A programme filled with drugs, sex, drink, music, rebellion, pointless violence and unnecessary swearing-lovely Having recently moved house, there were a lot of jobs to be done round the house, and I had to sort out the videos to see who's was who's. I came across a video of 'The Young Ones'; I'd heard quite a lot of bad comments about it and how teenagers shouldn't watch it. Of course being a teenager I do the opposite of what they want me to do, and watched it. I love it. 4 very different students put together in an old, dilapidated (caused by them) house and forced to live with each other: Rick, sociology student who is perhaps everyone's idea of the annoying housemate from hell, Vyvyan, who will probably grow up to become the world most feared doctor due to his violent nature and unorthodox methods (6 inch nails for acupuncture), Neil, a slow witted hippy who lives in the past a bit, Mike, who's just normal, scarily normal. The show at times deals with quite serious issues (or at least tries to) like the demolition of the boys house, but it's broken down by the sheer funniness of the show, like Vyvyans plan to stop the council knocking the house down is to do it himself, from inside. I know the show was made over 20 years ago, but it means something to me, and possibly teenagers and young adults everywhere. I don't know if its just me, but I think some of the comedies BBC having been showing recently have been tame and boring, (mad about Alice), I hope that they come to their senses and start showing shows that are similar to the young ones, wild, wacky, and shocking.
