American Sniper
(2014)

If you don't like 'American Sniper' then get out...
It is so rare that Hollywood gives us a film like American Sniper. It is a film that doesn't want for the audience to feel bad about being American. Too often we have to see such tripe like '12 Years a Slave' for them to time and time again brainwash sheep into thinking that America is wrong and evil. American Sniper is a breath of fresh air. It is a film that makes one feel strong and uplifted about their country. It's a brave film that shows the world for what it really is and shows us that the real evil out there is not our sacred American ideals and institutions despite what leftist goons might think but instead the evil is those heathen radical murderers that the democrats want you to feel sorry for and apologize for being American to. Chris Kyle was a great hero because he knew that there was only one way to deal with such monsters. They have to be destroyed. Kudos to Clint Eastwood who has been a pillar of strength who makes movies that don't emasculate the audiences with touchy feely garbage.

American Sniper is a masterpiece. I think those goofy freedom hating cowards attacking Chris Kyle will be surprised when this movie sweeps the Academy Awards. They'll be crying when a movie about a real war hero wins instead of 'The Imitation Game'. The liberal media grossly underestimates the amount of patriots out there ready to stand up to their cowardice. Chris Kyle's message of bravery and strength will inspire countless audiences to stand up to their tyranny and destruction of American values. People who are against Chris Kyle deserve nothing more than to live in a failed Islamic state.

Dredd
(2012)

A dangerous precedent
There is an element of comic book fans who see these pulp stories as an outlet of expression for very deranged and violent views. There has to be something subconscious beneath the surface of the comic book. All of them advocate vigilantism and a near fascist interpretation of maintaining law and order and I suppose Judge Dredd is just this theme at it's utmost extremity. Dredd 3D is a depressing movie and the fact that someone tried to pass this as an entertainment is completely irresponsible. This character has no redeeming quality. What ever entertainment comes from this film is from the audiences getting titillated from very gruesome scenes. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to this? There isn't any tongue in cheek quality to Dredd 3D and so the film is composed of brutality and a reprehensible view of the world that it takes way too seriously. I think anyone who would like this has to be mentally ill. I am glad the film tanked at the box office because it shows that there is some hope in what people find in their entertainment. Dredd seems to still be generating a fan base though and that is worrisome.

The Tree of Life
(2011)

Le' Magnifique!
Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" is a film of broad avidity and abysmal reserve, trying nothing less than to capture the sum total of all of mankind's existence from the broken moment man crawled out of the primordial soup to the time when Artaud first sat down and expressed his genius to the time when the brush first hit the canvas, the element of being and of needing to be is ingrained in this magnificent picture. It is through Malick's humbleness that we view it through the frame of a group of puny lives trying to make their mark on the cosmos. I am hearkened back to the boldness of the great Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey," and yet Malick is in someways able to out do the great Kubrick. His 'Tree of Live' is a more human film with a greater soul than the cold Space of Kubrick's vision. In today's filmmaking society of horrible blockbuster fare like Transformers and the films of Christopher Nolan it is refreshing to know that there still exist auteur's who strive for nothing less than perfection and occasionally there are those who achieve this lofty goal. Terence Malik is a genius. His career all the way back to his first ambitious picture in 1973 has composed entirely of masterpieces.

I had a somewhat spiritual experience watching the film as I am sure a great many people did. I don't know when a film has touched me more strikingly and has found a kinship with my own personal experience of life. In some haunting ways, the core narrative of "The Tree of Life" brings back the ghosts of a time and place of mind I lived and grew up in, and I see my face in the bright eyes of the boys in this film. If I were to think long and hard about what a piece of art might look like that represented my soul, I imagine the timeless imagery of the 'Tree of Life' would come to speak for me and countless other audience members. Malcik portrays a childhood in a town off the postcards from the Midwest, where the days flow carelessly by. At the head of the family is father who has build the house on stern discipline and order and at his side is a saintly mother who emanates forgiveness and love. The children spend their long summer days playing and kicking back, taking a break only to question the meaning of things. Malick's genius is that he is able to find the core ideals of Americana and use them to his will. The ensuing effect is a dream of an idealized past lost long ago. Only when we revisit it's intricacies do we realize how hopeless our plight is as we move to an uncertain future.

Bum Reviews
(2008)

Another "hit" from Doug Walker
Surprise, surprise, Douglas Walker has taken a joke that wasn't funny when he first did it nearly four years ago and has turned it into an excruciatingly long and annoying series. Bum Reviews is by far the worst offering from Mr. Walker and that is saying something indeed. It takes no thought process to the episode and the sole draw to the show is Mr. Walker's loud shrill voice(which by the rate he screams should be ready to burst in the near future). It is no surprise to me that Walker has suffered several bouts of laryngitis because any acting teacher with half a brain will tell you his "method" is unsustainable, unhealthy, and just plain stupid.

The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)
(2011)

Morally disgusting
The film is demeritorious, discomfit, repugnant, unadorned and a brickbat to any apprehension, withal godforsaken, of mortal seemliness. It conceives an objective of Martin's deficiency of complete surgical acquaintance. He creates the impression to get hold of stitching his prey together with girl scout knowledge where you sew the pieces of a sack successively with leather string. I am relinquished with this quandary: what has this world come to? What has happened to the world when a film like the Human Centipede plaques the cinema. This is disgusting and everyone who likes this movie should be ashamed of themselves. I don't understand how a film like this can be released with the terrors going on in the world and the atrocities that are far too similar to this film. I honestly believe that these movies should be banned. Horror films have become nothing but putrid freak shows that only appeal to sick disturbed minds. Ironically the film brings up a point. It is only a matter of time before someone takes these sick films too seriously and tries to emulate them, we've seen it happen before. One grows a deeper pallet over the years and with the exception of films like Psycho the horror genre is a barren wasteland of tastelessness.

The Nostalgia Critic
(2007)

Welly welly well
So this is what counts for a television series these days on the IMDb? A balding man-child on the wrong side of 30 screaming at children's cartoons? I am disappointed. Well this isn't a television show but since it is up here I will give the people their review. The Nostalgia Critic is an ear sore. Generally his "formula" consists of our lovable man-child screaming at children's cartoons for the sake of them being children's cartoons. None of his insights are truly all that relevant or humorous. Surprise, surprise Batman carries a credit card in Batman & Robin. Way to make fun of it ten years after the movie came out and everyone did the joke ahead of time. Or how about his "hilarious" bit as Darth Vader screaming NOOO! when he wasn't even reviewing Revenge of the Sith? This guy is so unfunny that he got to Chuck Norris jokes after Family Guy was sick of them.

And the funniest part of all is how blindly people follow this character and how he cannot take any sort of criticism. I am not a Douchey McNitpick sir. I have given valid insights into why your show is terrible unlike your criticism. Here's a shocking revelation the movies he reviews are made for children not man-children. Perhaps he should keep it in mind when he reviews another episode of Care Bears.

I suppose the show might be fun under two conditions, he loses all of his hair or turns 40.

Citizen Kane
(1941)

Quite frankly the most intelligent film ever made
Citizen Kane is a marvelous piece of cinema. It transcends all efforts made before and after it. What we have here truly is the great American film. The black and white cinematography is to die for. Kane is by far the most visually appealing film ever made. I find something new in it's shadows with each viewing and it takes a really great film to offer that to a viewer. American movie making really owes it all to Kane. It really is the only film I can think of that fails to break into a sense of monotony.

And of course Welles' performance must be praised. Here we have a twenty six year old man fresh off of a lucrative stage career make a seamless transition into film. To see Charles Foster Kane is to see the perfection of characterization. There are no loose ends with this character he is wrapped perfectly. Of course he is a metaphor for the joys and evils of capitalism. We must ask and why did he become what he did? The great thing about Kane is that it still proposes questions that require answers.how

In each viewing of Kane I just think to myself what bias cinema come to? There was a time when motion picture making was a challenge and it meant something. Kane should be studied because it is a perfect film. It gives the viewer something to think about and yet offers dynamic characters. And to think the lobotomized masses of American cinema goers would rather be watching a Transformers film. Now there's a series I would care to forget about. I mean what kind of movie has stupid robots? And that isn't even the problem with those poor excuses for celluloid. Each film in that series is a blood curdling experience. I absolutely hate the parent characters and Shia whatever his name is. The racial stereotypes are offensive and the idea of a Transformer heaven where Shia goes to in the first sequel is beyond ridiculous. I mean come on! And what about that stupid government organization? Really? You expect me to believe that they were able to keep a giant robot within the Hoover dam without nobody knowing about it? Or how about the fact that they actually had the transformer ship crash into the moon? You might infer that some telescope would catch wind of it. And the actor they got to play John Kennedy in the beginning of the film was doing the worst stereotypical Massachusetts accent ever. Transformers is dumbing down America pure and simple. All it exists to do is sell toys to idiot kids. Michael Bay makes millions of dollars while Orson Welles was abandoned by the Hollywood system. Really! It infuriates me.

Inception
(2010)

A boring pedantic sterile experience...
Wow what have we here? What hast thou put before our eyes? Could it be Christopher Nolan's boorish tripe 'Inception'? I myself could not tell as the movie was far too low brow to make even the slightest impression on my vastly superior intelligence. Nolan is an amateur who makes movies based on blatantly foreseeable childish artifices that only the most unintelligent boors would find the least bit amusing. 'Inception' is the kind of film designed to make lamebrains feel like they are intelligent. Nolan's intellectualism-for-dummies should be the main title of his biography. Luckily I am smart enough to see past this charade and give the people their fair assessment of this tripe.

'Inception' is built upon the notion of traveling through dream like spaces that bend time, space, and reality, yawn. It's been done before Chris in a much sounder fashion in Charlie Kaufman's epic masterpiece 'Synecdoche, New York'. That film is an orgasmic experience while 'Inception' is just beyond words describing it. I mean you might conclude that the inner subconscious would be more creative in coming up with better metaphors for security than guys with guns who chase you. The lengthy exposition- oh I mean training montage, despite having a semi-acceptable computer effect, was way more boring and less engaging than the scene it stole from 'The Matrix', and at least that scene didn't have Nolan's pretentiousness. Larry the Cable Guy is less insulting to the intellect. I mean Sarah Palin sounds smarter than Christopher Nolan's dialogue. ( Conjointly, the Herculean careener of mesh networks is titled Ariadne? Really? None of the juveniles that give you your millions will get that reference Chris but I'm glad you know how to use wikipedia)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Mac and Charlie Write a Movie
(2009)
Episode 11, Season 5

Against all odds...
Frank Reynolds against all odds and persecution makes his mark in life. He woke up one morning and decided enough was enough. The cool broken streets of Philadelphia were cruel to him. The politicians were corrupt. Crime and sexual deviancy spewed from the sewers. Frank had but one thing on his mind, "How can I eat my breakfast sausage links without getting my fingers greasy?" The world shunned this question and so Frank was led into a somber depression. He woke up one morning tired and aloof. His sausage cravings left his mouth dry. His pointy fat digits could not sustain the sausages for then they would collect a greasy residue. Frank then put on his shirt. It hit him, the moment was orgasmic. The cosmos were in perfect order. Frank decided that he would cook his sausages and then place them in his front shirt pocket. An idea was sprung. Frank like any great renaissance man was humble in his divine invention. He knew that greatness stems from modesty. And so he put the sausages forthwith in his front shirt pocket. Then whenever the hunger for a breakfast sausage arose he could merely pull the pocket up to his mouth and take a delicious bite of the sausage. It was a moment of realization and greatness. Frank had done it. This ingenious way of satisfying sausage cravings would change the world. And Frank would secure a spot in history.

and Mac and Charlie write a movie...

Machete
(2010)

Trying to inspire a race war...
'Machete' is a film that clearly hates America. Director Robert Rodriquez wants to make the Mexicans stand up and be violent to God fearing white people. How are flag carrying God fearing freedom loving heroes like Governor Jan Brewer and Sheriff Joe Arpaio supposed to do their jobs when films like 'Machete' plague the cinema? The Good lord Jesus Christ speaks through Jan Brewer and el diablo speaks through 'Machete'. I say in order to protect freedom we burn every copy of 'Machete'. The film is not without it's merit however. I must admit I really enjoyed the character of John McLaughlin. I would vote for him in a second. He is a handsome Texan played by Robert DeNiro.

Silent Night, Deadly Night 2
(1987)

Lay off the sauce
Silent Night Deadly Night is the funniest movie ever made. It is so funny and full of wall to wall laughs. It is sort of like the recent comedic masterpiece Cop Out with Bruce Willis making a new best friend in Tracy Morgan. It's not as good in comedic value as Kevin Kline in Dave, which chronicled the story of the greatest President who ever lived. My favorite character is Ricky who decides it would be fun to go on a kill rampage through his neighborhood. The best moment of the film is where Ricky yells Garbage day to a unsuspecting neighbor before shooting him. Eric Freeman is probably the best actor ever. He's almost as good as Daniel Day Lewis in the classic film "Gangs of New York" and "There will be Blood". I love all the grisly little scenes. Ricky is a comedic God. I feel I'm like at the Knotsberry farm of laughter. Garbage Day! -Lord Bullingdon

Diff'rent Strokes: The Bicycle Man: Part 1
(1983)
Episode 16, Season 5

Arnold and Dudley's New Best Friend, Mr.Horton
Arnold and Dudley are lured into the carefully planned trap of a child molester, Mr. Horton. Mr.Horton runs the local bike shop. I learned to never go to that bike shop from this episode. Mr. Horton is a great villain he likes luring children into his back room and giving kids wine and pills. His favorite thing to do is to skinny dip with kids and take pictures of them. Arnold and Dudley decide to go to the bathroom where Mr. Horton washes them in the shower playing "Neptune King of the Sea". Mr.Horton really likes kids. Dudley is Mr. Horton's best friend in the episode. Mr. Horton decides to give Dudley a little pill which will make him feel good. Mr. Horton has a collection of naked pictures. He likes to give kids wine and tells them not to tell their parents because it's their little secret. Mr. Horton's favorite cartoon is Murphy the Mouse where Murphy takes off all of his clothes.

Avatar
(2009)

In a world where nature was king...
Avatar is the bestest movie in a long long time. It's a sight to be seen. If you thought Lord of the Rings had cool effects than you don't know anything. Avatar has taken visual effects and brought them to a new high. I don't think any movie can ever beat Avatar's special effects for a long long time. It's pretty early sure but I think Avatar will be judged as one of the greatest movies of all time. It has a classic storyline of good and evil, right and wrong, but it is only with blue aliens instead. Cameron has created his own brilliant world and populated it with aliens with a unique mythology. We want to know how to be like them but only action hero Sam Worthington can discover the secrets. The idea of the Avatar is one of the most original sci-fi creations. It takes a certain inspired brilliance to have Jake Sully a wheel chaired guy to become a creature of the forest through virtual reality. The 3-D in Avatar is by far the best I've ever seen. If you want great 3-D than Avatar is the way to go. James Cameron is the King of the World and if I were him I'd simply retire because he has made a great movie, too great really. All other Sci-Fi epics pale in comparison to Avatar. Stephen Lang's character is a better villain than Darth Vader...

Dave
(1993)

Quit Daving Yourself
Dave is a film about a time in your life when you have to ask yourself what do I do for the people of America? Dave also makes you ask yourself who is truly special to you in your life. Dave made me believe in America again. Because Dave is a better president than George Dubya and Barack Obama. Dave would bailout Titlewave Video if the economy failed. Upon viewing the film Dave I realized that true love is between a dog and his family. After I got done watching Dave, I gave the disc to my dog as a nice present. My dog particularly enjoyed the picture of Sigourney Weaver on the box. She is a great little actress and Dave is a great film. Dave is a rip roaring good time. I think it is the funniest ever made. I kind of wish Bruce Willis was in it.

Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde
(1995)

Awful Comedy
I was looking for a comedy yesterday at the video store, one along the lines of the silliness of Naked Gun. I saw the case for Dr.Jekyll and Ms.Hyde,I laughed looking at the box,and reading the premise. And the premise is an excellent one for a comedy,a lot of the better comedies are about men getting in touch with their female side (Some like it hot,Tootsie,Mrs.Doubtfire). Dr.Jekyll and Ms.Hyde looked like a good one.I popped it in the VCR...

The story is about Dr.Richard Jacks,a typical nerdy scientist type, whose life is going okay for him but he wants something more,he spends long nights mixing chemicals together for a prize-winning cerum we are told is some sort of medicine. One day Richard discovers his Great Uncle included him in his will, his Great Uncle had 14 million dollars. While his whole family receives boats, houses, and cash,he receives a box of old science journals from his Great Grandfather, and a signed 1st edition copy of Dr.Jekyll and Mr Hyde.Really Richard if you sold that copy to the right buyer you'd probably have a little more than 14 million.

He reads the journals, and discovers that his Great Grandfather was none other than Henry Jekyll. He reads in and finds out his research wasn't far off,Henry just didn't have the tools like computers and such.He decides to try again.

He drinks the cerum, and everything goes fine at first, until he morphs into the beautiful Helen Hyde.

The movie's premise is great, and the Jekyll and Hyde concept can be very funny (Nutty Professor) but the way they pull it off on screen is awful.Helen Hyde is evil like you'd expect. The only real funny things are the transformation scenes, and they get tiresome.Maybe if Richard had a little more control over his alter-ego Helen it would be more funny.

Million Dollar Baby
(2004)

The Academy was right on...
Million Dollar Baby is a great movie.Everything about it is extraordinary, the performance, the directing, the writing. It is easily the best Best Picture winner since 2000.It is a tragic story,Frank Dunn a boxer, and his friend Ed Dupris run a worn out looking boxing gym.Frank is training a promising boxer named Willie, but when Willie feels he is being held back,he leaves.Frank is hurt, but we find out he wants to protect his fighters after Ed lost his eye in a fight years ago. When he meets Maggie Fitzgerald a woman with nothing who decides to take up boxing.Maggie wants Frank to train her,Frank is hesitant but agrees. He and Maggie become good friends, and he is able to train her into a promising fighter.

****Huge Spoilers Below***** Maggie is then paralyzed in the title fight, and Frank who has grown to love her has to decide if he wants to save her,or answer her prayers for death.

Million Dollar Baby is a tragic story,it explores our characters, makes us care about them, and makes you think at the end.

Clint Eastwood gives an astonishing performance, but it is in the director's chair is where he gets the gold, the film has a dark sad feel to it.

Morgan Freeman gives another A+++ performance,I have never seen a performance by him I didn't like even in Bad Movies(Bruce Almighty) Hilary Swank is terrific in the title role, she soars.

A very very high 4/4 even though I saw it today it is the best film of 2004

Life of Brian
(1979)

Brilliantly silly
Though Life of Brian cant beat the classic Holy Grail film,it is a classic comedy as well. Many people believe Life of Brian spoofs Jesus Christ, not true,Jesus actually has a small part in it,and when he is there the Python's never poke fun at him, just the people around him.Brian was born in the smaller stable next door to Jesus' at the Nativity. In fact the Wiseman mistake Brian for Jesus, and offer him the gifts meant for Jesus, but when they walk out they see the real Messiah, and take the gifts away.Brian's mother is far from Mary the Virgin Mother, and is one of the silly points of the film.Brian doesn't like the Romans, and joins a group of Jews determined to rebel against Rome, even though they have done a lot of things for them lol Brian never wanted to be the Messiah, but the people start worshiping him. Some highlights are when Pilate addresses the crowd, but Pilate here has a speech problem, the scene is hilarious. And of course the jokes about crucifixion, and how often the Romans do it.Forgive me if these aren't the right quotes but...

Crucifxion, third door on your right one cross each. Raise your hand if you don't belong here.

I am sure a lot of people will be offended by Life of Brian, but it's meant to be super silly, and it's all most silly to be offended, because the movie is that bizarre.

9/10

Jaws
(1975)

Spielberg's first major film, and arguably his best
Spielberg takes on suspense,he agreed to do Jaws, only if the shark was not present the first act of the movie.Jaws is about a killer shark brutally devouring swimmers on the coast of Amity,a beach resort town. The Mayor tries to pretend a big problem isn't there, but Sheriff Martin Brody knows something big is about to happen. He brings in Matt Hooper a Marine Scientist, they know they are dealing with none other than a great white. After a couple of deaths,Mayor Vaughn agrees for Sheriff Brody to go out,and get the help of Quint,an insane shark hunter.Quint is played brilliantly by Robert Shaw who sadly died shortly after Jaws was made,he steals all most every scene he is in,he would have gotten a Best Supporting Actor Oscar from me if I were in charge.

Jaws is scary, and it builds suspense.Spielberg is actually an excellent horror director,he could have had a successful career in the horror genre.Shame he hasn't done a film like Jaws,Jurassic Park borrowed elements, but never was as good. The characters are fleshed out and you feel for them.Pete Benchley's novel which is a good read, but the only real character who isn't a creep is Martin Brody,I'm glad they took a different approach in making the movie.Jaws is excellent,I highly recommend it,it is not only a great creature feature but an excellent film as well.

10/10

Phantasm II
(1988)

The Return of Don Coscarelli's Tall Man
I admired the first Phantasm, because it was really frightening,The setting of the cemetery, the mysterious Tall Man.But it had a lot of heart too,Mike's relationship with Jody, was the main part of the story, and of course those who have seen the first Phantasm,I don't recommend watching II without seeing I,know Mike wakes up to discover his brother Jody has died, and no one believes his Tall Man stories, and Jody's friend Reggie vows to take care of Mike.Yet in II we find out Mike has been in a Mental Hospital since I,he lies, and tells the doctor he made up the Tall Man story, the doctor lets him go.He returns to Reggie, who tells him his family is over to see him,Mike says something isn't right, and sure enough Reggie's house bursts into flames.Reggie decides to join Mike on his crusade to kill The Tall Man,but they will need to be armed,so they break into a hardware store and arm themselves.Mike starts having dreams of where The Tall Man is,but he also dreams of a girl who is calling him for help. You got to laugh at Reggie's response "How do we know this isn't some wet dream of yours" Reggie isn't the type of father figure you see in normal horror movies,he believes Mike.Reggie picks up a beauitful hitchhiker, and they go to the town where the climax of the film takes place...

Even though Phantasm is the better film,Phantasm II has a lot to offer. The characters have definitely evolved from the first film.My really only problem is the lack of mentioning,or a flashback of Jody,to strengthen Reggie as a father figure to Mike. The higher budget shows,Don get mores more sets, better make-up/gore effects to play around with.Phantasm II is a great companion to 1,and I cant wait to rent III...

Phantasm
(1979)

A very creepy, and imaginative horror film
Phantasm is one of the most creative horror films from the late 70's/80's.From the imagination of Don Coscarelli,it doesn't play like a slasher film,it's a lot more clever. The setting of the horror is a Funeral home/Cemetery.A smart move, people fear funeral homes/graveyards because they associate them with death.I'd say it a cemetery is a smart place to set a horror film, because we fear it to begin with. The plot is about a boy named Mike, who lives with his brother Jody, they have a friend named Reggie who is an ice cream driver.Mike/Jody/Reggie are the main characters of the film.Their friend is killed in the cemetery. They bury him in the cemetery.Mike hides in the bushes, and sees the funeral home director known as The Tall Man,take the casket. He suspects something is wrong.Mike doesn't hesitate to investigate the cemetery. He sneaks into the mausoleum, where a flying sphere nearly kills him.The Tall Man attacks him,and he cuts off The Tall Man's fingers.Yet the finger still moves,he locks it in a box,and shows it to Jody.Jody decides that they have to investigate. They encounter dwarf slaves, they look like Jawas on film, but I'll forgive Don,because of the low budget. These Dwarf slaves are actually the corpses of the dead of the town. They bring Reggie in on it,and decide they have to find and kill The Tall Man.

Phantasm is a great horror movie. It is fun,and a lot more clever than others.Don Coscarelli is a gifted film maker,he makes great horror films on low budgets.I checked Phantasm out because of his recent Bubba Ho-Tep which was great, and because a teacher at school who I talk to about horror films loved it.I'm glad I did see Phantasm,it was a great horror movie.

The Howling
(1981)

Fun 80's scare film
Karen White,a reporter for a local news station, has been receiving calls from an odd serial killer named Eddie. She goes to find him on an eye witness report for her station,Eddie attacks her,and is shot by the cops. She is very scared, her friend Dr.Geogre Waggner(An Obivious reference to The Wolf Man) tells her to visit his "colony".The colony is a town for people he helps. She brings her husband(William Neil, but it is credited as R.William Neil,A Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man reference) with, they begin to know something odd is going on,when Karen hears Wolf howls every night, and slaughtered cows begin appearing.Bill faces a problem when a female colony member named Marsha Quist who tries to seduce him.The male colony members go on a Wolf hunt,Bill is bitten by a wolf.We all pretty much know what is going to happen.Bill morphs into a werewolf, and makes love to Marsha.Werewolves terrorize Karen, and we find out that Dr.Geogre Waggner, and his "colony" are not what they appear to be.

The Howling is a fun movie, not as good as An American Werewolf in London, which was released shortly after The Howling, but it is also a good scare movie.Joe Dante known for his creature features, references previous werewolf films,a character is named after all most every previous werewolf director. One would wonder why he wouldn't name a character after Lon Chaney Jr,the most popular screen werewolf, but it is okay, because we are shown little pieces of The Wolf Man,and a picture of a young Lon is in a cabin. The make-up effects were pretty extreme for the 80's,a new viewer will probably laugh at them now,the film does show its age to today's audience, but it is great nostalgia. But I enjoy them more than any CGI werewolf,One of the high points of werewolf movies is the make-up effects. The Howling does play around with the Werewolf legend a little bit,but the basics are still there(Silver bullets)

Superman
(1978)

Not just an excellent Super-Hero/Comic Book movie, but an Excellent movie.
I've been a fan of super-hero movies since I was little. But I hadn't got around to renting Superman until last night. My interest was sparked by a rerun of Seinfeld(My most favorite show)In which Jerry has a girlfriend named Lois, and there are a whole bunch of Superman jokes.Well I rented it last night,I wasn't really expecting much from it,I was expecting bad effects, and a silly movie. What I got was far from it...

Superman begins with a shot of a kid opening a comic book in 1938,comic book fans know that the comic he is opening is the 1st issue of Superman. We are then shown the opening credits, accompanied by John William's brilliant score,I used to think Danny Elfman's Batman was the best comic book score until yesterday.

We are then introduced to Jor-el,Superman's biological father on the planet Kyrpton.Jor-el is a brilliant scientist who suspects that Kyrpton is doomed. He and his wife send their son to earth.Although the late Marlon Brando gives a great performance,he does not deserve first billing in my opinion.

The Kents discover the infant Superman, and take him as their son,Clark Kent, right away they know he has special super powers, after he lifts the Kent's truck up,after it falls with a flat tire. They raise him to the age of 18,where he is about to graduate from High School, when Pa Kent suddenly dies of a heart attack.Clark blames himself,as he says to Ma Kent at his funeral,"With all these powers I couldn't even save him".Clark decides he must learn how to control his powers, and learn who he really is.So with a crystal sent with him by Jor-El he goes to "The North",and releases the spirit of his dead father,he answers all his questions, and he learns a lot.Jor-el tells him to stay and protect Earth, and thus Superman is born.

Clark moves to Metropolis, and becomes a reporter for The Daily Planet. Now played by the late Christopher Reeve. He poses as a nerdish reporter to throw people off, that he is Superman. He begins solving crimes around the city. This very much upsets the criminal mastermind Lex Luthor, played by an earlier Gene Hackman, who is about to blow off a chunk of California.Lex does his homework, and finds Superman's one weakness Kyrptonie, comets left by his home planet.Accompanied by a bumbling sidekick Otis, who is great comic relief,Luthor will stop at nothing to see his Crime of the Century pull through.Meanwhile Clark romances Lois Lane,a fellow reporter.

While watching Superman,I thought it was a little silly. But I thought,Tim Burton's Batman all most made a rule that all super hero stories, would have to be dark, have over the top insane villains, and be more aimed to adults than kids.

Superman is a fun movie for all ages.He is someone everyone wants to be.The film is great fuel for the imiagnation. With great performances from a great cast.Christopher Reeve shines in the title role.I can see how he got an extremely large group of fans. You also see how people wanted to support him toward the tragic later years of his life,to regain his status of Superman.Playing Superman would be a challenge to not come off as cocky, but Reeve pulled it off very well,he seems like a helpful friend, rather than a show-off.

A very high 4/4

Meet the Fockers
(2004)

A bit over done...
Meet the Parents was an inspired comedy. It had a very funny premise, and delivered a bunch of great laughs. When the rumors for Meet the Fockers came out on the internet soon after,I was excited,I thought(and so did many other web pages) they'd use Ben Stiller's real parents,Seinfeld's Jerry Stiller, and Anne Meara, but they didn't.The film opens with Gaylord "Greg" Focker, who we all know by now is a male nurse, delivering his first baby. The father of the baby asks if he can the name the baby after Greg,he sees his name tag,and sees why Greg is hesitant.Well Greg gets to his apartment, where he calls his parents to remind, them that they are going.Well the rest of the day goes smoothly for Greg, and his wife to be Pam.They make it to her parents house.Where we find out Jack Byrnes is now a Grandfather,to Pam's sister's baby named Jack after Deniro's Byrnes .Pam's sister, and brother from Meet the Parents are absent in Meet the Fockers. They hit the road in Jack's camper, which looks like a tank,Greg even makes a joke about it.Along the way,Jack shows Greg his new invention,a breast feeding pump, that is molded from Little Jack's mothers breast, the joke is funny once, but they use it over and over in the movie.Jack discusses with Greg his legacy, and how he isn't sure Greg,or his family will fit in it.We now know that DeNiro's Jack hasn't changed much from Meet the Parents, and it progresses in Meet The Fockers. They reach Miami Florida, which is were we are introduced to Greg's parents Roz,and Bernie Focker. They are very different from Jack.Thats when the bulk of the film begins.Dustin Hoffman, and Barbara Streisand are great as Bernie, and Roz.They are very funny.Hoffman is particularly great as Bernie,a loving Dad,who has a Wall of Greg's Honorable mention ribbons.Hoffman, and Streisand have great chemistry as the loving Focker parents. But DeNiro's Byrnes goes a little too far,Robert DeNiro is an actor I admire a lot,but Jack Byrnes is an unlikable jerk in Meet the Fockers. He has a great talent for comedy too,Analyze This was a hilarious movie. But when you should be laughing at Greg's crazy actions, you actually don't think they are funny at all,and feel sorry for what Jack is doing to him, after trying so hard to earn his respect. There is one momment in Meet the Fockers, where Jack injects a truth shot in him, people in the theatre were laughing hard at it,but like I said earlier I felt sorry for Greg.Maybe I took Meet the Fockers a little too seriously.Maybe I should have relaxed and had a fun time.As for a third Focker outing, leave the parents out of it,and have it focus on Greg, and Pam starting a family.

2.5/4

Resident Evil: Apocalypse
(2004)

Awful,The Worst film of 2004
Hey I'm a guy that loves Zombie films.Romero's Dead trilogy are among my favorite movies, but Resident Evil Apocalypse is a horrible movie. Its not horrible because Paul Anderson was involved, heck I loved Alien vs Predator. The film has plot holes a plenty, and it doesn't even try to fix them.I think it doesn't even have a plot really, just a stupid story to bring action.Milla Jovovich is okay, nothing special(Of course she doesn't have much to work with) The plot isn't original, monsters wreck havoc, rich company and/or filthy rich business man want to keep them alive to build a weapon of some sort. But in this case the evil company is going to nuke the whole city the zombies are in,which is semi-interesting,they could have done a lot more with it,instead they add a Commando Zombie armed with guns.Somehow I miss the old days were Zombies were dumb, and could hardly stand up straight.Save yourself the trouble Resident Evil Apocalypse is worth the Rental fee.

Van Helsing
(2004)

Kick Ass Summer Popcorn fun!
Spoilers within...

First of all I am a huge fan of the Universal Studios Monsters, and I`ve been waiting for a resurrection of them. Sommers was just the man to do this. The film starts in B&W very clever, and a tribute to the Monsters. The plot Dracula needs the electric forces of the Frankenstein Monster to resurect his offspring, his weapon to protect him,The Wolfman. Yet he has to fear the great monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing, who in this version is a tool of God,and is played by Hugh Jackman, who did last years brilliant X2:X-Men United. He is not a science doctor. He works for a secret agency formed by The Catholic Church sworn to rid evil. His Q like assitant is Frair Carl, played hilariously by Lord of the Ring's David Wenham. They go to Transylvania to stop Dracula, and his brides from resurrecting their offspring.

Van Helsing is fun,and action packed. Sommers has brought back life, and fun into the monsters. It is very entertaining, everyone will love it. And cant the bashers, just except that this is a film for popcorn purposes not to be the next Acadmey Award winner for 04!?

4/4,But hey its just my opinion!
