Perception
(2012)

Incredible crime show
Every time I rewatch this show I'm perplexed all over again about why TNT cancelled this show after only 3 seasons. The show applies a ton of real life science to solving crime and goes miles to help reduce the stigma of mental illnesses. The cast is perfect for the show as well and they all have incredible performances. For comparisons I'd probably say that it's similar to Law and Order Criminal Intent but it's even more realistic and entertaining.... there's probably a little bit of Psych mixed into it as well (though this isn't an outright comedy like Psych is). The short story is it's hard to find comparisons and this show just stands on it's own. I often start a rewatch thinking that I've seen it enough that I can fall asleep watching it (as I do with many shows that I've watched numerous times) but I always get sucked back into the stories and have to keep watching because they are entertaining and educational even the 2nd, 5th, or dozens of times later. This is one show I wish they'd bring back.

Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game
(2022)

Well worth watching
I play pinball in leagues and competitions and I'm very aware of the history of pinball and how it was illegal in most major cities and was very aware of who Roger, Josh, and Zach are. I was excited for this movie to release but I honestly had that feeling this was going to be one of those things that only those that are into pinball would enjoy -- I'm pleased to find I was extremely wrong. This is a highly entertaining movie done in a way that I've seen few (if any) documentaries play out and on top of the narrative style it's extremely informative and uses the law's lack of a major plot as a way to kind of drive the movie (trust me, it makes sense when you watch it). I came away learning so much more about Roger and a whole new texture to what happened to reverse the illegality of pinball in NYC (and start the reaction across the nation). This is certainly a film I am recommending to anyone including those outside of my pinball circle and one that I suggest you take a shot on.

Schooled

Very enjoyable
So often when there is a spin off of a great show people always have to hold the two right next to each other and point out all the reasons it's not...... And they forget to look at the new show on it's own merits. This show IS NOT the Goldbergs but it is an identical concept. I really like the way the characters are fitting in and I think they made a good choice on who they brought over (let's face it, coach absolutely makes the show)..... Sure we'd all like to see more of the Goldberg's but, again, that's not what this show is. I don't want to see then stretched to thin by having people have to straddle two different shows. The only thing I'm not a fan of is Lainey narrating.... I love her character but I wish the story was being told from some other perspective -- but I'm certainly going to give it time because it very well could grow on me.

The Daily Show
(1996)

It's just not fun anymore
I'm really confused at what has happened in the last year. This was the greatest show on TV when Jon Stewart left..... When Trevor first took over it may not have been the same but it was pretty close to as good as when Jon was the host but the show now seems to be going in a different direction and the more I watch and hope that it's going to turn around the more I miss what the show used to be with Jon. It's not that I don't like Trevor because he does have some humor that I find enjoyable but it feel like he wears out the same concept/joke by using the same context with different subjects. I also just don't think he is as tuned in to politics and the subject matter. Both Jon and Trevor had/have writers that work on the majority of the script but Jon was involved and connected with that content and I just don't think that Trevor does. I find myself keeping up with Stephen Colbert and Seth Myers on their late shows more than I'm keeping up with TDS. The only two people on TDS that make things as fun as the show used to be is Roy Wood Jr. and Ronny Chieng and if it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't be watching the show at all -- at least I can currently hope that they make an appearance.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee
(2016)

Just keeps getting worse
I like the novelty of the show but I absolutely don't like Samantha's attitude. I'm libertarian and I enjoy almost every show of this type (Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, etc) despite the fact that they usually are biased more towards the left rather than the middle.... I have been watching Full Frontal for most of this year and kept hoping it would get better but she just keeps getting more and more angry and leaning so far left that she keeps kind of contradicts herself by being the left version of what she attacks the right for being. There are certainly some funny moments on the show but for the most part it is just irritating... even when she starts making a good point she tends to ruin it by taking a shot at anyone who doesn't think exactly like her and I'm beyond irritated at her shots at third party voters.... I don't mind someone who leans left at all, and in today's political climate it's a bit of a necessity, but when you're this far left you're kind of detached from reality.

BattleBots
(2015)

So glad it's back
Years ago I wanted so desperately to watch Battle Bots but there is no way to catch copies of the old comedy central show.... I was so excited to learn that Battle Bots came back. Despite the fact that the talking heads are not exactly techies I actually find them entertaining especially since you can tell they genuinely get into it. The show really keeps the focus on the 2 robots that are fighting and they keep the "house hazards" to a minimum and organized in a way that a robot driver can use them for strategy but yet not be in the way. I really don't have a bad things to say about this show other than maybe I'd like to see a longer season that goes back a bracket... I was glad they did this for the second season by starting the coverage at 32 rather than 16 but I'd like to see them start the coverage maybe a little further back.... My biggest hope is that they don't start getting greedy for drama and go the way of the UK's Robot Wars where there is so much crap in the arena that the robot drivers don't have any option for strategy and we start seeing bots that aren't designed to do anything but push the opponent.

Robot Wars
(1998)

Too much "candy" taking away from the real fun
Robot Wars (2016) has a lot of potential but the biggest problem is they fill the arena with entirely too much extra stuff with, what I assume is, the intent of making things more dramatic. The problem is that this show is about a battle between two robots and some hazards are desired but when the arena has as many as this one has it really takes away from the actual function of the robots themselves and it forces the robots to not have room to get away and use strategy. I'm also not a fan of the constant replays and edited battles.... The cameras simply don't follow the action the way they should and this also takes away from the actual battle going on.
