So bizarre is this film, six of us were in the screen when I watched it, and three walked out about 40 minutes into it, and too be fair, I can understand, this film is horror, comedy, satire and political drama, you get all of that, thanks to Evan Johnson, Galen Johnson and Guy Maddin. All three writing and directing this madness.
This is Guy Maddin, all over, so I expected it weird and arthouse, not making any real sense neither, well ,some kid of plot, which is there, thanks to the acting of Cate Blanchett, Charles Dance, and others with Alicia Vikander doing a some very odd work here. The cast had some real work to do in this, and with the most strangest dialogue and situations this year, it was not a total loss, not one to walk out on, if you knew what to expect, as I did.
Not in the worst film this year, that goes too 'The Crow', not sure if this is one that really will pull in much crowds, which is why it has such a limited showing. Had to travel a bit for this one and find good time as well, was not doing the 9pm slots that most cinemas are showing it.

This is a fantasy supernatural film, and it's good. It starts off as a drama about a new mother and her son, but is much, much, more, thanks to Director Marielle Heller, and Heller again, with Rachel Yoder, both on writing duty. Amy Adams is the mother who really must put up with a quite a bit of baby mischief and Scoot McNairy, who was playing a father in 'Speak No Evil' a few months ago, is in his element here.
There are lots and lots of dogs, and Amy acting like a dog, it's all very strange and funny, plus it's compelling because of it's premise. And it's based on a book, so go have a read of that, I just wonder how out there that book is, never the less, it's very good, different cinema, with great photography and narrative.
Amy Adams is the draw and the along with the baby boy, both eat the screen up. A very enjoyable and strange film that plays with time and space, well.

This is a super film from writer director Yihui Shao, which has been so popular that every showing has sold out, I finally managed a seat today and it was well worth it, this might be the best film from China this year, so I do recommend it.
This drama about a parent and daughter, the next door neighbour female trio has everything, soul searching, plenty of laughs, full on great story and acting, some very good looking shots too. Jia Song, Elane Zhong and Isabella Zeng are the main three who are on full on top form with the juicy script that is just full of delight, Zeng really steals the film and holds her own. The men are not left out, Mark Chao and Yu Zhang deliver as well, and are just plain out and out funny, and given the situations for all involved, you just have to follow the madness of the ups and downs of the cast.
As this is spoiler free, I can't write anything more on the plot, but it is such a well made film I do say it was worth seeing and worth the wait.
