Apocalypse Now
(1979)

The greatest war film of all time.
Apocalypse now is the greatest war film and one of the great classics. It's themes and ruminations about society, war and the human psyche during the counter culture era resonate stronger than ever today. Francis Ford Coppola's daring vision is supported by excellent performances by the cast, grandiose cinematography and rich storytelling. One might argue that Apocalypse Now tries to do everything at once and that's true but it's also what makes it one of the most original films on war. The true measure of a great war film is not about making us root for one side against the other, it's about meditating on the nature of war and the human condition itself. Francis Ford Coppola does this astutely and masterfully.

The Departed
(2006)

Excellent.
An endlessly entertaining film that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. The performances are pitch perfect and Scorsese's mastery shines throughout.

Breaking Bad
(2008)

Heartless, unemphatic, brilliant.
Breaking Bad had a slow start. The first season took some time to get used to. The second season became interesting, and the third and fourth make it one of the finest dramas of all time. What's so interesting about Breaking Bad is that you simply cannot take any character's side and stay partial to him/her. The story picks up pace brilliantly as seasons progress. One of the major assets of this show is its razor sharp and quite splendid characterization.

Quite simply, Breaking Bad is one of the finest, American television has had to offer after the likes of Six Feet Under, The Sopranos and AMC's very own Mad Men.
