Day of the Dead: Bloodline
(2017)

Okay zombie movie
Seems like other reviewers plagiarized one another without forming their own opinions.

Acting - is so-so. Not good, but good enough.

Story - some reviewers complained about the story or plot, but it's around the same quality as the original.

Smart zombie- another reviewer complained about the zombies being too smart. Well none of the zombies were smart. There was one character who LOOKED like a zombie, but wasn't. He was partially immune to the zombie virus and had certain systems of his body succumb to the virus, while retaining some higher level brain function.

All in all, it's not that good, but not nearly as bad as what other reviewers are claiming. I can see why someone might give it a 4 or 5 if they we're expecting Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later. But a 1 - 3 is certainly out of the question.

They Live in the Grey
(2022)

Most depressing horror movie
Heavily flawed movie. But, some of the ideas and scenes stood out enough to make me want to see this movie again one day. Just look past things like the husband's partner looking more like a homless Charles Manson than a police officer. And, I'd actually believe in ghosts before I'd believe that a civil servant CPS worker can be fired on the spot without any warning. But with elements of 6th Sense and some of the life after death and ghost scenes, it's worth watching.

Kill List
(2011)

Slow religious cult movie, depressing at the end
The acting was believable and dialog natural. Decent story, but it reminded me of one of those 70s-80s satanic cult movies that just seemed to be too unreasonable and unreal to ever be remotely plausible. You have to spend the 1st 15 minutes or so listening to the couple bicker and argue - something that bores me to no end during a movie. There were no scary moments, or anything supernatural, so I can't see this as a horror film. When guy's son and wife are killed and it's all his doing, it wasn't scary, just very sad.

Transylvania 6-5000
(1985)

Not funny, not scary
This movie holds no value for me at all. Although I like comedy-horror like Shaun of the Dead and Scary Movie 3, nothing about this movie was funny. Although comedy-horror doesn't need a good storyline to be a good movie, this one's overly convenient ending would have had a better effect if the supposed monsters were actually scary. I only give this a 4 because of the great cast. Otherwise, it would be a lower rating.

Dead Shack
(2017)

Decent zombies, not silly, just good one liners
The first few minutes of the movie gave me the impression that it wouldn't be good. I'm glad I continued. I usually don't like comedy horror because it's usually just silly. But, the only comedy was in some of the dialog. And they really got off some funny lines. But the threat was serious and zombies were not comical. Not a great movie, but entertaining throughout and definitely worth watching.

Horsehead
(2014)

Well done! (like when my ex-wife burnt the pot roast)
This movie is indeed well done! The acting was good, the scenes and locations were perfect! The symbolism. And just the general quality of the movie was outstanding! I just had difficulty knowing what was going on much of the time. Also, there wasn't good flow for me. I had to watch it separate days to finish. Horsehead was a beautiful piece of cinematic art that wasn't that entertaining as a movie.

Yummy
(2019)

Most disturbing movie since Dead Alive
Whoever made this movie just did all the horrible things you'd imagine in a surgery center during a zombie outbreak. But they did so with high quality zombies and without being ridiculous like some movies get. The acting was decent, storyline okay, but some of the detail and work that went into it stands out, like the language they created just for the movie. I'd really like to see more like this.

Darkness Visible
(2019)

Good, but slow
Darkness Visible was a good movie, but it took a few days of coming back to it because it went very slow. The storyline, acting, location/set were all good. As for the story, I wouldn't say this is a knock off, but it reminded me of Angel Heart.

Wendigo
(2001)

Almost worth watching
The acting, scenes, story, etc were basically what I like in a horror movie. What ruined it was just that it seemed basically like a movie more about unfriendly rednecks making a family from the city uncomfortable. There was a monster briefly, but he's not supposed to be scary, just came to help? It was very slow-moving, and a little depressing in the end.

Had they made the monster more integral throughout the movie and bumped up the speed a bit with more scary scenes, it would probably be good.

The Inheritance
(2020)

Quality movie where not much happens
Good acting, decent story, great setting, creepy, mysterious, yet not climatic. Things build up in both the supernatural and in the real world parts if the story, then very little happens. The story has some depth, but doesn't really clarify exactly what's going on. This had the makings of a great movie. I wish they could have put more excitement and interest into it.

Vdova
(2020)

Okay movie
This is not like Blair Witch, nor is it found footage, I can't stand those. The dubbing wasn't bad, not like the 70s Kung Fu films. No gore, just creepiness and uneasy. It's not great, but worth seeing.

Solar Impact
(2019)

Worth watching if you like zombie movies
There were some different scenes I could do without, with horrible dialog. And the main character could be annoying because he was unrealistically slow in his decision making . But, the scenery was extraordinary, much of the acting decent, appropriate music, and a few imaginative ideas were implemented. The main premise of how the zombie virus broke out was just plain ridiculous. But that wasn't the focus of the story. The adventurous travel and how they went about it was analogous, but different enough from other zombie movies to make it worth watching. To be honest though, I don't watch zombie movies for the their deeply profound, thought provoking plots. I just like to see how different characters handle different situations. I recommend this movie and glad I saw it. However, it probably isnt good enough to watch a second time.

Asylum
(2008)

Nothing entertaining at all
If you're scared of creepy and abandoned asylums, this movie will cure you of it. The acting is okay, the story doesn't usually matter much to me in a really good horror movie, but the dialog and boring villain make this a very dull film.

The Curse of Hobbes House
(2020)

Good enough for a Zombie movie
A zombie movie doesn't need a good story, but this one is pretty decent. The acting was believable and the location was fitting. The only thing wrong was that there wasn't enough excitement. So I would say It's worth watching, but don't expect anything great. The story segues along at the end to imply that this is only the beginning. Although movie was a bit weak, I see potential if they could de a better job on a sequel (at this point, I probably got some gasps from other less impressed reviewers). I gave it a 5 because I'm glad I saw it but probably won't see it again though.

Mara
(2018)

Decent movie
The acting was good enough to really get me into the story, which despite what others have said in reviews, is good as well. The special effects were decent, and Mara was scary. But where I think the movie falls short is that excitingly terrifying momentum that pushes movies like Darkness Falls. Not that I'm saying that movie was a masterpiece or anything, but it propelled you through the story and kept the creepiness at a high level. From my point of view, sleep paralysis is a very relevant basis for a storyline because people have actually experienced it for at least hundreds of years, are still experiencing it today, and it's terrifying in real life, without even a movie even being made about it - i.e. It's real. This would have easily been a 7 or 8 had it kept up the momentum. Only that has made me feel it's a 6. For me, a 4 means I've wasted my time. A 5 means it was worth seeing and I enjoyed the movie but probably wouldn't want to see it again. And a 6 means I liked it enough that I may see it again one day. It's certainly worth watching in any case.

Playhouse
(2020)

Possibly worth watching
The scenery and castle were nice to see. The acting was certainly decent if not good. The story wasn't spectacular, but that's not why I watch these. Although there were a couple of creepy parts that were good, it could have used some more horror aspects. It's definitely worth watching if you aren't looking for an enthralling movie.

Unsane
(2018)

Unbelievable
This shouldn't be categorized as horror. I realized this about half way through, but kept watching because the characters were interesting and unpredictable. It sort of had a double plot going which kept me thinking as well. It was about half way that I had wondered if anyone else mentioned that is wasn't scary, when I found out that this movie was made with an iPhone and almost no budget! Unbelievable (as I mentioned before). I give this a 5 because it's a decent movie regardless of the circumstances. But a much higher rating if you consider how it was made! Great job!!!

The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death
(2014)

Worth watching, but don't expect a lot
Outstanding mood, props, scenery, decor, and the music and acting is really good (as far as a non-professional such as myself can tell). But, the story doesn't seem that good, or at least not explained that well. Then again, I don't need a great story in a horror film, that would be a bonus for me. It's just not that scary. Don't expect a really good movie, but it's worth seeing.

The Last Hope
(2020)

Not as bad as it seems
For a zombie movie, the storyline is pretty good. Some of the acting is decent as well, some is pretty bad. Had this been made with a much better flow with smoother transitions, less verbose speeches, camera angles that make more sense instead of looking like a home movie, it might get up to a 6 or 7 rating. At one point, there was a long speech by a main character with the left hand side of the screen obscured by some guy's head. The actor reciting the speech didn't do a bad job of it, but the dialog was overdone and a long speech at that time was uncalled for. There were a few really good ideas in the movie that gone to waste since the film could have been refined into something much better.

Alone
(2020)

Decent zombie movie
Judging by other reviews, I guess I'm a bit odd since I'm not looking for some deep and meaningful plot in a zombie movie. I appreciated the twist of the infected's mental state, that was interesting. Also, the protagonist is scared, makes failed attempts and therefore gave me a better sense of what might happened, had it been me in his situation. In my own rating system, I give a 5 when the movie is only worth seeing once, less than 5 is a waste of time, and a 6 if I'll see it again in the future. 7 if it's so good that I feel the need to buy it. In these types of movies, a good storyline is a bonus. My primary interest is being entertained by the situation itself. And for that, it's worth watching again.

Inoperable
(2017)

Decent story, not well made
If you look past some of the unnatural dialog and a bit less than believable acting of some of the cast, you may think it's a typical time-loop slasher. About halfway through, the movie was barely holding my interest at all. But, I'm glad I saw it through to the end because the story became interesting as it progressed. It ends kind of sad, and kind of thought provoking. Overall, It was worth seeing for me, but may not be for less patient people.

Revenant
(2012)

I agree with other reviews
The acting is borderline believable. The script doesn't contain natural dialogue and sounded forced by the cast. The scary effects could be done by an amateur. However, some of the creepy events were pulled off pretty good. This is the movie's only redeeming quality. This made the movie worth watching, and only reason why I rate it at a 5. But, I probably won't ever see it again.

Boogeyman
(2005)

Good horror movie if you're not a film critic.
I wish I were an expert in camera angles and story plot nuances, so I could give a methodical critique. But, I just like horror movies. The unknown is scary, which may be why we're afraid of the dark. Nowadays, it's expected that every detail of a story or character have some deep meaning that surfaces. For me, it's scarier if some things aren't. If you know the monster and too well, you'll end up not being afraid after the movie is over. And where's the fun in that?! This movie has some scary moments and extreme creepiness. The acting is believable, even good from my point of view. The sets, location and storyline are well above average. I rate a movie only worth watching once, a 5. Worth watching again, a 6. One that I want to own, 7. I put this above most horror movies.

A Stranger Among the Living
(2019)

I wish there were more movies like this.
The storyline is somewhat like final destination, only more horro-like. So the storyline isn't unique. The acting isn't that good, but good enough to be believable. It appears that there is absolutely no budget beyond a tank of gas for the main character's car. Somebody called this a slow-moving ghost story and that's a good way of putting it. So when something happens, maybe that's why it's even more intense. This, coupled with all the creepiness, makes the movie kind of scary. I can see that if somebody perused these same techniques, there could be more like it. So if everything is mediocre or less, why a decent rating? Because it's a little creepy at times, and was entertaining enough for me to keep watching until the end. As slow as it was, it never got boring.

The Giving Tree
(2000)

High quality nonsense
They took a few really good actors/actresses, handed them overly dramatic parts, added some decent music, and then bored the crap out of me by have them sitting around smoking cigarettes and getting irritated with one another. Most of this movie is small talk and the pouring out of emotions. There is rape and some things in the story, but I think that was to keep the audience awake. To me, a rating of 5 means it was worth watching, but only once. This movie wasn't worth seeing, so I gave it a 4.
