet naiveté in the process? The ending is pure joy, and if you don't cheer for them, you're not human! It's GREAT!!!

The Boys in Company C
(1978)

Campy, silly here and there, but a GREAT 'Nam film!
This is one of the best Vietnam films ever made in the Serious-but-Campy category. It follows a group of jar heads from basic training to their seeing the elephant (Baptism under fire) and beyond. Watching Stan Shaw's character go from a dope-dealing clown to a man with a conscience is great: as well as Andrew Stevens character Pike grow from a young man-child fully into a man. Lee Ermey, as always, is flawless as Sgt.Loyce, and Santos Morales is a stitch (Joo Deed Wut?) See this film at least once, you owe it to all us fools who answered our country's call, and I'll be very surprised if you don't like it, unless you also like Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and peed-on potato chips.

Disneyland: Johnny Shiloh: Part 1
(1963)
Episode 16, Season 9

A Great Fun flick from Disney
Yeah, back when films weren't always accurate but were ALWAYS entertaining! This film chronicles the Civil War exploits of a real person - John Clem who, at the age of 11 went into the Union Army, killed a Confederate officer at the battle of Shiloh, and earned his nickname. He retired in the 1870's as a Major General and died in (I think) 1913. The film mainly takes play during the war, is a bit over-dramatized, but very well done and VERY entertaining. John Clem was a truly inspirational young man, and Disney does a great job with this one. Kevin Corcoran is great and not annoying, for a change, and Brian Keith does a first class job as his sergeant. This film came out shortly before THE GREAT LOCOMOTIVE CHASE, another Disney great, and is well worth the viewing, and let's hope that Hollyweird gets this one out on DVD before the 3rd millennium!!!

In Pursuit of Honor
(1995)

A First Class Feel-Great movie!!!
I first saw this film during a snowstorm at my dad's house in 1998 and got the video when IT came out, and the DVD when IT came out! It's a first-class film in every way. It takes place at the time when the army was just leaving the "old" cavalry and getting ready for the "new", mechanized cavalry, and a group of old-style cavalry troopers have to destroy a group of horses that the army no longer needs. James Sikking does a first class job portraying Douglas McArthur, first clearing out the "bonus" marchers from World War 1, then pursuing these old soldiers as they try to take these now useless cavalry mounts up to Canada, hoping they'll be safe there. If you love horses; great movies with little special effects-just great acting and a really nice end; you must see it; you'll be VERY glad you did!

Holy Matrimony
(1994)

Pointless but Hilarious!!! A GREAT "Saturday afternoon" film
I've seen this film twice and had to get the DVD! It is HILARIOUS! The actor who plays the young boy who faints every time he gets upset is a stitch, Patricia Arquette is perfect, and the supporting cast really make you think that they are Hutterites! (I'm not sure whether they are or not, I haven't found any info either way) : If they're actors, they're perfect, though. It's quite simply a superb escapist film as far as being entertaining goes. It grabs your attention from the first five minutes and keeps you through the entire film. The plot, the acting; all GREAT! Don't miss this one - If you see it, you'll want it in some format in your collection. That GOOD!

Nell
(1994)

SUPERB and EXCELLENT! Jodie Foster was robbed of an Oscar for this one!!!
I've seen this movie once on Cable years ago and loved it! Just saw it a few minutes ago and loved it all over again. Jodie Foster was truly robbed of an Oscar on this one: she excels like no other performance I've seen in years. You really care for her character, and then for the closeness that develops between Nell and the two doctors, and you really feel like cheering when the two doctors fall in love with each other, as they take a real sincere interest in Nell. It's a great film because, as mentioned above, the caring of and for the characters comes through like a tidal wave. You can tell this is an older movie, just by that! I can't wait for the DVD so I'm getting it on tape.

Kings of the Sun
(1963)

A Classic! Why isn't it on DVD?
I last saw this GEM of a film in the late 70's, on TV, of course, so it was riddled with commercials, but was still a great, well-acted film. George Chakiris is flawless as Balam, a Mayan King who has to flee his homeland with a loyal group of followers. They travel to the Americas and at first, battle with a Native American tribe, led by Yul Brynner, who is at his usual flawless best, and when George Chakiris's rival follows him to the Americas, the final battle sequences are up there with other classics like ZULU and THE BUCCANEER. Also interesting and thought-provoking is how the Mayans learn from the Native tribe and how they deal with their practice of human sacrifice. When this one comes out on DVD....GET IT! IT'S A GEM!!!!!

Western Union
(1941)

Flawed and All, It's a great film!
Here's another of the 1940's westerns that I watch whenever it comes on TCM or FMC, because although it may be flawed historically, it is extremely entertaining and well acted, plus it's got Randolph Scott, my favorite actor second only to Gary Cooper-Well, OK, fourth behind COOP, Charlton Heston, and Gregory Peck. But the film itself, to me anyway, is reasonably historically accurate and as I said before, well acted and "flows" very well-I bet I've seen it 50 or 60 times, and enjoy each viewing more than the one before. I have it on tape from TCM but would buy it in a minute if it ever came out on DVD. See it if you haven't- I guarantee you'll like it!

Attack on Terror: The FBI vs. the Ku Klux Klan
(1975)

Mildly Flawed but a great film!
I've seen this Docu-drama at LEAST 12 times in the past 20 years or so, and enjoy it more with each succeeding viewing, and I'd love to see it on DVD! Hollyweird, are you listening? The acting is superb, especially the actor who portrays the young agent that is married. Look for a young Dabney Coleman too: He's great as well. And some of the brainless quotes by the Klan members are priceless, like the one where an interview is being conducted of a crowd of people and one clown says "We're being invaded by prostitutes and Jews", but he delivers the line so calmly and softly that he could be telling the interviewer that he likes Betty Crocker cake mix over Duncan Hines! It's really funny the way it's done. And when the FBI man is talking to a Klan leader and says, "If my wife gets one more call from one of your Klukkers, there's going to be trouble", or something like that, I crack up. All in all, it's a great film, flaws and all, and I will buy it the minute it comes out on DVD!

Sergeant York
(1941)

One of the BEST War films ever made!!
In this day and age of FRAUDS like Jessica (The 8 day POW) Lynch, this movie is like an oasis in the desert! "Coop" does a flawless job as Sgt. York, portraying his sincere humility like a champ and telling the story like it was! And I love Mr. York's quote; "this is Uncle Sam's Uniform, it ain't for sale!" Mr. York turned down more than $250,000.00 in endorsement offers, and was finally GIVEN 100 acres of land in Tennesse by the grateful people of that state; which was all he wanted. Jessica (The 8 day POW) got more than $3,000,000.00 for her "Heroism" York was a TRUE hero, even though it happened more than 85 years ago. I wish we had more soldiers like him!!!!! A truly great film with great acting and a story line that sticks very close to the truth. And c'mon, Hollyweird, please try to get this one on DVD before the NEXT millennium. It's one of the BEST films ever made.

The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
(1974)

AWESOME! Just simply A W E S O M E !!!!!!!!!
AWESME! This film is a classic in the most deserved sense of the word. Cecily Tyson's acting is no less than Emmy-Award caliber, and she should have gotten TWO for this performance. The story flows like the Mississippi, slow and deliberate, and carries you willingly along, it is THAT Powerful. I never noticed when it first ran on TV that there had been only one commercial during it's telecast, but the story is so riveting and encompassing that there shouldn't have been ANY! Get the DVD as soon as you can; if you've never seen it, you'll be awed as well. If you have, you'll enjoy it all over again each time you view it! AWESOME !!!!!!!

That Darn Cat!
(1965)

Great-Fun-filled flick! If you're a Meezer Lover, a MUST see & have!
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen this film, one of Disney's Top Five. I'm rather prejudiced, though, as I'm now living with a direct descendant of "DC" named BJ IV. We bought his (DC's) Great-Grandson from the breeder who bred the original "DC" and not only have the papers from the CFA naming the Disney Studios as his owners, but have managed to keep the direct lineage going, as BJ IV is "DC's" direct descendant. He's now 7 years old, and BJ V is currently in production, and should be born in October of 2005. The film is a classic, and if you're a Meezer Fanatic (You love Siamese Cats) you'll watch it forever too. UPDATE - Feb. 2006 - BJ V is now 4 months old, is as cute as a bug, and since his paws look like snowshoes, he's apparently going to be a BIG Kittie, like his famous Great-Great-Great-Grandad!

The Egyptian
(1954)

Flawless and Fabulous! They don't make 'em like this anymore!
I'll bet I watch this film 4 or 5 times a year, and will do so more often, now that the Hollyweird moguls have seen fit to put it on DVD, because it's a Classic with a capital "C"! This film is timeless! How can people pay $10.00 nowadays to see the JUNK that comes out of Hollyweird with movies like THE Egyptian; THE TEN COMMANDMENTS; BEN HUR; CAPTAIN NEWMAN MD on tape; DVD; and cable movie channels; I could go on forever, but this film is so great, and for a relative unknown, Edmund Purdom carries the movie like Atlas carried the world. The story is wonderful, the acting is first-rate, and the graphics at the end are so powerful, you sit in your seat for a few minutes, just trying to let the words sink in! Really a knockout of a film. I'd give this one 15 stars if they'd let me! They don't make them like this anymore, But they should!!!!!

Medusa's Child
(1997)

Excellent! Absolutelty Spine-chillingly Excellent!!
Saw this film for the first time about 10 minutes ago and was absolutely FLOORED!!! After the first 20 minutes, I said to myself....EH; Maybe a C+. Then, once Gail O'Grady's character got the thing ( I won't say what) on board and you learn what it is, I upgraded it to a B+. Then, a little more than an hour into it, I shouted aloud, "Eccumenical Effluvia", A+, and by the end, 2 hours later, it's final grade was A+++! Then, I come downstairs to see how much it is on Amazon, But neither they nor anyone else has it out yet!?!? Movie fans, SEE THIS ONE!!!!! It drags a tad in the first 20 minutes, but stay with it! You'll need Kidneys of cast iron... it's that good. You'll be glued to your seat!

Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier
(1955)

Have loved this film, flaws and all, since it came out in 1954!
I first saw this movie, over the 3 Sunday nights it ran on THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR, as The Disney show was then called, and fell head over heels with the character of Davy. He was so honest and good to my 5 year old mind and now, 50 (50!?!?!?) years later, I still admire the man and all he stood for. I was living in San Antonio, TX, at the time these 3 shorts came out, so I had my parents take me to the Alamo after the last installment and today I own a model 1816 Flintlock musket that was carried by a Mexican soldier in the second wave of the morning assault of March 6, 1836. The soldier; Eduardo Escalon's Great-Grandson furnished me written provenance from his Grandmother, who died in 1924, that her father had carried this particular rifle in the assault, and when he mustered out of the army after San Jacinto, he brought it with him when he emigrated to the US (Texas, of course), in 1838, and documents the history of the weapon during the battle, and it is in Fine shape for a rifle that's 179 years old and is still very accurate, though only for maybe 5- to 75 yards. And the tie-in to this film is obvious, and yes, I sometimes sit with the rifle in my hands when I watch the now DVD that just came out and think about the history of the whole scene.

Torso: The Evelyn Dick Story
(2002)

One of the best "sleepers" I've ever seen!
I saw the last part of this film last year on cable and fell in love with Kathleen Robertson, so I had to see the complete film and loved it! She is so beautiful and does a wonderful job portraying Evelyn Dick. Ms. Robertson is obviously as talented as she is easy to look at, and she makes the film! Her acting is flawless, and I will look for her in other films! The film also turned me on to 40's Jazz when I heard the song "Melacholy Lullaby" over the closing credits, and I just found the CD by Alex Pangman that the track is on and can't wait to hear more of her. The film is great, though, and I may just get the tape, unless the DVD is out.

New York Minute
(2004)

This Film would have to improve to smell!
HOOOO Boy, did they bite the bullet on this one! I can really only comment on the first 20 minutes of this abysmal film, as that's all my wife and I could stand - we were laughing so hard at the God-awful acting! Is Eugene Levy having a hard time, that he should have to stoop to appearing in trash like this? I would rather coat myself with fresh blood and swim through the Amazon River lengthwise (it's infested with Red Bellied Piranha). Don't they make enough money from their questionably silly investments already? Why did they have to butcher the film industry with this example of celluloid pollution? This movie sucks WORSE than a Barney Frank Fan Club Convention! The only nice thing I can say about those two is that it's a good thing that triplets didn't run in their family! This film is just a 2 hour, slightly STUPIDER version of Full House!

Fahrenheit 9/11
(2004)

A Waste of My Time!
The last film (and I'm being VERY kind calling this celluloid toilet paper a "film") I saw with this much fantasy in it was THE WIZARD OF OZ! This fat Clown wouldn't know a fact if it bit him on his a**! What studio bought this trash, much less put it out for the public and who BELIEVES this sh**?!?! Michael Moore is an idiot!!!! Bowling for Columbine was stupid and convoluded and just plain WRONG enough, but this drivel is so full of bold face LIES it's pathetic, and anyone who believes it is not only obviously a card carrying member of the Democratic Party but a complete FOOL! This "movie" is quite simply a lie - nothing more or less! Michael Moore is a Democrat and trying to make bush look bad, but a stupid movie like this isn't going to do it! C'mon, Fat boy, you gotta do better than this!

The D.I.
(1957)

For a non-serviceman, Jack Webb is GREAT!
I first saw this film in the late 60's, and try to see it every time it comes on TV, which, unfortunately, isn't often. Now that I have TCM and FMC, I hope it will be on at least once a year. Like Louis Gossett Jr. in An Officer and A Gentleman, Jack Webb delivers an unbelievably great performance as a Parris Island Drill Sergeant with the classic screw-up recruit, and the story line in this one, though dated, is touching and very well acted. And having real jar-heads in the cast certainly helped in the realism of the film as well. It's a great film with top-notch acting and a superb story. See it if you have the chance-It's well worth the time!
