The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
(2013)

One of the best movies of the year!
This movie was amazing!! Starts off right where the first one left off. So make sure you see the first one BEFORE you watch this one!! That is very important, or you will not know what is going on. Also remember that these Hobbit movies come before the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Good acting, some funny parts, good drama, good action sequences and amazing visuals about sums it all up!! The plot line was obviously predictable, but fun. It is a good movie for all ages 7 and up I'd say. If your child can handle intense action like with the dragon, and fighting, then take them to see it. If you like fantasy or Sci-fi, then you'll love it. I would recommend seeing it in 2-D (3D hurts my eyes), and seeing it on the big screen while you still can. One of the best movies of the year! 10/10 stars!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
(2013)

GREAT movie, but leaves you hanging at the end!
This movie was great. Exciting, drama, action. Had it all. Love the main actress Jennifer Lawrence, she is on FIRE!!

You really need to see the first one BEFORE watching this one though, so you know what is going on. It had a good story line, and good special effects also. The only thing I did not like was how it ended!!! Not to give away too much, but it leaves you hanging!! BIG TIME. You have to wait until the third movie to see the conclusion. Stops right in the middle of the action.

Now I know a lot of movies are doing this these days, but I myself would have liked at least a little resolution at the end!! Oh well I will be there for the next one for sure!! A+ 9/10 stars.

Argo
(2012)

Argo F#$% Yourself!!
"Argo F#$% Yourself!!" It's a line from the movie. Drama, suspense, and comedy. This is an Oscar worthy movie. I thought the entire thing was entertaining, and very good. Some parts felt a little slow and they maybe dragged it on a little too much, but I enjoyed it. Ben Affleck is amazing as an actor and director. Supporting cast does a great job. I thought John Goodman and Alan Arkin were both really funny. This is based on a true story, a crazy but true story about a hostage extraction that took place in 1980. It was recently declassified and turned into the movie. Keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. They also did a great job on the cast looking just like the original people. Overall, I give it 9 out of 10. A+, very good. Go see it!

Elysium
(2013)

Pretty good action flick
I give this 3/5 stars. It was entertaining. Not the best, not the worst. I wouldn't say WOW or anything, but it was a fun night out. The plot was good but predictable. The acting was decent. The special effects were so so. Matt Damon was, well, Matt Damon. The standard performance from a 'Bourne' type movie. Action scenes were good and the bad guy was pretty tough. It really was not that believable of a movie but if you can use your imagination you can get into it. My advice... if you really want to see it, rent it on DVD. You can do better. If you're really into sci-fi, check out the new Star Trek: Into Darkness! Overall, I give it a 7 out of 10 or B- grade.

Man of Steel
(2013)

Excellent movie. See the 2-D though.
I really enjoyed this movie. I am a big fan of action and superhero movies, and this did not disappoint. First of all I thought they did a great job on casting Superman. Henry Cavill fits the role perfectly. I liked the supporting cast, except thought they could have done better with Lois Lane. The plot starts out with Superman (Kal-El) being born, and quickly jumps into him being in his 20's and saving people. They show some of his growing up, through flashbacks but I wish they would have done more of this. You don't have to see any previous Superman movies to see this one, you get the whole back story. There was a ton of good action scenes, almost too much I thought. Plot was pretty good, but also pretty predictable. I saw the 3-D version, and I am not a big fan of 3-D. While this movie did not give me a headache, like 'The Hobbit', I didn't think the 3-D added that much, and I would recommend seeing the 2-D version! Overall I gave it a 9/10. Good action, fun, entertaining movie.

Flight
(2012)

Awesome Film. Blew away my expectations!
FLIGHT is a great film! In a day and age where almost all Hollywood movies try to thrill us with special effects and gore, FLIGHT 'soars' with extraordinary acting and a story that will change lives. I went not knowing really what to expect. A drama about a crashed airplane, right? Well this film is much much more. It is truth. Truth about life. Truth about addictions. Denzel Washington does an awesome, believable job as an alcoholic airplane captain, struggling with his addiction and accusations after the plane crash. John Goodman plays an interesting character and provides some laughs. Without giving too much away, I will say that if you like drama movies or Denzel, go see it. If you are, or know anyone who is struggling with an addiction of ANY KIND... go see it! It just might change your life. 9/10 A+

Lake Mungo
(2008)

NOT scary
Went into this, after reading some reviews on this site, expecting a 'chilling' or somehow scary Halloween movie. I myself don't like all the gory, bloody Hollywood horror movies out there. But this film just didn't scare. I kept expecting it to get batter, but it just didn't. Overall, it was interesting. Not worth watching, but I'd say interesting, and I gave it a 5/10, medium grade review. It is a fake style documentary, has the feeling of like a 20/20 or Dateline. If you like that kind of stuff this might be for you. It was sad, and at the end there was a little spooky stuff that made me slightly scared afterward... But nothing much, and like I said that was only at the end of the film. 5/5 C-

Trouble with the Curve
(2012)

Great Drama
A great film for sports fans and non sports fans alike. Great drama and acting by Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. They really make a believable father and daughter. Justin Timberlake was also good as a washed up pitcher turned baseball scout. It follows a story of a baseball scout (Eastwood) who is getting towards the end of his career, and scouting the potential number one pick for the Atlanta Braves. Eastwood is definitely getting up there but he can still act and plays this part perfectly. The film moves along good, and is enjoyable from start to finish. It has laughs, drams and some romance. Great for a couple or for the family. An added bonus if you're a baseball fan. 8/10.

The Amazing Spider-Man
(2012)

One word. AMAZING.
WOW. The Amazing Spider-Man is just that. AMAZING. All around great movie I liked it way better than the other Spiderman movies and glad they did a re-boot. It was great how they led up to him getting his powers and explained it all.

The guy who played Spiderman (Andrew Garfield) was great and perfect for the part. A really likable hero. Emma Stone was also good and they have good on screen chemistry.

I usually don't like 3-D too much but this was way cool, especially the scenes where he flies through the air using his webbing. Also the 3-D didn't hurt my eyes or make me dizzy like some movies do. 10/10 Stars. GO SEE IT.. NOW!!

The Cabin in the Woods
(2011)

Comedy/Horror... just OK
I thought this movie was just OK. not spectacular and not the kind I tell my friends about. It was entertaining, and if you like horror/comedy films you will probably like it. Overall the concept was a twist on some movies that have already been done (Cube, Saw, both of which were better). Has a sci-fi vibe but never really scares because it flips to funny too much. I actually laughed several times. I cant give away too much but the ending had a twist which was pretty overdone/weird. It worked with the whole thing though. Not believable at all but if you can get past that its OK. Still I thought it was definitely funnier that it was scary, so don't go looking to be scared! 4/10

Man on a Ledge
(2012)

Entertaining action/thriller
This movie was a fun, entertaining action movie. From the previews I had a good idea of what was going to happen. A guy is on a ledge, threatening to jump, and he is trying to prove his innocence. I don't want to give any details away so I won't get too much into the plot. There are a few twists towards the end that are nice. I would have to say that the plot wasn't incredibly original. It is similar to other action, cop movies that we've seen before. Reminded me of 'The Fugitive' and 'Phone Booth' which were both movies I liked. (No where near as good as The Fugitive though!) There were good shots from the 'ledge' and some good action scenes that were nice at the theater. Overall I would definitely recommend this film. Go see it if you like action/thriller movies!

Antichrist
(2009)

Horrible. waste of time.
I like a variety of movies. But I thought I had to review this one to save some of you from wasting your time watching this movie. Overall, the movie was boring. I thought the plot was going to go somewhere, and it really didn't. It was disgusting in parts and NOT SCARY AT ALL. I guess there were some interesting thought provoking ideas, but that's about it. No action. No horror. I guess it should be labeled as a 'drama' and then I might not have been expecting something scary out of it. Oh and you definitely don't want to let any children (under 17 or so) watching this. There are some VERY GRAPHIC parts. just a heads up. You might be able to enjoy this but I hated it. 1/10 (and usually if a movie is half decent I give it a 4 or 5 at least.)

Contagion
(2011)

Good movie, but could have been better
I saw this movie at a pre-screening in St. Louis. I thought it was good, and I did enjoy it, but I also thought it could have been better. It's about a virus outbreak that is untreatable, and threatens the whole world's population. I thought it had a kind of 'CSI' vibe to me. I liked the way the story showed what day it was, place, etc, and kind of followed the outbreak across the globe. The acting by Matt Damon and Jude Law was great, but overall it just didn't have enough conflict. I felt like I had seen it before in similar movies, and there was no main protagonist/bad guy to fight against (well, besides the virus itself, of course!) The film made me think about germs, diseases, and government cover ups. Which are all too real even today. I did really like the last scene and how the movie came full circle. Overall though, I felt like it could have gone somewhere, but didn't. But still I enjoyed it and would recommend it, it's just not one of my favorites. 7/10
