A Ghost Story
(2017)

I don't get these reviews.
I just watched a woman do the dishes in real time. And eat a pie in real time. What the hell are all these good ratings for? It's not good at all. It's a student film. It's boring and seriously nothing happens. It's truly horrible and one of the worst films I've ever seen.

The Open House
(2018)

I would rather crawl on broken glass, then watch this movie ever again.
Seriously guys, it really is that bad.

I'm actually sitting here, wondering what to do with the rest of my life.

The movie presented all sorts of information that didn't matter AT ALL. And the information that DID matter, wasn't even in the movie.

All that I understood was that there was a guy in the house, that got in during the open house and he didn't leave... And I'm not even sure that's even really true.

Eventually, the son stabs his mother... for no particular reason... The bad guy says: NOW RUN... and he runs and dies of hypothermia.... What the hell?!

Death Note
(2017)

Good watch
I haven't watched "Desu Noto".. or whatever the nerds call the "original" movie. But whatever they say: this is is a good watch.

I watch a lot of movies, but those guys that have seen the foreign version always like to pretend that it's better or that it's of higher arstical value... bullsh*t.

I'm writing this is review, just to give a counter voice to those Asian-o-philes, you know the types, But this movie is a solid 7.

And a solid 7, is worth your time.

I'm not going to tell you that the foreing version is better.... and i'm not going to tell you that you will like this movie more than anything.

All I am saying is that this movie is well worth your 80 minutes. I think you will like it and I think you will have a good evening watching this movie. And that's the end of this review.

Let's not f*"ck about with this "the Asian version is better" Good movie, worth your time.

Wrath of the Titans
(2012)

Not THAT bad... but also not THAT great
I'm not the type of film watcher that has a preconceived opinion about the film. I don't go in expecting something. I just watch.

When I watched this movie, I was entertained... Bottomline. Sure, if you want award wining dialogues, this movie is not for you. If you want your movie to be theoritically amazing, this movie is not for you.

But if you want an evening of fantasy, this movie is simply terrific. It has a group of people on a quest and they succeed in the end. What more do you want? I don't want to see literary dialogues or artsy situations. I just want to see a guy fight with magic and for the good cause.

This movie had it. I was completely into it for as long as the film lasted and that's all I need. When it was done, I felt I had a good evening. This movie is not one for the legendary ranking, but surely enough to watch a second time.

And contrary to what many film critics propose, not EVERY film has to be top 100 of all time film... Some movies are just fun for an evening. And this is one of those films. It is not a "blown away" type of film... But a "that was fun" type of film. In anyway, well worth your 90 minutes.

Transcendence
(2014)

Thought provoking and creative
I'm a little bit amazed by the low rating this movie has here on IMDb. Because this was a good, creative movie.

This movie deals with an existential question, that I have had for a period of time. It portrays the difference between consciousness and a living body... Are you alive if you have a living body, or are you alive when you are conscious? And what is consciousness really? It is kind of like "I robot", with Will Smith... Here you have a robot that became conscious... should we now consider that robot to be a living being? Is switching him off, similar to switching a human body off? A.k.a. killing...

In anyway... It is a film thats definitely worth a watch. Johnny Depp.. Good as always. And if you are prone to think about life in a spiritual way, then this a definite Must See.

World War Z
(2013)

A bit disappointed
Cliché...

This film was exactly what you expect from a zombie apocalypse movie. To me, that was a bit disappointing.

The people get infected.... 99% of the world population dies... hero finds the cure... They rebuild the planet...

I found my self 45 minutes into the film, wondering when it would start. And telling myself: This can not be it... the big plot twist is still a-coming... the big creative spin has yet to come... But it never did.

In a "normal" zombie movie... you at least know what the goal of a zombie is. Brains... Right? A zombie wants brains... Well, in this movie, they creatively changed that to "nothing"... The zombies are just.. I don't know... aggressive. They just bite you and then you are one of them... that's it.

The movie explains little about the zombies. It is just good ole Brad Pitt fighting for the cure... And i'm not a big fan of zombie movies, but I gave this one a chance... Seeing that they sunk a lot of money into it and I didn't expect Brad Pitt to tie his name to an uninspired movie... but there we go.

Watching the movie was not a complete waste of time. But if they make a World War Z 2.... I'm not going to watch it.

The Last Airbender
(2010)

I became physically ill
This was amazingly dumb. For a number of reasons.

Firstly, they changed all the names. Iroh, became Eero. Aang, became ohng, Sokka, became Soak-ha... What could the reason be of this? It's not serving any purpose! You get the feeling you're not watching "the real deal" but some cheap rip off. If you know Coca Cola, then Cooka Cola just seems like a cheap alternative. That's exactly what this name change thingy did for the story.

Secondly, the races of the characters. Why is the fire nation made of Indian people? Are those personal friends of Shyamalan? I call it rather coincidental that a big chunk of the cast is of the same ethnicity of the director. Eventho Zuko is incredibly pale in the series, in this movie he is Indian. So is Iroh, Firelord Ozai and commander Zhao. Even Azula is kinda Indian.

Katara and Sokka were white... While in the series, they have a darker complexion. And Monk Gyatso... Was black! Except from an Asian Earthbender, there was no Asian to be found.

Zuko, even tho Dev Patel was one of the better actors, was not at all as he should've been. His scar was not at all that visible. While it's like the most important part of his face. And, you know, he was Indian...

Aang, played by Noah Ringer, looked a lot like a real life Aang... But his acting skills were practically none existent.

Sokka, played by Jackson Rathbone... Sucked! Not funny AT ALL, and poor poor poor acting. At times I just felt embarrassed for HIM!

In the end... It just seemed that Shyamalan lost interest in making the movie at the first scene. It seemed as if every scene is 'take 1' and that he just wanted to be done as quickly as possible.

I don't have an evil personality, but deep down inside I hope Nickelodeon and Paramount have punished Shyamalan for this injustice. I actually feel wronged... Robbed and cheated. Leaves me to question once again, why this director has such a big name. Time and time again, he messes up movies... Just like The village, this movie would've been better off in the hands of a director with talent.

Hidden Colors
(2011)

This is a mockumentary
This film was just an abomination of information.

I started watching this movie with the expectation of a good film about the African heritage. But this was NOT what I got. Rather, this movie is some militant, black power propaganda.

The film maker does not know the difference between race and culture. The African continent, has a lot of different cultures. The cultures in the west of Africa are entirely different from the cultures in the East. But the film maker just grabs them all together and calls them 'black people'. He claims inventions and doesn't contribute them to the Nigerians, the Somalians or the Angolians. No, just black people seems to be enough.

None of the claims in this movie are substantiated or backed up with sources. The film literally claims that the piano is invented by black people. While it's documented that the piano as we know it today, was invented in Italy... And that the piano has evolved from the Harpsichord. An instrument invented before the year 1400... I know instruments, so I know for certain that this claim of Hidden Colors is more then just ridiculous, it's outrageous!

Furthermore, the film claims that the clock is invented by black people. Which is also an outrageous claim. Clocks were invented all over the world in the form of sundials, water clocks and candle clocks. The first mechanical clock is invented in China, around 800 AD. But the film maker just says: Nope, black people did it.

To me, this shows the true goal of the film. It is not to inform or to educate. It is not to inspire or to entertain... It's to arouse the militants. I would call this film straight up propaganda.

The high rating this movie gets on IMDb, is obvious but very undeserved. In my views, this film is a farce... A joke... Laughable... Don't watch it if you want to enjoy African cultures, don't watch it if you want to learn or to be entertained... But do watch it if you are a militant or sympathise with the Black Panther movement.

Lake Mungo
(2008)

A movie that leaves a feeling.
For once, in a long time, I am actually pleased by a horror flick.

This movie is something completely different then the "nonsense horror" Hollywood is producing. It's not just a pile of dead bodies, a pool of blood and sadistic bad guy, as we see most nowadays. But it is recognisable, real and relatable. which makes it all the more scary.

In the average Hollywood horror flick, you are confronted with so many dead people and bloody situation that you get some sort of immunity to it.You cannot really transfer yourself in the situation of the lead character, because it's so overreacted and terrible, that you can't even imagine yourself being in that position.

This movie, however, felt real! And that was clearly the intention. You won't be wasting your time, by watching this wonderful Australian movie.
