Green Lantern
(2011)

Worst Comic Book Movie
And yet, another movie that I feel I have wasted my hard earned money on. This movie was just awful. I haven't been this bored in a movie since Avatar.

First of all, if you're going to make a movie based on a comic book, stick to the story of the comic. Don't add a little bit of this and a little bit of that because you think it'll spice up the story. 9 time out of 10 it'll only slow the story down, so it's best if you leave well enough alone. Second, stick to one plot. Don't introduce another plot and if you do, at least wait until the end of the movie and not the in the middle. I understand that gives us, the viewer and movie goers, an insight as to what the sequel will be about, but like I said, wait for the end of the movie. Third, yes, we like a little romance. Key word in that sentence was LITTLE! We don't want half of the movie to be dedicated to two people who want to get together, but won't.

The plot was way too slow. There were too many scenes between Hal and Carol that were unnecessary. We want to see Hal as the Green Lantern, not an on-again off-again lover of Carol Ferris. Here's an idea, it's called "Green Lantern" put a few scenes of the Green Lantern in it. Just a thought.

The acting. We'll start with Ryan Reynolds. I normally enjoy movies that Ryan is in, but this was his worst performance EVER! Yes, Hal is cocky, but not to the point were we're rooting for the bad guy to get the girl. And no one likes a whiny hero. We don't even like whiny, so, get rid of whiny unless you're playing a teenage girl who's spoiled and can't get her way.

Blake Lively wasn't bad, but she wasn't amazing. Like I said, most of the scenes she was in were too slow, but that wasn't her fault. She just isn't interesting to watch on screen.

Peter Sarsgaard was, hands down, the best actor in "Green Lantern." I didn't even recognize him when he came on screen. He made me feel sorry for Hector Hammond and in the end, I was rooting for him to get the girl! Not Hal!

Overall, this movie was really slow, it lacked a clear plot, and the acting was mediocre. Just because over half of the movie is special effects, it doesn't mean it'll be a hit. This one was a stinker.

Bridesmaids
(2011)

I Have Regained Faith in Hollywood
The past decade has just been awful for Hollywood. The latest movies that have come out have had the same plot, only just with different actors and characters. It's gotten to the point that I won't even waist my time or money on going to see a movie at the theater anymore, simply because I know what's going to happen just by watching the trailer. But, this movie was a breath of fresh air! Bridesmaids was jam packed full of sight gags and slap stick comedy! Almost every line was joke and it kept you laughing right through to the end.

Usually in every movie you have an actor that either doesn't fit their part or they just plain suck. The casting director for this movie has done their job and done it well! I didn't notice a single actor that didn't fit their part. Everyone was exceptional.

I usually don't give movies more than 7 out of 10 stars, but this movie was thoroughly entertaining and has EARNED 9 stars!

Overall, awesome movie!

Avatar
(2009)

I've lost hope...
I have completely lost all hope in Hollywood. This movie was horrible. There was no originality in the plot or the characters whatsoever.

Let's look at the movie in it's entirety. Original right? NO! The truth is, if you strip away all of the special effects and look at the plot you'll notice that it's the same plot used in so many other movies. I've summed the plot up into one sentence. This is the plot: It's Disney's Pocahontas substituting the American Indians with blue aliens. What is so special about that?

James Cameron is overrated as a director. Everyone is calling him the greatest director of our time. I hope the people calling him that, aren't speaking for all of us. I'd like to see him direct something with some kind of meaning to it instead of blue aliens fighting humans over a tree. Steven Spielberg, in my opinion, is the greatest director of our time.

I will say that the performances given by Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver were amazing! Everyone else was so-so.

There was nothing special about this movie. I literally feel like I wasted two and half hours of my life and thirteen dollars of my hard earned money to see this piece of crap.

I wouldn't wish this movie on my worst enemy.

The Shining
(1980)

Classic
If there is one thing we want to gain from a horror movie, it's the feeling of sheer terror and this movie does just that. I watched this movie not too long ago around ten in the evening and after the movie ended, I constantly looked over my shoulder at every little noise that was made. I'm not one who scares easily but this movie got my heart pumping a good bit throughout it's entirety. Hands down, one of Stephen King's best stories.

The cast, minus Shelley Duvall, was perfect.

Jack Nicholson, as always, was phenomenal. It's amazing to watch him slowly mold from hard working father to a mad man. One of the many great things about Nicholson is his eyes. He has the most amazing, story telling eyes. You could put him in a silent movie, with no subtitles, and understand the story just by watching his eyes.

Shelley Duvall was awful. In fact, she was down right horrible and it was painful to watch her act. When watching a film, we want to get lost in it and feel like it's actually happening. Her acting took so much away from the movie that every time she was in a scene, I remembered I was watching a film.

Danny Lloyd was excellent. This kid blew me away. It's very hard to find a child actor who can reach certain aspects of a character, especially in a horror film. Somehow, the crew were able to find this boy who has the ability to make you paranoid.

The only thing, besides Duvall's awful performance, that slowed the movie down was the dialog. Stanley Kubrick and Diane Johnson could have done a better job at transferring the story from paper to screen. The dialog sounded as if a child wrote it and didn't flow as well as it could have.

But overall, great movie! Classic Horror Film.

The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It
(2007)

I have to say, I enjoyed this
I was a little skeptical when I saw this on TV, but despite those feelings, I watched it anyway. I'm very proud to say I was wrong to suspect that this film was a stinker. It was a lot better than I imagined.

It is perfect for children and I think kids will get a kick out of this movie. It's not too scary and it leaves a lot to their imagination. I had a great time watching this film.

The acting in the movie was pretty good. At first, it was a little difficult to see Emily Osment as a goth, but I feel she pulled it off very well. It was a stretch for her and I think it's great she's expanding her roles.

Overall, great family movie!

The Human Centipede (First Sequence)
(2009)

More disturbing than anything else
The title pretty much sums it up. The Human Centipede, while being original, was more disturbing than scary.

Many of the scenes were so frustrating because of how stupid the characters were. I found myself screaming at the TV asking, "What are you doing? Can you be that stupid?" The acting is so-so. Dieter Laser (Dr. Heiter) was the best by far! He took his character to a whole new level and his acting is superb. I'm looking forward to seeing him in other films. Ashley C. Williams (Lindsay) was pretty good. Give her a few more years and a couple of other roles and I bet she'll do very well. She has the potential to be a great actress. Ashlynn Yennie (Jenny) was awful. She overacted way too much and I don't see her as a A list actor anytime soon. Akihiro Kitamura (Katsuro) was excellent. Even if there were no subtitles to what he was saying in the movie, you'd be able to see what he was feeling. Great actor.

This movie was original. Never in my life would I think to write a movie about making a human centipede, but it could have been pieced together a lot better. The plot didn't move smoothly enough for me to be hooked. I was intrigued at the beginning, but I lost interest when the plot wasn't moving at a considerable rate.

If you want to be disturbed or make fun of a movie with a group of friends, by all means rent The Human Centipede. But if you're looking to be scared, find something that's worth your while.
