Royal Pains
(2009)

One of the top medical series
Some of my other recent picks would be Nurse Jackie and Nip and Tuck. Thus far we are into season 5, and have developed a strong interest in the characters. I'd say that The Hamptons must be one of the most unhealthy places to live given the frequency of rare diseases - however they are luckily nipped in the bud by the good doctor and team.

Hank, Evan, Divia are the core of the solid cast. Henry Winkler is fabulous as the father. The back story of Boris is thus far a constant and developing, as are the amorous relationships of the core cast members (not among the cast members yet). The new "nerdy" doctor is a welcome addition whose social ineptness plays well against the stellar social and communication skills of the others. At this point the stars seem to be bringing him and Divia together but it remains to be seen if they collide and explode!

The settings is amazing, and the acting excellent - we look forward to each episode. The frequency of patients falling down and convulsing does get a bit hilarious at times - but I guess that's part of its charm, and doesn't detract from it's top standing in my mind.

Less Than Kind
(2008)

Must see!
This is a really funny series! Haven't had as many belly laughs from a show for quite a while. The writing (and acting) may be as good as breaking bad or mad men, though admittedly it's a comedy - the characters are not as deep. However they are deep enough. I'm only through 3 episodes.

By the way, the rating system where 10 = excellent - seems a bit low. Meaning 10 should be exceptional, and 9 could be excellent. I'd give this a 9.5 certainly. But I gave it a 10 because it is at least excellent.

The fellow from Winnipeg who gave it a 1, not sure if he's a self-hating Winnipeger, or just from the planet humourless, but something has got his goat. I would ignore that rating if you like witty writing, a bit of a slapstick presentation and good colourful characters.

Bollywood Hero
(2009)

Lots to like about this:
The long dark haired leading ladies The "dream" dance sequences The plot line The Indian street life The Indian characters The clash and mash of Bollywood and Hollowwood culture

Playing with Kattan's own imbecilic character, the leading man though no hero realizes something about himself in the end. Although going to India originally to lose himself, something about India taught him a lesson about who he is that he couldn't learn in the USA for whatever reason.

This movie as some heart, some joy, some love and humour. It has a certain essence of India which winds through it and gives it life. Unfortunately, though Chris Kattan is perhaps the least tolerable part of all this, he fulfils a role around which the rest of the memorable presentation revolves.
