Vampire Burt's Serenade
(2020)

Mesmerizing
You won't believe what you're watching most of the time, and for that reason, it's completely worth your time. A bizarre combination of musical, camp, vampires and rock and roll, Vampire Burt's Serenade is absolutely incredible in every sense of the word. Kevin Richardson gives a truly mesmerizing performance and his dedication to his character is honestly, award worthy. If you're looking for a film to distract you from literally anything: This is it.

Parallel Chords
(2018)

Beautiful and Inspired
Wow, I had no idea this film would move me the way it did. I found myself really reflecting on my own relationship with my dad since that is the emotional touchstone of the story for me. Parallel Chords is so incredibly well done and impactful, it deserves the praise it's getting. I was so taken with the lead actress' performance as well. The dynamic between her and her father is riveting. Well directed, written and produced, I highly recommend this touching film. Excellent work, all around.

For the Weekend
(2020)

Fun and Unpredictable
For the Weekend is a suspenseful and well made thriller. I love ensemble films and this one doesn't disappoint! A group of cool, likable friends reunite for the weekend but tensions rise when one of them goes missing. I had no idea how this would unravel, but I was happily along for the ride. The performances are believable and genuine and if you like an unpredictable and original story- this is for you. A good script and a solid cast make For The Weekend a great watch. It's refreshing to see good, even though they are 'unknown' actors delivering strong performances especially in this genre. Definitely recommend!!

Miss Multiverse - Australia
(2019)

Great series!
Miss Multiverse is totally delightful! It was recommended to me by a friend and I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be very different than your typical beauty pageants. There are fun challenges and eliminations because these beautiful women are much more than just pretty (which of course they also are). They get eliminated until the winner becomes the Australian rep for the Miss Multiverse International. Really fun and different. Recommend!

Sweet Sunshine
(2020)

Incredible
Sweet Sunshine is just the movie we need right now. It's a faith based musical film but not as saccharine as most faith based films. This feels authentic and with great performances by John Way & Savanah McMahon, it will charm you over. It has a valuable life lesson and will move you. Trust me when I say, this will take you to a place you want to go!!.Bravo to all involved! Recommend.

Ring Ring
(2019)

Clever and very well done!
I loved Ring Ring. What a funny and clever concept for a horror comedy! A relatable storyline: Recently fired coworkers try to steal the contacts from their boss only to lose the phone with all the contacts. Horror and hilarity ensue. I was truly impressed with the overall filmmaking here and the performances were fantastic. I especially enjoyed seeing Lou Ferringo in this. An unexpected great time. Highly Recommend!

Chasing After You
(2019)

Beautiful Story
I was truly moved by Chasing After You. I am not a religious person but found the story to be thoughtful and engaging while not overly preachy. The lead performance by Gabby Ruffin is genuine and impressive. I was moved and found this sweet, beautiful story to be surprisingly good. It's uplifting. Highly Recommend.

Risen: The Story of Chron 'Hell Razah' Smith
(2020)

Incredible Documentary
Risen is fantastic. It's a must see for rap music fans and especially die hard ones. I was so impressed with the footage and research, the interviews of so many great rappers and musicians and the overall depth of this story. The insight provided here also delves into overcoming adversity when personal tragedy strikes, as it did with Hell Razah. It's an inside look into the road to recovery and how painful it can be. The film is still quite uplifting and absolutely worth your time. It struck a big chord with me and I will definitely be recommending it to all of my friends. BRAVO!!

Into the Void
(2019)

Timely Zombie Film
Who knew that a post apocalyptic movie would be so timely right now? Well Into the Void touches right on the nerves of all of us right now, and then some. While I thoroughly enjoyed this well made indie, I couldn't help but feel their pain. Of course its' fictional and slightly more dangerous-in its Zombie world theme-it still strikes a chord as it is grounded in a psychological tale that's relatable. Excellent performances by the two leads, Ioan Sebastian Tirlui and Molly Dyson and smart directing by Jordan Cantello make Into the Void a perfect diversion for these scary times!

Polaris
(2016)

Gritty and Intense
Polaris is a fantastic. Gritty and intense, it's an incredibly well made film. I was immediately drawn in by the mesmerizing Alicia Bachleda as Baran, a war photographer struggling with PTSD. Full of secrets she must conceal from her husband, Poorya (excellent performance as well by Bahram Rahda), Baran wrestles with her truths in a performance that is truly captivating. Strong and solid performances, a complex drama that tackles war, PTSD and love, Polaris is something every movie lover will appreciate. Highly Recommend.

Simbi_Xombies
(2019)

Original and Mind Bending
I'm not sure how to accurately describe Ximbi XombiX because it really must be seen to be believed, and seen it should absolutely be!! This film is a mind bending odyssey into a universe like nothing I've seen before. Artistic and simultaneously cinematic it's a zombie musical about a band and their art...and then some. For any adventurous cinephile, this movie really pulls off something truly original and breaks every mold. Worth it. Highly Recommend!!

Confessions of a Producer
(2020)

Original Genre Bending Indie
Confessions of a Producer is a completely original genre bending film. I totally enjoyed its refreshing yet engaging premise: A producer is cursed and the only way to lift the curse is by his nemesis. Twist! This film is well made with completely original characters and solid performances. If you're tired of the same old contrived storylines we see too often from Hollywood, this film is a refreshing change of pace and totally worth your time~ Fully recommend!

Boris and the Bomb
(2019)

Incredible Indie
Boris and the Bomb is so good you won't believe it unless you watch it! It's a perfect example of the excellence that can be found if indie films have the talent behind them and this one certainly does. The incredibly charming character of Boris must defuse a bomb and we are on this ride with him the whole way. Full of hysterical characters, twists you won't see coming, and wonderful comedic performances, this really impressed me. It's a blast, a must see for film lovers. Fully recommend!!

Steele Wool
(2019)

Refreshingly Original
Steele Wool is a refreshingly original film with truly unique characters. The story unfolds after a deaf housewife, Daphne, kills her abusive husband who was also the target of some unsavory characters. She is then recruited by this gang of derelicts to do this for them. We discover she does have a conscience and well..you have to see what happens next. Complete commitment by this cast are what pulled off a very difficult premise so well. Incredible performances and sharp direction, Steele Wool is surprisingly good. Watch it.

Craig Quits His Day Job
(2016)

Funny and Charming
I had a great time watching Craig Quits His Day Job. It's unexpectedly funny and the actor playing Craig is very enjoyable. All of the characters in this world are a bit off beat but I found that refreshing and the writing sharp! If you're looking for a lighthearted but charming story--this is IT! Recommend!!

Marlo Lasker
(2020)

Hilarious 80s style comedy
Perhaps I'm nostalgic for those wonderfully hilarious comedies of the 80s, but Marlo Lasker brought me back to that time with it's zany comedic set ups and style. While I wasn't quite sure what to expect, a few friends recommended this to me so I decided to check it out and charmed I was!! Rich Rotella is an incredibly funny actor with both a grounded everyman sensibility and also a -what's he going to do next-unpredictability which made him uniquely charming. This film is an unexpected comedic gem and more people should see this! Highly Recommend!!

Brown Paper Bag
(2019)

Loved this film!!
I loved this film!! LA Confidential is an all time favorite of mine and Brown Paper Bag is now another!! Film Noir is one of the coolest genres out there and this film brings it back with an excellent story. Set in 1940s Hollywood, Brown Paper Bag tells the story of a black man struggling to work in films in Hollywood. The actor in this movie is incredible-- so vulnerable and well played by Rasheed Stephens. I also thoroughly enjoyed Caesar James' performance. Truly well made and entertaining movie- highly recommend!

Defenders of Life
(2019)

Impactful
Wow, the Defenders of Life: Children Bearing Children is a rather stirring cinematic experience. While the lush setting in Costa Rico provides a beautiful backdrop to this film, the story unfolds slowly although it is shocking at times, for what it proposes. I cannot imagine what it must be like for a young girl to be forced to marry someone decades older than her, but the wonderful young actress in this story conveys the complex emotions one would imagine is going through a 12 year old mind. An incredible look into a culture I knew nothing about, this story is well told. Wonderful performance by a young actor named Arman Dabo as well. Recommend!!

Yesterday went with Yesterday
(2019)

Beautiful Film!
What a true gem of a film this is! The story of a man returning to his home country to relive a pivotal moment in his life is beautifully told in Yesterday went with Yesterday. The acting is authentic and impressive. The film is shot on location in the country of Lebanon so the cinematography is breathtaking! I love indie films for telling these stories and opening up our eyes to the many wonderful human stories that exist outside of Hollywood. This is a must watch for cinephiles!! Highly Recommend!!

Lion Killer
(2019)

Masterful Martial Arts Movie
Lion Killer takes us into the world of Brazilian Jui-Jitsu instructor, Michael. The choreography of the dojo scenes was excellent. I loved the performances by Matthew Meehan and Regina Ting Chen and was incredibly impressed with the quality of the filmmaking. A wonderful combination of writing and cinematography as well. Masterfully done, highly recommend.

Unlawful Justice
(2018)

Everyone should see this!!
Unlawful Justice really taps into the temperature of the times. I loved this film for how profoundly and accurately it told this story encapsulating the major problems we have as a society around race, justice, classism. Following the the character Remy, we see how hard he has it. Trying to take care of his sick daughter and pay medical bills that a police officers' salary can barely afford, we feel for him as the pressure of it all makes him unravel. The actors were stellar and the entire story had me wrapped around it's celluloid finger. This is a must see by all, if not for the moral lesson, but for the riveting storytelling and quality filmmaking we have here. Highly Recommend!

All I Want
(2017)

Such an Enjoyable Film!!
All I Want is one of those slice of life dramas that feels so real you'd think they read your mind! At least that's what it was like for me watching this great drama unfold. I love a solid ensemble relationship story and this was precisely that! It reminded me of those great ensemble movies like the Big Chill and St. Elmo's Fire in the sense that it's a tight knit group of friends dealing with the very real feelings underneath their social niceties. Highly Recommend this film!!

Invasion Ireland
(2013)

Original and Fun
If you want a fresh take on sci-fi flicks, Invasion Ireland is a film for you! I was impressed by the originality of this film and the novelty of the style of it. Never before have I watched a sci-fi film with so much (successful) comic effect! I laughed out loud, literally, many times, as Jessica Heart reports from her news desk of the otherworldly invasion. Hilarity ensues in Invasion Ireland and I hope the world takes notice, fast!! Highly recommend!

The Hand Bag
(2020)

A great thrill ride!
Well, The Hand Bag was a surprise. For a film with a simple title, it was far from simple-- but in the best possible way! The Hang Bag is a deeply intense and surprising suspenseful drama full of twists and turns. What I loved most about The Hand Bag was the feelings that the excellent cinematography evoked. This revenge story kept me on the edge of my seat, quite literally, throughout. A very strong debut and I look forward to more by this team. Recommend!

Trouble Is My Business
(2018)

Modern Film Noir Thriller
I loved Trouble is My Business!! A modern noir thriller, it's also wonderfully entertaining. Detective Drake has a lot to uncover, and it's a lot of fun to watch. Witty banter, over the top characters and in black and white- what's not to love? I think it would be so difficult to do a film like this but Tom Konkle and his wonderful cast do so marvelously. Totally worth your time, you won't expect the ending!!
