Die Hard
(1988)

Boring topped with an illogical cop
It is such a terribly boring movie. I will never understand how this is a highly-regarded film especially when the script, direction & acting is so illogical. John McClane has got to be the most stupid cop around. His actions are illogical & downright stupid. He shouts when he should be quiet. He holds when he should shoot to kill. He talks loudly when he isn;t even sure if the bad guys are searching for him. His wife, who is one of the hostage, proudly exposes his identity twice to her colleagues. The FBI are a bunch of jokers suitable to act in Home Alone movies as dumb villains. Bruce Willis, handsome as he is the movie, gives the "hero" look far too often making it look stupid.

I couldn't bring myself to finish watching this idiotic movie. To all those who think this is a piece of art, I sympathize with you. Don't worry. There are people who think Twilight Series is genius too.

Edit: I watched CinemaSins video on Youtube titled "Everything Wrong with Die Hard" after I wrote this review. That video points out additional idiocies with this movie.

Stopped watching after 1.5 episodes (Minor Spoiler not beyond Ep-1)
A glaring stupidity made me stop watching this. At the end of Episode -1 who recorded the tape & how?

I will come to it. (If you want to jump directly to it, go to the para beginning with **) Ok so, first, the color grading is really bad. It is like a newly trained Video Editor just splashed some cinematic LUT onto the footage without caring for the skies & surrounding atmosphere. The look & music are so obviously influenced by True Detective. Though most characters & their motivations seemed cliched (Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Lestrade), the series began well with episode 1. Episode 1, however, made it clear Hindu customs were gonna be entrenched in the Villain's motivation. Writer Directors, for all their fake guts, have zero courage to target other religions in the same way they regularly do Hinduism.

**Episode-1 ends with the killer killing Arshad Warsi's wife & sending him the tape recording. The actual recording shows the killing from multiple angles. So the killer used multiple cameras; alongwith some panning & dollying too!. This was beyond ludicrous. It looks childish. Now, it can only be explained by 2 things.

1. Either the Director messed up. If that is the case then I have zero hope for the series & I am sure I will be served more nonsense in future episodes, if this basic thing is so haphazardly done.

2. Very improbable but there was a helper of the killer who was shooting with multiple cameras in order to record the killing. In that case, I worry about the credibility of the top cops & the one protagonist working with FBI who joins CBI for this case since absolutely no one questions "Who shot the killing & how?".

My wait for a good Indian series continues. Dependent on how well fed you are on stupid Indian shows you may like or even love it. some reviews online are making me facepalm.

Absolute garbage
Save your time. Give this one a miss. I expected it to be an average entertainer but it was ridiculously stupid. The end "twist" is embarrassingly idiotic & utterly predictable. Its a wafer thin plot (illogical to begin with) stretched over an unfunny hour.

Its not only low on budget but also on ideas & situations. The 'professional' crew behaves erratically. The 'dumb' crew is annoying. I couldn't wait for the ending just to see what is finally revealed. And it was a mess. I cannot speak for the other flowery reviews, but do not expect a logical plot out of this. Its a story strewn together to appear both funny & intelligent. Sadly its none.

Urf Professor
(2001)

Boring.
When you hear about that "lil movie" that couldn't be released but is exceedingly good, you want to watch it & really root for that "underdog". I was glad I watched PAANCH after a similar word-of-mouth. It is a movie par-excellence (well except for the ending bit). When I 1st heard about Urf Professor, I had similar feelings about a great underdog-of-a-movie buzzing at the internet forums. But, it was a thorough disappointment, to say the least.

The only plus point (!!!) of this movie is the titillating dialog which I am sure are more freely available in any C-grade flick. Otherwise the movie is a boring affair shot on Video. Try not to get sucked in by those saying its a GREAT movie or something. Its no where near. Save yourself some time & avoid this b-grade trash.

Super 8
(2011)

This Super-(8)-GARBAGE gets 8+ rating on IMDb!
Several other reviewers have aptly said what all I want to say about this pathetic excuse of a movie. The movie is boring, stupid & an utter thrash. Why SS would associate himself with it, we might never know.

The story meanders along slowly. The scenes are SUPER clichéd. You just know whats going to happen next. Majority of the film is in dark. Its annoying just like the other one produced by JJ, Cloverfield. The monster is always in the dark & we only get to see its glimpses & when we do its so frickin ugly that that in itself is a huge turn-off.

I don't know what people see in such stupid film-making that the rating goes 8+. I hope it will settle around a number that it truly deserves.

This isn't homage to Spielberg. Its an insult. SS classics not only had a good story & great direction but the monsters/aliens/dinosaurs were also "visible" in broad day light. Shooting in dark with few cut scenes of the "selling-point" of your movie is worst kind of film-making.

Shagird
(2011)

Fail
This movie desperately tries to be "Ab Tak Chhappan" but fails miserably. Nana is brilliant as can be expected. But Mohit still remains a non-actor. The movie fails because of a convoluted script which tries to be smart & because of a totally inept & incompetent director trying to helm things which certainly seem to be out of his forte (whatever that might be). I had hoped this one would be at least enjoyable than the usual Bollywood trash (with Ranbir's Shahids Imrans Akshays, Salmans SRKs et al) but I was severely disappointed. I can now gleefully strike off the director from my "looking-forward-to" list.

If you want to watch Nana at his 'cop best', watch Ab Tak Chhappan - good lil movie with a decent script. Avoid Shagird.

Horrible Cinematography - DOF is unbearable
The cinematography is anything but good. The Depth of Field (DOF) is a very important tool in a film-makers arsenal. It is used to make the audiences' eye see what the director wants it to see by softly blurring the background information. However, the DOF used in this movie is just horrible. It is very shallow, thus blurring the background strongly. It might be excusable at times but this blur stays in effect even when the camera is following the actor from behind. These are the times when the audience checks out the surrounding. But hey cant do it. Why? 'Cuz Its blurred.

Also several times when the shot cuts to a different character speaking (in 2-way conversation) it starts with the other character totally blurred who then gradually comes into focus. This hurts the eye. Its like watching a kids very 1st effort at film-making. The cinematography is plain amateurish.

As for the story, it is slow, dull & boring. I was taken in by the premise and though I didn't expect greatness I did expect something worth my time. It wasn't there. Not good. Disappointed.
