Devil in Ohio
(2022)

Satan's buckeye
Like most people probably do I start a lot of shows and turn them off when they're disappointing. I assumed based on the reviews I'd do that with this one too but I like shows with this theme so I gave it a shot. It's better than the reviews. It's definitely not a hill house or bly manor which are superior Netflix shows of the same genre but it is entertaining. The acting is not great but not distracting and the premise is buyable. The IMDb user reviews used to be trustworthy but something has gone amiss. If you're looking for a series that's fun but not anything you'll need to rewind because you missed a plot point you'll probably like this.

The Terminal List
(2022)

Pratt
This show is big time. If they'd made four two-hour movies people would be waiting in line for each release. Wildly compelling and exciting. You won't be disappointed.

That Dirty Black Bag
(2022)

Fantastic
This is a suspenseful western that has a lot of style. Seems if they had done more advertising it would be a show we've all heard of. Absolutely worth watching.

Under the Banner of Heaven
(2022)

Pfffff these reviews suck
If you like the trailer you'll like the show. A few episodes in and it is gripping and intense. Very good. The religious angle adds intrigue if you have no bias.

Yellowjackets
(2021)

What, there's no book club?!?
Yellowjackets is great. Really good story telling. Dramatic, scary at times and surprisingly funny. Christina Ricci is amazing but all the acting is strong.

The Luminaries
(2020)

ADHD Nation
It appears convoluted until you've watched two episodes. Give it a minute to set the table and if you don't care to do that then don't rate the entire series on the 30 mins of one episode you watched.

All American: Fight the Power
(2021)
Episode 12, Season 3

Wow
I used to enjoy this football driven drama. It is no longer that show. It's a BLM driven soap opera. No football in a football show called All American. The focal point of that movement within the show is a PRIVILEGED, whiny, rich kid. I've been fast forwarding Coop's scenes since season one but now I skip through every scene without Daniel Ezra or Taye Diggs.

The Mosquito Coast
(2021)

Deet
Suspense filled joy ride. Well acted and beautifully shot. So good!

Those Who Wish Me Dead
(2021)

Wow
This movie is good. Bunch of whiny d bags reviewing on here. If you're looking for 100% realism watch a drama, not a movie about killers trying to cover up a conspiracy in the middle of a wildfire. Morons.

For All Mankind
(2019)

For all mankind
I'm impressed with this show. Seems hard for shows to have a big premise like space and to manage the little things like relationships, current events, etc. That's where this one shines. Most of the show is dedicated to space but the rest of it is superbly done and I'm into it.

Succession
(2018)

Succession
This series is an under-appreciated masterpiece. Don't look away for even a second. Brian Cox is a gd powerhouse. Revel in it.

Your Honor: Part Ten
(2021)
Episode 10, Season 1

Ending
I liked it. In that moment in court when judge decides not to allow the kid to testify he seals his sons fate. If the kid testifies the Baxter kid goes to jail and there's no attempt on his life.

The Boys: The Big Ride
(2020)
Episode 1, Season 2

Butcher!
So good. One of my favorite "fun" shows ever made. Anyone else fist pump when billy walked down the stairs? Hells yeah

Power Book II: Ghost
(2020)

Queenpin
I don't get all the hate. As I write this only one episode has aired and all other written reviews are 1/10. Hard to judge a show on one episode but I'm interested. What's up with this baller and his family? Tommy was just named as James St Patrick's murderer in court. That bad man coming back! Chill out and let them develop this show.

Cobra Kai
(2018)

Bad Ass
If you've read a few reviews on here then you'll know I'm not saying anything new but this show kicks ass. I was so surprised at how the writers were able to take a classic movie and create a new storyline nearly 30 years later. The bar is so high that audiences typically hate these shows on principle. They use flashback scenes from the movies that really take you back and tie the two different timelines together. Most importantly, it's funny, like really funny at times. They take todays over sensitive culture and bash it in all the right ways. Most of this is done (and done well) by William Zabka who really shines throughout the series.

Friday Night Lights
(2006)

The very best
I watched this not long after it aired and am watching it again 12 years after it's ending. First, I have never seen a show hold up like this one does. More importantly, this is the best television ever made. The five seasons cover every topic from life to death and everything in between. It will make you cry with joy and sadness more times than you care to count. If you haven't seen this, don't wait.

Yellowstone: I Killed a Man Today
(2020)
Episode 8, Season 3

Damn!!
That setup Monica was a part of was brilliantly laid out! I thought she was genuinely stranded at first until the task force showed up and they started blowing the whistles with every body they found. Disturbing but well done. Love this show!

Hightown
(2020)

6/10? Waaaaaat?
So much better than the reviews. Give this one a shot if you like the premise

White Lines
(2020)

Yayo
Usually when I enjoy a show or movie and the score is low it can be attributed to a political agenda or something. The low score on White Lines is puzzling to me. The story is interesting and more of a murder mystery than about cocaine. The acting is good and the scenery is incredible. Try this one for yourself, don't trust the scoring.

Messiah
(2020)

Hold fast
If you enjoy the first few episodes then keep on going because it really picks up. Found myself flip-flopping like a politician on which way I wanted this to turn out. Very creative series.

Mr Inbetween
(2018)

Brilliant
One of my favorite shows on television. It's surprisingly relatable and Scott Ryan is terrific. If you enjoy comedies with a darker twist check it out.

Hannibal
(2013)

Mads
Hannibal is a truly remarkable series. The acting is as good as it gets in television or film and the story is very engrossing. I'm not someone that typically appreciates art the way many do but it is shot in the most beautiful and haunting way. It is too bad that the show didn't get the seasons it deserved but the three they gave us are gold.

All American
(2018)

Fun
Cliche? Absolutely. Rich teens acting like brats? Most definitely. Despite that, this show is a good time. Daniel Ezra is a young actor I'd never heard of but he really shines in the series. I'm a sucker for sports as a baseline for storytelling. Friday Night Lights was a great example of that done well and All American takes that premise to some new places.

Pablo Escobar: El Patrón del Mal
(2012)

The real
I really didn't expect this series to be as good as it is. It was one of those shows you find on Netflix hoping to like but fully expecting to turn off ten minutes in. I was thoroughly surprised to enjoy it as much as I did and found myself sinking into the deepest of binge holes. From what I understand this show was made in Colombia and created by individuals who's lives were personally impacted by Pablo Escobar. Because of that they must have felt a responsibility to make it true to life while trying to represent their country in the storytelling. This show has heart. There are times when it seems a little melancholy after something awful happens but these terrible things happened to them and they deeply traumatized the country. As an American I see this in anything that portrays the terrorist attacks of 9/11 so as a viewer I understand they're trying to reflect the sorrow the nation felt. The acting is just excellent. After the first episode they switch some characters around and at first that bumped me but after seeing more I can't imagine the story being told with any other actors. I don't imagine they had a huge budget and some of the explosions aren't shown but the production value is tremendous. On par with most current television shows. If you are fascinated with the Pablo Escobar story and wish to get an angle that isn't quite as glossy or glamorized then check this out. There are enough episodes to scratch that itch while telling a complete story that never gets old or feels tiresome.

The Last Kingdom
(2015)

Alexander Dreymon
I'm a sucker for period pieces. Anything about Vikings is likely to grab my attention. The Last Kingdom is remarkably well done. I don't know enough about movie making to say with confidence but it seems like the director knocks it out of the park. Alexander Dreymon is a name I hadn't heard before but he absolutely breathes life into the main character. The writing helps for certain, Uhtred is everything you want in a protagonist. I have no clue how historically accurate this show is but it entertains me in a way only the best can.
