Dummy
(2002)

It doesn't get worse than this
Great idea, good acting, pathetic script. So ridiculously absurd that you'd have to be from another planet to think that this could ever happen. And it really is a very basic story- nothing really happens- but the chemistry between the characters is so lacking that you can't believe that there would ever be any genuine attraction between the two main characters. Even in other movies where the boring loser guy gets the hot chick, he at least has something to offer her. This movie was a complete waste of time, despite wonderful performances by most of the main characters. Illeana Douglas (Ghost World, Cape Fear, New York Stories) and Vera Farmiga (just an all around up and coming good looking film actress)were both exceptional.

Pretty smooth deception
This movie starts out like a total slam on Clinton, but then as it develops it clearly takes the opposite route. But the funny thing is, the main Pro-Clinton message that it ultimately delivers is "Gee, he may have done all these terrible things, but he says he cares about people, so it's o.k."

And of course, there are the usual Hollywood cheap shots at Republicans, with the filmmakers going out of their way to bring up Richard Nixon, as though he was a bigger embarrassment than Clinton.

It was also funny to see them build a Hillaryish character that has a lot more substance and moral fiber than the real Mrs. Clinton has, as the character's swearing and temper tantrums were kept to a minimum.

The acting in the movie was excellent, but the storyline grew tiresome and was overlong. The film is somewhat fascinating in that for each scandal that the screenplay writers came up with, it was easy to recall a similar one during the original Clinton campaign or administration. Ultimately, the movie- though mildly entertaining- fails in that it can not achieve the level of entertainment derived from the actual events of the Clinton campaigns. And interesting enough, the movie didn't really serve as much of a pro-Clinton piece. It makes you wonder why it was even made.

Major Disappointment
I remember seeing "Joe Dirt" and thinking that it was pretty good, but that it could have been a much better movie with just a little bit of effort. When I heard about this movie I had hoped that somebody might have figured that out and made a funny movie about the trailer park/NASCAR/mullet lifestyle. Unfortunately this movie doesn't even measure up to "Joe Dirt". It's not that the acting is bad, there just aren't many jokes, and the many easy targets for laughs aren't even explored. It was very difficult to watch the whole thing, but I managed it by watching the last half during the commercials of a television program.

Tin Cup
(1996)

The worst movie I have ever seen
This is a zero laugh movie. That is not good for a comedy. No drama here, either. This movie serves as proof that if a major industry player chooses to spend enough money on promotion it can promote anything into making money if it features a star that is popular at the time the movie comes out. This snoozer makes Happy Gilmore and Caddyshack look like Godfather I and Godfather II. Heck, it even makes Dude Where's My Car look like Schindler's List. The only good thing about this movie is the end, because you realize that no matter what you do, and no matter how long you live, you will never have to sit through another movie as lame as this.

Easy to munch to
What an exciting trip this movie is! Get your popcorn before the movie starts because you won't want to get up once it starts. This drama will have you guessing from the start as to what will happen next. The characters are a little bit seedy, but both the characters and the story seem more realistic than anything you'll see in something like Blue Velvet or Pulp Fiction [which are great films regardless]. The obvious lesbian/gay themes are not particularly overstated, although the film could have reached a wider audience if it didn't ultimately rely on the standard "strong gay woman kills evil weak straight man" theme to assure it's success in some circles. Nonetheless this movie is a solid 8.5 out of 10.

Skipped Parts

Very, very bad
This movie is so awful that it is hard to decide where to start when criticizing it, as it fails on so many levels. It doesn't have any likeable characters, it fails to entertain, it fails to provide an accurate portrayal of the early 1960's, and it fails to provide any type of positive message. About the only thing it does well is misrepresent what life was like in America in 1963. The characters are all extreme stereotypes. The viewer is supposed to believe that the children are smarter than all of the adults, but at the same time the children manage to find plenty of trouble by acting foolishly. The sad thing is that the actors turned in good performances, but it was pointless as the movie seemed to be written with the "life sucks so why even try to be decent" mentality. Don't even rent it.

Pleasantville
(1998)

Laughably preachy
Great idea, terrible movie. This movie was way too preachy. Rather than entertain, this movie chooses to present moronic stereotyped characters instead of anyone with any type of accountability. There are a number of places where you will find it very hard not to laugh out loud at the movie's condescending nature. The first 30 minutes is actually somewhat interesting but the movie falls apart fast and goes nowhere, and worst of all, it drags on. Nice video by Fionna Apple on the dvd, though.

Dogma
(1999)

As boring as it gets
Jay and Silent Bob totally fall flat on their face in this one. It was was sooooooo slow and boring. Even Chris Rock falling out of the sky couldn't save this overlong snoozefest. The funniest part was when one of the the lead characters shot a bunch of people with machine guns for being immoral. Yes, it was that bad. This movie will leave you begging for Clerks, Chasing Amy or even Mallrats. If you can sit through this movie you have absolutely nothing to do.
