For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada
(2012)

Great production, great story!
Official Mexican history has long erased this chapter form it's books. Now this production brings the truth to a greater audience with a masterful movie.

The plot is guided by a very acute sense of truth and this movie has benefited from the help of Jean Meyer, possibly the top authority in the subject of the "cristiada".

Special kudos must go to Mauricio Kuri (Jose Sanchez del Rio) for an impressive performance and the undoubtedly excellent Andy Garcia (Enrique Gorostieta).

Yes, the movie takes some historical liberties, but all the important facts (and a lot of non-important ones) are very historic.

Moving, attractive, accurate, pleasing to eye and mind, this is a must see.

Ella y el Candidato
(2011)

Clean, clear, deep meaningful message
The opening of this movie in Mexico goes par in time with the growing interest in political campaigns for the presidential election in 2012 and, as such, the main line of this movie is immediately interesting.

But the message comes as a surprise: it is not a political movie, the plot does not circle around the negotiations, arrangements and treachery so common in this kind of movies, but instead hinges on the more important subject of family, unity and the relevance of honesty and integrity.

Don't be confused, it is not a moral exposition but a display of excellent photography, well chosen music and Lorena's (the female star) work is superb (the same can't be said of Luis Fernando, the Candidate, that while having a fitting character is not on the same level).

All in all it is a very refreshing and touching movie. Several simple and funny puns make for a good laugh; more than a few scenes really make you cry, and there are moments when you want to shout to the Candidate that he is a fool and hasn't noticed yet. An enjoyable movie that makes you think about about important matters, with an eloquent message.

And it is so nice to have Mexican-made movies that are more human, more "ordinary", more in touch with a positive view of life: this movie is a good example of this excellent quality of a Director to be profound and at the same time in touch with ordinary, everyday life, not just the extraordinary happenings present on so many productions.
