Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

  • Good movie, adaption not as good as it could have been however.

The Lightning Thief was a well-directed movie with excellent use of angles, techniques, locations, and color schemes. Wonderful costumes and a exceptional cast, although there was much controversy over Alexandra Daddario playing Annabeth instead of someone like Anna-Sophia Robb who fit the psychical description.

Script writers had quite a task on their hands to make a lengthy book into a movie, however I felt like they could have done something to make the movie please the die-hard fans of the book. Story line was changed almost completely when it could have easily been more faithful to the book, seeing as the events that occur in Percy, Annabeth, and Grover's adventure to find the stolen bolt could have been considerably shortened in length while keeping the original story very prominent.

As for visual effects, they were pleasingly good. There were few instances in which I noticed backgrounds or a green screen being used, of course I'm the sort of person who pays attention to that.

Straying once again to the subject of the actors, they performed very well (especially Lerman. Daddario's performance could have been much more convincing), although their age and appearance (other than Logan Lerman who plays Percy and Chiron) were not exactly how the millions of readers pictured them. Their looks were different, hair color, body type, and race were noticeable things with the characters who weren't developed enough in the film for us to really consider them the Luke or Annabeth or Grover or Poseidon from the story.

  • Amazing Directing, Captivating Plot, Overall Great

I had the privilege of seeing this movie before it came out, and, like most of DiCaprio's films, it blew me away.

Inception is a well-made movie, filmed in about 6 locations all over the world. The directing was outstanding, there were only about two moments, maybe three seconds in total, where i noticed that visual effects were being used (of course defying gravity is pretty difficult).

The plot was very pleasingly intricate, with a twist-and-turn, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat type feel. I noticed that this film had similarities with DiCaprios thriller Shutter Island (which i also enjoyed very much)seeing as it left you wondering what was real and what was not. It's great to see a movie with a thick and emotional plot and not just grenade-throwing action heroes who achieve greatness in the end.

Inception also has a very well-composed score, which to me was the finishing touch to a perfect movie. If you're thinking about seeing Inception, definitely go! Even though i was fortunate enough to see a free show, it is worth every penny you pay.

Truly unique, like nothing i've ever seen before. Christopher Nolan certainly covered new ground with this film and wasn't afraid to leave us hanging with a spectacular ending.

  • Nick and Cassie, two super-humans with intriguing powers, set off in search of Kira, a 'Pusher' who is trying to outrun the government agency, Division.

This movie is excellent, and one of my favorites. It's exciting, action-packed, and a thrill ride overall The stylistic nature of this film makes it monumental. With magnificent uses of color and settings. For example, settings are made to fit scenes. There is a clean, white atmosphere in Nick's fathers office during a flashback, and a colorful, crowded, and jumbled atmosphere in Hong Kong during intense and exciting scenes. The most phenomenal part of this movie was most definitely the score. If it weren't for the score, i probably would not be writing this now. This is the first movie that i have noticed the score so profoundly in. Don't get me wrong, the movie isn't reliant on it, but it certainly adds a certain unique tone to the movie.
