It was entertaining and a solid look at the evolution of music and music video through the 1980's.
It covers all of the genres from new wave to hip hop to rock and all of the most important artists. It covers the impact of music videos on music and culture. The rise of MTV.
1980's music was special, and ultimately it was about the music itself. That's why it endures even today. Most of it was great, groundbreaking stuff that stood the test of time.
The only thing that shocked me about it was that it didn't mention Phil Collins or Genesis once, who you literally could not escape no matter where you turned in the 80's which you'll remember if you lived at the time. Weird omission!

First of all, I am a conservative. I like Reagan a lot, but was too young to vote for him. I voted for Trump three times. I say this to emphasize that I'm not biased against the movie because it portrays a Republican in a good light.
I just wasn't that impressed with the film as a film. Quaid himself does a really good job emulating Reagan, but otherwise the acting from most others tends to be rather stiff, and so is most of the dialogue.
It also is so overly-glowing towards Mr. Reagan that it refuses to allow even the slightest hint of a character flaw. Makes it all feel a bit saccharine. It makes his character portrayal in the film a bit boring. He's almost like a superhero. Nobody is perfect, not even Ronald Reagan.
But it's not a bad watch. Big Reagan fans should love it.

Decent acting, decent story, but this should have been a two hour movie. Not a four season TV show. It just drags on most of the time, painfully.
This general formula is common these days. Someone has a good idea for a movie, but it gets turned into a multi-season snoozefest instead when there was absolutely no reason to do so.
It's an obsession with creating "bingeable" TV drama, even if it means it's at the expense of the content. It needs to end. There is so much filler garbage here that I couldn't get through it.
Some content does lend itself well to being bingeable and consistently interesting. True Detective is unfortunately not that.
