The World Beyond
(1978)

If someone has a DVD of this, let me know
Needless to say, I pretty much stand with the rest of the commentators on this made-for-TV film (scared to death as a kid; still vividly remember scenes to this day, etc). I see "cowboypsychic1" has a DVD of this; if it is possible to get a copy of this, please email me at: seaychris@hotmail.com

It's funny that so many remember these movies, people I've talked with, people who visit here. These movies had impact, by whatever chance, and need to be shown again. I remember the mud monster, and the salt hurting it, and how they tripped it into the water to kill it. I remember the next movie being the giant turtle and the woman named Jenny, who was actually a woman turned into a sea monster created by the devil. They were shown back to back, and I remember curling up with my blanket in a darkened room with all the doors locked (yes, I KNOW they were locked because I locked them), and watching as the mud monster terrorized the hapless victims. I wish they would show these two movies again, back to back, just as they did before. That would be totally awesome.

UGH! Can someone please do a proper naughty tentacle movie?!
What can I say? I dare you to watch this. No, I TRIPLE DOG dare you!

If you actually need a "plot" synop, here goes: a couple of german yutes are heading towards an island for some fun. Unfortunately, so are a small gang of bank robbers/ baby doll murderers (yes, I said baby DOLL murderers: there is a shot where a TOYS R' US baby doll -complete with the gravity assisted big blue eyes -is substituted as a REAL baby as said Tarantini wannabe puts a gun to its forehead. It even comes complete with standard baby giggles before impact. You will not believe it as you see it either)!

So, when all arrive on the island, much chaos ensues as they (1) run around from either each other or (2) encounter crosses that slowly spin around and drip blood, (3) the long retired fog from JC's THE FOG and (4) naughty tentacles that look like dung, which do naughty things (think LA BLUE GIRL, but with real girls, stop motion and fake screams the likes of which have not been seen since DR. BUTCHER).

So, if naughty tentacles are your thing, just check out the live action LA

BLUE GIRLs out on dvd or even the 5-dvd set of ANGEL OF DARKNESS (which are pretty slow and have very little naughtiness). Otherwise, PLEASE ... watch this movie with your parents. They will love it. I mean it. Really.... D

Felidae
(1994)

Almost too complicated for its own good...
I recently acquired this through eBay Germany and was really looking forward to seeing it. After watching, I have to say I was a little disappointed. I was expecting Dario Argento and I got Brian DePalma plus Don Bluth instead (not that THAT is a bad thing). Definitely see this film, but do not believe the hype. Animation is EXCELLENT but the story is needlessly complicated, especially when you discover what the "mystery" is really all about.

Other animated titles to check out: WATERSHIP DOWN, PLAGUE DOGS, TWICE UPON A TIME (before Lucas went mad), BOY WHO SAW THE WIND, THE LAST UNICORN, FRITZ THE CAT, and anything by MIYAZAKI

Well, what are you waiting for? GO SEE THESE NOW!

Sûîto hômu
(1989)

very Argentoesque...
I would agree with the other reviewers that this is essentially a Japanese take on POLTERGEIST. Do not let that stop you from seeing it however.

If there was any way to truly describe this film, it would be if Dario Argento (during his heyday in the late 70's) directed a film with Japanese stars. Every shot has the look and the lighting from films like SUSPIRIA, PHENOMENA, TENEBRAE, even down to the tracking shots and steadycam work.

Which brings me to another point: if there is anyone who has a VHS/ laserdisc/ DVD of this film (preferrably with english subtitles), please let us know. I have a copy but it could have better image quality.

Regardless, seek this film out. You will not be disappointed.
