Wicked, Wicked
(1973)

Better than you may think
I find this movie very interesting. I love the split screen. There is plenty to look at and plenty of story to pay attention to.

The entire cast is excellent in their roles.

The Coronado Hotel is a fabulous setting for this film.

The music is reminiscent of a silent film with true theaters organ accompaniment. The music being the original theaters organ score for The Phantom of the Opera, and it works completely. The action scenes and the organ music match up perfectly. The modern music works well too.

This is an very unusual and unique movie that deserves a look, but unlike most of todays films where I see a lot of people texting through the whole thing, Wicked-Wicked works best if you pay attention to both screens. This film has a lot of story to tell.

Although this movie contains violent murders, it is still quite a lot of fun. Think Satire, not comedy.

This had to be difficult to film,, direct, edit, and keep everything flowing as well as it does. It is Technically brilliant.

This film is from the past, when variety in entertainment was the norm, people took chances, directors experimented, and CGI had yet to be thought of.

Cinderella
(1997)

One of the best made for TV musicals ever.
I have so much praise for this movie.

It is hard to complain about the overly politically correct casting of this movie because everyone in it is simply terrific.

Brandy is outstanding in her role as Cinderella.

Whitney Houston is also outstanding as the Fairy Godmother.

The step-sisters are so entertaining and funny.

The modernized, up-to-date music score lifts the old style out of the past and into the future. The big production dance numbers are great.

The sets and costumes are exactly as they should be, right out of a fairy tale, and simply beautiful. The whole production has A wonderful vision of color and space.

Technically this movie is outstanding in its' creativity. The camera-work at the Ball is among the finest that I have ever seen. The camera actually dances along with the characters, using the same steps the dancers are using. You have to see it to believe it.

The special effects are also great. The effects that sparkle have sparkling spirals in them. It is very creative and surprisingly unexpected too.

I wish this film had been released to the theaters, I would love to see it on the big, big screen. My screen is 72 inches but I would like to see it on a 30 to 40 foot screen.

There is nothing to date this movie, Its' excellent Production Values, Artistry, and Creativity should should allow it to live on forever as a classic.

A Christmas Carol
(2009)

Too many additives and not enough substance
The potential was here for a true, timeless, family classic, but giving in to too many silly, extra, and unneeded 'Disney' touches spoiled this movie for me.

Christmas Present could have been a beautiful scene, the creativity of the lighting and the movement of the lighting was outstanding, but the character was a laughing fool, laughing at nothing, laughing at everything, always laughing. It wasn't jolly or happy, just mindless laughing. I grew tired of this scene in a hurry.

Having Scrooge trip and slide on a giant icicle was ridiculous.

Scrooge flying through the air making numerous ugly faces was again ridiculous.

Scrooge flying over London could have been beautiful and fantastic, but everything was moving way too fast, you can't get a good look at anything, another waste of a good scene.

The Horses and funeral wagon racing through the streets chasing Scrooge was another long ridiculous scene.

The overall tone of the film was OK, just too much extra non-essential action made the movie too long, and too predictable for me.

The dead looking eyes also bothered me.

They tried to make it look realistic, but then gave in to many cartoon elements, far removed from the original story. The cartoonish elements take away from the realism.

Too many additives and not enough substance will keep this movie from being the classic it could have been.

I do not want to watch this movie again.

Let's Make Love
(1960)

This film stinks, don't wast your time!
I understand well, what this film is supposed to be BUT, This film is horrible. Marilyn Monroe looks terrible, her body is pink, but her face is caked with white makeup, it looks like she is wearing a mask. Also, her face is all puffy. She seems to be sleepwalking through the whole movie. The production values are missing, ex. the writing is the worst, also poor lighting, framing, the musical numbers are lifeless, the directing and acting is poor, I guess George Cukor was getting too old and tired, and couldn't get the actors to give their best. I think the main problem is that the material was just too poor to make anything worthwhile out of it. To really see Marilyn at her best and check out that dress she wears, WOW! watch SOME LIKE IT HOT!

Finian's Rainbow
(1968)

worth another look
I was one of the many that did not like this film when it first came out. There were so many things I didn't like about it that I won't name them all, but those are some of the same things that I have grown to love about this film. First there are no sets to speak of, the whole movie is set outdoors. There are only two scenes inside a building. The color and photography are beautiful. Copolla did a great job keeping this film interesting without the help of sets. The shot of Fred Astaire's face when he opens his bag in the dark woods is absolutely amazing. He has two big production numbers and they are great. I think He was 68 years old when he made this film, and I didn't expect Fred Astaire to dance like he did 30 years earlier. He gets a chance to shine in this film with his usual likable self. Petula Clark has been one of my favorite performers for many years. Her voice is so sweetly beautiful and the songs she gets to sing are some of the best ever written for a musical. She is perfect in her part, I really wish she had made more musicals. She was also in GOODBYE MISTER CHIPS, and I think she shines in that role too. Tommy Steele is quite good, he really looks like Austin Powers without the glasses. Keenan Wynn is in fine form and is always fun to watch. The rest of the cast is wonderful. This film has it's problems, and I imagine lack of money was the top problem. The orchestrations are excellent. The cast and crew did their best to overcome the problems with this film and I think they did a superb job. I am very happy that I finally revisited Finian's Rainbow, It has become one of my favorite musicals. If you like musicals, see this one. I must add, Rainbow Valley is in Kentucky as is Fort Knox, not Tennessee as reported by another reviewer

The Station Agent
(2003)

Definitely a Winner
Since this movie has already been described I wont waste time with any more of it by telling the story and about the characters. I started watching this film with doubts that I would like it, but I gave it a chance, and I'm really glad I did. This movie succeeds on many levels. The whole cast is excellent, but the three main actors are exceptional in their parts, and they kept me interested till the end. I thought the writing and direction was very good. This movie has many moments of truth and honesty, that I find refreshing in the midst of all the hyped-up, phony, horribly acted, digitized movies of today. The photography was interesting and the music, quirky as it was, (I heard a musical saw in the score) fit the film. To me this was a work of love from all the people involved, and it was very satisfying to watch. I have seen it many times now, thanks.

Goodbye, Mr. Chips
(1969)

Love this Movie!
I love this movie because every single element of it is nothing less than excellent. I will quickly praise a few of them. Peter O'Toole gives us one of his great performances as he becomes the definitive Mr. Chips. Petula Clark, has a beautiful voice and is perfect as Katharine. The director was able to bring the story to the screen in a fresh new way. Combine that with the fantastic and creative cinematography, editing, writing, etc., and you have a film that shows the fine quality of its production. I can't praise the well-planned camera work enough, it moves us up and around, zooming in and out, giving us the best views of, and letting the locations become part of the scene. Petula Clark's last song 'YOU AND I' is just 3 beautifully composed long takes, and in this era of 2 second takes, I can appreciate the extra care that everyone involved had to give to get those long scenes perfect. The music is great, and the songs move the story along just as they should. Leslie Bricusse is one of my favorite composers. Listen to these songs, how could anyone not like them? This is a very romantic story between two people nearing middle age that find each other, bring out the best in each other, and it lasts till the end of their lives. Excellent production values, acting, camera work, and music, make this movie well worth watching.

Evil Unleashed
(2003)

Almost Great, but One Big Flaw
This movie was almost great for me.

As a fan of 3D movies, I could hardly wait to get this movie on DVD.

I have seen 9 of the 3D movies produced by David Sterling, and I have enjoyed 6 of them very much. I was hoping this one would be the best yet! It has one serious flaw that I will get to later.

"Evil Unleashed" has a very appealing cast, in fact the most appealing of the 9 I've seen. The production values, except for the "one serious flaw", are very good considering the low budget. The acting is very good too, sometimes comical, but that is part of it's appeal.

I love the "dancing" mummy. I found those sequences to be the most erotic of any of these movies, and the dance always ends in a bloody, gory, murder.

The music is also the best yet, and the music for the dancing mummy fits perfectly. I wanted more!

I bought this movie because it was in 3D, and here is the "ONE SERIOUS FLAW", only "KEY" scenes are in real 3D, most of the movie is in 2D or flat, and converted to a horrible fake 3D.

Real 3D is what makes any of these movies better than they are, why they chose to use fake 3D at all is a mystery to me. I hate fake 3D, it ruins any movie it is applied to. Real 3D is fantastic!!!!

If this movie was in real 3D from begining to end, it would have been the very best yet!

Whoever made the decision to use converted 2D should be fired and never allowed to work on another movie EVER! What a terrible decision. This movie could have been the most popular 3D movie in years.

I enjoyed this movie, but I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends that collect 3D movies. They tell me they hate the horrible 2D converted to 3D as much as I do.

I could have enjoyed this movie much, much more.

To Sterling Entertainment and Razor 3D: Please don't make any more "Fake" 3D movies, your movies are so much better in "Real" 3D.

Thanks for reading my comments.

Hunting Season
(2000)

I liked this movie.
I liked this movie, and It was in real 3D.

The acting was pretty good, the main actress was great. I hope she gets a chance to act in better movies, she deserves it.

The story in this "Real" 3D movie is better than most of these low budget efforts. I like the story twist at the end. The 3D was quite good, I hike in the countryside a lot, and the settings look exactly like the places I hike. It was believable to me.

The main reason I watched this movie was that it was in 3D, I probably wouldn't have watched it otherwise.

I have seen 9 of these low budget 3D movies and this one rates a 6 out of 10. I will plug a few of the others to see, "Eyes of the Werewolf", "Camp Blood", "Camp Blood 2", "Zombie Chronicles", and all in REAL 3D.

This movie should be seen in 3D, the way it was meant to be seen, as should all 3D movies. They become much more interesting in 3D, much more realistic.

Yes, maybe the story could be fine tuned, and polished a bit more, but it is very watchable. I keep hoping that a future effort by this bunch will rise above its low budget roots. It only needs a good story and some imagination.

Cirque du Soleil: Journey of Man
(2000)

A MUST SEE MOVIE, FANTASTIC IS THE WORD
This is the very best 3D IMAX movie I have seen, also the best Cirque du Soleil I have seen. I have seen it 4 times so far.

This movie is very, very beautiful, very artistic, and the acts are no less than perfect in their execution. The sheer strength and control of the performers is awe inspiring.

Everything about this movie is fantastically beautiful.

The production values are exceptional.

The photography is exceptional.

The settings are absolutely beautiful.

The costumes are beautiful and either extremely colorful or perfectly designed for the act they represent, for example the "Living Statues" painted to look like marble. They are all very imaginative.

The 3D effects make this movie alive in a way nothing else can. It leaves you wishing for more and more and more.

I can find no faults with this movie, it is a must see movie especially in 3D, You leave the theatre feeling like you have seen a great work of art.

I wish I could find this movie on 3D DVD. (Shutterglasses) I would add it to my collection.

Phantom of the Rue Morgue
(1954)

A fun mystery
I have read all of Edgar Allen Poe's works, I don't think there is a faithful movie adaptation anywhere, of course if there was, most movies would be about 15 - 20 minutes long. The Phantom of the Rue Morgue is a fun movie especially if you can see it in 3-D as I did twice when I lived in Los Angeles. I have been watching 3-D movies for 40 years, and I search for them constantly.

I am also a Karl Malden fan and I think every movie he is in is great, and he overacts almost as well as Vincent Price, whom I consider the King. The color, photography and 3-D effects are absolutely great. Too many people expect a "slasher" type movie, "Phantom" was made before that type of movie was invented, and is very literate compared to today's movies.

As with all 3-D movies, "The Phantom of the Rue Morgue" needs to be seen in 3-D, to really appreciate it.

Look for a 3-D festival, or revival, and go see it. I wish Warner Brothers would release all of their 3-D movies on DVD in "3-D for shutterglass" versions. I would buy them all.

You'll Find Out
(1940)

A great gimmick in this movie!
I liked this movie, I have seen it at least 5 times so far. Let's be fair to the movie,it is not Gone With The Wind, it is a B movie, but a really cute one. Kay Kaiser is always Great.

This movie has a GREAT gimmick called the Sonovox. It is similar to the electronic voice box of today, but with much better fidelity. Two small very high powered speakers are held against the upper throat, and you just mouth the words, the speakers provide the voice. Peter Frampton used a variation of this for one of his songs.

There is a wonderful demonstration of the Sonovox at the end of the movie.

Also the big band numbers are great. The two main singers "Handsome" Harry Babbitt and "Gorgeous" Ginny Simms have very fine voices and sing very fine songs in the movie. Yes "The Bad Humor Man" is silly but "WHO CARES"?

The three "horror" stars are great too, Bela Lugosi steals the show, Peter Lorre smokes up a storm, and Boris Karloff is oddly restrained. If you like Big Band music and Old Movies, I think you will like this one.
